Library shows wrong ports when using external MIDI
Whenever I start a new project and choose an external midi track the library displays the wrong ports. I have an Axiom 25, Motif XS6, and a Kurzweil through an Ultralite. The Axiom and Ultralite show correctly but the MOTIF (which has 3 ports) are all under the Axiom Port 1 listing. Any ideas on how to reset the library so it displays the correct ports.
I found the answer: The Axiom was listed in the default evnironment. when clicking on one of the wayward axioms that appeared in the library it actually produced the right port in the midi track. Then looking at the environment I found that it had produced another axiom with the yamaha port. By clicking on all four axioms in the library I was able to go to the environment and change the name to the proper Yamaha port. They then appeared in the library correctly.
The secret was setting up the environment correctly.

Volume Problem when using external midi instruments
Hi everyone, I'm having a problem recording the audio from my external midi instruments into Logic 8.
I have all my external midi instruments set up in my environment and they are all going through a motu micro lite interface, with the audio going through a focusrite saffire pro 40.
The way I record Midi into Logic is to load up a new software instrument-select external instrument-find the relevant synth & input-record the midi that I want & adjust as needed-bounce down to an audio channel.
The problem Im having at the moment and have had for a little while is that when I record this way, the audio that accompanies the midi, although I can hear it loudly through my monitors, the input levels in Logic are really small and when I come to bouncing down and listen back to it, it is a lot quieter than I'd originally heard.
With the Pro 40 comes the Mix Control surface, upon checking this the volume on the master output channels is much more representative of the volume I'm hearing through my monitors, and it isn't the same within Logic. I've checked that I haven't got an output coming through channels on this at the same time as its coming through Logic which would result in the sound being doubled and obviously louder, this definitely doesn't appear to be the case.
Its really puzzling and quite annoying me, If anyone could shed any light on why this may be happening that would be fantastic, I've used this forum a few times and I've always found people to be very kind & helpful.I've checked that I haven't got an output coming through channels on this at the same time as its coming through Logic which would result in the sound being doubled and obviously louder, this definitely doesn't appear to be the case.
It was the first thing I was thinking about. Stop the "Software Monitoring" in the Logic Prefs and try again if you do not have any duplicated hardware routings.

Mixing when using external midi devices . . .
Hi,
This is the first time I'm mixing a project using an external midi device. Formerly, using an older version of DP, I would record each track from the midi device into an audio track before mixing because those tracks don't "bounce" when mixing. Anybody here who uses external devices do it differently?
Thanks, josfUsing the external I/O plug in you can bounce your external midi instruments to audio tracks in realtime in logic, but you have to add the New multi instrument in the environment so that it can be represented in the external destination parameter of the EXternal I/O plug in.
At least I think this is how things work. You also need an audio interface with the outs of your hardware to the ins of the inputs and the midi cables configured.
But.. I think there is a latency issue there.. anyone know how to compensate for this? Like if I bounce a track in realtime in logic.. it records the time that it takes the audio to "get into" the software.. It never bounces a track right on the beat, as if I were to bounce a track from say the EXS sampler.. When I do it inside logic it bounces it right on the beat.. with no "dead space" beforehand.. but if I use external equipment there is always a lag.. any suggestions? -

Hello -
I am getting ORA-15072 (command required at least one failure groups) when using external redundancy. I am using asmlib on Linux, and I have a feeling that it it a multipathing issue. Here are the output from some of my commands:

Why would I be getting ORA-15072 with external redundancy (using asmlib)?

older (tiger) cd photo library shows no pics when opened in iPhoto 11 (Mt. Lion) how do i get to view those pics ?...thanx
That library was created by iPhoto via Share ➙ Burn menu, correct? It's old enough that you may have to drag that library to the desktop and open it with the Finder. Then drag the subfolders from the Originals folder into your open iPhoto 9 library window to import.

When using external speakers, they won't unmute
I am using a U530 Touch with Realtek HD Audio driver version 6.0.1.7535 and Windows 10 build 10240. When using external speakers, everything works fine, except when I mute speakers they will not unmute without unplugging the 3.5 mm speaker jack and plugging it back in to the unit. Using the laptop's internal speakers does not produce the same proplem (mute/unmute works fine). I have looked at every setting and find nothing, nor have I seen this problem reported in the forums. HELP!!!

Firstly how do I know if this is a 1st or 2nd generation shuffle? Bought in May at Palo Alto Store but there doesn't seem to be anything on the packaging to tell me.
1st Gen shuffle was white, plastic, and shaped like a chewing gum package.
2nd Gen shuffle is aluminum, with a spring clip on the back and comes in silve and assorted colors...
When the shuffle is connected to the external speakers(bought at the same
time) it only plays about 5 songs and then stops.
Does it play through the earphones after this happens? Does it still have power or is the battery depleted after it stops playing?
What Brand & model are the speakers? -
Does Mackie Control work with Final Cut 7 when using USB MIDI?
I have a Mackie Control Universal Pro connected via USB to my mac and it works GREAT with Logic and all the complimentary Logic Studio software.
The problem I am having is, when I try to use it with Final Cut, it wont work at all. I have read the post concerning this that was answered by Andy Mees but, I dont use a true MIDI connection, only USB.
Any thoughts?Does Mackie Control work with Final Cut 7 when using USB MIDI?
No one will know until FCP 7 is released.

My entire TV show library does not appear when using home sharing to ipad
I've tried everything to get my entire library to show when using home sharing on the ipad but it only displays the shows under letter A to the beginning of F. Is there a limit on the seasons that can be displayed? Im streaming from itunes on a PC.
I figured out my own problem. Thanks dmule you're a genius. All I had to do was turn off home sharing on my iPad and then turn it back on. Now all the video art work matches their proper movies.

Firewire Problem When Using External Burner
Before I go into detail about my problem let me say that I contacted the manufacturers CS and they were unable to help (sent a new burner and I still had the same problem).
I finally got an external DVD burner, the lacie d2 with Lightscribe, and I plugged it in the firewire port, updated it with all the latest drivers and tried burning some cd's from an iTunes (7.1) playlist. It checked the media, started to burn the first song and and immediately went to finishing the disc burning without going through the other songs. But then it just hung there (the player started running, I could hear it, but when it froze after the 1st song he player just quieted down). I left it alone for awhile figuring it would eject the disc but nothing happened. I was unable to stop the process, quit iTunes or even eject the disc. Eventually I had to force quit and restart the computer.
I tried it using Toast but I got an error the first time and the second time I tried it froze on the burn screen. The funny thing is I'm able to burn when using the usb connection (it's really slow though, 1.0) and I'm able to rip cd's when connected via friewire but burning causes all types of problems.
The burner shows up on the system profile (vendor supported after updating with drivers), I've switched firewire cables, and used both ports on the iMac and the dvd burner, and after contacting Lacie they sent me a second burner but the problem persisted. I use a lacie external hard drive and never had a problem with it so I was wondering if anyone had an explanation or a similar problem. If not I was thinking of sending this second one back and trying the new Sony firewire dvd burners.
And one last thing, I got this because my superdrive gave up on me, although it's still recognized in the system profiler, it just doesn't start up if I put in a cd or dvd.
Please help as I'm at the end of my rope with this burner.
iMac G4 Flat Screen Mac OS X (10.4.9)I'm curious if the internal superdrive's inaccessibility to the system and
the firewire port issues are related; or share a common thread in how
they may require one action to try and make them work.
Aside from that speculation, have you tried seeing what the Apple
Hardware Test (boot the computer from it) says in regard to this
matter and the details of any error codes it may generate? And
if you can run Disk Utility from the installer OSX disc#1 from the
external FireWire disc drive, to see if any maintenance can help
the system, that would be nice.
There also are third-party freeware disc burn utilities; and a few share-
ware ones that are quite good. They usually will work in problematic
situations where the hardware is OK and the basic OS X is, too; but
for some reason the external FW or internal replacement Superdrive
won't burn a disc or does it partially; or improperly. I've used my disc
burners so rarely I am not a great one to improvise here; but I did get
Burn 1.7u (v12) http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net and it does work well.
Can you boot the computer from any of the DVD - Firewire external
recorder/players you have or had? You should be able to boot the OSX
from the installer disc#1 from a good external; but some may not do it.
Was there any issue in the procedures you described before upgrading
the system to 10.4.9? How about Quicktime 7.1.5 or iTunes 7.1.1? -
GS70 Stealth Pro Crashes when using external monitor..
Hi Guys,
I just bought a GS70 ghost pro a few weeks ago and have been loving it, no problems, running Battlefield 3 and watchdogs..
However I just bought an external monitor, Asus VG248QE, when i connected it via display port and tried to play Battlefield 3 on the external monitor the laptop crashed - both screens blank- fan on- power button went orange- had to hold down the power button to reset.
Tried it again, opened Bf3 in window mode, put it on external monitor, went to full screen - it played ok for a few minutes then the laptop crashed again..
I had played bf3 no problems on the laptop screen previously.
Anyone got any ideas what might be going on? I'm new to gaming on pc so I'm a bit lost, any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks,

Applications disappear when using external mouse
Using windows 7 professional on a brand new T410 (2537-RZ5).
Happens only when using an external mouse and mouse is stationary for random periods of time (seconds or minutes).
Problem: all applications (internet explorer, office, etc) will suddenly disappear (sometimes only leaving outside border of application) to reveal desk top - does not matter which application i have open or whether there is one or multiple. Desktop color is correct but instead of solid color it has a diagonal ribbed effect to the color. Applications will reappear moment I move the mouse.
Happens with variety of external mouse - does not happen if using laptop mousepad (i.e. no plug in). All latest windows and lenovo updates installed as far as I know but has not fixed bug. Has happened again just while writing this message - quite frustrating.
Please help if you can.I noticed a similar phenomenon and found that my mouse cursor was landing over the sensitive spot on the right side of the task bar which harbors the "Show Desktop" Aero feature. Check it out.

Close the macbook pro when using external display
Hi
I would like to know if is recomended to close the laptop when using an external display? i ask because i read somewhere that the system take ventilation through the keyboard? is better to work with the laptop always open? or doesn't matter if is closed?Third opinion...
I had a 2.16GHz 15" MacBook Pro that I used as a presentation machine at some trade shows in '07 and I once ran the machine with the lid closed, hooked up to an overhead projector looping a movie for 11 hours. When I finally shut it down for the night the machine was pretty warm (it was well ventilated) and was immediately usable. Out of curiosity the next day I ran it with a lid slightly cracked and the unit was significantly warmer at the completion of my day.
The only thing I could justify as the temperature difference is that the LCD was on and causing heat in addition to the video card. I guess I would have been curious to leave the lid slightly cracked and then manually set the backlight to off. -
How to blank laptop screen when using external monitor/
Hi there
I need some help with figuring out how to configure my xorg.conf for my Arch Linux 64 bit installation on a HP Pavilion dv 5000 laptop so that I can automatically blank my laptop screen when using an external monitor. I have Arch Linux installed along with Ubuntu Feisty. In Ubuntu my external monitor (Viewsonic 1912WB) was not detected at the time of installation but with the native 1280X800 resolution that is good for the laptop takes effect for the external monitor automatically when the external monitor is plugged in. The laptop monitor goes blank when the external monitor is plugged in.
In my Arch Linux installation I have not been able to configure a dual head configuration using the ATI Radeon drivers (fglrx). I have the native 1280X800 resolution set up for the laptop monitor and this resolution takes effect for the external monitor also. However the laptop monitor also continues to function when the external monitor is plugged in. I would like to blank the laptop monitor when using the external monitor.
I am attaching my Arch Linux xorg.conf and the Ubuntu xorg.conf below. Thanks for anyone who can help, I am having a lot of difficulty in figuring out how to set up xorg.conf among all the things that I have had to learn so far in Linux and I am a relative newcomer to the whole thing. I have tried to compare the two xorg.conf files and edit my Arch xorg.conf in accordance with the Ubuntu one but it did not work and I keep getting errors!
I am using XFCE as my Desktop environment.

How to remove namespaces in mapping when using External Definition
Hi,
I read in the blog (/people/sameer.shadab/blog/2005/12/05/how-to-remove-namespaces-in-mapping--xi) that you are able to remove namespaces in mapping by deleting the value from XML Namespace under the Message Type. However, is it possible to do this when you are using External Definition (xsd) ? The blog only describe how to do this if you define a Data Type.Hi ,
No ..it is not possible to remove the namespace once you imported into IR of external defintion. You can remove your namesapce from external definition before importing into IR.
