License High for High-Availability System

Hi to all:
I have read the SAP Note 181543 and when I License a system and make the switchover to the Second Node, it (Node 2) hasn’t the licenses actives.
Later, I have balancing again to Node 1 and in operating system I executed with <sid>adm saplicense -show but the result is this:
epsbgsp:prdadm 1> saplicense -show
saplicense: no license entries found
But in SAP system of Node1 and 2 in SLICENSE transaction appear the licenses for 2 nodes.
1.- How I can import the licenses to Node 2?. In Node 2, transaction SAP system in SLICENSE transaction appears the licenses for 2 nodes.
2.- Is it normally that in operating system level, with saplicense -show the program says that no license entries found?
Thanks you very much!!!

Hi
try to install the license through SLICENSE and click on. Click on new license and upload the license from the location (Download or copy the .txt file on system).
Reward points if userful.

  • HANA High Availability System Vs Storage Vs VIP failover

    Dear Experts,
Hope your all doing great. I would like to seek your expertise on HANA high availability best practice. We have been deciding to use TDI for BW on HANA. The next big question for us is how make it available atleast 99.99%.
I was going through multiple documents, SDN forums, etc..but would like to see how the experts are performing in real time.
    My view -
Virtual IP failover is a common HA practice which have been used to failover CI / DB hosts depends on failure/maintenance. In this case, both nodes can be used to run app servers.
System replication - HANA based required secondary standby node, which doesn't accept user requests, but replicate the database from primary using logs after initial data snapshot either synchronous or Asynchronous. (Can be used as HA or DR - if servers are between different data centers).
Storage replication - HANA based required secondary standby node, which replicates SAN for HA/DR.
Could you please provide your expertise method you followed for HANA HA and what are the pros, cons and challenges that you have faced or facing.
    Thanks

Do you know any specific doc that describes the installation and configuration steps of 10g RAC on NAS? If possible, can you provide some link that I could use to perform this task?
I have done RAC installations on SAN without any problems and its something I'm fairly experienced with. With NAS I am not really comfortable since I can't seem to find any documentation that describes step by step installation procedure or guidelines for that matter.
    Thank you for your input

  • SAP PI 7.1 High Availability, Active-Active or Active-Passive

We are planning go to HA system for PI 7.11
    I've few doubts/questions regarding this.
Can we make Active-Active clustering or Active-Passive? Or itu2019s our choice?
If it is our choice, then is at Configuration level (Application level)? or hardware level?
What are additional steps we need to take for Active-Active clustering? (Which we are looking for)
    What is recommended by SAP?
    Any Pros & Cons.
Please reply me if you have any information regarding this, any information regards to this is greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Sagar,
Please use Active-Passive for your SAP PI 7.1 High Availability system.
For more details, please refer to the sdn link:
    High Availability
    ->High Availability FAQ
    ->What is an "active-active cluster"?
An active-active cluster consists of two independent server nodes at a minimum. The workload within a cluster resource is shared between the server nodes. If a cluster node crashes the processes are resumed by the remaining cluster nodes. An active-active cluster configuration means that a cluster resource is active on all cluster nodes. The aim of an active-active cluster is not only to provide high availability system but to distribute the workload between the cluster nodes. Applications with a very high workload like databases benefit from an active-active setup. Due to the SAP Central Services Instance is a light component an active-active setup does not make any sense. Therefore the SCS is implemented as an active-passive cluster resource.

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.30 High-Availability installation without MSCS

    Hi all,
Do we have any option to install SAP NetWeaver 7.30 High-Availability System on the third-party cluster solution, except for MS Cluster Service?
I tried to install the first cluster node without MSCS configuration, however, sapinst.exe checks whether we already set up MSCS on this node, then installer aborted.
I'd like to know the way to disable this checks. (Or, way to mimic the installer as if MSCS cluster configuration was done.)
    If unavailable, I have to install MSCS first, and SAP NetWeaver, then also have to uninstall MSCS instead of out cluster software;
It seems to me no sense.
    Best regards,

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for your quick response.
It is disappointed for me that HA Installation is tightly combined with MSCS.
Do we have a way to migrate from other installation scenario to High-Availability?
For example, once we install ASCS instance as distributed system, then migrate
it for High-Availability usage, leveraged by profile updates and so on?
I'm not sure how High-Availability installation is different from other installation
scenario except for installation path and hostname to be used for connection.
    Best regards,

  • Question on replication/high availability designs

We're currently trying to work out a design for a high-availability system using Oracle 9i release 2. Having gone through some of the Oracle whitepapers, it appears that the ideal architecture involves setting up 2 RAC sites using Dataguard to synchronize the data. However, due to time and financial constraints, we are only allowed to have 2 servers for hosting the databases, which are geographically separate from each other in prevention of natural disasters. Our app servers will use JDBC pools to connect to the databases.
Our goal is to have both databases be the mirror image of each other at any given time, and the database must be working 24/7. We do have a primary and a secondary distinction between the two, so if the primary fails, we would like the secondary database to take over the tasks as needed.
The ability to query existing data is mission critical. The ability to write/update the database is less important, however we do need the secondary to be able to process data input/updates when primary is down for a prolonged period of time, and have the ability to synchronize back with the primary site when it is back up again.
My question now is which replication technology should we try to implement? I've looked into both Oracle Advanced Replication and Dataguard, each seems to have its own advantages and drawbacks:
Replication - can easily switch between the two databases using multimaster implementation, however data recovery/synchronization may be difficult in case of failure, and possibly will lose data (pending implementation). There has been a few posts in this forum that suggested that replication should not really be considered as an option for high availability, why is that?
Dataguard - zero data loss in failover/switchover, however manual intervention is required to initiate failover/switchover. Once the primary site fails over to the standby, the standby becomes the primary until DBA manually goes back in and switch the roles. In Oracle 10g release 2, seems that automatic failover is achieved through the use of an extra observer piece. There does not seem to be anyway to do this in Oracle 9i release 2.
Being new to the implementation of high-availability systems, I am at somewhat of a loss at this point. Both implementations seem to be a possible candidate, but we will need to sacrifice some efforts for both of them also. Would anyone shine some light on this, maybe point out my misconceptions with Advanced Replication and Dataguard, and/or suggest a better architecture/technology to use? Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
    Sincerely,
    Peter Tung

    Hi,
It sounds as if you're talking about the DB_TXN_NOSYNC flag, rather than DB_NOSYNC.
You mention that in general, you lose uncommitted transactions on system failure. I think what you mean is that you may lose some committed transactions on system failure. This is correct.
It is also correct that if you use replication you can arrange to have clients have a copy of all committed transactions, so that if the master fails (and enough clients do not fail, of course) then the clients still have the transaction data, even when using DB_TXN_NOSYNC.
This is a very common usage scenario for Berkeley DB replication/HA, used to achieve high throughput. You will want to pay attention to the configured ack policy, group size setting, setting of the 2SITE_STRICT option (if group size == 2).

  • Mac OS X Server, High Availability, Mac Mini

    Hi All,
Currently running Mac OS X Server on a mac mini, I'm looking for some ways to make that mac mini "server" a high availability system for my office.
The first thing i will change is to install the operating system on a external firewire 2 disks RAID 1 hard drive : http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=10967
Then I'm thinking how to make sure the rest of the mac mini will be running all the time as well.
That's why I'm wondering if it's possible to make everything double : 2 minis with 1 RAID hard drive each.
Each complete set would be linked to create somewhat of fail-over system : If one set woes the other one can take over with exactly the same data.
A bit like what it's been done here :
http://homepage.mac.com/pauljlucas/personal/macmini/cluster.html but with OS X Server instead of Linux.

    Hi lulu62-
I am working on a similar project with Minis so I will be keeping an eye on your site.
In addition to Camelot's suggestions, do not forget to have a robust UPS with Automatic Voltage Regulation capable of supporting all of your gear for any expected down time.
The Mini is excellent because you can power it for a long time on a healthy-sized UPS.
    Luck-

  • Oracle Version - High Availability Installation

    Hi,
We are shortly to install SAP on Windows2008/Oracle.
The DEV and TEST systems are to be installed as stand alone Centralised installations.
The LIVE system is to be installed as a High Availability system, clustered over two hosts.
I have questions surrounding the Oracle Editions:
Looking at the differences between the two Oracle editions in respect to our requirements, Enterprise supports fail-over, whereas Standard does not.
    So,
Does an SAP high availability installation require Oracle Enterprise Edition to be installed or can it be Oracle Standard Edition?
Does SAP's High Availability installation functionality handle the complete failover, regardless of Oracle Version?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Chris

    > Does an SAP high availability installation require Oracle Enterprise Edition to be installed or can it be Oracle Standard Edition?
SAP systems (also for test and QA)  always require Oracle Enterprise edition. You may get it technically to work with the standard edition but it's not supported:
Note 105047 - Support for Oracle functions in the SAP environment

        * SAP products always require the Oracle Enterprise edition, using Oracle Standard edition is not permitted.

  • J2E License Key File With Changed System Number

    Hello,
During the last weeks, there had been some trouble according to the sneak preview licensing web site to get a new license key for special SAP systems like J2E, NSP etc.
In the meantime, I used especially for my J2E instance via visual admin the button "install subsequent temp license" with success.
Returning anew to the web site today, I saw that now we are able again to renew the license key for our trial systems and ordered successfully license keys for J2E and NSP instance.
Because both systems have got new system numbers, I deleted the expired license key for NSP via saplicense -delete. Then I installed regularly the given new license key with success.
After starting the J2E instance, I tried to delete the existing active license (see above) via installed licenses getting a message which let me stop my try to delete the license because I feared for to get trouble with the system afterwards.
The exact text of the warning trying to delete the existing active license sounds:
    DELETE J2EE-Engine_ADA License:
You are about to delete the license for the J2EE-Engine. This may lead to a shutdown of the running system. You will not be able to start the J2EE-Engine again without a valid license. Do you really want to proceed?
Trying to install the given license from file (via General), I got the informational message:
This system's system number is "xyz", but there is a license key for the system number "abc" in file path\J2E.txt. License key file path\J2E.txt doesn't contain any valid SAP license keys.
    License key(s) not completely installed.
    That was to be expected...
    So my questions are:
    1) What is to do when I want to implement the new given license key file which has another system number as the existing active one.
    2) How often can I use the possibility to prolong my active license via button "Install subsequent temp. license" in future without falling in trouble?
    Thank you for your answers.
    Regards
    Christian

Before deleting the J2EE engine license, check the "Installed Licenses" tab and verify that there is another J2EE-engine license with Validity "Valid" and within a satisfactory date range.  Only under this situation will I feel comfortable with removing the additional/expired licenses.
Your original message is a bit confusing ... let me see if I got it correctly.  You have been running your J2EE instance with temp licenses, because there was some issues w/ preview licensing on SAP's web site.  Now that you have finally received your preview license, you wish to install it.
But since then, your system number has changed.  Do you mean system ID?  Since your example used a 3 character ('xyz' vs 'abc').  I think the SID is what you mean.  Because changing system number will not require a new license, but changing the SID will.
So now you have the following.
    1. J2EE running on temp license with SID 'xyz'
    2. A new preview license for SID 'abc'
What you need to do is:
    1. Request from SAP preview license for the SID that matches your system 'xyz'.  OR, change the SID of your system from 'xyz' to 'abc', which is not recommended ...especially w/ AS-JAVA.
    2. Install the new preview licenses.
    3. Verify preview licenses are valid.
    4. I don't believe you have to remove the temp licenses, it's overwritten when you install the permanent preview licenses.

  • Generating license for ISE high availability primary/secondary nodes

We have two ISE servers that will act as primary/secondary in a high availability setup.
The ISE 1.0.4 installation guide, page 93, mentions that "If you have two Cisco ISE nodes configured for high availability, then you must include both the primary and secondary Administration ISE node hardware and IDs in the license file."
However, after entering the PAK in the licensing page, the only required fields are:
    - Primary Product ID
    - Primary Version ID
    - Primary Serial No
In this case, how can i include both primary and secondry HW and IDs?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Choosing a highly-available, networked file system for VM images

What's the consensus here on highly-available, networked file systems for VM disk images?
    HA-NFS seems difficult and overly-complicated.
GlusterFS doesn't seem to be well-suited for this task.
Ceph/RADOS seems popular but there isn't much information available.
OCFS2 seem to be suitable but there also isn't much information available.
    Eric P.
    Truckee, CA

Actually, I still would suggest taking a closer look at what I had mentioned in your other thread:
[Use OCFS2 to Share Local Storage (DAS) Across OVM Compute Nodes|https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2438632&tstart=0]
I still think that this would also solve thus thread. In the end, there is no how-to on how to build that up and you probably will need some help from some experts. I for myself, also didnÄt configure all of that on my own - i left ASM/Cluster part for some contractor to setup and focused on the iscsi-target/initiator setup along with the multipath setup on m VM servers.
Maybe I will do a little write-up, once we get it all sorted out, since we do experience some strage behaviour of our storages boxes, while ASM hammers ob them quite hardly, but I suspect the raid controllers to blame and not the concept… ;)

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 - Can we use the foundation for intranet portal with high availability ( medium farm)

Today I had requirement, where we have to use the SharePoint Foundation 2013 (free version) to build an intranet portal ( basic announcement , calendar , department site , document management - only check-in check-out / Version).
Please help me regarding the license  and size limitations. ( I know the feature comparison of Standard / Enterprise) I just want to know only about the installation process and license.
6 Server - 2 App / 2 Web / 2 DB cluster ( so total license 6 windows OS license , 2 SQL Server license and Guess no sharepoint licenes)

    Thanks Trevor,
Is load balance service also comes in free license... So, in that case I can use SharePoint Foundation 2013 version for building a simple Intranet & DMS ( with limited functionality).  And for Workflow and content management we have to write code.
Windows Network Load Balancing (the NLB feature) is included as part of Windows Server and would offer high availability for traffic bound to the SharePoint servers. WNLB can only associate with up to 4 servers.
