Library sharing help

I had this all set up very easily at first. I had the iPhoto Lib on my external HD and was sharing it with my G5, iBook G4 and Powerbook G$ all with iPhoto 08'all running 10.4.11. Then I upgraded my G5 to a new iMac running 10.5.5 and I can choose the library on my iMac but when I tell the iBook and powerbook to chose that library it is "grayed out" in the browser and it will not allow me to choose it. Also i have always had "connect 360" working off my computer for my xbox 360 to see my photos downstairs on my tv but now that too will not reconize the library. My external drive has the "ignore permissions" selected and I have tried to create a new library to test it but I am still having the same bad luck...
Any thought and help would be greatly appreciated.
Than you

There's a really good article on this on apple's support page. Here's the link.

  • ITunes library sharing help?

My father recently acquired an iPhone. I before had many apple products and have my library of personal music. My dad asked me if I could burn his CDs and put it on his phone. How do I do this without having his music interfere with my music library? We only own one computer. Is there anyway I could make two seperate libraries?

  • "Look for libraries to share" does not appear in the Shared pane under preferences.  I'm trying to see my fiances shared library.  She can see mine. I have selected share entire library.  Help please!

Cannot see my fiance's library but she can see mine.  Checked all appropriate boxes to share entire library.  Help syays to check under Shared which does not even appear anywhere.  It also said to check the "Look for share libraries" under shared pane which also does not exit in that pane. I am Windows 7 and she is Macbook.  Thanks

I'm using an Airport Extreme, and I'm not aware of UPnP settings in the Airport Utility.
On the Mac, I set up a Parallels Vista instance in bridged mode and verified that I can see the other Vista PC share folders, so I know that the Vista PC has been set up correctly.
Additionally, as mentioned before, I switched DNS Servers several times, but settled on an alternative Rogers DNS to avoid their awful failed lookup ad page (64.71.255.202 if anyone needs it).
I also tried adding the Vista PC IP to my Mac hosts file, which oddly showed the Mac on the Vista side, but nothing on the Mac side.
I also goofed around in the smb.conf file with some settings, but alas, nada.
The only thing that might explain why the Airport Express network (Vista, XP) provided me with shares in the sidebar and not my own Airport Extreme network (just Vista) could be that it's a master browser issue. I saw a couple of posts about this.
If the Vista machine is the master browser, nothing will show in the sidebar, but if XP or a Mac is the master browser, then the sidebar will show shares. I don't have a way to verify this as I'm not sure how to force one machine to be a master browser over another. I'm suspicious if this will do anything as I've found other posts saying exactly the opposite scenario.
Is there anyone out there that has had a network, possibly with Airport Extreme, one Mac (Leopard), one Vista PC, and Vista share is showing in the Finder sidebar?

  • Library sharing not working from all accounts

I am using iTunes Library sharing from my iMac to enable access to mucis & movies on ios devices on my local network.  From my login on the iMac this works fine and the shared library appears on the "more" menu in the music app on my ipad whenever itunes is open on the iMac.
I have made the same set up on my daughters login on the same iMac but her shared library will not show up on any devices on the network.  Her shared library is however visible in iTunes when I log into my account on the same iMac via fast user switching.  Other functionality of itunes from her login seems fine & it can airplay to my ATV without problem.
There is no difference in the set up of iTunes between her login and mine:  neither have home sharing enabled, and both have 'share my library on my local network/entire library' selected in itunes prefence.
I have tried with home sharing enabled and this made no difference.
I can only guess that there is a preference pane or similar in her login that is corrupted.  Any ideas welcome.

  • Library sharing troubles

    Greetings, community!
We have a troubles with MSL 2024 sharing between two physical DPM 2012 R2 servers.
After step SetSharedDPMDatabase -DatabaseName DPM01\MSSQLSERVER\DPMDB_DPM01 -DoNotMoveData by this GUIDE
    http://flemmingriis.com/data-protection-manager-2012-r2-fiber-channel-tape-sharing-with-a-side-of-install-part-2/
our Library-Client DPM server console fall in crash with error:
    And then:
We have no Errors in Application and System Logs.
    Maybe somebody seen same errors?

    Hi,
This can happen if you ran the client side libray sharing commands on LCS server itself to enable
library sharing - this is wrong.  This resulted in all the DPM SQL Stored procedures to be modified and point to itself and that causes the exception.
To resolve this problem, you will need to run commands to remove the client sharing on the LCS Server, then disable and re-enable tape library sharing on all the Client DPM Servers.
    On the LCS DPM Server
From an administrative command prompt, run the following commands to undo the SQL Stored procedure changes associated with the client side sharing that causes the crash:
    SetSharedDPMDatabase -removedatabasesharing
AddLibraryServerForDPM -dpmserverwithlibrary <LCS_FQDN> -remove  (Use a fictitious server name
    here)
The above commands will resolve the Console crash on the LCS Server. However, that also caused all the client DPM Server consoles to start crashing with the following popup when starting the DPM Console.
    Microsoft .NET Framework
Unhandled exception has occurred in a
    component in your application.
If you click Continue, the application will
ignore this error and attempts to
       continue.
        DLS Error:
    SP='dbo.prc_Global_MM_Drive_GetReservationlevel'
    Error=5001
You now have to disable and re-enable library sharing by running the following on all DPM Client servers.
    On all DPM Client server(s)
Run the following commands to disable tape library sharing on the client:
    SetSharedDPMDatabase -removedatabasesharing
    AddLibraryServerForDPM -dpmserverwithlibrary <LCS_FQDN> -remove
Followed by these commands to re-enable library sharing on the client:
    AddLibraryServerForDPM -dpmserverwithlibrary <LCS_FQDN>
    SetSharedDPMDatabase -Instancename <LCS_FQDN>\MSDPM_INSTANCE_NAME

  • ITunes10 64bit Bug: Library Sharing not working

Ever since I upgraded Library sharing stopped working (it last worked in Version 8).
I think the problem is with itunes 64bit. I just uninstalled all Apple Stuff (including Bonjour, Quicktime and Updater) and reinstalled, but still use the same Library.
Sharing from the Notebook (32bit Win7) to AppleRemote (Ipad) or the PC (64bit Win7) works.
But sharing from the MainPC (64bit Win7) on the remote network doesn't work.
I double-checked the Windows Firewall (itunes + bonjour are coming thru)?
Has anybody got more tips for me?
    Cheers

  • Ask Apple for better iPhoto (Aperture) Library sharing!

    *Some Background...*
My wife and I each have our own Mac and iPhone and we share a digital camera. Between the three camera devices we snap a lot of photos and we want easy access (over the network!) to each other's photos so we can both maintain a shared library. iPhoto 8.1.2 (iLife '09) allows some rudimentary sharing, but it's very basic and not centralized. So, all photos are accessible only when both Macs are on the network and iPhoto is running on each. If you search for "iPhoto sharing" in the forums or Google you'll see a LOT of people have the same needs.
    http://www.google.com/search?q=iphoto+sharing
    *My Humble Suggestion...*
How do I think iPhoto should work? You should have an option of establishing a "Master iPhoto Library". Either locally to share among users of the same computer or on the network for users to share between multiple computers. Whatever photos are added to a user's iPhoto Library may optionally be merged into the Master Library for all to see/edit etc. If the user wants they can move them to the Master or copy them (to retain their own version for editing as they see fit). They may also copy from the Master to their local library if they have a MacBook and want to take them on the go...
If Apple truly wants to provide a digital "hub" for it's users, they must provide this sort of sharing for their services. Families share contacts, photos, calendars, movies and music. This concept should be applied to iTunes, Address Book, iCal, Aperture etc.
+If you agree with this or have any of your own ideas please post here and PLEASE let Apple know+ ==> http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html
*Some forum posts/articles on suggested iPhoto Library sharing workarounds...*
    http://bit.ly/aqh2Qv

    http://bit.ly/88yVbL
    http://bit.ly/9lCqPq
    http://bit.ly/7Vmmyq
    http://bit.ly/bZz58Y

By all means make a feature request. Absolutely nothing will change unless you do.
    But some points to ponder:
As I often point out when this one comes up, averaged out of the cost of iLife, iPhoto is a $16 application. For that you get a lot - and with a bit of work, you can even do much of what you want to do - but you don't get everything.
There are apps that will do as you want. They start around the $200 mark.
    As to specifics:
You should have an option of establishing a "Master iPhoto Library".
    Easily done.
Either locally to share among users of the same computer
Put it in the Users/Shared Folder.
or on the network for users to share between multiple computers
Go out an buy a NAS device. Put the iPhoto Library on a disk image formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) stored on the NAS. On a NAS it will not require another computer to be available. You might even be able to put in an USB HD attached to an Airport device.
Whatever photos are added to a user's iPhoto Library may optionally be merged into the Master Library for all to see/edit etc.
You can do this - along with all versions, metadata etc - with iPhoto Library Manager.
If the user wants they can move them to the Master or copy them (to retain their own version for editing as they see fit).
You can do that with either iPhoto Library Manager or basic iPhoto Sharing.
They may also copy from the Master to their local library if they have a MacBook and want to take them on the go...
    Ditto.
    Regards
    TD
ps. Some of these links are well out of date. For instance, with iPhoto 09 there is no longer a need to manipulate ACLS to share Libraries. One of those links is labelled "10.4 only" and you need a minimum of 10.5.6 for iPhoto 09.

  • My itunes won't launch even after reinstalling.  Looked in itunes folder and somehow lost itunes library?  HELP!

My itunes won't launch even after reinstalling.  Looked in itunes folder and somehow lost itunes library?  HELP!

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other location. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
If that still doesn't work, try this:
Bugie: Perform a Thorough & Complete Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes/QuickTime.
    Hope this helps.

  • Library sharing questions

    Hello there,
I have a PM G4, a PB G4 and an XP machine all connected to the same network in my home. I use the XP machine and the PM G4 upstairs in my office and the laptop downstairs (predominantly) and it connects to the network via a Linksys WAP11 access point.
I have an extensive music collection on the XP machine and I use iTunes 7.7. Here's the screwy bit: I can use iTunes library sharing between the XP machine and the PM G4 (they're on the wired network) but I have some issues with library sharing on the PB G4 over wireless. I can see the PM G4's library just fine on the Powerbook but the XP's library doesn't appear.
As a point of interest and troubleshooting I connected the PB to the wired network and, lo and behold, all libraries appear and are accessible. Seems to me that there is some issue with the Mac version of iTunes connecting to a shared library on a Windows XP machine through a wireless network.
While I've done the customary wander through google to get more info it doesn't appear as though anyone has the exact problem I have. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

I'd appreciate some clarity on this note.
I'm running iPhoto 6 (ver 6.0.6) with my library of photos and have second Mac with iPhoto '08 (ver 7.1.5). I merely want to be able to view photos in iPhoto '08 from the library on 6 machine.
I've accessed once by using Preferences -> Sharing without incident. From your note, it appears I should have a problem with my Ver 6 now. Am I misunderstanding your note?
    Thanks, Lyle

  • My computer broke, so I had to change the hardisk(?). Now iTunes dosen't work anymore. It says that the program is either lockes, on a locked unit or I don't have the right to open the library? Help please? :)

My computer broke, so I had to change the hardrive-hardisk(?). Now iTunes dosen't work anymore. It says that the program is either locked, is on a locked unit or I don't have the right to open the library? Help please?

Sometimes a restart can fix this issue, but sometimes you have to fix the iTunes Library.itl file.
Try quitting iTunes, renaming the itunes file "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library Old.itl"
    then open itunes again
This should generate a new library file.
From this point you can try two different avenues.
    1. Re-add everything to your library by going to the iTunes file menu, and selecting "add to library"
    2. You can try deleting the iTunes Library.itl you created, changing the name of the old file back to iTunes Library.itl
I hope this helps. I did something like this a while back and it worked for me.

  • Will Photo Library Manager help without library file

I recently upgraded to Leopard and added ilife to upgrade my iphoto from a reeaaally old version. I imported photos from the old version and Iphoto was working fine a couple weeks ago. Today, however, when I tried to open it, I got the Choose Your Library message. There is no library listed, nor can I find one. I have not done anything to iphoto or the library file since it was last opened and working fine. Will Photo Library Manager help if there is no library file? Is the albumdata.xml file in the iphoto database or is it somewhere else in my computer? Surely the files are there somewhere! What else can I do? I have a back-up but it has run since I last opened iphoto and I can't find a library file in there either. What is the library file called? Maybe I'm not looking for the write thing...
Thanks for your help. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Did you use Spotlight to try to find your library. If the library was inadvertantly moved to certain areas of the HD Spotlight will not find it. Download and run Find File to search for "Library6.iPhoto". If you get a hit it's a good chance it's the library. Good Luck.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Library sharing doesn't notice app updates

This is more of a iTunes feature request, or maybe I just don't understand how to make this work. I am using iTunes 9.0.2 under Mac OS 10.5.8 (and also 10.4.11 and 10.6.2, my wife's and daughter's machines) and have set up library sharing.
I have set it up so that if I buy a new app, it is automatically copied to the other libraries so it could also be used on my wife's iPhone 3G and my daughter's iTouch. I am reporting this in this forum because it seems specific to apps, and it would be lost in the noise in the iPhone for Macs group.
The problem is that if an app is updated, and I download it on my machine, it is not noticed as new when I ask it to show "Items not in my library", and the updates are not copied automatically, either.
Instead, if they check for updates, it shows that they have to download them from Apple, but if they try to do the download, it demands my iTunes Store password. I have previously authorized their machines against the 5 machines I am allowed, so they can put the apps on their devices, but they don't know my password.
What they have to do instead is to import the updates from my machine. I have instructed them on how to do this. However, it would be nice if iTunes just did the right thing.
Does anyone know a way to make it do the right thing that I have overlooked?

I hate to break it to you guys, but (definitely no gloating from me) mine is working OK. What this suggests, is that the store is not broken and the service is still working, but there could be a problem with something on your iPods (my iPhone is working fine as well).
I would start with a simple restart (if not already done) and work my way through settings (my Store settings show my account name and that I am signed in), including wifi.

  • Library sharing

This G3 with itunes 8 used to share libraries with other macs in the house. Then I reinstalled itunes (for unrelated reasons). Now, though it show shared comupters in the sidebar of itunes, it won't connect fully for library sharing. It tries to load but fails.  Please advise.

Lots of functionality is no longer supported for itunes 8.  Solution for this particular problem: Airfoil.

  • Library Sharing blocked by firewall despite settings

Just updated to iTunes 10.5 on my "first Intel generation" iMac, which runs 10.5.8.
Library sharing worked previously (iTunes 10.4.something), but now my other Macs and iDevices can 'see' that the library is there to be shared, but cannot access any content. The appfirewall.log shows:
    Firewall[42]: Deny iTunes connecting from 10.0.1.5:55709 uid = 0 proto=6
whenever I try to access it from another machine/device.
Meanwhile, the Firewall settings in the Security pane of System Preferences show iTunes.app with "Allow incoming connections".
    I have tried:
    - adding and removing iTunes.app from the Firewall list of apps
    - restarting the system
    - turning off library sharing within iTunes and turning it back on, including re-naming the library
It continues to fail the same way every time.
Has anyone else encountered (and hopefully solved) this problem?

Yes I have been struggling with this for months.
I have concluded that the firewall is broken and simply needs to be avoided, turn it off, don't use it.  Adding iTunes to the allowed list should work but it doesn't.  Look at your logs, you'l see the many instances of the firewall blocking itues access even though you have specifically told the firewall to allow it.
Annoyances like this destroy the Apple myth: "It just works."
Scared of opperating without a firewall turned on?  Get Lil Snitch and use that instead.  The Apple Firewall doesn't work anyway, we've seen that as described above.  So how can you be sure it is blocking any nasties? You can't. Turn it off and your problem is solved.
