Libwebkit(webkit-gtk) based browsers very slow on some sites

Tried midori, epiphany and vimprobable.
Slow performance on google reader, when viewing feeds.
On some apple pages, for example: http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/ (100% cpu usage and browser freezes for few minutes).
And some others.
At the same time in arora(webkit-qt based) all working fast and smooth.
So.. i'am wondering, is it only me? Or is it Arch version of libwebkit? Or maybe this is global issue?
p.s. i'am using x86_64 OS.

This has been merged since the 1.3.6 dev release, I've tried to backport the patch to 1.2.5 but with very limited success (API has been bumped big time and if cairo patch passes something else breaks).
You can very easily use PKBUILD from libwebkit-gtk in extra to build 1.3.7 dev version.

Compiling on my laptop takes forever it seems so I didn't want to maintain this one in AUR, if someone else is willing to do this then great It's one thing to have fun for myself, entirely different to be responsible for something many others are using.

Safari gets stuck/very slow on some sites

Some weeks ago I did install by mistake a Mavericks Developer Pre-Release of 10.9.2 (or 10.9.3... I don't remember exactly) on my development Mac.
Since then Safari gets stuck on some sites; one of them is StackOverlow. The page loads partially then Safari hangs for some time 5-15 secs. (user interface becomes non-responsive with spinning wheel) then the page finish to load.
I was hoping the problem would have been fixed with the first public release so I didn't swiched back to the last backup (second mistake, very stupid).
Now on 10.9.5, Safari 7.1.2 (9537.85.11.5) the problem still persists.
I hope there is a way to fix the issue without reinstalling everything.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
     after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
     Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
     Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

amount of calculations on tables..then the report
processing can be very slow...
In that case try to create a table to store ur calculations
temporarily and try to use that table in the report..

SharePoint Site Very Slow and some time Request Timed Out

Hi All
I have many Web Application is running in SharePoint Farm. Since yesterday one of the web application started responding very slow. It takes 5 to 6 mins to load the page. Some time i received request timed out error message. But all other web applications
are working good.
I increased executionTimeout value, stall it slow / not responding.
Please let us know if you have come across this issues or any suggestion from your end to resolve this issue.

i would recommend enable the developer dashboard on the web app and check which task is consuming the more time i.e. webpart, query to database etc.
also any change to web app since the issue started, any new webpart added to the page, any solution deployed or something else.
also did you try to recycle the app pool of the web applications?
how many wfe in the farm?

Safari (and other browsers) very slow loading "content rich" web pages

Hi,
I'm a very "light" user of my mac, using it basically for surfing the web, uploading pictures and music, etc... and recently any web page that has a lot of content (examples are nfl.com, nba.com, nhl.com, mlb.com, united.com, continental.com) takes a very long time to load (most other web pages load normally). Safari (and Firefox as well) gets to the web page in an instant, but then sits there trying to load content (mostly high res pictures and ads I suppose), which sometimes takes minutes or just never fully downloads the content. I'm connected to the internet via ethernet (high speed cable modem from Time Warner), and they've already come out and verified that everything on their end is fine. I've followed the instructions posted on some of the other similar posts (emptying cache, deleting cookies, disenabling add on's, reseting safari, logging in as another user, etc..), and this has not helped. Since this problem is persistent with both browsers, I'm wondering if this may be an OS issue as opposed to a browser issue. If someone can walk me through a solution (keep in mind that I'm a novice), that would be much appreciated.

Could be.
Since the problems exist with multiple browsers, login to another user account on your Mac. Try Safari there. If you see the same behavior with Safari there, then follow the instructions here. You will need your install disc. The startup disk may need repairing. Even if Safari is ok in another account, it's still a good idea to check the startup disk. That way you can rule that out.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your startup disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 15% free space.

Browsers very slow/stall- other internet ok

I am continuing to have problems with the internet on my imac i3-
(Safari 5.04, OSx.6.7, Firefox)
ISP is time warner wide band- connection either wireless or ethernet (I prefer ethernet- but have tried wireless just to see if it changed anything- it didn't)
The problem is when I use a browser- the pages will stall, or it will take forever to find a page- once it "catches" after 30sec or a minute- it will load very quickly. If I open a second window- both windows will fail (after a minute it will state that the server cannot be found- reloading will bring it up though)
This happens on Safari, Firefox, and Internet explorer 7 (when I am running parallels).
Itunes and Email work fast.
Time warner has been out and swapped the modem, checked the line and he showed me on his windows laptop that everything worked very well.
At the apple store- they erased some old settings and it was working much better through their connection. When I got home it works a little better- but still nowhere near as well as it did on my older core 2 duo imac. The Ipad and iphone run the web much faster.
Here is what I have done:
1.) deleted the system config files and re-set up the network using the assistant.
2.) reset safari and the modem several times (and restarted the computer)
3.) turned configure ipv6 off in the network settings
4.) Added some dns servers to my list (found on other posts)
5.) rebuilt disk permissions
I am wondering if there is something that needs to be changed under the network preferences- ethernet tab (configure/speed/duplex/mtu)
It was also suggested that I wipe everything and restore the system without importing the settings
Any ideas?

That means you installed some third-party system add-on that is interfering with your browsers. It would be something that installed into /Library or /System/Library/Extensions. I can't tell you what it was, you'll just have to search until you find it. Think back to anything you might have installed or changed around the time the problem started.

Form based authentication very slow

We are facing problem in form based login authentication. Any application having a form based authentication is taking too much time.
We are running SAP J2EE Server 6.40 with SP16.
The database and the J2EE server are in a single machine.
The basic authentication does not show up any problem.
The form based takes up too much amount of time but does go through.

Safari very slow on most sites real speed problems

Hi there
I run an iBook G4 with 768mb ram. OS is 10.4.11 with Safari 3.0.4. Everything is up to date with no updates available. I have tested my connection via speedtest (which is UK compatible) and adslguide.org. Both indicate download speeds of a minimum of 5.5Mb. I have tested and tested over the last week and nothing has indicated that these speeds are incorrect. I have even disabled all phone sockets throughout my property to ensure that maximum speeds are available at the master socket.
I have a d-link wireless router and d-link modem. The only other things which use the connection are a nintendo wii and a couple of DS's, however this is rare during apple time!
Everything had been fine, prior to moving house. The d-links were happily packed in a box and I used the mac at my parents (which was slightly slower due to their slower connection but fine).
I have everything up and running in the new place, and after many tests have ensured that all is well regarding connection speeds. However safari is really crunchingly slow. Despite the speedtest, youtube is working very slowly and even cached pages load over a long period of time. The blue bar on many sites visited will only go over three-quarters of a given web address and it's driving me insane.
I've emptied the cache and reset safari on both users of the ibook, and run disk utility. It's not really improved things! Any other suggestions?

Not always a good plan. It would mean having to revert to OS 10.4.10.
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 uses Safari 3.0.4 which is not a beta. If Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard widgets etc also rely.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for Safari 3.0.4.

Very slow in some things!

I have had my new 2.8 MacbookPro for 5 weeks now and am very disapointed in it's performance, I complained the day after I got it but!!
I also have a 1 year old 2.4 MacBookPro so do have something to compare it against. I have done the bench mark tests and the 2,8 is faster but I am in the process of digitizing my DVD library and was hoping the 2.8 would out perform my 2.4 but no way. As an example I did the same movie on both machines the 2.4 completed the digitizing in 1hr 10mins the same movie on the 2.8 took 2 hrs 18mins!!! it also gets very hot I have seen it hit 85c when playing Warcraft.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Hmm... that's a significant difference. When you said you complained the day after you got it... was that when you performed the test? When you first set up your MacBook, Spotlight indexes the drive. This is quite drive intensive and can significantly impact something as drive intensive as ripping DVDs. Also... if you use TimeMachine... if a backup happens to start while you are ripping your DVDs, this too will have a significant impact (TimeMachine really needs to be updated in a number of ways).
Do you have a stock drive or did you install a new drive yourself? If you did install a new drive, have you installed all of the updates from Software Update... namely firmware 1.7?

Very slow downloading wen sites

My iMac is taking from 15 seconds to 3 minutes to download web sites. There are also agonizing freeezes in switching from page to page within a web site (for example, Washingtonpost, nytimes,Google, news.yahoo) that last from about 12 seconds to over 2 minutes. Have spokesn twice to Apple technicians who have run all tests possible, including trashing browsers and reinstalling, but without a change. My internet server has been doublechecking all connections and so far found no problem. All iMac utility checks and Techtool tests find no problem, but these long varying delays persist. Any suggestions, PLEASE. This all started about three weeks ago. Using OSX 10.4.8.

BDaqua is probably right on track asking for ISP, modem information.
This is suspiciously similar to the symptoms exhibited with certain cable modems. All tests are "good" from the ISP side...and it isn't really an Apple issue (it's a modem issue).
I'm going to guess that you're comcast, with a motorola modem.
We have seen dozens of questions and situations like yours out here...I even saw it in person on my mother's comcast setup at her home. (NYTimes, especially.)
Replaced the modem, problems went away.
