License doc question - 11gR2 DB

Question about the licensing of the 11gR2 New Feature: Deferred Segment Creation and the 11gR2 Database Licensing doc at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/license.112/e10594/editions.htm#BABDJGGI
The feature is not explicitly excluded from Standard Edition, however it seems to be disabled from the Standard Edition.
Either the doc (inadvertently) misses mentioning the feature or the standard edition inadvertently has it turned off.
Clarification requested on behalf of Forum thread ORA-00439: feature not enabled: Deferred Segment Creation
Thanks

Hi,
We have updated the 11.2 Database Licensing Information guide (Part Number E10594-05) to state that Deferred Segment Creation is available
with EE only (not SE or SE1). This book will be posted to OTN in the next documentation library update.
Thanks!

  • How to deal with often ask doc questions in Oracle forums?

    All,
Lately the number of doc questions in the Database General forum and the SQL and PL/SQL forum seems to increase exponentially.
Also almost all posters never look up error messages in the on-line documentation, nor do they anything to resolve their own problem.
Need I to mention ORA-12154? Probably not.
While the Forums Etiquette post is clear you should be looking up, no one is actually doing that.
Also apparently no one reads the Forum Etiquette post.
The result of this is the Search Forum button has become fully useless and almost always turns up 1000s of non-relevant posts.
Which results in .... people asking that question again
I am quite aware the situation on http://asktom.oracle.com and many other sites is hardly better.
I am also aware Jives might be incapable of addressing this properly.
    But can't something be done?
Eg: Jives automatically consults the on-line documentation or automatically consults Google or even Wikipedia?
I try to avoid answering doc questions as much as possible, but that doesn't work.
If I could, I would kick the poster, as this kind of laziness really annoys me.
When I started my career the Internet didn't exist. The only things available were manuals and the phone to call support, and it wasn't outsourced to Asia.

  • Office 2013 Volume License Activation question

    Hello,
we have software assurance, so MAK and KMS are available for O2013.
I cannot use KMS server (there are reasons for now). So I have to use MAK. I know that it is possible later on to convert MAK to KMS.
I found topic about ADBA. But missing few points from the description after my 2 questions.
    1. Can I use KMS key for use with Volume Activation Tool without actually having KMS installed?
    2.  at the end it says just 180 days activation. What will happen then?
    From:
    http://searchenterprisedesktop.techtarget.com/tip/Using-Active-Directory-activation-and-other-new-Office-2013-tools
-------Prior to Office 2013, IT had to rely on Multiple Activation Key (MAK) or Key Management Service (KMS) activation. These processes were generally more complex than ADBA. Little has changed with either MAK or KMS in Office 2013. With ADBA, however,
    IT can easily
activate Office 2013 clients through their connections to the domain.
To implement ADBA, administrators must use the Volume Activation Tools utility, which walks them through the setup process. After admins supply the KMS host key, the setup process adds an activation object to the
Active Directory Domain Services. The activation object uses the same Generic Volume Licenses Key (GVLK) and KMS host pair as that for regular KMS activation. When the client joins the domain, the activation object automatically activates the Office installation,
granting a license to the client for 180 days. --------------

Q1) there is a KMShost product key, and there is a KMSclient product key.
The KMShost product key, you install this in your KMShost machine, and the client machines which have the KMSclient product key will contact your KMShost machine for activation.
Volume Licensed products are provided by MSFT with the KMSclient product key already installed. The KMSclient product keys are also publically available in the TechNet library documentation.
VAMT can be used, with or without KMS installed. VAMT is not part of KMS, and, KMS is not part of VAMT.
ADBA is not part of VAMT and VAMT is not part of ADBA.
ADBA can only be used if your AD is at the later version, and, ADBA only works for the latest products like Windows8 and Office2013.
If you have older AD or older products you will still need to have KMS or MAK.
Q2) after 180days, it's the same as KMS - the KMSclient (or ADBA client) will enter "non-genuine" mode if the client has not contacted ADBA object (or KMShost) to renew the activation status.
This wiki article I put together, includes a few helpful links about ADBA and KMS:

  • License key question with regards to upgrading from 7/8.1 to 10

Hi, I hope I've posted my question in the right area of the forum:
I understand that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for Win7/Win8 users.
That's really wonderful but I was wondering what the exact mechanism with regards to our 7/8 license keys. Here's a couple examples to clarify my question:
first, example: I have Windows 7 Pro license and say I upgrade to 10 within the first year. Let's say I need to reinstall Windows after that first year is finished will I still be able to use that same license key I used to upgrade 7 to 10 to install a fresh
copy of Windows 10 or will I need to purchase a new license because the year is elapsed?
Here's another scenario. I upgrade to Windows 10 from 7 and after trying Windows 10 for while, I decide to uninstall 10 and go back to 7... because I'm crazy like that.... Will I be able to use my original Key for Windows 7 or is the upgrade a one way road:
where the 7 key turns into a Windows 10 key and can no longer be used to activate Windows 7?
    Thanks for the feedback!

    Hi Momashi

If you Upgrade to Windows 10 and do not like it, for whatever reason.
Before you upgrade to Windows 10.
Create an image of windows 7 to an external HD and a recovery CD, using windows 7 Backup and Restore.
You can re-install windows 7 in the SAME SYSTEM using the recovery CD without using  a key.
    Hope it helps
Where did you get your outlandish information about a Windows 7 key turning into a Windows 10 key?  Nothing in the past has ever happened like this before, so what makes you think it will happen with Windows 10?
My Windows ME did not turn into a Windows XP key!
My Windows XP key did not turn into a Windows Vista key!
My Windows Vista key did not turn into a Windows 7 key!
    And so on!

  • Acrobat SDK License Agreement Question

The following is a section of the latest Acrobat SDK License Agreement from the Adobe website:
"3.2  Development Restrictions.  You agree that You will not Use the Software to create, develop or use any program, software or service which . . . (b) can both (i) communicate with Adobe Reader Products and (ii) modify or save a PDF (Portable Document Format) document (including saving any modifications to a separate file for such documents);"
Does this mean that I am NOT allowed to develop a program that both:
Interfaces with Adobe Reader/Acrobat via the Acrobat SDK for PDF viewing purposes and
Builds and modifies PDF's using third party component(s)?
If the answer to the previous question is "YES", that means I can only use the Acrobat SDK in a program that is limited to PDF viewing and printing as far as PDF issues are concerned.  That would be very restrictive for a real world application that involves PDF's, especially when I am supposed to "add significant and primary functionality" as the license aggreement also states.

How do I go about contacting "Adobe Legal"?
Also, just to clarify our discussion on some subtle but important points . . .
I understand that Adobe Reader is just that, a read-only application.  And, I understand that the Adobe solution for modifying PDF's is Adobe Acrobat.  I have components from 3rd parties that let me programatically modify PDF's.  So, from a strictly programming tools point of view, I don't need Acrobat to modify PDF's in my application.  The 3rd party components handle the PDF modification tasks.  I'm not trying to use the Acrobat SDK to modify PDF's, but rather only to view PDF's.
    So, when you say:
"You can NOT use Reader to view PDF documents as part of a software solution that also modifies the PDF using some other technology"
    Do you mean:
It is your understanding that using the Acrobat SDK for PDF viewing and 3rd party components for PDF modification in the same application constitutes a violation of the Acrobat SDK License Agreement?
    And when you say:
"Acrobat, however, does not have this limitation"
    Do you mean:
Adobe requires licensed Acrobat to be used for PDF modification in any application that uses Acrobat SDK for PDF viewing?  (In other words, PDF modification is where Adobe wants to make a profit.)
    Thanks for your input.

  • License requirements question

    All,
I have the following question (stranger question):
I just developed a SimpleMap class which is an equivalent of the HashMap from java.util, but very specialized with respect to some special uses cases I am dealing with.
There is no dependency between my class and java.util.HashMap, SimpleMap is standalone. But certain portions of the code DO use techniques found in HashMap.java source code, namely: bucket index computation and Entry chaining (linked list simulation). Looks like I inspired from the JDK sources
The question is: am I allowed to distribute this code? Do I need to include any reference to SUN along with the source code ? I did not have the time to browse license agreement stuff, unfortunately. However, if you guys can provide some links or even inline details they will be more than apreciated.
I assume that hash-tables are anyway some standard stuff, so I do not see the point in mentioning that indexing and entry chaining was done as in SUN classes. But if you know I MUST do this, please let me know.
    Thanks a lot,
    Cristian

Try using the following command to test the license installation.
    saplicense -test
If you still have problems, restart the server.

  • License (EULA) Questions - Photoshop Elements 11

The Photoshop Elements 11 EULA (Gen_WWCombined-en-us-20111219-1230-clean.pdf, page 3, sections 2.1.3 & 2.1.5) states that you "must purchase a separate license for use of the Software on each operating system platform" in a dual boot scenario. My scenario is not a dual boot one, but I do want to run the program on both my Dell Desktop PC (Win 7 Pro) and my Apple MacBook Pro Laptop (OS X 10.7.5). Does that mean I'll have to purchase two licenses as well? If so, is this enforced at the program installation/activation level, or just in the law? Also, why? If the license allows for two installations, why must they be on the same platform?

Thanks, Barbara! In just 3 sentences, you delivered a completely understandable description of the licensing, which I couldn't find in the EULA, on Adobe.com, or on the Web via Google. Quick unrelated follow-up question: That was my first post to Adobe.com and I notice my email address is not hidden. Where do I change that setting, so I'm not forever exposed in these forums? I've poked around but can't find it. Thanks again for your superquick response!

  • WINDOWS 7 64 BITS OEM LICENSE LANGUAGE QUESTION

    Hello to all,
My company have bought some HP desktops without any OS. This was because we have some OEM licenses for windows 7 professional 64 bits that we bought for a virtualization project that did not suceed and the licenses were never used.
We want to install those OEM licenses in the desktops but we found that the dvd that came with each license as the OS in Portuguese and we would like to install the OS in english.Since we do not want
to take any chance and not be 100% legal with Microsoft my first question is if we can use on those desktops the OEM license for windows 7 professional 64 bits Portuguese language that we have but have the desktops with windows 7 professional 64 bits English
language OS.That takes me to the second question that is if we can use one windows 7 professional 64 bits english dvd to setup the desktops.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Best Rgs,
    Ricardo Mendes

    Hi,
As far as I know, in windows 7, only the Ultimate and Enterprise are support multiple language.
Windows 7 language packs are available for computers that are running Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972813
And if you want to use OEM license, you need the OEM disk from the manufacturer to install windows.

  • Education Licensing - Basic Questions

    Hi
I have some basic questions regarding licensing of student version of Adobe software (in UK).
    1) If I purchase an education version of an application and install it on a mac can I transfer it to a replacment mac in the furture?
    2) Can I upgrade it? For example, from Phtoshop CS4 to CS5 when it comes out?
    3) When my education programme finishes can I upgrade to the full commercial version?
    4) What are the limitations - upgrade, use of...etc - of the education versions?
    Many thanks

  • WSA / CWS Licensing count question.

    Hello,
I have a question how WSA and CWS are licensed based on the number of users.
Is it based on concurrent or named users, active sessions based on source IP address or another way? This old post mentions concurrent users but based on a legacy ironport ordering guide. And that document does not mention any licensing methods.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3949429
However for CWS i found this post:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/4003674
For the sizing it mentions: "It will be total number of CWS users, not concurrent users". Sizing is nog licensing, but the CWS datasheet mentions "The Cisco Web Security portfolio uses tiered pricing based on the number of users".
I believe there are licenses allowing mixed use of CWS and WSA in combination with the free Virtual Applicances. Is this correct and how does this reflect on my question regarding user licensing?

    Hi,
It's based on the number of named users, however there is no absolute way to count the users so it's a trust thing too and you should be honest about how many users you have.
    Thanks

  • Creative Cloud license agreement question.

This is very interesting for me to use whole CS6 only for 50$/Mo. But it's a bit complicated.
Technically I am a citizen of Russia, but most of the year I live in USA or Thailand. And more importantly, I have an American bank cards.
So, my question is: Can I use my American bank card to purchase Creative Clouds subscription and don't violate agreement?
    Thanks for answers.

    Hey EnotBert,
The issue is not that you have the US Bank card but it is that the Software needs to be Deployed in US only. ULA (User License Agreement.) says that if you want to Deploy the Software Locally you need to buy it Locally. Only Exception to that, if you are a CLP customer you can buy Perpetual License in US and deploy it anywhere in the world, but this does not apply for Cloud. Hope this helps and explains. Thanks Bharat.
