License Management / Oracle Discoverer

In my last email I described our approach to analyse archives with
Oracle discoverer. In the actual state two questions arise for our
future work :
1.     Is there any possibility to integrate the functions of Discoverer
     in the own application by mean of an SDK or API.
2.     Is it possible to secure an Oracle Database with a license key
A question of more general interest is the usage of special characters that
are not supported for usage in the database fields.
Any hint would be helpful.

Sorry for answering late, but I had some problems with my login to otn.
Here is the specification of my last query :
1. I'm searching for possibilities to disable the usage of a specific Oracle Database for certain customers. e. g. we want to give him a trial version that exceeds after 30 days.
2. Regarding characters database records, that are not allowed : Is there a list, which provides DB developers with information about characters, that are not allowed with specific datatypes like "CHAR, VARCHAR, VARCHAR2, . . ."

Installation of Oracle Discoverer on Windows

Hi All
I need to install Oracle Discoverer Desktop on windows platform if any one has detail installation documentation of this please give me the link ASAP as i m never installed this discoverer on windows i m doing it first time i know how to install database on windows so please help me and also give me the link that shows hows it works also

Accept the license terms and click on Business Intelligence – Tools CD (for Microsoft Windows)
First, Discoverer checks for swap space, if you have an error saying swap space not enough, go to Control Panel-> System -> Advanced Tab -> Performance Options button
See available virtual memory. If it is less than 1535 MB, increase it by clicking on Change button
While installation, the installer prompts for new home, BIToolsHome_1. You can use the same name or change it, but this has to be a different home than Oracle home on your PC. Select ‘Custom’ installation type and from the Available Product Components, select ‘Oracle Discoverer Desktop’, also Administrator if you need it.
Should be good to go.

However, you may be disappointed because according to this matrix: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/as_certification_r2_101202.html it does not look like Server 2008 is a supported platform. I would ask Oracle Support to be sure or perhaps someone from Oracle reading this will advise.
When you get there you need to read the license agreement and then check and click the I Accept button to indicate that you understand and are willing to abide by the agreement.
Assuming you get the all clear, when you get to the main downloads page if you want the full application server you want the first row, if you want just Discoverer Plus / Viewer you want the row entitled Business Intelligence. You then look across the row for your operating system and then download all of the files that begin with CD. In your case because you are looking for the Microsoft Server version you need the software from the first column headed Microsoft Windows. Incidentally, if you need Discoverer Administrator and / or Desktop then it is also in the Microsoft Windows column and it is called Tools CD.
After you have installed Plus / Viewer (they both install at the same time) you version will be 10.1.2.0.2. This is the base version. You then need to log into MetaLink and download the 10.1.2.3 patch followed by the latest cumulative patch. Is it oracle discoverer for web version must be install with oracle AS?

Hard to answer a question like this without a lot of details like your version etc. In later versions of Discoverer there is a checkdiscoverer utility that helps resolve these types of issues. There are also version specific trouble shooting guides available thru Top Tech Docs / Knowledge Browser on Metalink.
If you can't resolve using the diagnostic doc, please log an SR / TAR with Support.

Database Aggregate Functions and Oracle Discoverer

There are a lot of aggregate function inside the database, unfortunatelly some of them are not directly accesible from Oracle Discoverer.
For example :
STATS_BINOMIAL_TEST
STATS_CROSSTAB
STATS_F_TEST
STATS_KS_TEST

STATS_MW_TEST
STATS_ONE_WAY_ANOVA
STATS_T_TEST_*
STATS_WSR_TEST
What is the best way to incorporate this kind of function in Oracle Discoverer ?

Oracle Express vs Oracle Discoverer

For publishing reports on the web, which product is better? Oracle Express or Oracle Discoverer? I understand Oracle Discoverer comes packaged with OracleAS. Do we need to purchase Oracle Express separately? What factors determine one product over the other?

Express Edition runs exactly the same PL/SQL and SQL engine as the big guys.

How can I plot four numeric values against the time period using three axes in oracle discoverer. e.g. If I want to plot unit cost, total cost, total sale, and total profit for a given period. I am using oracle discoverer 10.1.2.0.0

What is the one message you are trying to get your graph to convery? Personally, I think the key thing is to keep it simple, just because your data has many dimensions it does mean that you should overload users with information. I would stick to a simple dual aixs combo graph where total cost and total sales are shown as bars against Y1 and total profit is shown as a line against Y2.
You have total cost so adding unit cost is unlikely to provide additional information and it just adds clutter and confusion to your graph.
One graph type that might help provide a more powerful message is the bubble-chart which is used to perform quadrant analysis. We have provided a smalla rticl on the benefits of using bubble graphs on the BI Blog:

How is licensed the Oracle Service Bus? wasnt it part of the SOA Suite?

it is not clear for us how the oracle service bus is licensed, in terms that we thought it was included on the Oracle SOA Suite , we are referring to newer releases

3.2 Oracle Service Bus
Oracle Service Bus is a lightweight SOA integration platform, or "enterprise service bus". Oracle Service Bus includes Oracle SOA Suite Adapters (see Chapter 5, "Oracle Fusion Middleware Adapters").
Oracle Service Bus is licensed as an option to Oracle WebLogic Suite and is also included in Oracle SOA Suite for Oracle Middleware and Oracle Mobile Suite. Users running Oracle SOA Suite for Oracle Middleware on WebLogic Server Basic may not run Oracle Service Bus (see Section 3.5, "Oracle SOA Suite for Oracle Middleware and Oracle BPEL Process Manager Option Licensing with Oracle Internet Application Server").
Prerequisite: A license to Oracle WebLogic Suite is a prerequisite to license and use Oracle Service Bus.
