  • Version `GLIBC_2.12' not found

I recently installed arch for the 1st time with Apache, PHP and MySQL.
When I try to install postfix, already in the 1st phase, I get an error. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Below is what I get. Apparently GLIBC_2.12 is not installed. How do I resolve this issue?

  • [SOLVED] Upgrading after four month (version `GLIBC_2.16' not found)

    Hi all!
After some time I decide to upgrade and starting with read the manual at the site.
    Firstly, I run
    pacman -Syu --ignore glibc,curl
    this exit successfully
    Secondly,
    pacman -Su
    but this give me error
pacman: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.16' not found (required by /usr/lib/libarchive.so.12)
pacman always return this error, so I don't install glibc manually
    help me, pls
    i tried to untar glibc-2.16.0-4
    tar -xvf glibc-2.16.0-4-i686.pkg.tar.xz -C /
    it exit with
tar: lib: Cannot create symlink to `usr/lib': File exists
tar: lib64: Cannot create symlink to `usr/lib': File exists
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
ok, glibc untared(symlinks created with my hands in ramfs mode), but nothing happens (only kdm not start, but startx works) and error while i'm trying to use pacman is same

  • [solved] libc.so.6 version GLIBC_2.16 not found

i have tried to upgrade arch today, and i am getting too deep,
    im stilll getting error message
pacman: /lib/libc.so.6 version GLIBC_2.16 not found (required by /usr/lib/libcurl.so.4)
i followed the instructions here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … iki:usrlib and am not getting anywhere. i am following the instructions here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1144268 and im also not getting anywhere with this.
i did untar the package curl-7.26.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz from cache and tried to overwrite teh curl libs in /usr/lib and im still getting this error.  previously i ignored the unresolvable dependencies which i now feel is a mistake, the list is quite long, heres an example
    warning: ignoring package glibc-2.16.0-2
warning: cannot resolve "glibc>=2.16", a dependency of "gcc-libs"
:: The following packages cannot be upgraded due to unresolvable dependencies:
    binutils gcc gcc-libs
Do you want to skip the above packages for this upgrade [y/N]
and the actual ones i ignored that i still have to upgrade because they have been ignored are as follows
pacman -Sd binutils dbus dbus-core gcc gcc-libs ghostscript glib2 glibmm gnutls grep gtk2 icu initscripts libcups libgl linux mesa mkinitcpio pcre php php-apache php-gd php-mcrypt php-pear phpmyadmin samba systemd-tools
im going to stop here until i get some assistance if possible before i break anything.  i do have my original curl libs backed up to /tmp/pacman_build/usr directory
    where to go from here?

  • Libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.16' not found

    Hey everyone,
I haven't used my Arch system for some months now, thus I had to go through the updating marathon with all these issues.
I've read threads on the forums, guides and asked google for help. I think that I'm close to the finish line. But now I get this error message when using pacman:
pacman: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.16' not found (required by /lib/libarchive.so.12)
    I probably messed something up.
In this thread someone had a similar problem and was able to solve it, but he had to struggle with "libcurl.so.4" instead of "libarchive.so.12". So his "workaround" for the curl package is to no avail for me. How can I find out what package is affected by "libarchive.so.12"? And can I use a similar workaround?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've installed Arch on a Raid0. When I try to enable the raid ("dmraid -ay") with the live cd, I get:
    [...]stripe:Couldn't parse stripe destination
RAID set "isw_..._Volume0" was not detected
ERROR: device "isw_..._Volume0" could not be found'
    Can't fix it.
Is there any way that I can use pacstrap from an existing Ubuntu install? I could enable my raid with Ubuntu and then use pacstrap to fix my arch install, couldn't I?

    Hi Srikant
You can use FM: CONVERSION_EXIT_SDATE_OUTPUT to acheive the date formatting.
      use sample code:
    data: l_date like sy-datum,
          l_output(20) type c.
    l_date = sy-datum.
    CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERSION_EXIT_SDATE_OUTPUT'

Ther is compatibility problem that happend with broken binaries
errno shouldn't show up with binary or library compiled against glibc 2.1+
You can use LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 (or 2.2.5) in the broken apps env
    to work around this.

LINUX: Quick Start Guide - 9.2.0 RDBMS Installation
Quick Start Guide Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0) RDBMS Installation Linux Operating System PURPOSE ======= This document is designed to be a quick reference that can be used when installing Oracle 9.2.0 on the Linux platform. It is NOT designed to take the place of the Installation Guide. It is recommended that users READ the installation guide. Instructions to locate that document are contained in Appendix A. A familiarity with the Linux Operating System is assumed. If Installation guide information is needed, please see the Appendix A at the bottom of this document for additional resources. Each step should be done in the order that it is listed. These steps are the bare minimum that is necessary for a typical install of the Oracle9i RDBMS. Verification of Version Certification: ====================================== Currently, Oracle 9.2.0 is certified ONLY on the following Intel Based Server Linux distributions: - Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 - Suse SLES7, SLES8 - United Linux 1.0 For the latest certification and other related information, use the "Certify & Availability" link in Metalink. Installations on distributions and versions not listed in the Certify link is not supported. Pre-requisite Requirements for System Administrator: ==================================================== The following steps are required to verify your operating system meets minimum requirements for installation, and should be performed by the root user. For assistance with system administration issues, please contact your system administrator or operating system vendor. Use these steps to manually check the operating system requirements before attempting to install Oracle RDBMS software, or you may choose to use the convenient "Unix InstallPrep script" which automates these checks for you. For more information about the script, including download information, please review the following article: Note:189256.1 UNIX: Script to Verify Installation Requirements for Oracle 9.x version of RDBMS Users must have /bin/utils installed for the operating system. This is part of the developers option on RedHat Advanced Server 2.1. The Following Steps Need to be Performed by the Root User: 1. Configure System Resources: Ensure that the system has at least the following resources: ? 400 MB in /tmp * ? 512 MB of Physical Memory (RAM) ? Three times the amount of Physical Memory for Swap space (unless the system exceeds 1 GB of Physical Memory, where two times the amount of Physical Memory for Swap space is sufficient) * You may also redirect /tmp by setting the TEMP environment variable. This is only recommended in rare circumstances where /tmp cannot be expanded to meet free space requirements. 2. Create a Software Owner and Group: Create a Unix user and group that will own the Oracle software. (Typically user = oracle, group = dba) You may use a GUI tool for this if your distirbution provides one, or the 'useradd' and 'groupadd' command line utilities. Please make sure the user and group you use are defined in the local /etc/passwd and /etc/group files rather than resolved via a network service such as NIS. 3. Create a Software Mount Point and DataFile Mount Points: Create a mount point for the Oracle software installation (at least 2.5 GB, typically /u01) Create a second, third and fourth mount point for the database files, control files, and log files to be created (typically /u02, /u03, /u04). ? The oracle user should own these mount points and all of the directories below the mount point. 4. Test the Permissions: Ensure that the oracle user can write to the new mount points ? As a test, change directories to each of the new mount point directories as the oracle user and create a file or directory. Example: % touch /u01/test 5. Configure Kernel Resources: The following kernel parameters related to shared memory and semaphores will require tuning:      SHMMAX = 2147483648      SHMMIN = 1      SHMMNI = 100      SEMMNS = 1000      SEMMSL = 250      SEMMNI = 100      SEMOPM = 100 6.On Linux kernel parameters can be set dynamically or can be written in a shell script to be set at boot time. Kernel parameters should be set as the root user. They are set as follows 1.     cd /proc/sys/kernel 2.     Modify the parameter values by using the following command syntax: a.     # echo 100 32000 100 100 > sem           This sets SEMMSL, SEMMNS, SEMOPM, SEMMNI b.     # echo 2147483648 > shmmax c.     # echo 1 > shmmin d.     # echo 100 > shmmni ================================================================================ These changes are NOT persistent and must be re-set after each re-boot. On RedHat Advanced Server 2.1, these parameters can be entered into the file /etc/sysctl.conf. This parameters in this file are set each time the system is booted. Example:      $ more /etc/sysctl.conf      # Disables packet forwarding      net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0      # Enables source route verification      net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter = 1      # Disables the magic-sysrq key      kernel.sysrq = 0      kernel.shmmax=256000000      kernel.shmmin=1      kernel.shmmni=100      kernel.sem= 250 32000 32 128 7. Mount CD-ROM: Depending on your Linux distribution the cdrom device is typically either "/cdrom" or "/mnt/cdrom". Please substitute the appropriate value when "<cdrom>" appears in the examples. # mount <cdrom> Installs can be done from either the CD or by copying the contents of each CD?s to a stage area on the local disk (/stage/Disk1, /stage/Disk2, /stage/DiskN) 8.This is required to run as root: /tmp/orainstRoot.sh First question of oracle installation. If no other versions of Oracle 8i or 9i have been installed before. You will be ask to run /tmp/orainstRoot.sh to create the oraInventory location pointer. Usually found in /etc on Linux Files that are located in /etc are /etc/oratab and /etc/oraInst.loc Installation Steps for the Oracle User ======================================= The Following Steps need to be performed by the Oracle User: This can be done from either a Telnet or an SSH connection. It is NOT recommended to perform installations from a su ? oracle connection. 1. Set Environment Variables Environment variables should be set in the login script for the oracle user. If the oracle user's default shell is the C-shell (/usr/bin/csh), then the login script will be named ".login". If the oracle user's default shell is the Bourne-shell (/usr/bin/bsh) or the Korn-shell (/usr/bin/sh or /usr/bin/ksh), then the login script will be named ".profile". In either case, the login script will be located in the oracle user's home directory ($HOME). The examples below assume that your software mount point is /u01. Parameter Value ----------- ------ ORACLE_HOME /u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0 ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle PATH /u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin: /usr/ccs/bin:/usr/bin/X11/:/usr/local/bin and any other items you require in                     your PATH      ORA_NLS33          $ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data ORACLE_SID Set this to what you will call your database instance. (4 - 8 characters in length)      If you are not on the console, you may need to set the following DISPLAY <ip-address>:0.0 (review Note:153960.1 for detailed information) ENSURE THAT CLASS_PATH IS NOT SET IN THE ENVIRONMENT 2. Set the umask: Set the oracle user's umask to "022" in you ".profile" or ".login" file. Example: umask 022 3. Verify the Environment Log off and log on as the oracle user to ensure all environment variables are set correctly. Use the following command to view them: % env | more Before attempting to run the Oracle Universal Installer, verify that you can successfully run the following command: % /usr/bin/X11/xclock If this does not display a clock on your display screen, please review the following article: Note:153960.1 FAQ: X Server testing and troubleshooting 4. Start the Oracle Universal Installer and install the RDBMS software: Use the following commands to start the installer: % cd /tmp % /cdrom/runInstaller Or cd to /stage/Disk1 and run ./runInstaller Respond to the installer prompts as shown below: ? When prompted for whether orainstRoot.sh has been run by root, enter "y". This should have been done in Pre-Installation step 8 above. ? At the "Welcome Screen", click Next. ? If prompted, enter the directory to use for the "Inventory Location". This can be any directory, but is usually not under ORACLE_HOME because the oraInventory is shared with all Oracle products on the system. ? If prompted, enter the "UNIX Group Name" for the oracle user (dba). ? At the "File Locations Screen", verify the Destination listed is your ORACLE_HOME directory. Also enter a NAME to identify this ORACLE_HOME. The NAME can be anything, but is typically "DataServer" and the first three digits of the version. For example: "DataServer920" ? At the "Available Products Screen", choose Oracle9i Database, then click Next. ? At the "Installation Types Screen", choose Enterprise Edition, then click Next. ? If prompted, click Next at the "Component Locations Screen" to accept the default directories. ? At the "Database Configuration Screen", choose the the configuration based on how you plan to use the database, then click Next. ? If prompted, click Next at the "Privileged Operating System Groups Screen" to accept the default values (your current OS primary group). ? If prompted, enter the Global Database Name in the format "ORACLE_SID.hostname" at the "Database Identification Screen". For example: "TEST.LNXhost". The SID entry should be filled in with the value of ORACLE_SID. Click Next. ? If prompted, enter the directory where you would like to put datafiles at the "Database File Location Screen". Click Next. ? If prompted, select "Use the default character set" (WE8ISO8859P1) at the "Database Character Set Screen". Click Next. ? At the "Summary Screen", review your choices, then click Install. The install will begin. Follow instructions regarding running "root.sh" and any other prompts. When completed, the install will have created a default database, configured a Listener, and started both for you. Whats wrong?

    Hi,
Follow the Steps below as I managed to configure and Install it with the help of these steps
    1. Things you need before the installation
Before you start installing Oracle, you need to have the following packages:
jdk-1.1.8_v3 - Blackdown Linux port of Sun's Java Development Kit
You can find it at www.blackdown.org
Red Hat Linux 6.2 compatibility packages
    compat-libstdc++-6.2-2.9.0.16
    compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2
    compat-libs-6.2-3
    compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.16
You can find these packages on your RedHat CDs, download them from RedHat site, or from some mirror site.
         glibc-2.1.3-stubs Patch from Oracle.
    2. Pre-install actions
    2.1 Installing compatibility packages
Install all of the RedHat 6.2 compatibility packages mentioned above by issuing rpm -Uvh package_name, e.g:
    # rpm -Uvh /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS/compat-libs-6.2-3.i386.rpm
    2.2 Installing Java development kit
According to jdk documentation, we will install it under /usr/local by issuing e.g.
    # tar -xvjf jdk-1.1.8_v3.tar.bz2 -C /usr/local
Note that it is not necessary to add path to the java executables in PATH environment variable, so you can safely keep whatever jdk or jre version you already have.
2.3 User oracle, groups and software mount points
We need to create two groups, oinstall and dba.
The oinstall group will own all the installation files, so user oracle should have the oinstall group as its initial group. We also need one more group, dba, that will have oracle's SYSDBA and SYSOPER privileges granted. User oracle should have the dba group as its supplementary group. Note that all linux users (accounts) that are in group dba will also get these privileges.
    # groupadd oinstall
    # groupadd dba
    # useradd -g oinstall -G dba oracle
    # passwd oracle
Create directories in which database files will reside. Oracle recommends OFA - Optimal Flexible Architecture (see oracle installation guide), but in this example everything will be installed under /home/oracle:
    # mkdir /home/oracle/product
    # cd /home/oracle/product
    # mkdir 8.1.7
    # chown -R oracle.oinstall /home/oracle/*
2.4 Setting the environment for oracle account
We should now login as user oracle and put the following lines at the end of .bash_profile:
    export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5
    source /usr/i386-glibc21-linux/bin/i386-glibc21-linux-env.sh
    export ORACLE_BASE=/home/oracle
    export ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/8.1.7
    export ORA_NLS33=$ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data
    export PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin
    unset LANG
First two lines modify your environment so that gcc and ld look for glibc 2.1.3 compatibility headers and libraries.
The unset LANG line is there because if LANG is set, java is known to generate JNLS Exceptions.
Listing of valid Oracle NLS Data parameters including supported languages, territories and storage character sets can be found here.
The .bash_profile should now be executed in order to initialize these variables:
    $ source /home/oracle/.bash_profile
or we can just log off and than back on as user oracle.
If you use some shell other than bash (tcsh, sh, ...) all of those variables should be set according to syntax of your shell and put in script that automatically executes at user login.
