I have a program that needs to display PDF files.
What are the licence implications if I make Adobe Reader a pre-requisite for the program, and use the Adobe ActiveX component to display PDF files?

When you say that I cannot install Adobe Reader for them, what do you mean? The user must install their own software, so it is they that agree to the terms?
The installation of my program can surely kick off the installation of Adobe Reader for them?

Adobe Reader never converted Publisher files to PDF, for free, never. I suspect you use to have the (paid for) Adobe Acrobat. Sometimes people have Acrobat (more than $300 worth) and install Adobe Reader over the top, losing that valuable software.
That said, if you subscribed to PDF Pack it should do this conversion. What exactly happens now.

How do I use a protected document in Adobe Reader?

I am trying to use a document that requires a user name and password in Adobe Reader on my tablet. The problem is that I have tried everything and nothing I do will allow me to enter this information. It says editing is not allowed with this protected document, but it is set up to allow editing so I can put in the info required to unlock the contents. I have attempted to search your database and all the answers I have tried have not worked. Please help! I am at a loss and I need this document unlocked. Thank you!

Adobe Reader mobile products (Reader for iOS, Reader for Android, etc.) do not support commenting or form filling with secured (hence, encrypted) PDF documents.
Please use the desktop version of Adobe Reader on your Windows or Mac computer to fill in the secured PDF form. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Using activex component in openGL app: mouse event issues.....

i'm trying to get the Flash ActiveX control to work in an
OpenGL app. so far i've managed to get the bitmap data and map it
to a texture succesfully. but i'm having problems getting the mouse
interaction to work.
i get an hWnd from IShockWaveFlash's IOleWindow. when i send
mouse messages to it, the mouse is interpreted correctly by
actionscript (for example, i have a custom mouse cursor tracking
_xmouse, _ymouse which works fine).
however, buttons do not behave correctly. rollover is
erratic, and only in rare circumstances can i get a button's
onPress handler to fire.
am i sending the mouse events in correctly? any ideas of any
other way to send them in?

Cannot extract the embedded font - Adobe Reader XI

Hello,
I have an XPS file converted to a PDF with an embedded font inside, when I open the file, as I scroll to a page having '&' in the text (that's my case, but it's probably the same with any special character), a message box shows up saying "Cannot extract the embedded font 'HDGSLM+[my font]'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." and I can't see the special character in the page.
I checked that my font was actually embedded in the PDF (File -> Properties -> Fonts) and seems to be ok, normal characters look fine and the application doesn't say anything until I scroll to the page with '&' inside. Also, other PDF readers show the document fine.
I looked around the forum and saw that other people got the same problem and to them was a bug introduced in Adobe Reader 8.x, but nothing was confirmed by developers.
Can you help me? Is it a bug? If yes, is Adobe working on it?

Reader can not create PDF files, so you should look for bugs in the software that was used to generate it.

How to use mailForm methode (javascript) in adobe reader 9.3?

Hi! I want to know if it exist a way to use the mailForm method (this is javascript) in adobe reader 9.3?
Or, are there any equivalent method? I want to send by email a FDF with my PDF.
When I run my javascript, I got the following error: "NotAllowedError: Security settings prevent access to this property or method.
Doc.mailForm:55:Field FI_ENVOYER:Mouse Up ".
(Here, FI_ENVOYER is the name of my button).

Is "Creating pages models" or "Assemble the document" can prevent the use of the mailForm method?
I know that the mailForm requires privileges, but how can I allow these two rights who are unhauthorized?
Is there something else I can do to be able to use the method "mailForm" without having the "NotAllowedError"?

Using the JavaScript Debugger with Adobe Reader X (10.1.0) ?

Hello all,
Quite new to JavaScript in Acrobat I am trying to write a 4 page Form with CenoPDF and check/debug it with Adobe Reader X (10.1.0) on a Windows 7 (32bit, usually no Admin rights) PC. I realise Acrobat Professional would be a more appropriate tool, but for the moment I hope to get away with Reader.
Following this instruction I managed to get the Javascript Debugger running with Reader X, but there is a serious issue:
The Debugger window often crashes - and with it the whole Reader - after clicking around on a few controls (triangles in the Scripts window or others). First the font changes, then letters disappear, controls disappear and soon after the whole user interface freezes (see the two screenshots below).
Questions:
Do others also have problems with crashing Debuggers?
Is there a known solution or work around to this problem?

I am having the same problem. Win 7 or Win XP doesn't matter the problems seems to be with Adobe 10.1.0. Works ok with Word, but not adobe reader. Doesn't un-collate if the box is checked. Tried to unchecked then recheck. Use to work but now it doesn't.

HT2506 Questions about Preview Using in Safari after Installing Adobe Reader

I wonder how could I reuse Preview to open PDFs on Safari, after I installed the **** stupid Adobe Reader. Now I can't read and download online PDFs just because I got the Adobe Reader, even if I uninstalled the Adobe reader. What should I do?!!!!

I've been having this same problem with saving pdf files File - Save As from the top Toolbar on my laptop.
I would constantly get messages - There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.
I also downloaded the lateset version of Adobe Reader XI
But at last I have managed to find a simple way to access pdf files from the internet.
Firstly, without downloading the pdf, I printed the pdf file direct from the Safari page by using the Print icon on the grey lozenge that appears centrally three quarters down the screen.
Then I discovered that if I save the pdf using the Save icon from this same grey lozenge on the Safari page I can open and print this pdf version from my desktop.
I've tested it with a couple of different pdf files and these methods work using the grey lozenge icons but the same pdfs files don't work using File - Save As on the Tool Bar.

Using a Signature Pad in Adobe Reader Ubuntu Linux??

We are wanting to move away from Window and us Ubuntu Linux on our field computers. The only problem is we have a signature pad and we need that to work in Adobe Reader. We are using a Topaz signature pad. I have been in contact with the company and they have been very helpful. They have a driver for the signature pad in linux but they do not have a plugin for Adobe Reader. Does anyone know a signature pad that will work in Adobe Reader? Does anyone know if there is a plugin for Adobe Reader that may be used to work with the current signature pad we have. Topaz said they can help me get set up to the point of going into Reader but then we would have to go the rest of the way. Does anyone have any advice?

OLE object error when using with Access 2003 and Adobe Reader X

I link to .pdf files in Access 2003 and since upgrading to Adobe Reader X yesterday, am unable to link to these files. I receive an error stating "A problem occurred while accessing the OLE object". It goes on to tell me to verify that the file is where I say it is and that it is accessible, which it is. I can go to that file in Adobe Reader and open it.

I have since added additional fields and customized the form, but now I am unable to utilize the dictation feature on my iphone to fill in the fields.... HELP!

Error 1935 - Adobe Reader (11) - An error occurred during the installation of assembly component - Windows 7

It seems to be a problem with my windows installation. I will re-install at a later date since installing PDF viewing programs the only issue.
Problem:
While installing Adobe Reader XI using the install_reader11_en_mssd_aaa_aih.exe from Adobe Reader Install for all versions and AdbeRdr11000_en_US.msi from a forum post on here. Error 1935 occurs using both installers and causes the setup to fail and initiate rollback.
Additional information:
In Programs & Features list there is no adobe reader as you can see:
This is pretty much a clean install of windows on which I have installed: Adobe Flash Player (16), Steam + some games, Chrome, Skype and some Visual C++ Redistributables, .NET Framwork, Drivers for GPU, CPU, Motherboard and USB devices.

Steps taken:
1. I have cleared the transaction log using command prompt with the following command:

Restarting the computer and trying to install Adobe Reader 11 results in the same error.
2. Restarting the computer, disabling Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and installing Adobe Reader 11 results in the same error.
3. Chrome has "allow all sites to run JavaScript" checked.

Downloading Adobe Reader from distribution licence link - 404 page not found

I have recently applied for the Adobe distribution licence for Adobe Reader. This was successful, shortly after applying I received an email with the licence attached and a download link for Adobe Reader XI, The problem is the link doesn't work I just get 404 page not found, the link I cannot put on here as the licence will be broken.

If I use adobe reader 7.0 to open LiveCycle Designer ES2, what will happen?

I am planning to recommend adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2 as a forms designer software to a corporate client. But it seems that the client is still using the old version of adobe reader 7.0.
So I need to know that is it essential to use adobe reader 9.0 for designer ES2, and if by adobe reader 7.0, what problem would be happen?

Hi,
When you design a form in LC Designer ES2 you can set the target version of Acrobat/Reader in the File > Form Properties > Defaults tab.
While you can target v7, you need to be aware that some of the functionality in LC Designer ES2 is not supported in Reader v7. For example in LC Designer you can set the presence of an object to 'visible (screen only)', but this is not supported in Reader v7, so would cause a problem. So for each form you would need to set the target version and then check the Warnings palette to see if there are any problems.

You can see there are alot of changes around v7 and that if the user has Reader v7.0.7, then you can utilise the features in XFA Specification 2.4.
The other issue to be aware of is that users with Reader will NOT be able to save data in the form UNLESS the form has been Reader Enabled before the form is deployed.
The form can be Reader Enabled in two ways:
Using Acrobat Standard v9 or Acrobat Professional v7 or v8. Has licence restrictions, see EULA.
Using a server produce called Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2. Additional costs.
