License costs?... R Enterprise (but no Oracle Advanced Analytics)

We use R and R Studio, and understandably, it doesn't handle large data sets very well.
As R is open source and free, I was wondering if Oracle R Enterprise was also free, however, I see this article in PC World (http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/249509/oracle_stakes_claim_in_r_with_advanced_analytics_launch.html) which seems to indicate it isn't.
Is someone able to confirm the pricing on this? We haven't (and don't want) the Oracle Advanced Analytics (with Data Mining, Hadoop, etc) software. We are just looking to move to R Enterprise. Is this possible (without cost?)

R is an open-source software environment for statistical computing and graphics that can be downloaded for free from CRAN: http://cran.r-project.org. Oracle R Enterprise and Oracle Data Mining comprise the Oracle Advanced Analytics option for Oracle Database 11g R2. The price for this option is $23,000 per CPU.
The pricing for Oracle R Connector for Hadoop, bundled with the Big Data Connectors, is $2000 per CPU.
The Oracle R Distribution: http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/EnterpriseLinux/EL5/addons/x86_64/ is offered as a free download from Oracle, and is supported for Oracle Big Data Appliance and Oracle R Enterprise customers.

  • Oracle Advanced Analytics database

    Hi All,
I have a requirement to create Oracle Advanced Analytics database. So please clear out some doubts of mine..
Is there seperate binary for Oracle Advanced Analytics database or is it the same 11g R2 database?
Do i just need to create enterprise edition database and configure it for Oracle Advanced Analytics? If yes what are the configuration settings.
What is a R user and how it is different from Normal database users?
    Thanks,
    Arun

    Thanks Aman..
Here is what i am gonna do..
    1. Create 11g R2 Enterprise edition database.
    2. Create data mining user
    3. Create repository for the datamining as per the below link.
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/11g/r2/prod/bidw/datamining/ODM11gR2-SetUp.htm
I am not sure how far i am doing it right.. Would appreciate if someone could validate it.

  • Oracle License Costs vs Oracle Support Agreements

Our premier technical support agreement recently expired. Since we are running old versions of Oracle products (as we are migrating to another database vendor), the Oracle rep is trying to sell us another tech support agreement (sustaining or extended support).
If we do not plan to upgrade the Oracle products and absolutely do not need Oracle tech support, are we required to pay for a tech support agreement as a way of continuing to "pay" for the Oracle licenses? Are license costs bundled with costs of tech support plans?
I"m sure I can ask the Oracle rep about this. I'm just doing some checking before I talk to him.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

If we do not plan to upgrade the Oracle products and
absolutely do not need Oracle tech support, are we
required to pay for a tech support agreement as a way
of continuing to "pay" for the Oracle licenses? Are
license costs bundled with costs of tech support
plans?(Note - I do not speak for Oracle. This is MY interpretation of MY license agreement, which may be different from yours.)
If you have a perpetual license, you are not required to pay for support if you are never going to use support.
Realize, however, that using support, includes getting patches and upgrades.
Basically the perpetual license gives me Oracle at a specific version. While it is in force, Support gives me permission to change that version - at any level of the version digits.
Best you read http://www.oracle.com/support/index.html to make an intelligent decision.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler: free of licensing costs like SQL Developer?

    Sue and SQL Developer Team,
At what release did Data Modeler become free? And by "free" does this mean free for development only? Or free of cost for any and all production use? From what I recall, early releases of Data Modeler were "free" to download but required for-pay licensing to use.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/datamodeler/overview/index.html
"SQL Developer Data Modeler is a free data modeling and design tool..."
If there is a license fee for Data Modeler, then the above statement would be as misleading as one like the following:
"Oracle Enterprise 11g is a free database..."
Free to download, yes. Not free for production usage.

Evidently the answer is "yes" this time. Free as in free of licensing costs:

  • Licensing Cost for Owb11g

    Hi
Could anyone help me to find licensing Cost for Owb11g R2.
    Regards
    Anurag S

    Hi Anurag ,
OWB 11gR2 comes along with the database 11gR2 .
You can use the "Core ETL” functionality but Data Profiling, Enterprise ETL, etc requires a separate license .
Probably you cant get in touch with Oracle Sales to know more about the license cost .

  • Oracle Advance Que

Is it possible to store the .DAT and .XML file I am generating through ODI interface in Oracle Advance Que?? If yes please let me know......how??
    Thanks

The con, generally, is going to be the cost. Advanced Security is an extra cost option on top of the enterprise edition license.
As for the pros, there are a variety of features that are included as part of the Advanced Security option. You can encrypt traffic between the database and client machines, you can implement Transparent Data Encryption in the database, you can leverage strong external authentication mechanisms (things like kerberos), etc. What particular component(s) of Advanced Security are you looking at?

  • New Enterprise Manager Book on Advanced EM Techniques for the Real World

    Dear Friends,
I am pleased to say my first EM book can be ordered now.
Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control: Advanced Techniques for the Real World
    [http://www.rampant-books.com/book_1001_advanced_techniques_oem_grid_control.htm]
Please let your colleagues and friends and clients know – it is the first book in the world to include EM 11g Grid Control. It is a great way for people to understand the capabilities of EM.
Oracle’s Enterprise Manager Grid Control is recognized as the IT Industry’s leading Oracle database administration and management tool. It is unrivalled in its ability to monitor, manage, maintain and report on entire enterprise grids that comprise hundreds (if not thousands) of Oracle databases and servers following an approach that is consistent and repeatable.
However, Enterprise Manager Grid Control may seem daunting even to the most advanced Oracle Administrator. The problem is you know about the power of Enterprise Manager but how do you unleash that power amongst what initially appears to be a maze of GUI-based screens that feature a myriad of links to reports and management tasks that in turn lead you to even more reports and management tasks?
This book shows you how to unleash that power.
Based on the Author’s considerable and practical Oracle database and Enterprise Manager Grid Control experience you will learn through illustrated examples how to create and schedule RMAN backups, generate Data Guard Standbys, clone databases and Oracle Homes and patch databases across hundreds and thousands of databases. You will learn how you can unlock the power of the Enterprise Manager Grid Control Packs, PlugIns and Connectors to simplify your database administration across your company’s database network, as also the management and monitoring of important Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and the nuances of all important real-time change control using Enterprise Manager.
There are other books on the market that describe how to install and configure Enterprise Manager but until now they haven’t explained using a simple and illustrated approach how to get the most out of your Enterprise Manager. This book does just that.
Covers the NEW Enterprise Manager Grid Control 11g.

    Porus.

  • Propagation between queues in Oracle Advanced Queuing

We would like to connect two queues that reside in different database schemas/instances.
We try to use the propagation feature of Oracle to achieve this.
The queue-type is the same for both queues.
Enqueuing is done with a recipient list in order to set multiple local subscribers for the messages that are put onto the queue.
We would like to propagate between queues without changing the applications that write to originating queue and the other applications that read from the target queue.
During our research we only found ways where we need to change the application that writes onto the queue, which is not acceptable for us. Also the list of subscribers needs to be different based on the message.
Therefore I have the following question:
    - is there a way to set up propagation between queues in a way where we don't need to modify the sending application?
    - if not, is there a different way to connect two queues via a subscriber/consumer?

Oracle8i for Linux does have AQ, although I haven't evaluated it
yet. If you're still having trouble with the install, make sure
you get the patch. A quicker and easier way to get Oracle8i up
cheaply for evaluation is to download the NT version. I'm
evaluating Oracle8i for both Linux and NT and the NT version is
    more stable.
I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences with AQ
on Oracle8 (8.0.4.3). I have several projects that we have been
considering using AQ with. Please send me an email and tell me
what problems / work-arounds you found.

  • SAP GRC Access Control - Compliance Calibrator - License Cost

    Dear all,
I have some questions on Compliance Calibrator implementation.
    1. Do  we have to pay additional cost for the license to implement Compliance Calibrator?
    2. Since SAP GRC 5.3 is just released, which one do you recommend? SAP GRC 5.2 or 5.3?
    3. What would be the major difference between Compliance Calibrator in GRC 5.2 and 5.3?
    Best regards,
    Rolando

    Hi Rolando-
    1. Yes, there lies some license cost and the amount should not as much as taking SAP R/3 license. I am not sure of exact amount but its nominal as compared to other SAP products.
    2. SAP always recommend for the latest version available and why not one would go for latest version if you are paying something for that.
Also, it depends on your existing R/3 version and its compatibility. In short run, you can choose per your existing versions but in long run everyone has to move to latest version. Say for example whoever is using SAP R/3 technology with whatever version, they all need to upgrade to ECC6.0 by 2011 with extension upto 2013. I am not sure of any such information about GRC AC though.
    3. Some enhancement have been done with CC 5.3. Those features include-
    1. Risk analysis for SAP Enterprise Portal and UME
    2. BI integration for custom reporting
    3. Reporting enhancement features include additional auditor, business manager and IT reports
    4. SOD management by exception. Can be integrated with workflow.
    5. Import/Export of configuration data
    6. Migration scripts
    7. Download and print capability on every report.
    Some performance improvements-
    1. Concurrent risk analysis.
    2. batch mode risk analysis
    3. Improved memory mgmnt etc.
Hope it gives you now some more visibility.
    Cheers!

  • Web Services license cost

    Hi,
Can anyone tell if there is any license cost associated for the consumption of Siebel Web Services? If yes then how Oracle governs the license cost for this.
    Thanks,
    Rohit

    Hi Guru,
I would really appreciate if someone could help me with my problem.
Currently, I am doing an upgrade 7.8 to ver 8.1 after executed the UPGPHYS I compiled all project to be able to extract newest SRF.
When I tested this new SRF via thin client, I noticed that all screens have gone missing in the GUI. But when checking it in Tools they are all present, all objects are migrated successfully to the new version of Siebel which 8.1. However, I am wondering why all views from certain screen have been set to INACTIVE. I have tried to modify it by setting the object locked to mine and then change the inactive to active view. Unfortunately, I could not able to change it despite from being a locked object.
I tried to re-picked the missing screen from the Application (Obj Explorer) in Siebel Tools. Then I recompiled it hoping that this will be shown in the GUI, still not showing up.
And also when logging into the application the home page was not displaying, the error says SADMIN does not allow accessing view “FINS Home Page View.(SBL-DAT-00329)” . I tried to search in supportweb but I could not find any relating to this.
FYI: These views are available to SADMIN responsibility.
The only reason I can think of at this point could be the views associated to each of the migrated screen are set to INACTIVE. For some reason I don’t know as to how they became Inative after the upgrade.
Can I know if there’s someone has experienced this issue during your upgrade project? Please help me I really appreciate your inputs and thoughts.

  • Licensing costs 32bit vs 64bit

    Hi,
we are evaluating the pros and cons of designing a system based on 64bit vs. 32bit processors. Can anyone comment, based on their experience, is there a (substantial) difference in licensing costs for Oracle 10g depending on the processor type? Also, are there any other considerations to be taken into account between both versions of Oracle (Installation, stability of the product, etc)
    Thanks in advance!
    JP.

    [email protected] wrote:
    Hi,
the basic drawback of 64bits, it is more expensive in general terms (HW and possibly COTS products) than 32bit. We are not sure if the advantages are worth the effort, specially taking into cosideration that many of the applications we need to integrate in the system are COTS products which run on 32 bits. These apps wont be able to take full advantage of the 64bit architecture.
    Thanks
JP.You shouldn't be running the apps on the same box as the db anyway, and a 64-bit db will happily serve 32-bit clients.

  • Is UTL_COMPRESS a part of Oracle Advanced Compression?

    Hi,
I am planning to use UTL_COMPRESS for some need to compress an file. But heard it is a part of Oracle Advanced Compression and we don't have license for that and cannot be used.
Can any one have any idea whether it is a part of Ora Adv Compression or not?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pradeep.

Two different things? Oracle Advanced Compression http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/oracle11g/pdf/advanced-compression-whitepaper.pdf
And utl_compress - a package provides an API to allow compression and decompression of binary data (RAW, BLOB and BFILE).

  • Oracle Advanced Queues

    Hi,
I would like to know, how can I create Oracle Advanced Queues using Oracle 10g Enterprise Manager console/s.
    Thanks.

Hi! I'm not a dev, but I know for sure ODP.NET does not support AQ. You might wanna have a look at Oracle Object for OLE (OO4O). It supports AQ and can be used in both VB.NET and C# through COM Interop. Of course, the performances will not be as good as ODP.NET tho.
    Have a nice one.

  • PI license cost

    Hi guys,
I've found some information about the license cost here but they are relative old unfortunately. So can someone please confirm these information?
The PI comes with the ECC 6.0 (PI_Basis) so there are no license cost.
The license cost comes with the traffic transferes through the PI. But only the transfered data to or from non-SAP systems are cost relevant; transfered data from and to SAP systems are not cost relevant.
    Is this still correct?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sid

    Thank you for your reply.
I'm in the central european region.
Are there any other suggestions or confirmations?
And in my opening post there is an error. PI_BASIS is not related to Process Integration. PI stands for Plug In. So which Add-On is related to Process Íntegration?
    Thanks

  • OWB License Cost

    Hi All,
Can anybody let me now the license cost for OWB 11g R2 and 10G R2 other than in Build one.

    Hi Ankit
    OWB enterprise ETL is licensed under the Data Integrator Enterprise Edition option which can be found in the Oracle Technology price list;
    http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/price-lists/index.html
    There was a blog post from Antonio covering the licensing change back in 2009 below;
