License Managing and Software Audit

Hi, I have been tasked with managing the license for a software audit. I'm currently using spice works license manager to manage all the software but i have no idea of what's need to be done to pass an audit.
Spice work lists all the software on the network, I was wondering if i need to track all the non-commercial software like "Windows Media Player" and "Itunes" or just the commercial ones like "Microsoft Package" which requires a license.
Thank you

  • Ideas for text based budget management and software

I'm looking for suggestions for text-based software or just basic scripts for tracking expenses.
For the last six months I've been recording my purchases in text files, one file for each month.
    An entry looks like this:
    01/01/2013,Schnucks,banana, groceries,1.00,cash
It works pretty well for recording info, no alternative system could be much faster than just adding a line to a text file.
Now that I've been recording data for about 6 months, I'm more interested in parsing through it to see what I'm spending in each month and in various categories. At the moment, I just run the files through grep and awk to get what I want. I'm contemplating writing a python program to let me filter and calculate totals and do whatever else comes to mind: importing credit card statements, generating graphs, etc. But at that point, I feel like I'm probably just re-inventing the wheel.
Does anybody want to share how they are handling a similar case?
I'm ok with changing my entry format, but I'm pretty attached to handling things as text files. I don't need anything more complex if it adds to the overhead of creating an entry.

Hey, I been doing something very similar!
Except it also will measure income, so I can know how much I have done/expend this month, week, etc.
I don't have it at hand atm, but I use : to separate the fields, and use slashes to escape it (like \:)
Yes, that is a DSV file.
I haven't dedicated time to work on it lately, but I was writing a perl script to do the calculations.
One idea I have is to create an additonal file for a list of expenses names, like this:
    milk-z:Milk brand Z:milk
    milk-y:Milk brand Y:milk
the first field is an unique code for the product, second field a description, and third field is a category.
That way I could see how much I have expend on milk, no matter the brand.
On the expenses file, an expense would be similar to this:
    2012-12-20:expense:milk-z:5.0
The first field has the date, in the format YYYY-MM-DD; that order is important to be able to sort the file if is necessary
Second field has "expense"; it could be "income" if it was an income
Third field is the product code - if its something I don't buy regulary, I could be only a name (like "new led tv" or something), if is an income, the reason behind the income.
And fourth field is just the amount of money.
Oh, I think I'll dedicate some time to the project again

  • My license manager won't open. Can I get a new lm somewhere?

My disconnected license has expired so I obtained a new one. I try to open NI license manager, and I keep getting this message box telling me it encountered an error and needs to close. Something is obviously corrupted. Where can I get an 'updated' license manager?

    Hi Farm Boy,
Can you add a screenshot of the error message?  As far as I know, you'll have to reinstall the software to reinstall the license manger.

  • Enterprise License Manager Sync Problem

    Hi.
I have CUCM 9.1 & Enterprise License Manager. I have installed licenses on Enterprise License Manager and in inventory added CUCM.
Everyting worked fine for 20 days, but from yesterday CUCM  is showing below error:-
"The system has not synchronized successfully with Enterprise License Manager for 7 days. If successful synchronization does not occur within the next 53 days, you will no longer be able to provision users and devices."
In Enterprise license manager CUCM status is "Registration Conflict". It also show :-"This product instance is already being managed by another Enterprise License Manager. Product Instances can only be managed by a single Enterprise License Manager. To manage the product instance with this Enterprise License Manager, delete it from this and the other Enterprise License Manager, and then add it to this one."
Also below message is displayed in Enterprise License Manager:-
"Enterprise License Manager is operating in demo mode. Install licenses to cover the licensing requirements of your product instances in order to avoid losing functionality in those products."
Please help to solve this problem.
    Regards,
    Andy

    Hi Neo,
I have never tried but recommended would be to go for maintenance window.
Further, the message posted says The system has not synchronized successfully with Enterprise License Manager for 7 days. If successful synchronization does not occur within the next 53 days, you will no longer be able to provision users and devices.
This means it can be done but why to take a chance.

  • License Manager Disconnection

    Hi all,
first of all congratulations for this great forum. I have Sap B1 version 2005 sp1 pl:12 and I am experimenting cuts with License Manager. I have no network problems and usually the clients connect without any problems but sometimes all of them get disconnected and I have to restart license manager. Once I do so all clients connect properly. Do you have any idea why I get disconnected?
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Regards.
    Ruben Hernandez

    Ruben,
Do you have an add-on that is getting disconnected or simply the Business One clients on user workstations that are getting disconnected?  Since SAP Business One 2005A and 2005A SP01 use a port number to connect to the License Manager and the default port it uses is 30000, I would check during the disconnect times that another application is not trying to use port 30000.  If, during the install of the License Manager, you changed the port for the LM to use to something other than 30000, again, verify that the LM is the only application using that port.  Other than that you may want to contact SAP Support.
Also, the forum you have posted your question in is for questions relating to the SAP Business One SDK.  The question you have posted may be in regards to the Business One application itself.  You should post non-SDK related questions in the SAP Business One Discussion Forum.

  • Get license manager's computer id with labview

hello, i want to get, with LabVIEW, the computer ID of the NI license manager (ActiveX?).

This thread saved us a lot of (further) heartache trying to generate a disconnected license! When I go to "NI License Manager" and click "Display Computer Information", the License Manager crashes. That command line utility was able to spit out my 16 digit ID and give us the info we needed to activate my dev suite.
In the future, if you are reading this... never hesitate to update old threads with helpful information!

  • "License" for Prime License Manager

I've just installed Prime License manager and it gets to Demo Mode by default. As per the user guide:
Demo mode in Cisco Prime License Manager refers to the fact that no license file has been installed yet.
During the first license file installation process, Cisco Prime License Manager is registered with the Cisco
licensing back office and is no longer in Demo mode. Product instances managed by Cisco Prime License
Manager are not in compliance as long as Cisco Prime License Manager is in Demo mode. Each product
type (for example, Unified CM, Unity Connection) has its own version of "demo mode" that operates
independently of Cisco Prime License Manager’s Demo mode.
The statement above doesn't seem clear to me. Does PLM require a "PLM" license for it to be fully usable, or does it merely need to add valid licenses for UC instances (CUCM, CUC) for PLM to upgrade from demo mode to fully usable.
    Thanks in advance,
    Charles

    Hi,
You mean to say that after you have installed permanent license and is still showing Demo Mode.
Can u try creating separate Product instance and then, check  ?

  • NI License manager does not start; says it's querying for current license status

I currently have the evaluation version of Labview. I tried to use a volume license from my university by typing in the server name in NI License Manager, but after that, whenever I try to open the license manager, it looks like it's stuck saying "querying for the current license status" and never actually opens. Also, when I try to open Labview, it freezes during the setup finalization. I realized afterward that students don't have access to the university license for their own PC's, so I can't use that volume license anyway.
I uninstalled everything having to do with NI on my PC and reinstalled the evaluation version of Labview, but the same problem still exists. Is there anything I could do besides erasing my hard drive?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi amize,
When you say the same problem still exists, is it both the NI License Manager and LabVIEW that are still having the issues? When you open the License Manager and it is not actually opening does that mean you cannot interact with it or the licenses never finish loading in the tree view on the left hand side. If you do have access to the Options menu, open preferences and make sure you have deselected "Use Volume License Servers". At some point, if the windows is not interactive, it should timeout with attempting to make its server connection, especially if you are disconnected from any network connection.
Also, how long do you wait when you open LabVIEW and see the setup screen? Does it just become unresponsive?
If you could follow up with that information it would be much appreciated

  • NI Volume License Server and IPv6 support?

Please, correct me if I am wrong and realy late with this.
I am quite sure that Volume License Management connection does not have IPv6 support. Meaning connection between client's License Manager and server's Volume License Service.
The support would be realy nice feature for companies using Microsoft DirectAccess to allow empployees to use companie's IT resources outside of company network with their work computer. In this case Volume License Server as a resource.
Yes, there are translators between IPv4 and IPv6, but native support is always the best. And IPv6 is not future technology it is current technology.
I know that there is 14 days product version specific Backup License in use if there is no connection to server. But this is not good when employee has several versions of LabVIEW and TestStand in use.
Another work a round would be a Home License generated to a employee's work computer, but that is not really nice.

    Hi JERei,
Thanks for the feedback. You are correct, VLM does not currently support IPv6. We are currently evaluating adding IPv6 support to our products, but we do not have a definite timeline. If IPv6 support is critical to your application, you should contact your sales representative to discuss your options.

Hi! I've got CS3 Design Standard - the actual disks and Software License certificate. It was installed on my laptop which crashed and could therefore not be uninstalled. I have now installed it on my new MacBook Pro, but cannot get it registered with the serial number. Is it because it wasn't uninstalled on the previous laptop? What to do now?? Thx!

Maybe this can help someone else...  I simply had to properly uninstall CS3 and reinstall it again after that.  I think that sorted it!  I also remember having a similar issue with Macs at work a couple of years back.  Not sure whether the same applies to CS5/CS6.  Here's a link on how to properly uninstall CS3 on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS.  I'm on OS X 10.9.2 but it worked just fine.  Remove Creative Suite 3 and CS3 products

I had been using Garageband and downloaded some 3rd  party apps which worked great, among them was BFD ECO.  I just upgraded my iMac to Yosemite and so I could upgrade to the Garageband 10.0.02. I contacted BFD who told me that the license manager can't connect to garageband because its being "sandboxed", due to changes in the new GB and to contact Apple for a work around. Are you looking for iPodService.exe?
Might be better to run services.msc from the run dialog and shut down the service polietly.

Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about Single Sign-On (SSO) with Cisco WebEx Meetings Server (Cisco WMS), Internet Reverse Proxy (IRP), and Enterprise License Manager (ELM) solutions.
SSO standards such as Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) 2.0 provide secure mechanisms for passing credentials and related information between different websites that have their own authorization and authentication systems. SSO enables simplified user authentication and management.
IRP provides public access, enabling users to host or attend meetings from the Internet and mobile devices. Although IRP is optional, Cisco encourages its use because it provides a better user experience for your mobile workforce.

  • Where is the server address and port stored that is configured in NI License Manager?

    Hi,
I am trying to configure a silent installation of LabView.  I have tried the specfile and put in the license code etc..  I cannot see a place there to configure a license server address.
I've run NI License Manager on a reference PC and have configured one there but how can I deploy that config to a number of PCs?  How is it stored and where is it stored?
    thanks
    Paul

    Last question (I promise)
If I dont have a volume license how do I determine what my 'package' or 'family' is?
    Package
    Syntax: nilmUtil.exe -activate "packagename version"
    Example: nilmUtil.exe -activate "LabVIEW_PDSM_PKG 8.0500"
    Family
    Syntax: nilmUtil.exe -family "family"
    Example: nilmUtil.exe -family "LabVIEW_ADE_080600"

  • Desktop manager and Desktop Software

Is there a differnce bewteen desktop manager and desktop software?  I'm trying to find  a link to download desktop manager.  I was told by t-mobile tech support to run application loader and I need desktop manager in order to run that application.  The reason why i need to run the application is that my firewall setting is enable with the 'lock' icon and it's preventing me from running applications that need to connect to the internet.  I was told that running application loader would remove the lock icon so I can disable the firewall setting.
    Thank you,
    New BB user.

OK...so those instructions are...well...dated...they indeed are for the full Desktop Software. Basically they have advised you to update your BB OS to the latest version in the hopes that the lock on the firewall will be removed. They did discuss the backup, but I actually prefer to take a manual backup first, then let the automatic one go, but I still have that manual one just in case.
I can't see what any of those jpg's are, so I'm not sure exactly what they are saying.
Anyway, there are other possible causes, but it's not necessarily wrong to follow those steps...it's just that they may or may not work...and before you ask, it's impossible to tell you, at an internet distance, anything at 100%.
If you prefer, here's a different method to update your OS:
From a PC, you can install any OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure. You will also first want a clean and complete list of all of your add-on apps, including the source of them and activation keys.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
