Library TOO BIG for upgrade!

My collection is over 70,000 songs. I upgraded. Library lost. Read "No content shows up in iTunes after updating" but my HD isn''t big eunf. Using external HD for Library. Dragging library to desktop simply won't work! Should I get an older version of iTunes? Please...I have several videos to produce and I may get too drunk to complete them!

No such thing as “too many songs”. :-D

The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
Manage the iPod either Manually or via Selected Playlists.

  • Time Machine iTunes Library too big for new Macbook Air

My Macbook Pro went out of commission some time ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to get a Macbook Air to replace it. I had a Time Machine backup of all my old files on an external hard drive, however I had quite an extensive music library that is far too large for my current storage. I do have a backup computer with Windows 7. Is there some way I can access my full music library (over 200 gb) on a different computer through the Time Machine backup or in some fashion so I can put the music I want onto my new computer?

    NEVERMIND I FOUND A SOLUTION

  • "automatically managed" library too big for phone

You say that devices photo library will be automatically managed so as to make the most of your device's storage.
I put my Mac Photos library on iCloud & synced it with my phone - with the 'optimise' setting.
My phone is now still out of space - how am I supposed to resolve this? I can't delete new photos I have taken, even those that have synced over to my Mac, as they will disappear there too. This morning I filmed two videos & one transferred over iCloud to the Mac but the other did not. Again, I can't delete these videos as I would have done prior to iCloud Photo Library as they will delete off the Mac too.
This system doesn't seem to me to be working. There is no way to free up space on the phone.
The Usage info says I have 2.2GB in my photo library & 1.3MB synced from iTunes Library. Considering you can't sync ANY photos via iTunes with iCloud enabled surely that should be zero (tho at 1.3MB its hardly the problem here)
Finally, iTunes' usage chart for the phone tells me I have 2.8GB free (an amount I am happy with) but the phone's own Usage page says 590MB free.
    Something is very screwy here.

  • Library too big for my Nano...

So how do I choose the music I want to sync for my Nano? Do I have to make a "Nano" playlist and then just sync that playlist? Is there another way to do it?
    Thanks

If you have more music in your library than will fit on your iPod there are a couple of things you could do. One is yo mange the iPod manually and just drag and drop the content you want to it:
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
The other is to use the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists'. Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • Library too big for single 2TB drive...

    hi guys
my iTunes library has reached the point where it won't fit into a single My Book 2TB drive anymore & i was wondering if iTunes could have it's library ''spread across'' a couple of drives but here's the catch : since i have it alphabetically could i have say, one drive with artists up to the letter M & the rest in the other ?...while having them mirrored so they are automatically backed up when i load new music into them. is Disk Utility up to that ?
sorry these are two questions in reality...
any help would be dearly appreciated since i don't know how to move forward & still have SOOO MANY albums to get in there...
    thanks in advance

just to make sure i got it right : after i ''untick'' both those boxes, when i pop in a CD in my iMac & i tell iTunes that yes, i want to import it , iTunes will place it randomly in either one of the drives ?
When you go to Edit > Preferenced > Advanced, in addition to the "Keep..." and "Copy..." options, you will see a box for the "iTunes Media Folder" location. When you rip a CD, iTunes places the files in the iTunes Media Folder location that is specified at the time you rip. You should probably keep it set to the less full drive.

  • ITunes library too big for Nano

I have a 4G nano and about 45G on my computer. Is there a way that I can make a playlist to transfer onto my nano rather than just letting iTunes make a selection?

Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use
The first thing you need to do is make sure have configured your iPod to enable disk use. To do this:
    Open iTunes on your computer.
Connect your iPod to your computer and wait for it to appear in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source pane under the Devices section to display your iPod preferences in the main library window.
Click the Summary tab in the main iTunes window.
Click the Manually manage music button. Changing from automatic updating to manual puts a check mark by Enable disk use. A message says
"Disabling automatic update requires manually unmounting the iPod before each disconnect."
Click OK in the message window.
Click Apply in the iPod preferences section of the iTunes window.

  • I have my iTunes library on an external HD because it is too big for my iMAC 500GB HD. I want to backup my external HD. Can I do this with any Apple cloud product or should I look elsewhere? Also is it worth just buying another external HD to back up

I have my iTunes library on an external HD because it is too big for my iMAC 500GB HD. However, it is not backed up, so I need a solution to backup my external HD. Can I do this with any Apple cloud product or should I look elsewhere for cloud products? Will it be cheaper/easier just to buy another external HD to back up my existing external HD? Thanks

I don't know if this is me adding files to iTunes when the external wasn't connected
    it is.
is it OK to just keep deleting that library on the Air?
    i wouldn't - at least not until i
    mount the external
point iTunes media folder location back to the external via preferences > advanced
consolidate my library via file > library > organize library
The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know.
in order for your Mac to write to NTFS drives, it needs some help by installing e.g. the NTFS 3G driver. apparently that or something similar is installed on your Mac already. preferably, it would be formatted for Mac but then windows machines would need to have e.g. MacDrive installed to recognize the drive.

  • Library too big?

    Hi there;
Just a quick question, if my iTunes library is too big, for instance i have 160gb ATV and my library is 200gb. Is it possible from the ATV, using the remote to select different movies, tv shows and songs to sync or does that have to be done from iTunes. For example; lets say im using ATV and because my library is too large i cannot sync everything. Using ATV am i able to say, remove movie X from the ATV which will create room on the ATV and thus sync movie Y or does that all have to be done using iTunes?

    Scud89 wrote:
oh, i didnt know that. so if my library is too big i can simply sync as much as possible, and then whatever doesnt fit can be streamed directly to ATV??
    yes

  • Aperure 3 library too big.  crashes.

how big is too big for an aperture library to run smoothly?
is 200gb too big for my everyday library of images, or should that not be a problem on my 1 year old i5 quad  imac with 16gb of ram?
    thanks for the help.

    I recommend using a Referenced-Masters workflow.
It works great for 200k+ images, the Library with its Previews lives on the internal drive and is always accessible. Masters live on external drives. The Library is backed up via Vaults and originals are backed up to redundant locations using the Finder before import into Aperture.
Aperture is designed to bite into small chunks at a time, so TBs of data do not bother the app itself. However, handling super-large batches of data like hundreds of GB batches on consumer hardware tends to be problematic, it is that simple.
Slower speeds seem to exacerbate handling large data chunks.
IMO referenced Masters make far more sense than building huge managed-Masters Libraries. With referenced Masters one has no need to copy a 1.5 TB sized file. I find that even (2011 MBP) copying 5-15 GB-sized batches of RAW/JPEG files copying fails with some frequency, enough so that I always verify the copy.
    • Hard disk speed. Drives slow as they fill so making a drive more full (which managed Masters always does) will slow down drive operation.
    • Database size. Larger databases are by definition more prone to "issues" than smaller databases are (the Aperture Library is the db in this case).
    • Vaults. Larger Library means larger Vaults, and Vaults are an incremental repetitive backup process, so again larger Vaults are by definition more prone to "issues" than smaller Vaults are. One-time backup of Referenced Masters (each file small, unlike a huge managed-Masters DB) is neither incremental nor ongoing; which is by definition a more stable process.
Managed-Masters Libraries can work, but they cannot avoid the basic database physics.
Note that whether managed or referenced, original images should be separately backed up prior to import into Aperture or any other images management application. IMO after backing up each batch of original images importing that batch into Aperture as a new Project by reference makes by far the most sense. Building a huge managed Library or splitting into multiple smaller Libraries is less logical.

  • Attach/open file window too big for screen

Just recently I've found that when I go to attach a file in email for example, or open something in the finder the window that comes up from which I can choose my file is too big for the screen. So the bottom corner, which has the "attach" or "Cancel" buttons, is obscured. It's very frustrating... I can hit enter to attach a file but can't cancel it if I change my mind. Hope that makes sense... I've moved the dock out of the way but that doesn't help at all, and I can't use the green button to resize or anything.
Hope someone can help... I've also restarted the computer but the problem is still there. I'm using a macbook pro, and I have upgraded to the latest OSX software.
    thanks

  • When I open my iPad the page is too big for the screen and won't shrink down. The keypad has also become very 'sticky'

Recently when I open any apps the pages are too big for the screen. They shrink when pinched but immediately become bigger again. It's very difficult to scroll too. The keypad has become very sticky. Missing letters and spaces when I type and needing to tap the keys much harder than usual

I have the exact same problem, I think.  I was on my iPad 3's home page swiping R-L to locate a certain icon when all of a sudden the screen appeared to get HUGE.  So big I could only see one or two icons.  I couldn't even turn it off to try a reboot because after I pushed the sleep/wake button, I couldn't find the red slide bar.  I finally just had to wait for the battery to die, then recharge it, and it looked normal again.  I also spoke with several friends who haven either iPads or iPhones, and they've all had this happen to them.  I checked my accessibility settings, and Zoom was already off.  So what is causing this problem for so many people, and what can we do to prevent it?  Please help.

  • Why does is say purchaseable items too big for download every time I try to download an app?

Every time I try to download a game or app my iPhone says error message purchasable items too big for download. I even changed my billon information. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Connect your iPad to iTunes on your Mac/PC and then go to your iPad's summary window. Then click back up if you want to back up your iPad first. After that click restore. Later it will ask you if you want to setup the iPad as a new iPad. Select the option to setup your iPad with your latest back up.

  • A document page opens that is too big for the display and runs off the end of the monitor

How do you fix a problem where document pages open that are too big for the display and runs off the end of the monitor? The borders are off the monitor so there is no window edge to grab and adjust.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Sim card too big for ipad air?

i have taken delivery today of a new ipad air but even the mini simcard seems too big for the holder, is it safe to still put it in?

No. The iPad Air uses a Nano Sim. A Mini sim will not fit in the tray.
You need to talk to your Cellular carrier and have them give you a nano sim for the new iPad.

  • My iPad standard window is bit too big for the screen.

My iPad screen unexpectedly got slightly too big for the display window. The size is bit too big. For example, the keyboard when it pops up does not fully display all tkey sans. Another example is the time/power remaining bar slips out of sight.  Did I accidentally change something?  Is this an issue with version of iOS that I am using (4.3.3)? (Note I'm not talking about resizing by using your fingers.)

    John,
I am having the same problem.  The enlargement is not the same as the 3 finger tap or the 2 finger zoom.  The screen opens and then bumps to a slightly larger screen just enough to make it too big to see the outer edges.  You can put 3 fingers on the screen and move the screen to see the edges but you cannot get it to shrink to the correct size.  This is the second time this has happened to me.  I am also having some other issues.  Sometimes while in an app the app will close and I will be diverted to the home screen.  And sometimes when playing "with Friends games" the letters on the letterboard (not the key pad) disappear, will not move or are giant.  I plan on taking it back to the Apple store this week but I hate the idea of having to start over.
