License Hyperion

I am using EAS but I have un problem with the license. I can't create a new block storage application. I have this message : "License does not allow this data storage type. Please refer to the Essabse Documentation for valid settings". (error 1051105) In the properties of the application server, tab "Licence", the module "Block Storage" doesn't appear. Is-it normal ? Have you ever had this message ? Thank you for your help. Sandra

This has happened to me and I had to receive a new license from Hyperion. It was an error on their part. Even though you can't create, you should be able to do an application/database copy and then rename. That was my workaround until I got the new license.

Based on our web session your production BEA license has not been installed and your production server is limiting the number of unique connections to five clients. Those first five clients who connected to the system.
As we proved in the web session Internet Explorer gets a 403 error and Firefox shows the root cause of the five license issue.
You may verify this by looking at the license.bea file on your servers and you will see it is an evaluation license. Being a licensed Hyperion customer entitles your company to use a restricted use WebLogic in a non-clustered environment. Below is the proper license.
The fix for this is to do the following:
1) Download a license code from Oracle
2) Go to http://licensecodes.oracle.com/bea.html
3) Download LIC-WLXB92
4) On your server(s) backup <BEA_DIRECTORY>\license.bea
5) Copy text file within the LIC-WLXB92 over the license.bea file
6) Restart your Hyperion Services

Application server issue

We have around total 60 users and 20-25 concurrent users for Hyperion Planning and Budgeting. The customer doesn't want to buy the licenses for the application server weblogic or websphere, rather they want to go on live with Apache Tomcat. What problems we will face after going live like this.

With the purchase of BEA Oracle has granted a restricted use license of Weblogic for licensed Hyperion products.
If you look to use Weblogic Clustering to have highly available environments then you need to license Weblogic. If you are using a normal auto-deployed installation then you are licensed to use the Weblogic 9.2MP3 which is on the Oracle download pages for 11.1 and is compatible with 9.3.1

Very Urgent: Hyperion System 9 Planning license was encountered

Hi,
I am working on Planning Version 9.2X. On every weekend, Hyperion Planning and Essbase servers are scheduled to start. After that, all the services are being recycled as part of weekly maintenance. The next day, when I tried to login into Planning, I am experiencing below issue soon after the server restart. To overcome this, again I am stopping and starting all services. Please refer to the Below Error and its Server log.
Can you please help in fixing this issue permanantly.
And one more issue with other Planning Application: This application does not have this kind of problem, but it has strange issue. This application also goes under weekly maintenace and does not any problem with the login. But, If I won't login soon after the server and Services recycle, Business Rules that are scheduled to run won't start. I have to have login into Planning to make the Business Rules to run.
Please suggest me if I need to change any settings with in the planning properties to overcome these issues.

How does Oracle Hyperion system 9 Version 9.3.1 Licensing work? What controls or limits the number of users now hat there is no licence file needed?

You do. Oracle does not enforce the purchased license on any of their products programmatically -- they may request to come to your organization and perform an audit -- I believe the licensing agreement allows for this.
Basically as a business/it administrator/security function you should know the number of users you are licensed for and never exceed that and/or sync up with Oracle on a quarterly basis.

Additional licensing to transfer BW data into Hyperion Platform

Dear all,
I already posted a similar question in BI Forum some months ago, but I didn't receive any real answer...now I hope this might be the right place...
I know (as SAP says, at least till some year ago...) that "extracting data from SAP BW by any means requires additional licensing!".
Well, now we are in a software selection phase for a CPM tool and we are discussing about two options: SAP and Hyperion. This last one (and its sales people) <a href="http://www.hyperion.com/solutions/environment/sap.cfm">assure us</a> a no-cost integration between (the already existing) BW data and its BI platform, thanks to "a sophisticated engine that delivers high-performance extraction from SAP NetWeaver BI using SAP BAPI function calls".
Our SAP account manager (with the sales office support), on the contrary, asserts that additional licensing is required.
Where is the truth ?!

In my experiences with SAP and in particular to pricing and licensing, the final answer usually comes to the SAP account manager. They always have the pricing list with them. In regards to SAP, listen to the guy from SAP.

I have to install Hyperion Essbase Release 7.1.6.7 Server windows on window2003. Have been locking for the license file for this version on l"http://licensecodes.oracle.com/hyperion.html". However could not locate the file for the respective Essbase version. Can anyone kindly let me know from where can I download the license file.

Hyperion Planning Licenses

It may sound naive, but i wold be glad if anyone can help about Hyperion Licensing (i already went through EPM Licensing Guide 11.1.2):
My doubt is if a client has purchased 25 User license for Hyperion Planning does that mean i can create only 25 users in native directory , if yes what if i want to configure active directory If No, then where does this number 25 will put constraints.
Appreciate any help.

What i understand for now is if there 25 names user licenses , then at a given time i can have 25 provisioned users irrespective of number of native or AD users.
Will update if i get any more clarifications.

Its simple. Check your Output Type in SPAD. where in also check the printer driver name. printer drivers is named in the SAP system with unique four character
code, such as STN2.
The default will be SWIN: Windows (SAPlpd/SAPWIN). Compare your Dev System.

In Essbase propreties, the system is showing maximum planning users could be 65535.
what would be the number for concurrent scenario?

The number of users would be based on your license agreement with Oracle, the system is not aware of your license agreement so it is up to you to stick to it.

How to find licence for Hyperion Software

Hi,
I want "Essbase Application Manager" for one of my team member but somehow our desktop support team is not able to find this software in their catalog . I think name of the software may be changed.
I have same software on my desktop but it is inside "Hyperion Solutions" SOftware . Does anyone have any idea on my situatuin.
Is there any Hyperion product in which I can ""Essbase Application Manager" for my day to day work
Also I want to find licence for the Hyperion SOLutions software on my desktop. Can anyone tell me how I can find it ?

What version of Essbase are you running? I think Application Manager was decommissioned in Version 6 (although it might have been Version 7). It was replaced by Essbase Administration Services(EAS). Application Manager does not need a license as it is just an administrative tool for Essbase. For the license number again it depends on the version. Later version do not have a license number, earlier versions do. In some cases you can get it from App Manager by getting server properties and it will show you. In other versions, you would start Essbase in foreground and it will show you the license as it starts. Essbase 7.16, System 9.3.1 and Version 11 do not have licenses that you have to enter.

Hyperion Planning Classic vs. BPMA 9.3

Hi,
We are on Hyperion Planning 9.3 (including all latest patches). We are in the process of building a new Planning application. Currently we donot have an ETL tool and it doesnt seem we will get one for the next few months until our new Planning application is deployed into production. So in a nutshell we wont have an ETL to solve the below problem.
I have used Planning Classic along with an ETL tool to build my meta-data in past implementations, and havent had a chance to use BPMA. Lately I have started getting aquinted with BPMA and understand some of its advantages. However, I still have a few specific questions;
1. I know Planning Classic allows manual creation of members, does BPMA allow the same? Or does BPMA have to have flat file or interface table to create or add members? Our business users would be manually creating some members, or for instance change the start or end month of a 'Scenario'. So, does BPMA allow manual editing and pushing of meta-data?
2. If an application is created via BPMA, they would have to interface via BPMA and not Planning Classic anymore. Is that true?
3. I understand it is possible to convert a Planning Classic application into BPMA but "NOT" vice versa. Is this true?
4. Finally, a more difficult question, a more specific question which kinda of dictates the choice for us.
My client would like individual departments do their respective budgeting (noting unusual there). However, most of these departments budget per 'Project' and more specifically like to budget based on 'Project Name' (which are unique and not generic) as opposed to 'Project Numbers' (there isnt a Project number standardization as such yet). The challenge is getting the 'Project Names' into Hyperion Planning (sadly it doesnt exist in ERP/GL yet because these are new projects).
So, though the Finance Team ultimately approves each department's budget, they would like each department be able to create their respective 'Project Names' in Hyperion Planning. And Planning capabilities like supporting detail, etc wouldnt work as they would like variance based on 'Project Names' and be able to slice-n-dice based on 'Project Names'.
Now if we had an ETL tool the above would have been simple, I would have just created an automation to say pick-up a file with 'Project Names' from a pre-determined folder location. However, because we donot have an ETL, I was wondering if BPMA could do the same, i.e., automatically pick-up a file from a folder and create members and refresh Hyperion Planning? Could the 'Batch Processing' in BPMA handle this?

First of all I wouldn't recommend using EPMA until version 11, 9.3.1 was riddled with issues.
To try and answer some of your questions
1. You can manually maintain members in EPMA if you choose to do so, you need to push it down to planning/essbase if you do make changes.
2. If the planning app is in EPMA mode then you can't edit/add/delete member information through the classic route, you can view. You still can design forms, task lists etc through planning web.
3. It is possible but no you are not meant to.
Sounds like you could do with ODI it would make your life easier, are you sure you are not licensed to use it, you may be entitled to use it.
