License file & user privileges

When I start aperture it's started asking for my details & serial number. I then get the following error message:
"The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
I'm the only user on the mac!
I now have to enter this info every time I start aperture - any ideas?

I've got the exact same problem with Final Cut Studio 2. I tried reinstalling, but it didn't help.
The error message I get after typing my serial number: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges.
This is getting really annoying, as I am required to write my serial number and name each time I open any final cut program.

According to the error message, please use performance monitor to diagnose if it is a memory-related bottleneck and you can use the counters of the memory part in the article below:

In addition, it may be due to thousands of open connections to the server are in a TIME_WAIT state. You can run "netstat -an" command on the affected server and client. If you see mutiple connections in the TIME_WAIT state, you can follow the article
to increase the number of TCP/IP connections:

Furthermore, if you are running windows server 2003, please make sure that you have installed the KB 948496 and stop all services that you don't need.

Requiring user to have our license file to access help content

On Colum's blog, he references a process by which his team used their product's license file as a way to limit access to RoboServer-hosted help. Specifically, he stated:
"My team and me have had to build a series of hoops and then jump through them in order to get the documentation into a production environment. This includes displaying the documentation in a secure browser and with an application that uses basic authentication to pass (unbeknown to the end user) a userid and password to display it. The basic premise being that if you don’t have access an application license you won’t get access to the documentation."
This sounds like an approach that may be exactly what my team could use. We require a license file for our product (even during its demo period) and requiring a valid license file for one to access the help content would ensure that only authorized users see the help.
Obviously, we would want this process to be as painless and transparent to the customer as possible.
Has anyone done this? Can anyone provide some additonal details about the effort and process required? I'm looking for enough info to take this to development so we can examine the feasibility of doing so and I'd like a somewhat clearer idea of the process before I bring it up for discussion.

That was a old blog post and as you no doubt know things move quickly in this wonderful career of ours.
I really should update that post to state what happened in the long run. In short we tested a Java browser (our app is written in Java) that did as I described plus tied down all the usual browser functionality (e.g. visible URL, right click menu, etc.). However, and it was a big however, the browsing history was still recorded on each end user's PC. There was no way that we could find to stop this. Therefore despite all the effort we had gone to, there was nothing to stop anyone from interrogating their browser history and accessing the help via one of the URLs recorded there.
In the end we decided to ignore the Java browser solution and allow the users to access to help in their default browser. We even sacrifaced the user authentication on the grounds that it required a lot of coding effort and did not offer us the security we originally required.

I keep having to write the serial number and user information when I run Final Cut Pro and any other Final Cut Studio apps.
It says: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges.
So everytime I open a final cut studio program I am asked for this information again before running.
This is REALY annoying. I tried reinstalling, and it wouldn't help.

Not able to play some of the copyrighted or licensed files

Hi,
Since a month or so, I am not able to play most of my wma files, which were ripped from original audio CDs. The problem is not universally applicable to all of the licensed files because there are some, I am able to play(but that is only a minority, as that
represents music from just one original audio CD).
A few times in between I am able to play these files, but I am unable to find any correlation with any action/task performed. This problem resurfaces again and again.
I tried restoring the computer, but didn't solved it. Restarted, fixed the registry errors, but to no avail.
Please note that I am also having blue screen errors from time to time (one error in a day or two). The blue screen of death comes just randomly and computer restarts.
I also vaguely remember that a few weeks back, I solved this problem by typing some command in command prompt. I tried to find out that web page(from where I got this command), but couldn't. It was may be a registry problem. But, I am not 100% sure about all
this.
Below are the outcomes on different players:
Winamp:- Nothing happens
WMP:- A message comes "The player is not installed correctly, please reinstall the player"
VLC:- Tries to play repeatedly, not able to play.

Regarding the error messages showed above, have you tried to reinstall Windows Media Player by
Turn Windows Features on or off?

Run with user privileges but write to restricted folder

In Windows Server 2008 R2 (and in an Active Directory domain), the login and logoff scripts are run with user privileges.
Suppose that I run script1.ps1, when user1 logs in; I need that script1.ps1 is associated to user1, because it will write some informations about that user: it modifies a log file in a folder. Anyway, script1.ps1 will be run with user1 privileges.
I obviously made that file and that folder accessible (readable/writable) to user1: but I actually don't want the user to modify that log file. I would like that
only the script could do it.
Is there a way to work around this problem? Maybe should I run script1.ps1 in a different way?

Henry. You can add a subscription to a server that subscribes t event log entries on user computers. Subscribe to the logon/logoff events. Now you have a central repository of logon and logoff events.
There is no way to accomplish what you are asking to do. Any file that can be written to in logon script or during a user session can be changed by the user.
Bil is suggesting a "startup" script that runs when the user logs on and not when the computer starts. A user startup script runs as the user and not system.
Another method is to schedule a script that run at logon. This can run as system and write to a file that the user cannot change.

Hello, I need help! I'm now creating a system based in Java which I need to create a user privilege for security purposes. I need to create 3 kinds of users, 1st is the administrator and the 2nd is a viewer access which can only view the software but can't edit anything and the last 1 is the encoder view. Please help!!! java programs can not run without a jvm. there may be some compiliers that can compile down to native code but i haven't heard of any good ones. your best bet is to download installanywhere, there is a freeware version, and it will wrap up your program along with a jvm and generate an .exe file. Keep in mind that the exe that it generates just starts up the jvm and your program but it will appear to be like any exe.

Impossible to set up a TC with admin and users privileges

Sorry for my english first. I'm not an english speaker...
That's one week I'm playing with my Tc to try to set it up with admin and users privileges and and doesn't succeed to find a good way to do it....
What I want to do: set up my Tc so that I'm an admin and can do whatever I want in the folders of each user. I want the user to have access to one folder with their name. Let's say I would like to user my TC like a usual network drive or NAS.
What I discover: if I enable file sharing with accounts on my TC and define two users user1 and user2 with Read write privileges, user1 can see a folder user1 and put whatever he wants in it and there's a share folder for user1 and user2. BUT I cannot be admin on the TC when account filesharing is on. It means I cannot put anything in user1 folder beacuse I don't see user1 folder. It is just like if you have user accounts on TC you can just change the privileges but not defined an administrator. I'm able to see user1 folder for instance solely changing the filesharing back to secure shared disks "with time capsule password". If i do so I can see all the folders on the TC.
But it's very annoying because it means that each time I want to put a file inside the folder of one of my user, I have to restart my TC "with time capsule password", put the file, set it up back to user account and restart again the TC.... Not really practical!
Anyone got an idea how to use the Tc with user accounts (one admin and others users...)

I forgot to mention that I tried also another method: giving guest access to TC to my two users but there are several problems here: first they can only read (if not they would have the same privileges as me) what means they can put any document in the TC. Second, they see all the folders on the TC and the idea is that they can only see the shared one....

Is there a way to test NIVLM using a dummy license file?

we are testing a situation where an autocad install (Flexlm) crashes a nicely running VLM install. we wan to test this on another server using a dummy license file. just to keep away from the Live environment. Can this be done?

By the way:
Autocad ports are directed to 27002 while NI ports are directed to the default 27000. the "funny" thing is, that after installing autocod NI licensing does not work. then after re-installing nivlm, VLM and autocad work, using the flexlm tool. users still get the message that they are not licensed, but the flexlm lm tool notes the logged on user. the nivlm tool on the other hand does not know the user has klogged on. That could be explained by the fact that in the nivlm tool de licenseserver cannot be started using the Start License Server Button.

Changing deployment ID when changing to master license file

We are using HFM 9.2.0 and am having license server problems due to duplicate users in the database. Can anybody tell me what I would need to do to repleace our existing license file with the master license file? I know the Deployment ID will need to be changed but I can't find out where in the system this id will need to be changed.
Any help is appreciated.

Cannot allocate license to user

Dear all,
Desperately need some help / insight here. I have a server which I already successfully installed with SAP server and server tools. I also already import license file (permanent license file) into my server.
The problem is, when I tried to allocate aforementioned permanent license to existing user, the check-box control which usually visible on : Administration - License - License Administration - "Allocation" Tab doesn't visible at all. However, in "Components" tab, I could see clearly list of licenses components along with total number, available licenses, start date, expiration date. But in "Allocation" tab, the "B1 user type licenses" column doesn't show any kind of licenses, therefore the check-box which located under "Used" column and "Available" column also doesn't exist (blank).
I have read some post that suggest we click the "Change" button which located right over the B1 User type licenses grid to change the license, but unfortunately, the "Change" button in my server is disabled (cannot be clicked at all). I already tried to connect from many workstation to my server (one of my friend suggest me to try this, indicating the problem itself reside in SAP B1 client) but with no avail. But, if I connect from the very same workstation to my other server, the problem doesn't occur (I could easily click "Change" button and check / allocate the license to certain user). The bottom-line is, the problem seems happen only with my production server with permanent license.
Could anyone please help me with this situation? Considering this occur at my production server, I'm really need some help here. Thanks in advance.

i think you using more one database in server. and license assign on different data. you check number license in tab Components ( license Professional User , Limited Financials User .... ) . u can detack database that not use and restart server tool again.
additional you can remove license file in path C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP\SAP Business One ServerTools\License (B1LicenseFile-....) and then import license file again. ( button change will visible )

Using LMS 3.2 to backup Generation 2 License files

Hi,
Can LMS3.2 be used to backup license files for gen two routers and switches? If not, is there another product that does it? How about LMS 4.0? I believe I can manually back up these files to a local FTP server, but I would like an automated proccess.

LMS does not handle these automatically, but you could use Netconfig to automate the backup. You could build a Netconfig job that copies the license files off to an FTP server, then deploy that job across all your ISRs. This will work in LMS 3.2 and 4.0.
You will need to create a user-defined template in Netconfig or just use the Adhoc template. The job needs to run in Enable mode (vs. Config mode). The FTP command will be interactive, so you'll need to use something like:
copy flash:/file.lic ftp://username:[email protected]

Activating "Check user privileges" causes TestStand to not start properly.

Recently we checked the box "Check User Privileges" under Station Options->User Manager.
Now when we try to start the Teststand Sequence editor it opens but with all functionality grayed out so that no action whatsoever can be taken.
If we make an attempt to use File-Login no new box appears but the GUI flickers for a millisecond as if a dialog was open and closed at almost the same time.
If we try to start a sequence file directly from windows explorer it replies with an error message : "Could not open the sequence file(s).... Error code: -18360, User does not have required privilege".
What has happened and does anyone have any good ideas about how to remedy this?

You can change the "Check User Privileges" setting back to the default by modifying the TestExec.ini file, located by default at (C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\TestStand 2010\Cfg)
With TestStand closed, change the line CheckUserPrivileges = False to CheckUserPrivileges = True
Also, the login dialog issue can occur if the loginlogout sequence becomes corrupted (this would explain the flickering behavior). To restore this sequence to its default state, you can do the following:
Move the FrontendCallbacks.Seq file to a different location (such as my documents), located by default at (for TestStand 2010):
C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 2010\Components\Callbacks\FrontEnd\FrontEndCallbacks.seq
Run a repair install of TestStand to recreate the default version of the file

"license file for this version could not be found" message when trying to install latest version of Firefox

I keep trying to install Firefox 3.6.10, and it seems to work, but then when it comes time to accept the user agreement, that option is grayed out and I can only go back. In the Software License Agreement box is the following message: "The license file for this version could not be found. Please visit Firefox homepage for more information."

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.<br />
Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

Hi,
one possible solution is to use an intermediate array. The intermediate array should be used in the user interface. When new data is entered the VI should read each element and then compare to the elements in the stored array. If all elements are different then update the array, otherwise display a fault message.
You could use asequence activated when the Enter button is pressed. In the first frame you would compare the First array with the stored array. it is probably best to use a Boolean indicator to show if the data is valid Make sure you declare this as a local variable.
With the sequence you can perform the comparisons in several seperate frames or in one frame with a OR to link the results. For large numbers of comparisons I prefer to use m
ultiple frames because otherwise the screen becomes a maze of wires and other programmers who may need to maintain the code in the future will find it hard to follow a single frame.
Once all the data items have been compared then the following sequence should contain a CASE statement of type True/False. Link a readable copy of your local variable to the selector of this statement. Then in the FALSE case (Assuming you have linked the boolean to be false when no data is duplicated) copy the new array to the stored array. In the TRUE case bring up an error message.
So long as your arrays are not too large and you do not use this technique in too many places in your code the processor overhead should not be badly affected. For frequent use of such a caomparison in several VIs you may want to create a dedicated subVI for the task. For very large arrays you should seek a different solution.
