License key won't "stick"

Hi, I'm administering a Contribute site for about 20 users. I
installed and licensed all of my authors' copies of 3.0 without
incident with one exception: one user's license key won't
"stick"--she's prompted for the license number every time she opens
Contribute. It lets her in each time, but it's obviously a pain for
her to have to do this every time. The only thing different about
her workstation that we can think of is that she has Adobe Acrobat,
and others don't. Would there be a conflict between Adobe software
license numbers? It's all I could think of...

Sien,
Virtually every time this question comes up, it's a matter of pilot error. You'll need the hyphens. Also make sure that you properly distinguish between zeros and O's, and ones and lower case L's. A hard-to-read typeface was chosen for the serial number on iWork '05. The zeros should have a dot in the center.
When you get it right, the submit button will be active.

  • License key won't work

Hey, how come the darn 'puter won't accept my iWork '05 license key? This is, I think, the 2nd computer I will have installed it on.... I just replaced my iBook.
It consists of five 4-character groups. I tried it with and without hyphens. The "submit" button remains grayed out, and if i hit return it says it's not a valid key.

  • XSAN1.1 License Keys won't work on 10.3.9

We have retail versions of XSAN1.1 and installed XSAN1.1 on a 10.3.9 Mac with the latest updates, and it will not accept the serial number...in fact it will not accept any serial number from a 1.1 package. We did the "XSAN reset" (deleted XSAN config files on the client) so as to remove any old information. We are operating a XSAN running under Tiger servers with XSAN 1.1 controllers and XSAN Admin 1.1. All our client computers are 10.3.9 (We will be upgrading gradually).
Please provide detailed instructions on what to do to fix this.
    Thanks,
    Cody

    Try using lower case letters.
If that doesn't work, call Apple and get new numbers. They gave me a set of 18 numbers that worked in 10.4, and not in 10.3.9. They issued new ones right there on the phone, but I had to push a little. Don't let them blow you off and tell you they'll get back to you.
    Good luck.

  • License Key Issues

    Hello Everyone--
The following is for my own personal computer. There has been so much going on that to save time, for both of us, I'll just list my situation in bullet point format and then ask the question
    at the end.
    * I bought a PC with an OEM copy of Windows XP
    * I bought an upgrade to Windows 7
    * The hard drive crashed
    * I restored my Windows 7 backup to the new disk
    * The registry got whacked
    * I did a repair with a Windows 7 full version (not upgrade version) because my upgrade media was bad
    * My license key won't work anymore --  spoke to Microsoft, 4 different phone transfers before they hung up on me--said the key was blocked
Q: If I buy a new full version of Windows 7, the same version I'm running now (W7 Pro 64-bit) will the new license key work on the current W7 I'm already running or is the key tied to the media?
I don't want to wipe my hard drive and install Windows XP and then Upgrade to W7 and have to go through all of the app installs again-- I would rather pay for a new license, but only if the
    new key will work.
    Merry Christmas!
    and thanks,
    Stephen Davis

    Hi,
You should check your current Windows version first, just use WINVER command.

  • XP Pro license key on sticker is not valid

    Hi,
I have a HP desktop machine with window XP Pro license sticker on it. System hard disk is not working anymore and i need to reinstall the xp pro on new hard disk.
I don't have any xp installation cd with me, i have tried the xp pro installation cd from my friend but it is not accepting the license key given on the sticker.
What are my options? I have heard that microsof can issue a new license key as long as motherboard has not been changed.

If you do not have the Original OS disc for that computer, you can`t do anything. Every license is keyed to the disc/computer it came with. If you had the disc, then you could call microsoft and ask them for a new License for free, so you could reinstall
on your computer or any computer. But only 1 OS license per computer, This is the only exception to the rule. Example: if my computer stopped working and had to get another computer, or replace the hard drive, I can use My existing XP OS from my original computer/harddrive,
in most cases the license wil not work, that`s why you have to call for a new license for your existing original Legal copy of XP, disc, and license.
So using your friends will not work. Unless you use his license, but that would render his computer usless.

  • My Windows 7 with InDesign CS6 crashed. I try to re-install, but it won't take my license key. What now?

My Windows 7 with InDesign CS6 crashed. I try to re-install, but it won't take my license key. What now?

Ned, thanks for pointing me towards chat sessions.
I am almost there now, thanks the chat advise.
This is was Adobe tells me: You have a volume license serial number. You need to login to www.licensing.adobe.com website and download the software and you can activate the software without any issue.
I did go there but came no further. Then Adobe said: I checked and see that your email address is not registered under the Licensing website. Please contact the administrator under whose email address the product was purchased to add you as a user and you will be able to login and download the product.
So it is now in the hands of our IT guy who purchased this serial license

  • Windows license key from sticker are unreadable

I was looking at the bottom of my T400 today, and I noticed that both the Windows Vista sticker that the machine came with and the Windows 7 sticker that contains the license keys are unreadable. It appears that the license keys have faded the same way that something printed on thermal paper (like an old school fax machine or a cash register receipt) fade over time or when exposed to heat.
Obviously I don't care about the Vista sticker as I upgraded for free to Windows 7. However, if something were ever to happen to the machine and I needed the license key (such as a reinstall) I'd like to know how to go about getting one.
I noticed on the T420 that the sticker is located in the battery compartment, and this sticker shows no signs of fading.
When asking for help, post your question in the forum. Remember to include your system type, model number and OS. Do not post your serial number.

It looks to me that the serials are printed using some sort of laser printer on top of preprinted sticker stock. The fused toner that forms the characters is prone to wear from abrasion such as when you slide the ThinkPad in and out of a sleeve. Print something that has a lot of black on standard paper using a laser printer. Fold the paper over the black and you'll see that the toner has cracked. I believe something similar happens with the stickers on the bottom of ThinkPads.
For the past several years, starting with T60 series, I've always put a layer of standard 3M office tape over the serials on the bottom of every ThinkPad. These serials include MTM, Windows, MAC addresses, etc. All of these serials are as readible today as they were when the ThinkPad was new. This also suggests it's an abrasive wear not thermal degradation issue.
I suspect the stickers got moved inside the battery compartment (or elsewhere like inside the SIM/SD compartment on TPT2) for this reason.

  • Created a working Windows To Go flashdrive but it won't accept my paid-for Windows 8 license key

I created a Windows To Go flash drive using 64-bit Windows 8.1. It boots and works perfectly except that I cannot activate it with the license key I got when I paid for Windows 8 last summer (I bought the digital download, ordered the
optional disc, and carefully recorded the license key Microsoft e-mailed me).
I noticed that the "build" of the Windows To Go flash drive states "Windows 8 PRO," not Windows 8 or 8.1. Did I screw up and not install the right version of Windows to the drive? Is Windows To Go only for the PRO version of Windows 8
and not the regular version? I only worked on this as an experiment to see if I could boot Windows 8 on our work PC's (which are sadly still running XP), and I am so close! Where did I go wrong?

Windows 8 PRO is Enterprise Edition? Official Windows to go only with Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise Edition. However, if you have no Enterprise Edition, you can try Aomei Partition Assistant and its new function "windows to go creator"

  • How Do I get a License key for Trial version from the App Store?

I downloaded a Trial version of Aperture 3.1.2 a few weeks ago from the App Store. I love it. Now I want to buy it, but, can't figure out how to get a license key from the App Store. When you start up Aperture Trial version, a 'nag' box comes up asking if you want to buy the application or continue using the trial version or Authorize (I guess that is what you would pick once you have the key). If I pick "Buy", the application opens Safari and takes me to the Apple online store, NOT the App store! At the Apple Store, you can buy the key for $199 or an upgrade from a previous version for $99. Whoopie! What is Apple thinking? The App store is selling Aperture for $79.99. I guess that means you don't get the box or written manuals (which I haven't used for any software in many years).
So how do I get a license key for the App Store version? Do I just Go to the App Store, pay the money, download and install the program over again. Then transfer my trial version library somehow? Then deinstall the trial version? I'd love to buy and use Aperture for $79.99, but, I'm not willing to pay $199 for it.  Apple has me confused.
    Anybody have a clue?

Thanks for the 1-800 call tip Allen.
P.S. I'm quite willing to put in the time and effort necessary to learn Aperture (or any other software I decide to use, "Pro" or not). I simply don't see the value in buying the box version when I'm pretty sure I won't be using any paper manuals.  I very comfortable using online help files, having done so as a professional numerical control programmer for many years in my work. For reference, I'm retired, on a limited income and will be using Aperture as a rank amateur photographer who could use a little more horsepower than iPhoto offers.
    I'll call Apple tomorrow.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro license key issue.

Why won't my Acrobat 9 Pro license key work on the install onto my new computer?

I have two days left on my "Trial version". From what I've read in the forums, reinstalling from a link has fixed this issue with other users. Can you send me one? (This is driving me crazier than normal)

  • Office mac keeps asking for license key with fusion drive

I'm posting this in case anyone else is having this trouble where Office for Mac 2011 keeps asking for the license key. I have a later 2013 iMac with Fusion drive and never have been able to use office on this computer without entering the key. In talking with Microsoft they removed office and all the files and reinstalled with no help. In speaking with Apple, they said there is a known issue with Microsoft Office and the Fusion drive and Microsoft is working on a patch. Evidently the fusion drive moves the files around and to Microsoft that looks like new hardware so it prompts for the key. Realy annoying! Microsoft

I'm a certified Apple consultant and I recently hit this issue at an installation. On seven iMacs with the Fusion drive, I deleted the "Thunderbolt Bridge" interface from the Network System Preference. We then rebooted the computers, entered the product key one more time, and so far, the problem has disappeared and survives subsequent rebootings.
Obviously, if you are frequently networking two Macs using Thunderbolt, this isn't a good long-term solution (though it is easily added back). However, it does appear to work. I have no sound theory as to why it works, except that Office might be interpreting the existence of that bridge as evidence that the software was copied onto a machine instead of properly installed. This is just a wild guess, though.
I have no idea if it will work for others, but hey, the forums are for throwing out these ideas and seeing if one of them sticks for most people. So...there it is.

  • License key for pre-installed 8

    Hello,
I went over the clean install guides found here, but it's not entirely clear to me if it's possible to install 8.1 without going through the pre-installed 8 and upgrading it.
First, I would need to get a vanilla 8.1 kit from a trusted source and make a USB pen drive out of it. I suppose I can get this from the web.
Second, it seems to me it will ask for a license key, but the Yoga 13 does not have a sticker anywhere. From other sources I understood it will activate automatically using the UEFI serial number. If that's true, is there no license key prompt during the install process?

    Hi,
as for the last two sentences, i wonder too. I really do.
Anyway, no matter whether thing like UEFI serial number exists, you can always attempt to extract serial number from a running Windows on your own using appropriate utils (search for it).
Windows 8.1 are known to have issues accepting Windows 8 serial number (or at least some of them, OEMs, non-retails?) during installation step. I am not sure what Microsoft intended by implementing such annoyance. Luckily Windows 8.1 can be installed using generic serial number (legal one from Microsoft, publicly known, search for it) and can be activated using your genuine Windows 8 (yes yes) or 8.1 serial number at a later point.
If by chance Windows installer is designed to pick up serial number from UEFI (i don't known, haven't experienced that so far), that would be indeed one less thing to worry about (if done right). Let us know if/how it worked for you.
As for the trusted source of Win 8.1 ISO - checksums of releases officially issued by Microsoft are available on internet. Just obtain an ISO from any source and make sure the checksum matches the desired official one. Then you're safe to go. Also if i am not mistaken you can download 8.1 upgrade wizard, run it on 8 and by following a specific procedure end up downloading corresponding 8.1 ISO right from Microsoft (search for it).

  • Need license key

Recently during BIOS upgrade my Windows 8.1 installation for Aspire E5-411G-P717 notebook was damaged and recovery would not be allowed because the windows install partition was blocked. So, I resorted to the only known way to recover by using GPARTED to delete the partitions and doing a fresh Win8.1 reinstall. Windows 8.1 now asks me to update the license key but the computer never came with a sticker with a license key. So, I'd like Acer's help with this. I contacted Acer outlet at Amazon (the seller) for help but they don't keep any such information.
So, I'm stuck - I paid for the win8.1 x64 license when I purchased my computer but now I don't have the license key to register the windows with Microsoft and use it fully because some Win8.1 features are only available after it's registered.
How can Acer help? I'm sure I'm not the first customer with this issue given that Acer has had BIOS upgrade issues (I've been following the forums on Acer) and Acer does not provide Win8.1 license info on a sticker like it used to be.
Thanks in advance for your help. I cna provide Serial# and any other details as well as proof of purchase if needed to track my device. I bought it 5 weeks back from Amazon with Acer outlet as the seller (my notebook was sold as refurbished).

No machine released with Windows 8 from vendor will come with a Windows 8 License sticker underneath, regardless of the brand. This is one of  Microsoft's security measures to reduce piracy. This is a new Microsoft initiative.  The Product key is electronically stored in the firmware of your mainboard. So if you need to reset or reinstall Windows 8, you don't need to hunt for the product key. It's automatically applied and activated. That's certainly a plus, especially when the numbers on those product key stickers wear out or are just too small to easily read.  You need to get the recovery media and restore the same OEM version of windows shipped wiht your computer to activate windows without product key.  Click the Kudos to say “Thanks” for helping! select "Accept Solution" if your issue is resovled.

  • ACS 4.2 license key location

I am installing ACS on another server but I do not have the original license key, is there a way to find the license from the old ACS.
The old ACS is not functioning, none of the services will start, I cannot use the web front end, so it would have to be something not through the ACS management interface.

Yup, that is right. ACS Windows doesn't require any kind of license/ serial number/ key. Once you have the ACS installation kit for windows, you simply need to install it on supported Microsoft platform, it won't ask for any key or license.
If services were running fine and not starting then you may check few things:
1.] Please ensure that ACS logging level is not set to FULL.
2.] You might have applied some latest windows update.
3.] Please ensure your ACS installation directory is exclusded from AV Scanning.
Csadmin is actually responsible for ACS GUI interface. If that's not running, we can access the ACS via web interface.
Have you tried reloading the server?

  • My shortcut keys on CS6 are gone. I get a message to reinstall CS6. I would rather not go through the hell of getting the license key for Adobe. Any options?

I get the message that my shortcut keys have gone missing.... And the message says to reinstall Photoshop CS6. I would rather burn my arms off than go through the hell of reinstall with Adobe's horrible licensing process. Please help me avoid this! I tried system restore on my Windows PC to no avail. Any solutions or downloads I might try?
    Thanks for any help.
    John

Not sure what you mean when you say "Adobe's horrible licensing process". If you have a valid license key code you type it in and you are done. The program, licensing system, checks that key against the online system and if it is valid and not installed on more than 2 computers at the same time you don't have to do anything else.
If the version of CS6 you are using is an Upgrade version then you will need to type in a valid license key from a qualified previous version. Again once that is done and it is checked against the online license system you are done.
As to your problem with the shortcut keys going away I "Think" that is a problem with your computer more than with Photoshop. Some how the file that holds the default and user edited keyboard shortcuts has become corrupted or you have somehow deleted it. If it became corrupted that is a Sure Sign you have a hardware problem. More than likely some type of hard drive problem, the drive might be on it's last legs, it is failing and will need to be replaced.
One thing I suggest you do from this point forward is make regular backups of your complete system. Like doing it every week if not more. That way when, NOT IF, you have similar problem you can restore your system from the most current backup. And if it is a hardware failure, like the drive going bad, you can restore your system to that state once the hardware problem is fixed.
If you do have a hardware problem, like the hard drive is dying, reinstalling PS won't stop it from happening again.
