Library Wiped - HELP!
Turned on my computer - and my music is gone. Rather, the music is still all over my computer from various sources, but iTunes doesn't know about it, or my playlists, or my settings, or anything. It's like I just got the program. I tried the troubleshoot 'How To Re-create your iTunes Library', because it sounded promising, but no luck. I don't have any iPod to restore from, using software I've read about elsewhere in this board.
Do I have to start from scratch? That would suck. Anything? Please?
Try holding down the Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\. Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

I just updated to the newest version of ITunes well, not just but a few days ago. Anyway I have windows 8, and in ITunes my Ipod 5th gen will not show up. I have tried somethings such as unpluging repluging, going to services and restarting, basiclly everything on yoyutube, none still work. It's ***** to cause I just wanted to put music on my Ipod, if anyone has an idea of what to do please give some suggestions.

1. Try the iPod troubleshooting assistant:
If you haven't already done so, try the steps in the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant (choose your iPod model from the list).
If the issue remains after following your iPod's troubleshooting assistant, follow the steps below.
2. Restart the iPod Service
3. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service
4. Empty your Temp directory and restart
5. Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed
6. Change your iPod's drive letter
7. Remove and reinstall iTunes
8. Disable conflicting System Services and Startup Items
9. Update, Reconfigure, Disable, or Remove Security Software
10. Deleting damaged or incorrect registry keys

My itunes won't launch even after reinstalling. Looked in itunes folder and somehow lost itunes library? HELP!
The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
and
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other location. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
If that still doesn't work, try this:

My computer broke, so I had to change the hardrive-hardisk(?). Now iTunes dosen't work anymore. It says that the program is either locked, is on a locked unit or I don't have the right to open the library? Help please?
Sometimes a restart can fix this issue, but sometimes you have to fix the iTunes Library.itl file.
Try quitting iTunes, renaming the itunes file "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library Old.itl"
then open itunes again
This should generate a new library file.
From this point you can try two different avenues.
1. Re-add everything to your library by going to the iTunes file menu, and selecting "add to library"
2. You can try deleting the iTunes Library.itl you created, changing the name of the old file back to iTunes Library.itl

Will Photo Library Manager help without library file
I recently upgraded to Leopard and added ilife to upgrade my iphoto from a reeaaally old version. I imported photos from the old version and Iphoto was working fine a couple weeks ago. Today, however, when I tried to open it, I got the Choose Your Library message. There is no library listed, nor can I find one. I have not done anything to iphoto or the library file since it was last opened and working fine. Will Photo Library Manager help if there is no library file? Is the albumdata.xml file in the iphoto database or is it somewhere else in my computer? Surely the files are there somewhere! What else can I do? I have a back-up but it has run since I last opened iphoto and I can't find a library file in there either. What is the library file called? Maybe I'm not looking for the write thing...

If the library was inadvertantly moved to certain areas of the HD Spotlight will not find it. Download and run Find File to search for "Library6.iPhoto". If you get a hit it's a good chance it's the library. Good Luck.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete. -
When i try and sync my IPOD Nano it says 'some of the items in the itunes library were not copied because they could not be found'. Unfortunately this is pretty much all my library! Help!
This means iTunes can no longer locate the file in the location specified via the Get Info window for each individual track. See the article for assistance.

Cannot see my fiance's library but she can see mine. Checked all appropriate boxes to share entire library. Help syays to check under Shared which does not even appear anywhere. It also said to check the "Look for share libraries" under shared pane which also does not exit in that pane. I am Windows 7 and she is Macbook. Thanks
I'm using an Airport Extreme, and I'm not aware of UPnP settings in the Airport Utility.
On the Mac, I set up a Parallels Vista instance in bridged mode and verified that I can see the other Vista PC share folders, so I know that the Vista PC has been set up correctly.
Additionally, as mentioned before, I switched DNS Servers several times, but settled on an alternative Rogers DNS to avoid their awful failed lookup ad page (64.71.255.202 if anyone needs it).
I also tried adding the Vista PC IP to my Mac hosts file, which oddly showed the Mac on the Vista side, but nothing on the Mac side.
I also goofed around in the smb.conf file with some settings, but alas, nada.
The only thing that might explain why the Airport Express network (Vista, XP) provided me with shares in the sidebar and not my own Airport Extreme network (just Vista) could be that it's a master browser issue. I saw a couple of posts about this.
If the Vista machine is the master browser, nothing will show in the sidebar, but if XP or a Mac is the master browser, then the sidebar will show shares. I don't have a way to verify this as I'm not sure how to force one machine to be a master browser over another. I'm suspicious if this will do anything as I've found other posts saying exactly the opposite scenario.
Is there anyone out there that has had a network, possibly with Airport Extreme, one Mac (Leopard), one Vista PC, and Vista share is showing in the Finder sidebar? -
I can not enable selected photos to sync to my iphone 5. It is greyed out. I do not want to sync my entire iPhoto library.. help!
Guys, I found another user and what he said to do worked!!! I have copied the information below:
This was 1 of the things that happend to me too, the other one was that at the bottom of the itunes page were it says all the memory info, it marked that I had over 3gb of other memory wich I didn't.
Anyways what I did was to unmark the calendar, contacts etc. ( so that they wont sync with the computer ), pressed apply, then I marked all of them again, apply again and for last I pressed Sync wich is at the bottom right coner by the apply botton.
I'm not sure that had anything to do with it but it worked, my music appeard both of my itunes playlists and the ones I bought in itunes. Also the other memory dissapeard and it's all good.
I'm not sure this will help you but thats my 5 cents, if the problem continues its better to call customer service and ask for a technician.

i have already downloaded the iPhoto 11 but when i try to pull up an old photo file its saying i need to prepare the library ? HELP !!!!
I upgraded Yosemete my Iphoto was upgraded I chose the wrong library, apparently I have more than one, so I followed the directions on the upgrade and no luck I cannot open my Iphotos unless I go through the search mode and find the file, otherwise it will not let me switch between libraries...So frustrating on a mac less than a year old GRRRR!

I have over 350 songs that were lost on mutliple devices in an accident.The original computer and Ipod were lost. My account has been the same for years but I can't access my old library. Help!!
<Email Edited by Host>Whatever you bought from iTunes is yours forever and can be downloaded as many times as you want. This assumes what you purchased is still available in the Store.
Here is the procedure for your reference.
On a computer, launch iTunes. Click on iTunes Store on the left
On the right you will see this
"Sign in" using the Apple ID used to purchase your songs, then click on "Purchased" (with the orange blob)
On the summary page that appears select the tab "Not on This Computer" on the right.
On the list that appears, select what you want and then click the "Download" button.
Whatever you have that did not originate from iTunes will have to be obtained from whatever means you used to obtain it in the past. -
ITunes Library wiped out after software update - Pls help !
I set my iMac periodically runs auto software update, and after I run iTunes 6.0.5 (20) software update, I opened iTunes and a warning message says, "Files moved to iTunes Library Damaged 1", and the library is empty !!
On further search, when I go into HD, a folder "iTunes Library" seem to have those previous songs. Looking thru the files, it seems as though they are all the songs I lost. Can I load these songs back to the iTunes Library, which is empty right now? Or are these damaged files?
FYI - I previously had iLife'05, but thru periodic software updates, iTunes is now version 6.0.5 (20). Is this compatible with the specs of my mac?
Kind of mad, b/c I literally just purchased songs and did not back them up....
Any help or advice is welcome.
Thanks!The first tip is to turn off the auto update features. The Mac OS will still go look but will ask you if you wnat to install. It is usually a good idea to wait a week or so after an update see what problems others are having.
You tunes files are ok - it is the "iTunes Library" and the "iTunes Music ....xml" that are damaged. These are data base files that work with iTunes and other programs so they know where to go look if a program needs to use something in iTunes.
When you open iTunes the 2 noted files above will be located in HD>User>Music>iTunes. you can just "add" the tunes back into the library and it should be ok. Note that you will lose your old info such as "date added" etc.
You can go to the Apple Store online and select the Apple Software option to see the system requirements for iLife06.

I have had an issue of my mini not being recognized in my iTunes although my library of songs, etc. was intact and all there.
I reinstalled the cd that came with my iPod, which says 'iPod' on the cd.
I think through this reinstallation, I completely erased all that was in my iTunes.
In 'My Music', the iTunes folder has my library on the computer, but even when I click on that folder, it still directs me to an empty library.
Please help me with how to get my library back in iTunes!!

In trying to create more HD space, I moved my iTunes library to an external drive, then deleted it from my internal HD. To make a long story short, I'm trying to recover my iTunes library from my Time Machine backup of yesterday. All works well when a window pops up that says "the operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access iTunes" (the folder I'm assuming).
I've tried every workaround I can find on the web, but nothing is fixing the problem. Any suggestions?You don't see a bunch of files and folders in an iTunes folder in your Music folder?
Pull it back out of the trash. Restore it from a backup. There's not much we can do without you being proactive and telling us what you did and what resources you have. -
Help..all the music on my sons 2nd gen Nano has been wiped out. When we attempt to sync it back up, we get an error message that says "Songs on the ipod Jakes Ipod cannot be synced because all the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist."
The songs are still on the library and are all checked..but they won't load because of the above error message.See this user tip.

Im really sorry if this has been posted about before but I just cannot find it anywhere on the discussion boards.
Yesterday I purchased some items from the itunes store, I havent upgraded to the latest version of itunes as I had heard people having trouble with it, as I have in the past, I dont know if this makes a difference. Once the items that I had purchased had been uploaded into my library I connected my ipod to download the tracks onto it. Once I connected my ipod it started to upload the items but when it had finished, it had only uploaded the purchased items I had just bought and deleted the entire contents of my ipod and the same with my library, it has been totally wiped apart from the purchased items that I have just bought.
I would be eternally grateful if someone could help me out with retreiving all my 'lost' songs/tv/video etc, Im a bit of a technical numpty and have found that hitting it is just not working There is probably a simple way of sorting it out. Ive had my ipod for at least 6 years and as you can imagine would absolutely hate for everything to be deleted.

then nothing else happens. But as my ipod and library seem to have been wiped why is there a message coming up about podcasts as these arn't in my library nor on my ipod anymore?
