License key question with regards to upgrading from 7/8.1 to 10

Hi, I hope I've posted my question in the right area of the forum:
I understand that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for Win7/Win8 users.
That's really wonderful but I was wondering what the exact mechanism with regards to our 7/8 license keys. Here's a couple examples to clarify my question:
first, example: I have Windows 7 Pro license and say I upgrade to 10 within the first year. Let's say I need to reinstall Windows after that first year is finished will I still be able to use that same license key I used to upgrade 7 to 10 to install a fresh
copy of Windows 10 or will I need to purchase a new license because the year is elapsed?
Here's another scenario. I upgrade to Windows 10 from 7 and after trying Windows 10 for while, I decide to uninstall 10 and go back to 7... because I'm crazy like that.... Will I be able to use my original Key for Windows 7 or is the upgrade a one way road:
where the 7 key turns into a Windows 10 key and can no longer be used to activate Windows 7?
Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Momashi
Here's another scenario. I upgrade to Windows 10 from 7 and after trying Windows 10 for while, I decide to uninstall 10 and go back to 7...
because I'm crazy like that.... Will I be able to use my original Key for Windows 7 or is the upgrade a one way road: where the 7 key turns into a Windows 10 key and can no longer be used to activate Windows 7?
If you Upgrade to Windows 10 and do not like it, for whatever reason.
Before you upgrade to Windows 10.
Create an image of windows 7 to an external HD and a recovery CD, using windows 7 Backup and Restore.
You can re-install windows 7 in the SAME SYSTEM using the recovery CD without using  a key.
Hope it helps
Where did you get your outlandish information about a Windows 7 key turning into a Windows 10 key?  Nothing in the past has ever happened like this before, so what makes you think it will happen with Windows 10?
My Windows ME did not turn into a Windows XP key!
My Windows XP key did not turn into a Windows Vista key!
My Windows Vista key did not turn into a Windows 7 key!
And so on!

When you are upgrading from 4.6C to ECC6
Nothing major, follow the same process you'd follow if you were updating PI service packs in R/3 or enhancing data sources. Empty queues in RSA7 and lbwq. Also empty setup tables through lbwg as the upgrade doesn't like it if these tables contain data. This is all on the R/3 side (although you empty RSA7 by running each delta TWICE in BW).
To transfer queues from lbwq to rsa7, execute jobs through LO cockpit (lbwe).
Some of your data sources could also be using sm13 instead of lbwq, so do check it out as well.
For installing ECC 6.0 you required a solution manager key. With out solution manager key you cannot install ECC6.0.
For ECC 6.0 is called net weaver component here you have ABAP+JAVA stack.
    ECC6.0 supports UNCODE.
For installing 4.6 you don't require solution manager key. It only having ABAP stack.
    4.6C supports NONUNICODE.
Major difference is ECC6 is netwear product having WASJAVA+ABAP
secondly support unicode apart from this we have other diff. you can get form master guide from service.sap.com/instguides.

  • License key problems with database copy

Hi all - we are refreshing ECC 6.0 QA/Test system with a database copy from our DR system that is replicated from production with MIMIX. Problem with license key is that in SLICENSE the system number is from the DR system, but the QA system should have a different system number. When I go out to OSS, the existing license doesn't work because system number doesn't match what is in system data for QA system.  We recently upgraded to ECC 6.0 from 4.6C and didn't have this problem before.
    TIA,
    -Margie

Hi again - finally figured it out, it's the difference between Old License and New License. We got an old license to install.
    Regards,

  • J2E License Key File With Changed System Number

    Hello,
During the last weeks, there had been some trouble according to the sneak preview licensing web site to get a new license key for special SAP systems like J2E, NSP etc.
In the meantime, I used especially for my J2E instance via visual admin the button "install subsequent temp license" with success.
Returning anew to the web site today, I saw that now we are able again to renew the license key for our trial systems and ordered successfully license keys for J2E and NSP instance.
Because both systems have got new system numbers, I deleted the expired license key for NSP via saplicense -delete. Then I installed regularly the given new license key with success.
After starting the J2E instance, I tried to delete the existing active license (see above) via installed licenses getting a message which let me stop my try to delete the license because I feared for to get trouble with the system afterwards.
The exact text of the warning trying to delete the existing active license sounds:
    DELETE J2EE-Engine_ADA License:
You are about to delete the license for the J2EE-Engine. This may lead to a shutdown of the running system. You will not be able to start the J2EE-Engine again without a valid license. Do you really want to proceed?
Trying to install the given license from file (via General), I got the informational message:
This system's system number is "xyz", but there is a license key for the system number "abc" in file path\J2E.txt. License key file path\J2E.txt doesn't contain any valid SAP license keys.
    License key(s) not completely installed.
    That was to be expected...
    So my questions are:
    1) What is to do when I want to implement the new given license key file which has another system number as the existing active one.
    2) How often can I use the possibility to prolong my active license via button "Install subsequent temp. license" in future without falling in trouble?
    Thank you for your answers.
    Regards
    Christian

Before deleting the J2EE engine license, check the "Installed Licenses" tab and verify that there is another J2EE-engine license with Validity "Valid" and within a satisfactory date range.  Only under this situation will I feel comfortable with removing the additional/expired licenses.
Your original message is a bit confusing ... let me see if I got it correctly.  You have been running your J2EE instance with temp licenses, because there was some issues w/ preview licensing on SAP's web site.  Now that you have finally received your preview license, you wish to install it.
But since then, your system number has changed.  Do you mean system ID?  Since your example used a 3 character ('xyz' vs 'abc').  I think the SID is what you mean.  Because changing system number will not require a new license, but changing the SID will.
So now you have the following.
    1. J2EE running on temp license with SID 'xyz'
    2. A new preview license for SID 'abc'
What you need to do is:
    1. Request from SAP preview license for the SID that matches your system 'xyz'.  OR, change the SID of your system from 'xyz' to 'abc', which is not recommended ...especially w/ AS-JAVA.
    2. Install the new preview licenses.
    3. Verify preview licenses are valid.
    4. I don't believe you have to remove the temp licenses, it's overwritten when you install the permanent preview licenses.

Edited by: Matt on Dec 15, 2008 5:03 PM - Made subject more informative

    Gentlemen:
    The problem around this statement:
    ASSIGN (w_field) TO <fs_field>
    is explained as follows:
    1. In ABAP language, there are two ways for assigning a new value to a field-symbol.
    - Sentence: ASSIGN (values) TO <my_field_symbol>.
In this case, the <my_field_symbol> receives from (w_field) the data type and value content of this variable. So, we keep that a FSymbol is assigned and, at the same time, receives an initial value.
    - Sentence: <my_field_symbol> = '/' or <my_field_symbol> = my_var.
In this way, we only pass the content of the variable next to = sign. But before this, the field-symbol must had been assigned (using ASSIGN statement), in another case, the compiler raises an exception.
Following the example of Federico... I think he tried to assign a field like this (please, supose the program imports the structure of a database table with a standard function, into a internal table which is looped by the work area w_field ):
    - If w_field contains 'BKPF-WERKS', so sentence ASSIGN will affect the field symbol, passing to this the data type and current content of table field BKPF-WERKS.
    - If w_field contains 'BKPF-.INCLUDE': *the column .INCLUDE obviously is not associated with a data type... so our statement ASSIGN... TO... never pass any data type or value to our field-symbol. So that, this field is never initialized properly, and when inmmediately you try to execute something like this: <my_field_symbol> = '/', the game (program) is over.. XD
I hope this post was helpful for anyone...

  • Just a bit confused in regards to upgrading from Logic 5 - to Logic 7

    Hey all...
So I was an avid Logic 5 user on an iBook G3... (or I had the "big box' of plat/gold - see how confused I am/was/is...?? HELP!!)
SOmething happened and I had to wipe my hard drive on the iBook, and the new system I put on was OSX 10.3.9, and then when I re-installed Logic(x?) it just plain wouldn't run.... crashed all the time and sometimes never launch the app. When I bought it, I got it at Guitar Center and this was when emagic owned it. I have an XSKey and all the registration for it. So right when I thought I was getting somewhere, emagic sells it to Apple... blessing, but bittersweet, because I can't get anyone at Apple to help me out, other than saying I have to get the new one - and they will not run on my current computer.
SO HERE IT IS; I have finally decided to ditch the iBook G3 and trump up to the basic G5 Tower, load it with at least 2GB's of RAM - and then I figured I could just buy the; Logic Pro 7 Upgrade from Logic Pro 6 or Logic Plat/Gold 5, 6 for $299.00 (and from what I have been reading on here also get the Logic Pro 7.2 Crossgrade for $49.00...)
IS THIS WHAT I NEED...? Like I said before I have all the stuff from the Logic (emagic) and know its one of the above mentioned needed for the upgrade!...? And will this then bump me to Logic 7 Pro - Not Logic Express.....?? And is this a good thing or......
I apologize for being so confused - but I'm so willing to get back into Logic that I'm actually buying new hardware, just to get back into producing!!
The guys at the Apple store are helpful - but all look cross-eyed when I begin asking Logic (or any Pro application) questions.......
    Thanks in advance all!!
    *jeffrey

The Big Box was Logic Silver (not Gold or Plat). That's a steeper upgrade.
If what you bought was the 'Production Kit' that included an a/62m interface, then you have Gold.
If what you truly have is Gold 5, you will get Logic PRO 7 for the $299. I don't know if that now includes 7.2 or if that's still an extra $49 (being that they're going to charge Shake users who paid 3k on it $49 while they drop the price to $500, I'd expect 7.2 to still cost ya).

  • OS Level and License Key Question?

Hi Everyone, new potential Apple user here.
I am going to buy 2 Apple G4 notepads for our children. I know they will not come with an OS so I my question is, is it like Windows where you have a license key on the bottom and you can use the same CD to install the OS on both machines and just use the License Key that comes with the Laptop or will have to buy 2 copies of the OS one for each machine?
Next question, is what is the highest level of OS I can go to?
Sorry if the questions seem a little dull.
    Thanks
    Martin.

Hey Martin and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
I am going to buy 2 Apple G4 notepads for our children.
It would help to know which model you're buying, especially the CPU speed since that will determine which OSs can be run.
.. like Windows where you have a license key on the bottom and you can use the same CD to install the OS on both machines and just use the License Key that comes with the Laptop or will have to buy 2 copies of the OS one for each machine?
There is no "license key" in Mac OS X land ;<). Get used to not having to type those ridiculously complex keys in at the 4 minute mark.
With the single user license you can officially load on one machine. With the family pack you can load up to 5.
<div class="jive-quote">Next question, is what is the highest level of OS I can go to?
In general all the G4 iBooks will run Leopard so 10.5.8 updated. The 12" 800 Ghz will run Tiger so 10.4.11 updated. That's official but the installer can be hacked to run in that machine.

  • Silent install application with varying license key (not with TS)

    Hi guys
I want to deploy an application through sccm 2012 r2 with a license key in the command line. So far no problem, with the paramater
ISX_SERIALNUMBER="XXX" I can handle that. So command line looks like:
    msiexec /i "XY.msi" ISX_SERIALNUMBER="XXX"
But here's the problem. That license key changes very often, usually a key can just be used for 2-3 installation. After that I get a new key which I have to use (we have no volume licensing... yes I know... do not ask...).
I tried to create a machine variable (device - properties - variables) with the license key. but I didn't manage to get the variable in the command line correctly. I tried
ISX_SERIALNUMBER="%variable%" but it didn't work. I realised that those variables just can be used with a TS. But I really don't want to use a TS for software deployments...
After that I thought I'll try to get the variable with powershell and it worked. But just with an Administrator account who has access to the server. If i run the script in system context while deploying, it fails...
Does anyone have another way to deploy Software with a Licence Key as a computer variable? Or any other way to specify a specific Licence key for a specific computer?
    thanks in advance
p.s. I know I could entering it manually... but that's not an option at this time.

I used the code in this link to achieve this in the past Worked very well.
    http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4853-deploying-software-with-unique-keys/
Basically you create a database to store your licences and it will update the fields to assign a computer object with the licence. Enter a column for Licences and one for Client. Set both to be type varchar(50) and allow for Null entries.

    That is pretty cool :)

  • License key question

I will be adding a viewing license key to our PROD server which is for 2 processors.  The sever actually has 4 processors.  Will this cause any problems during installation?  Will BOSE use just 2 processors of the 4?  Or do we need a 4 processor license?

    Hi refnbe,
Read the license terms carefully. If you have license for two processors and if you install software on a machine which is having 4 processors , then that means you are violating the license agreements , if im not wrong.
    Please contact sales person.

How do I obtain the license key for my Cisco ACS Server for Windows software v4.1?

For acs windows, there is no license key. You need to purchase the acs software.

  • Add license key to trial -- i.e. upgrade to full

I installed FB4 Pro trial as an Eclipse plug-in to my existing Eclipse install a few days ago.  My employer has since acquired a license key for me to use.  How do I tell my trial install the key and so turn off the time limit?  Help > Deactivate Flash Builder... is greyed out.
    Thanks.

Here are some steps to try:
    - with your copy of eclipse running, switch to using the Flash perspective
    - if that doesn't trigger the SN dialog automatically, quit and re-launch eclipse.
Sometimes you need to quit/relaunch eclipse once or twice before the activation dialog appears for FB4 Plug-in.

  • Where do you find your license key for software that I get from the cloud?

I am trying to upload some presets for lr 5 and I can't without the license key. Before when you bought tangible product this key would be on the back. However since I got it from the cloud, i don't know where to find it. Any help

You mean, LR is asking for it's own licence # when you try to upload some presets?
    It sounds strange to me...
Open LR, then from the software preferences, go to the "Presets" tab and click on the "Show Lightroom Presets folder...".
Copy and paste your preset there and restart LR... it should be do it.

  • New Build with Operating System upgrade from ME to XP

I am going to inbark on my first system build.  THe MSI K8N Neo4 Platinium is highly recommended.  I am not going to do a complete rebuild.  I am just going to keep my newest hardward from my old system.  My old processer a P3 933mhz along with moboard is at the core of my upgrade.  I noticed on the K8N page that the board does not support ME.  My old system (Gateway) shipped with ME for which I purchased the XP upgrade.  I understand that the XP upgrade disk has the full operating system on it and all I have to do is put the ME disk in when the XP disk asks for previous operating system.  Will this board be able to recognize the ME disk so that it will pass muster with the XP upgrade disk?

Thank you both for the prompt reply, what are your thoughts about the K8N Neo4 Platinium mobo? Is it as good as Tom's Hardware says it is? I am planning on intalling an AMD Athlon 64 3700 San Diego on it. I am not a real power gamer. I just want something that will antincipate the future. My current rig, P3 933mhz has lasted me for 5 years. Thanks
The MSI K8N NEO 4 Platinum is a very stable board, has a good range of features, is highly overclockable and is just great. I think mine is great so far and I suggest you buy a decent power supply with 22A - 24A minimum on the +12V rail to make sure it lasts and worls 100% correctly.

    Hi all
I have read next monday solaris 10 6/06 will be launched worldwide, including new and waited zfs v. 1.0.
I have been using my solaris 10_x86 1/06 for some time ago... and I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade my system (not re-installing it from zero) or even, install ZFS as install-alone packages??
Someone knows if it will be possible?
