License for SIP trunk?
Hi Guys, we are going to setup a few SIP Trunks between CUCM 7.1.3 and third party FAX server. Do we need extra license for this SIP trunk? I had a look at the license calculator but it doesn't mention any SIP trunks. So I think it will not consume any license units, am I correct?
Thanks. Leo
Yes, correct, no licenses required/consumed for/by SIP Trunk.

Cca xml export for SIP Trunk service providers, request or schema.
Hi
Please can I have the complete xml schema for SIP trunks so I can create a proper template?
Exporting from CCA 3.2.2 gives me an incomplete and sometimes inaccurate xml file
example: toll fraud protection - I would like to add this in to the template - how
SIP registration: If I set this to 120 on CCA and export - the exported template remains as 3600
thanks
AdamHi Adam,
Are you saying when you try to export your SIP trunk settings via CCA that your settings are incorrect in the xml file? If so, I recommend opening a case to troubleshoot the issue as it sounds like a bug to me. -
How to Remove port number for SIP trunk in CME
Hi,
I trying to set a SIP trunk with SIP provider, I have CME 7.1
The trunk is registered now but I can´t make calsl via SIP provider. After some debbugs sip provider's staff told me that the solution is not
not append the port in the INVITE.
Is it possible to do this?, How?
I have found some info about normalization but is relating to CM server not CME.
regardswhat port number does your provider use for signalling? They need to provide you the port number if its different from the standard 5060..
You can then configure the signalling ports on your dial-peer as shown in example below..where port 5081 is used here
dial-peer voice 1 voip
destination-pattern .T
session protocol sipv2
session target ipv4:10.10.10.24:5081

Sofware license for SIP protocol
I AM LOOKING FOR A CONFIRMATION REGARDING SOFTWARE license. I apoke earlier with a Cisco's representative asking him if software license is needed for usinh IP telephone, without a conecction to CISCI'S operator. I intend to use SIP technology. Cisco's rep asnwer was that license is not needed. Please assist with a writen confiemation to that answer. Thanks for the assitance.
Hi Eyal,
Here is the clearest documentation I have seen in regards to your question;
ORDERING INFORMATION
Ordering has become to complex to place the order code numbers. Note that "All Cisco IP Phones require the purchase of a phone technology license, regardless of the call protocol server phone is attached to."
From this good doc;
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_data_sheet09186a008008884a.html
Hope this helps!
Rob

Anyone use CUBE for SIP trunking? Have a read.

silent discard-untrusted
Silent discard was added in 15.3.3M to make the router not send 403 errors to untrusted entities...which exposes the router (validates that it's there essentially).
Might want to add that when upgrading to that version.

SIP Trunk - No voice with Single Number Reach
Hi Community.
I setup SIP Trunk with the CCA. Everything is working Call In and Call Out. Call Forward and so on.
But with Single Number reach is something wrong. The mobile phone is ringing and I can get the call, but I hear not any voice.
Can someone please help me out? Below the config.

enHi Patrick
I am working on this one as well. I have a UC560 with SIP Trunk provider Les.NET.
It was working fine until a few weeks ago when something changed on the provider end and broke it. My hunch it is something to do with the SIP REFER.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/voice-unified-communications/unified-communications-manager-express/91535-cme-sip-trunking-config.html
Here is an excerpt from the above page:
Call Transfer
When a call comes in on an SIP trunk to an SCCP Phone or CUE AutoAttendant (AA) and is transferred, the CME by default will send a SIP REFER message to the SP proxy. Most SP Proxy Servers do not support the REFER method. This needs to be configured in order to force the CME to hairpin the call:
Router(config)#voice service voip
Router(conf-voi-serv)#no supplementary-service sip refer
Figure 3 shows the behavior of the CME system with the REFER method disabled. -
Hello!
Now we use Cisco IP telephony based on Cisco CME. Cisco CME is installed on 2821 router with IOS C2800NM-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M, Version 12.4(24)T7. A SIP trunk is configured between CME router and telephony provider.
We plan to upgrade our telephone system and begin using Cisco CBE6000. I study the documentation and in "Cisco Business Edition Unified Communications and Collaboration Solutions for Small and Midsized Companies", I find that for SIP trunk to works in CBE6000 a Cisco Integrated Services Router with Cisco Unified Border Element is required. Or other quote from this document "Public switched telephone network (PSTN) connections using SIP is available through any Cisco Integrated Services Router voice gateway".
In this regard there is a question: what is the functions of this router when I make a trunk between CBE6000 and telephony provider SIP gateway and whether it is possible to use existing Cisco 2821 router as such router.
Thanks.Hi Ayodeji,
I too have a somewhat similar query.
We have UC560 running currently at our company, the UC560 is connected to an ISDN modem from the network provider. We are now upgrading to BE6000. To connect to the ISDN E1/T1 line, we've ordered Cisco 2921 with a E1/T1 VWIC card (VWIC3-2MFT-T1/E1) which will connect to BE6000 and internal LAN. I just wanted to know what would I need to configure on 2921?
Do I need to install CUBE or just configure it to connect to ISDN line?
Many thanks for any help.
regards, -
Calls from Sip Trunk to UC540 and then to CUE returned ** Service Unavailable**
Hi to all
i have something strange here and i need your assistance
Call Flow:
Sip trunk-->UC540--> CUE
When calls coming to UC540 from outside and then going to cue then we send back service unavailable.I made a translation and i sent directly the incoming calls to CUE
The same behavior is also if i send the calls to dummy number and then from there set forward all to voice mail.
Incoming voicemail is working fine
Incoming calls to phones also ok
Uc540: 8.6
CUE: 8.6.5
A number: 99999999
B number: 22777777
Voice Mail Number:111
Attached is the trace
i see that we hit the correct dial peers .
I have enable only trancoder since MTP is not register ( don't know why , but i don't think also that is necessary..

CME required CUBE license for ISP SIP Trunk
Hi,
We have IP telephony setup with CME 9.1 with 2921 ISRG2 router.
Client would like to take ISP SIP trunk.
Do we require CUBE license for the same.Because I tried in the 2851 router without the CUBE license and its working fine.
How I can check CUBE license installed my CME.
When I check license in CME I can see that UC K9 and IPBasek9 license are permanent.
Do this enough for the SIP trunk configuration.
Thanks & Regards
Nithin Louis.Just to add to George answer - CUBE licenses are somekind "honor" based right now which means you can configure everything and it will work but you need license paper for proving that you have adequate number of CUBE licenses for your system.
Maybe in future Cisco will improve this with option that you will need to install license and only then it will work - like many other licensing right now...

Why do we need MTP in the SIP trunk for CVP warm transfers
Hi All,
Why do we need to enable MTP in SIP trunk between CUCM and CVP for CVP based trasnfers???
Thanks in advance!!
Regards,
Thammaya Gupta K.I saw also in the CDR logs that the IP Phone media transport going to CUBE is in G711.And as well in the wireshark capture of the IP communicator that the CUCM invoke to use the g711 codec but as per ITSP logs they are now in the g729.
@ Jamie If I un-tick the MTP point required in SIP trunk will make the call leg from IP Phone to CUBE g729 (w/o hw resource), I have also tried to use g729 preferred originating codec, but still the IP Phone is using g711.
I have seen a documentation states:
" To configure G.729 codecs for use with a SIP trunk, you must use a hardware MTP or transcoder that supports the G.729 codec." - I read this on the CUCM help page under configuring SIP trunk setting.
Our ultimate goal is to use g729 without using HW MTP/ transcoder.

CUCM SIP Trunk Unable to find a device handler for the request received
I have a lab running CUCM 10.0 that has a SIP trunk to a VCS. Previously I was able to place and receive calls across the trunk, but now I can only place calls, not receive. I did recently upgrade to 10.5, but I really can't recall if it ever worked after the upgrade. The error I'm getting in CUCM is
Unable to route message, Cannot find the SIP Device with Name=192.1.1.61, Source Port=5060, IpAddress Type=0
This confuses me, because the destination IP/port of the VCS SIP trunk is 192.1.1.61:5060. The trunk on CUCM show as up and the Zone in VCS shows as up. What is going on?
Thanks, MikeI figured it out. Long story short, it was a port mismatch. When you configure Mobile Remote Access on the Expressway Core it creates a SIP trunk from Expressway to CUCM using port 5060. If you then create another SIP trunk from the same Expressway to CUCM for firewall traversal or external calling, you must use a different port. The port used for the zone in Expressway must match the SIP security profile used on the CUCM side SIP trunk. So I had created another SIP Security profile in CUCM with port 5062 for this purpose. However, the VCS in question that I was working with was only being used for FW traversal, so I used 5060 as the port on the VCS side, but I applied the SIP security profile that used 5062 on the CUCM side. That's why CUCM was throwing that "device not found" error. Once I changed the Security Profile to match the same port used on VCS (5060) all was well. Sorry for the long winded answer. Hope it helps someone else down the road.

Testing new sip trunk for an upgraded system....
Hey all,
Hoping I can get a quick direction on this.....
We are upgrading our call center servers and need to point a few test toll free numbers.
I have already created a test sip trunk....here's where it all gets muddy for me. What do I need to do to route 4 specific toll free numbers to hit this specific sip trunk instead of going to our current one?
Any docs and verbal guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance all!Ok, so here's what i did....
I created the following >>> RG with new server as member>RL with the new RG as member>RP
We already have a RP of 5[1-9]XXX which matches the DNIS of the 4 toll free numbers we are using for this test, so I just went ahead and created an exact match RP of 59796. (I'll create the other 3 if I can get this to work)
Before I created all this, the call went to our sales dept like designed. After creating it, now I get a "this number has been disconnected" message. What did I miss? -
Best SIP trunk providers for Lync in UK
Hi,
Does anyone have any experience with SIP trunk providers in UK? can you suggest one that does not require me to purchase a MPLS line (like BT) or one that requires me to have a SBC on site. I have tried Gamma too but they are extremely slow in any kind of
response, any request can take over a month for them to complete.
P.S. please do not send me the link for approved SIP providers, i know about that, I am trying to see if anyone from UK has some good experience with a provider that I can utilize.
Thanks,This is most likely because the analogue phones are sending inband message in the progress indicator. We can see this from the ISDN logs, which is not present in the digital phones.
Oct 7 21:36:38.991: ISDN Se0/0/0:15 Q931: RX <- ALERTING pd = 8 callref = 0x8213
Progress Ind i = 0x8582 - Destination address is non-ISDN
This is because usually analogue ports/devices always send 183 Session Progress.
Where are these analogue phones connected? On a cisco router? if they are then you can use the command below to get them to send alerting (180 ringing) to the sip provider.

SIP Trunk for Legacy Nortel PBX
We have a legacy Nortel Meridian Option 11c, and about 400 digital sets. This is being fed by two PRI's from a big, old telecom whose name you would recognize if I told you. Our 3-year contract on the PRI's expired and our long distance went up overnight by an unbelievable percentage (completely outrageous and unsustainable). We have to get off of them right away. We're thinking that a SIP trunk service would be an economical way to bring down the costs; however the current system does not have capabilities to connect to a SIP trunk. There are two ways to address this: 1) a SIP-to-PRI gateway device (Digium, Adtran, etc.), or 2) get a whole new phone system. We have vendors trying to push us a to completely new phone system. We are not in a position to buy a new phone system. Maybe in a couple of years, but not now. Yes, I know Nortel...
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks CommunityYou don't need H323 at all in this setup, man.
The Correct Setup Is:
TDM PBX ----PRI--->Cisco ISRG2 Gateway with PVDMs and VWIC2 or better ----SIP-----> SIPSP
This works like you have a PRI gateway from the PSTN to CUCM, except reversed. The VOIP call legs face your SIP SP, and the POTS call legs face the PBX.
I'd recommend against Q.SIG. I know a lot of people like it but each PBX vendor speaks a slightly different version and it gets messy. Just provision the whole thing as NI2 and make sure you are the network and clock source for the PBX (clock source internal on the controller and protocol-emulate network on the Serial x/x/x:23 interface).
Make sure your dial peers are set up correctly and this is easy as cake, man.
Let me know if you need any configuration assistance on this, I've done it like a thousand times.
Chuck
