Library too new?

Hi all,
I'm getting the following error message:
"The file "iTunes Library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes"
Now if I insert my iPod shuffle, iTunes will load. If I just click on it I get the error message. I have iTunes 7.5(19) installed. Is there some preference file I can dump? I don't want to lose my library.
Any help would be welcomed, thanks.

Found the answer myself & it worked like a charm Thanks jwmort for that feedback.

    on AppStore it says:
    FaceTime can’t be installed on “HDD Name” because the version of Mac OS X is too new.

    After upgrading my MacBook to Lion, FaceTime (purchased from the App Store) quit working. It would just hang when I'd hit the button to "Turn on FaceTime".
    So from a terminal, I deleted:

    Now, when I go to the App Store to install FaceTime, I get the same error as the OP.

  • Is it possible to avoid dependencies on too new symbols in libCstd.so?

    Hello,
    I'd like to know if it's possible to somehow tell the Solaris linker to avoid
    using the symbols with versions newer than the given one. E.g. on my
    snv_111b OpenSolaris system there are a couple of symbols with SUNW_1.4.2
    version:
    % pvs -o -s -C -d /usr/lib/libCstd.so.1|fgrep SUNW_1.4.2|c++filt
    /usr/lib/libCstd.so.1 - SUNW_1.4.2: bool std::operator==<char,std::char_traits<char>,std::allocator<char> >(const std::basic_string<__type_0,__type_1,__type_2>&,const __type_0*);
    /usr/lib/libCstd.so.1 - SUNW_1.4.2: bool std::operator==<char,std::char_traits<char>,std::allocator<char> >(const __type_0*,const std::basic_string<__type_0,__type_1,__type_2>&);These symbols are not present in libCstd.so on the customers Solaris 10
    machines so I'd like to ensure that they are not used in the libraries which I
    build. Unfortunately I couldn't find any clean way to ensure this. In fact the
    only way I did find was to edit /opt/sunstudio12.1/prod/include/CC/Cstd/string
    and to comment out the declarations of these operators there. Which is not
    only dirty and unmaintainable but also actually more than I need to do
    because, as these operators are inline, most often they're indeed inlined and
    it's not a problem to use them. It's only a problem to depend on these (too
    new) symbols in the library.
    So the question is whether I can somehow coax the linker to give an error
    when these symbols are used?
    Thanks in advance for any ideas!

    $ cat mapfile
    libCstd.so - SUNW_1.1.1 $ADDVERS=SUNW_1.1.1;
    $ CC -M mapfile  a.cc

  • Transferring library to new laptop

    I know there're loads of posts on this subject but feel I need extra help, being such a complete novice and technophobe!
    Have an old sony viao on its last legs running windows xp and have just purchased a Dell running windows 7. I obviously want to transfer my itunes library to new laptop so I can sync my old nano and recently purchased Iphone4. Previous posts suggest transferring using "media folder" Where would I find this? Also, do I need to purchase an external hard drive to transfer? Surely theres got to be an easier way?
    Any help would be gratefully appreciated as feel Im sinking into an itunes nightmare!!

    I am researching this right now as I just got an new computer and I do not think it is that easy. I do not plan to follow the previous person's advice anyway. I am going to try this freeware program that is supposed to work really well from some reviews on Cnet.
    Freeware http://www.copytrans.net/copytranstuneswift.php
    I'll let you know, but do not rely on transferring your stuff from your iPod to the new computer. If that were the case people wouldn't be researching it so hard to figure out how to do it right! Besides that would make it way too easy for people to give their friends the music and apps that they've purchased if it was as easy and plugging it in to a different computer ...

  • I finished adding my transtions to my timeline.  I was having crashing issues so I shut down everything before I rendered the project and now it tells me that the project is unreadable or the file is too new for this version of final cut. What Happened?

    I finished adding my transtions to my timeline.  I was having crashing issues so I shut down everything before I rendered the project and now it tells me that the project is unreadable or the file is too new for this version of final cut. What Happened?

    What Happened?
    No way for us to know.  But if your system was crashing, there definitely was a problem.  The FCE error message you got normally indicates the FCE project file has been corrupted.  This probably happened due to whatever caused your system to crash & shutting down the system.
    First, make sure your system is running correctly.  Then, use the Finder to navigate to /users/yourusername/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents/Autosave Vault and find the most recent backup copy of your FCE project file.  Copy the file to your Final Cut Express Documents folder (copy the file, don't just move it).  Then double-click the copy to open it in FCE.  It should open ok, but will probably not have your most recent edits (transitions).  You may have to rebuild the transitions, but at least you will be back in action.

  • Project is unreadable or too new and other problems - battery problem?

    For the third time in the last two months, my FCP project has failed to open with the error: This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut. (Previously I was lucky in that my autosaved versions opened, but no on this time.)
    The program also unexpectedly quits every fairly often, lately for example, upon closing a project, instead the entire application "unexpectedly quit".
    Also, over the past couple of days, once or twice upon startup, it has given me the error: Your computer's clock is set to a date before march 24th 2001.
    Are all of these problems related? Do I have bad RAM? Or a dying battery? Would that cause me to have these problems?
    I'm running 10.4.9 and FCP 5.1.4 on my G5 Dual 2.3GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5GB of DDR2 SDRAM. I have already repaired the permissions, deleted preferences and render files. None of my external hard drives have less than 10% free space and my startup drive has nearly 50% free. I am afraid to keep working in FCP because I'm never sure if the project will open up or not the next time.
    Also I am currently living in Shanghai where it is 15 hours ahead of California and where it is also really tough to get good Apple support. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Jim, Thanks for your advice. I restarted using the install discs and tried to repair the disc using Disc Utility First Aid but unfortunately it stopped repairing:
    Verify and Repair disk "Macintosh HD"
    Checking HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checing Catalog file.
    Invalid extent entry
    Volume check failed.
    error: The underlying task reported failure on exit.
    1 HFS volume checked
    1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
    Does this mean I have to use Disc Warrior or Tech Tools Pro? If so, which is better?
    Also I searched for the Hardware Test disc in my original discs, but all I found was the Install Disc 1 and 2. Going to change the battery next but would still like to test my RAM...

  • Project too new for final cut 6.0.2 error message

    My colleague at work has edited a rough cut on her Quad Core Intel computer. I'm using a Power Mac G5, and was able to download the project onto my desktop, but I get this message every time I try to open it: "This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut." We're both using FCP 6.0.2, I've done all the software updates I can, but I still receive the message. Does anyone know what I can do?

    Did the person use the same workstation you are using? If you have the other person's volume mounted on your desktop, and you are definitely running the same OS, and you have the same version of FCP, then try opening the original file, not a copy. If it opens, do a *"save as"* instead of using a duplicated copy of the project.
    Also, if they are using a different workstation, they may have another 3rd party component installed that they used, (maybe a filter or codec), that would interfere with it opening. The best way to make sure FibreJet works seemlessly in a multi-station work environment is to make absolutely sure that every station is a clone of the others. If you do an update on one, you have to do it on all. If you add an application, make sure you add it to all stations.
    If you are using a different workstation, try to open it with the other station, then mount your desktop to that station through the LAN, and do a *"save as"* to your desktop, then try opening it from there.
    Of course, do all this after trying to zip it before copying it. It only takes a second and would eliminate one aspect of the possible problem.

  • Can't open project, "catalog is too new"

    Error message reads: The document “CurrentVersion.fcpproject” could not be opened. The catalog is too new.
    So...how do I open the project?

    You're exactly right. I'm just firing up a new machine and didn't check my version against the app store — I'm still getting used to the move of pretty burly applications out of the Software Update realm into the App Store update realm.
    Thanks for the quick and accurate diagnosis blimpmedia.

  • I tried to copy my itunes library to new drive now I'm in trouble

    I bought a new 1tb internal drive and installed it. I wanted a dedicated spot for a 500 gig music library and a place for dedicated backup. The man at micro center told me in order to move the library from the 1tb lacie external drive to the new drive that i should just open both drives in finder then drag the itunes folder from the lacie to the new drive. Once they were copied to the new internal drive i thought everything was fine.. the songs played..... until I turned off the lacie, then suddenly I got the question marks by the songs when i tried to play them. Here's just one of the places I screwed up! I next decided to drag the itunes music folder from the lacie into the open itunes window. What I got was a doubling of all the songs. Then I decided I would just start over again and erase the new drive and import the library again, but this time from the lacie with carbon copy cloner. When I opened I tunes after this was done and reset the music folder pathway to the new drive I still had all the songs doubled. Here's where it gets worse, I decided to return the pathway to the music folder back to the lacie, where I also chose to consolidate the library. SO, what I have is an itunes that says i have two of everything. I checked the actual itunes folder on the the lacie and it looks like in reality i do have only one of each song. So in fact it is sort of an illusion that i have a doubled library. What do i do now, how can i get rid of all the dups and straighten this whole mess out before it gets worse??

    this didn't work..... the "add to library" just put more songs in an already overcrowded itunes window. You know what is weird is that I use the get info on the music folder on the external drive and it doesn't say that there are more gigs of music than before ..but in the itunes window at the bottom where you see the size of your library it says the size is double what the "get info" on the drive says.
    I've wiped the new internal drive clean a few times since last night and re-tried different suggestions that folks here on discussions have given me and I still wind up with dups. This morning i tried this> wipe clean > reformat drive >open itunes with the option key down > chose "new library"> chose " new internal drive for location of library> went into preferences to advanced and chose my new drive and the new itunes as the pathway> opened my lacie drive and dragged the itunes music folder to the open itunes window on the left hand side at the top and started it immediately started to import songs. Then i checked some of the albums that were imported and yet again the duplicates were there ...only this time when i tried to play them i got play from each dup whereas before one would play and the other would give me the "not found " message [you know the sort of exclamation point thingy]. So this does mean that it is indexing or pointing to both drives, at least while the import is taking place i guess. SO HOW DO I GET RID OF THESE DUPS WITHOUT GOING THROUGH EACH ALBUM ON EACH DRIVE ?

  • Moved library to new hard drive, now nothing shows in iTunes

    I moved my library to a new internal hard drive, but the music does not show when I start up iTunes. I followed the instructions from the Apple website, so I don't know what to do. I can see the files on the new hard drive, so I know they are still around. I'm afraid to sync as I may lose everything. What do I do?
    VAIO PCV-RZ24G   Windows XP

    First - re-read all the instructions and figure out where you might have dropped a step. Below are three similar sites that explain the same process. One may help you diagnose what went wrong.
    My guess is that you moved or corrupted your Library database file in the process. But without more information, I am just taking a shot in the dark.
