Library strangness...

Any help greatly appreciated here Will list the issues I am having rather than try to explain.
iPhoto 6 and all the latest sw updates as of 22nd Sept 2006.
1. Noticed that many of my photos (generally 2001, 2002, 2003) were showing up as thumbnails but had grey photo missing warning when entering full screen mode.
2. Did a search for each image with Spotlight, moved the image file (sometimes there were multiples so only moved one and left others in place) to Desktop, deleted image in iPhoto (thumbnail) and then reimported. Moved to film roll that it should be in.
All images found in the iPhoto Library file structure.
3. Have noticed that many of the missing images were found in one of two film roll folders in the iPhoto Library folder. Years were way out though. Also have random mixes of images in the wrong folder in the finder but they don't appear in the related Fill Roll in iPhoto.
4. One potential issue is that many files have same DSCxxxxx number as they are from different cameras or formatting memory card starts count from scratch again. Assume iPhoto is clever and uses the EXIF data and not just the file name
5. I appear to have multiple copies of some images with file names having _2 or _3 at the end
6. I have in the past with previous versions of iPhoto rebuilt the library
Should I do a backup and a complete rebuild ?
Should I create a new library and re-import everything again
Really don't want to lose the transformations I've done. Albums I can live without and re-create if needed.
Many thanks in advance,
Simon

You can try that and see if the library will still operate normally. Another possibility is to rebuild the library with iPhoto Library Manager. It creates a new library and copies the needed info from the old database file and what image files needed. That may cull out those apparent misplaced files. It will take a while so plan it at the end of your day. Here's how.
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.
Worth a try as all you'll lose is some time.

  • Recover "Purchased Music" Playlist

    Under the "Store" section in iTunes, I accidently deleted the "Purchased Music" playlist that contains a playlist of all purchased music on that computer. Note that I did NOT delete the music, just the playlist.
    For example under "Store" instead of showing:
    Store
    -iTunes Store
    -Shopping Cart
    -Purchased Music
    But mine just shows:
    Store
    -iTunes Store
    -Shopping Cart
    I looked under all the settings and preferences I could find to try to turn it back on. I also tried searching and just found a bunch of threads where people had deleted their purchased music, not this playlist.
    If I can't get it back that's fine, but figured I would ask since it one of the defualt playlists. Thanks in advance.

    i did as described (created a smart playlist with purchased and protected AACs), and it has successfully identified my purchased files, but when i try to drag them to the green purchased playlkist under "store" they do not transfer. it is as if the "purchased" playlist is protected from any additions that do not come from the itunes store, although all of these songs were purchased on the itunes store. any suggestions?
    Try dragging the actual songs from your Library into the Purchased playlist, and not the songs that appear from the Smart Playlist; use the Smart Playlist to identify the purchased entries and try again this way.
    Although I'm not totally sure why it isn't adding to your Purchased list. I just added the same purchased song to my Purchased playlist twice, through both methods described. (from Smart Playlist and from my Library)

  • Has any Coldplay fan lost purchased content within iTunes, I have recently noticed my Coldplay Live 2012 purchased on iTunes is gone from my iCloud library and no longer available for purchase ! A bit strange considering there new album just went on sale

    Recently I have noticed my iTune purchased concert movies after being put back in the cloud are currently missing.
    I have never had purchased content from iTunes vanish from my iCloud library and also not be available for purchase on iTunes.
    When I had Apple personnel attempt to push the content back to me, they could not find Coldplay's Live 2012.
    Even more strange considering their new album just went on sale and renewed interest must be prompting fans to review their collections.
    A beautifully shot concert film is missing, a sad situation to be sure!
    Thanks for any iCloud wisdom and other fans noticing the same thing.

    Thanks, Michael.  Itunes Match is not enabled on my daughter's Itouch.  I have subscribed to it and have used the service to back up my song purchases.  I merely did a sync via USB (as normal) to her Itouch.  The sync wiped out 85% of the playlists that were on my home computer for the last seveal years.  I have updated her itouch multiple times - both before and after I had subscribed to iTunes Match.  After the last sync to her iTouch, the playlists just disappeared.   My home computer is the main device I use to manage my Itunes library and my playlists.  I am not sure what happened?
    BTW - how are you affiliated with Apple?  Are you?  I feel like I have explained the issue pretty clearly, but your responses seem to focus on her iTouch and not my computer, where the playlists are managed.  I want to know how to get the playlists back on my computer.
    Thanks for your help.  Rob

  • Strange ... Projects opened from Projects View are no longer (3.3) selected on the Library tab of the Inspector.

    Strange goings on here with my Libraries: Projects opened from Projects View are no longer (3.3) selected on the Library tab of the Inspector.  When, in Projects View, I double-click a Project, that Project's contents are shown in the Browser, but the selection shown on the Library tab of the Inspector remains on "Projects" near the top of the tab.
    This is, imho, _very very very bad_.  Can someone confirm this behavior on their machine?  Is this announced or expected?
    Thanks.

    Hi Kirby,
    I never noticed!
    Can someone confirm this behavior on their machine?
    Confirmed! (on MBP und iMac)
    Is this announced or expected?
    Don't know - it does not follow from the release notes, as far as I understand them.

  • For some strange reason the songs in my library are multiplying. For example, I really only have 4,000 songs but every time I open itunes I have 6,8,10,000 songs! Any one else have this problem.  How do I stop that from happening?

    This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
    Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
    Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Strange 'Unknown Album' listings in ATV Podcasts library

    Hello,
    I'm new to the Apple TV and have just come across this strange problem of 'Unknown Album' listings in my ATV Podcasts library.
    I converted four TV programmes to .m4v and moved them first into my iTunes Movies folder on my iMac. Only my Photos are 'synced'- the other library stuff is streamed to my ATV.
    I later tagged the four converted TV Programmes in the iTunes Get Info/Video Kind box as TV Shows, and discovered that this created the 'TV Shows' folder in my iTunes Library and this folder now contained the four TV programmes. They also appeared under 'TV Shows' on my Apple TV and play fine. They no longer appear in the ATV's Movies listing.
    However I also discovered that I now have four 'Unknown Albums' in my ATV Podcasts library, and these are the same four TV shows referred to above, which can also be played from the ATV Podcast library. These 'Unknown Albums' are not in my iTunes Podcast library. So I can't delete them, and I don't know how they got there in the first place.
    Does anyone know what I've done wrong here, and how I can fix it?
    Thanks.

    I don't think it has anything to do with the way they were converted. I used Handbrake for some and VisualHub for others. I only mentioned the conversion to give as complete a background to the issue as possible.
    Maybe it has something to do with how they were imported into iTunes, or what I did/didn't do while tagging them with 'Get Info'. I'm not a great fan of iTunes, but not too familiar with it either. But the content appears and plays fine in iTunes. Only ATV shows these ghostly 'Unknown Albums'.

  • Strange images in iphoto library

    Hi,
    When I double click to enlarge my iphotos, the picture scroll bar at the top does NOT match the pictures at the bottom. If I click on one at the top, it enlarges the correct photo, but that is NOT the picture shown in the small scrolling top.
    Additionally, the first two pictures in my library show photos that were sent to me as an email attachment (when I click them, I also no longer see them, but the first 2 pics from my library). This makes me wonder if the email attachment has somehow corrupted my iphoto (it's a soldier's coffin & his wife at the funeral home sleeping next to his casket).
    Any help with this strange problem is greatly appreciated!
    macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    tasses:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library folder just in case. Now open the Data file on your working library and move all of the sub folders to the Trash. Then launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options except the "orphan" photos one. See if that will get the thumbnails linked to the correct file.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Strange Behaviour with iTunes Library.

    Hello,
    I moved my itunes library some months ago to an external hard drive. Everything was fine. Recently I have started to get '!' next to the filenames - indicating that itunes cannot find the file. Strangely, the TV shows still work it is just the music that doesn't. dI have exported the Library to XML and checked the paths to the file and it seems to be correct and I cannot discern a difference between the paths to the music files and that to the movies &/or TV, see example below:
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/TitaniumFireDrobo/iTunesFiles/iTunes%20Music/Level%2042 /The%20Definitive%20Collection/The%20Sun%20Goes%20Down%20(Living%20It%20Up).m4p</string>
    doesn't work; but the following does:
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/TitaniumFireDrobo/iTunesFiles/iTunes%20Music/TV%20Shows /Ashes%20to%20Ashes/01%20Episode%201.m4v</string>
    Getting mad now.

    please help me out here. does anyone have any idea on how to do this?

  • Strange "Call Library function" behaviour

    I'm facing a very strange problem during last week. I need to call some functions using Call library function node.
    I have done many times in the past and I'm quite sure to call the function in the right way but I need help.
    Synthetically I have to call in order the following functions:
    DVRInitLibrary
    DVRGetLibraryVersion
    DVROpenConnection2
    DVRConnectSite
    DVRDisconnectSite
    DVRCloseConnection
    The first three functions works fine (I have the same result using it under Visual Studio!!). The function that I'm not able to call correctly is the following:
    DVRRESULT WINAPI DVRConnectSite(
    DVRHANDLE Handle,
    LPCSTR SiteIP,
    INT SitePort,
    LPCSTR UserID,
    LPCSTR Password,
    INT AReadTimeOut
    The function return a generic error code that doesn't give any useful information. Attached there is an image showing the way I'm calling the function. I did a lot of trials but I'm not able to understand the problem (under Visual Studio on the same machine It works!!). Same result on LabVIEW 7.1.1 or 8.6.1 or 2009 under Windows XP.

    First of all thank you for your answers.
    Taking into account your advice yesterday I was able to correctly connect to my DVR using the .NET solution (attached youcan find the block diagram).
    As for the DLL call, you don't show your LabVIEW code, but be aware that a CStr is not the same as an LPCSTR. The latter is a pointer to a constant string. Thus, the DLL is expecting a pointer to a memory location that contains a string that will not change.
    I got your point, but now I don't know how to pass an LPCSTR to this function. I also try to search here but I wasn't able to find some help.

  • Strange "corruption" of Aperture Library

    I say "corruption" in quotes because I'm not sure that's what it was, but anyway....
    On my rMBP Aperture (3.3.3) starts more or less instantaneously - the 'Loading Aperture Library' message appeared for about a second (27GB library).
    Then, out of the blue, it slowed dramtically - the 'Loading' message appearing for ~10 seconds.
    This coincided with me inadvertently importing ~160 Canon CR2 raw files into the Library as Managed. When I realized my mistake I converted them to Referenced using File->Relocate Masters. Whether this was just coincidental I don' t know, but tonight I ran 'Rebuild Database' (holding Command-Option while starting Aperture). It took about 3 hours, but now Aperture is back to it's lightning fast startup.
    OK, so it's fixed, but I'm curious (and a little concerned) about what happened, in case it happens again. Moving Manged photos to Referenced (and vice versa) is a normal operation so was it just coincidence?
    Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Hello I have a similar problem : I have to pass a cluster parameter containing numeric values in C DLL (that configure serial channels on a Serial Board) as a Struct so defined :
    struct ChannelInfoEx
    ViInt16 interfaceType;
    ViInt32 baudRate;
    ViInt16 numBits;
    ViInt16 stopBits;
    ViInt16 parity;
    ViUInt16 flowControl;
    This parameter is passed to a VI as a AdaptToType with a format Handles by Value
    All the fields of the struct (except interfacetype the first one) have a shifted values (stopbits has the value for parity numbits for stopbits and so on).
    This problem is raised when I have deleted from the first filed of the struct (ViInt16 channelName) and I have tried to define all the fields as ViInt32 and the parameters are passed correctly.
    Someone could help me and explain this strange behaviour ?? It's a Labview bug ??
    There is a way to avoid to redefine all the fields as ViInt32 in the DLL ??

    Hey there,
    I noticed a strange difference between the appearance of the app icons in my library (1st screenshot) and on the iTunes store (2nd screenshot). Can somebody else duplicate this issue. Any ideas to solve this?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Yes, this is a glitch in which some of my friends have been having lately With the iOS 8 update. I believe there is no solution to this at them time, but I am sure that Apple will release an update soon with millions of bug fixes.
    Does the Application still function correctly though?
