  • [SOLVED] Make Bash Completion Error (Command Not Found)

    When attempting to tab complete the `make` command, I am met with the following when I hit tab:
    $ make s[tab]bash: 23:set: command not found
    Strangely, if I continue hitting tab, it seems to work eventually, but with the same error popping up:
    $ make s[tab]bash: 23:set: command not found
    ched.[tab]bash: 23:set: command not found
    [tab]bash: 23:set: command not found
    sched.1.gz sched.tar.gz
    $ make sched.
    I've never seen anything like this.  I've tried reinstalling bash completion and make to no success.  The Makefile itself is fine and functional.  Other programs' bash completions seem to work just fine.  Help!
    Last edited by goakley (2014-03-23 13:56:50)

    It seems the problem no longer occurs.  The only change that seems to have happened is a bash-completion upgrade that happened yesterday.  I'm a bit disappointed to have not found the actual issue.

    Open Source installers DO NOT mess with individual user shell initialization scripts.  Open Source project may be installed on single user systems, or multi-user systems so to update every possible user's shell initialization files becomes a nightmare.   For example which accounts should be updated, and which are daemon accounts that should be left along.  Which shell does the user of each account prefer to use?  And for some shells, there are multiple different shell initialzation files, so which one does the shell initialzation file select.  And if the user already has a PATH environment variable in a shell initializaton file that gets executed AFTER the file the installer choose (.bash_profile vs .bashrc), then all the installers work would be for nothing, and worse confuse the user. And the user already has the directory in PATH, but they are not logged in, does the installer parse all the other user's shell initialzation files to figure out if that user does not need an update PATH, or does it blindly add yet another export PATH to one of the shell initialization files?
    Open Source installers worry about the getting the app built and installed.  It leaves the user's personal files alone, for very good reasons :-)

  • QSH command not found

    We Noticed the a problem on our v5R4 iseries after an IPL this weekend
    in both our development system and production system.
    If I try to start JSPM via:
    QSH CMD('/usr/sap/rp1/DVEBMGS00/j2ee/JSPM/go')  get an error
    go command not found.
    If I try to start the SDM via
    ./StartServer.sh ;   get the same error command not found
    I can do a java -version  with qsh and get a result  java
    version "1.4.2";
    Tried using the go from 885063 and sidadm is the owner
    Does anyone have any idea's how to resolve this issue or other test to
    run.
    qsh: 001-0014 Command /usr/sap/rp1/DVEBMGS00/j2ee/JSPM/go not found.
    Press ENTER to end terminal session.
    Regards,
    Brian

    Hi Brian,
    ideas for debugging that issue: put an "echo test" into the first line of the go script. If you then see the echo output you'll know that at least the script was executed. Then one would have to debug into the script. If not even the echo is done, it is maybe a good idea to check the authorities along the path to the go script. You can do that by creating a little test script (with the same authorities as go) which just echoes something and try to place it in the directories further up the path.
    IF nothing helps you might want to consider opening a ticket at SAP?

  • Receiving command not found after modifying .bash_profile in OEL 5.6 64 bits

    Hi guys,
    After the installation of Oracle Database 11gR2 on OEL 5.6, I added the following entries into the .bash_profile of the oracle user:
    # Oracle Settings
    TMP=/tmp; export TMP
    TMPDIR=$TMP; export TMPDIR

    ORACLE_UNQNAME=DB11G; export ORACLE_UNQNAME
    ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle; export ORACLE_BASE

    CLASSPATH=$ORACLE_HOME/jlib:$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/jlib; export CLASSPATH
    # I added my own values relative to my environment.
    But now, when I tried to login as the oracle user on my terminal, I received the following error:
    command not found
    command not found
    So I deleted all the entries I added to the .bash_profile file. But it didn't solve the problem. When I log in as oracle, I still receive the error:

    This is really weird. How can I do to solve this error?
    Thanks in advance

    Check /var/abs/extra/eclipse/eclipse.install. Typo in post_remove: post-install should be post_install. You can run the post_install manually (and maybe report this in the bug tracker), but it just updates the gtk icon cache, so it's nothing to worry about.

    I opened the contents of the application and run the shell script for opening aplication there it worked very fine and application started working.. But if i open application directly through launchpad or finder it doesnt show up and console
    I tried running those commands in the terminal directly there they work.. But dunno whats wrong in here. and even if try to open the application through the terminal it all opens fine.. what could be the possible problem, is it with my mac..?

    i finally figured out the problem.. it is with the environmental variables.  the path for all those commands like "grep" is not being set for the GUI applications.  that is why i got that error.
    for those GUI applications which require path, we have to set path in the file /etc/launchd.conf  the environmental variables set in here are used by the gui applications and those which are launched through spotlight.
    that file may bot be present in most of the macs. No problem even if not present,we can create one and use.
    so  type in terminal
              $ sudo vi /etc/launchd.conf
    and in the editor add these lines
              setenv PATH = /new/path
    and save.  Note: replace /new/path with the path which you need to have for the commands used in the script.
    remeber that you need to restart your mac for applications to use these environmental variables.

    If you get an error that the patch package is not found, install base-devel.

    Hi!
    After 6 hours of experimenting, disconnecting devices, formatting my hard drive (joy!) and getting nowhere, I found the problem: apparently, Leopard has trouble dealing with some characters in the volume name (in my case it was '). Rename the volume to something simple, short and with no weird characters and the Leopard will install.
    And, to Apple: I'm very disappointed with the quality of the Leopard install. If a character is valid in OS X, the setup should support it!
    Best regards,

    or
    $ locate | grep abc
    However, I don't think I've gotten the error if I type the same commands as above, but without the space between '|' and 'grep'.  And, although the error is frequent, it doesn't happen every time; it is seemingly random.
    Anybody else experiencing this?  Any idea what might be causing it?
    I'm using rxvt-unicode as my terminal.
