Licensing a Flex Application - How to?

Hello all,
I want my Flex application to have a license key so as to control the functionality available to the user. What options do i have available for this? Is there a open source framework or common approach to adding licensing infrastructure to a Flex app...
Thanks,
Ankur

In 2012 i'm also facing the same issue. Isn't there anyway i can create a licensing system for a flex application still?

  • Securely embedding a flex application in a J2ee application

    Hello,
    I was able to embed a Flex application with blazeDS running inside TOmcat with my existing webapplication. Note: I have configured blaze DS to run withing my existing web applicaiton lets call it "MyWebApp" by just mapping the messagebroker servlet in web.xml.
    Now, MyWebApp uses form based authentication. My flex app is just a part of one of the pages in MyWebApp. The user authenticates with MyWebApp.
    Question is: In my Flex application HOW DO I ENSURE THAT THE USER HAS logged in using MyWebApp.???..
    On the same lines, how do I secure the Remoting endpoints on the server?

    Hey Thanks for replying.
    My toomcat web.xml aslready has the auth-method set to 'Form'. So I d onot understand why should I define it again in the services-config.?.. I refered to the live docs but they do not explain how this will work
    Appreciate your help!!

  • How to show double byte data in a Flex application

    Hi
    I am looking for a way to show UTF-8 formatted data in a Flex
    application. I have a Java app in the backend that generates an xml
    file. Some attributes in the file are encoded in UTF-8 (when data
    is Japanese or Chinese...). My Flex app is showing box characters.
    I have XSLT app that generates html based off this xml file. The
    browser i showing the Japanese characters fine.
    I am wondering what the trick is to get Flex app show this
    data.
    Thanks
    Videoguy

    It turned out to be my XP that didn't have the the right lang
    sets installed. I have two PCs. On one everything showed up fine. I
    was able to view arabic, chinese data from xml just fine. On the
    other one, same swf didn't show them. There is MS knowledgebase
    article on how to enable east asian languages etc. I didn't give it
    a try. I am using other pc for my dev now.

  • How to display pdf file in flex application

    hi,
    I am Ibran, I am using Flex4.5, in that i want to display a pdf file like images.
    How can i do it please anyone tell me.
    I have used navigateToURL(url),but this was going into navigation and i can't see my textfield and buttons.
    So without this  navigateToURL(url) how can i display a pdf file in flex without navigation so that i can see my textInputs and buttons.

    Flash does not have the ability to load/display/manipulate PDF files, so you can't open it directly in the flex application.  With clever HTML and javascript, you can make it appear that it is in the same window, but it will actually be in a separate window/div in the browser.  And yes, this has always seemed absurd to me that Adobe doesn't support PDF's......

  • How to call setter Method of ActionScript class with in a Flex Application

    Hi
    I have Action class as shown :
    public class MyClass
    private var name:String
    public function get name():String {
        return _initialCount;
    public function set name(name:String):void {
        name = name;
    Now please let me know how can i access this Action class under my Flex Application and call the setter Method of it to set the value for the name .
    For example on entering some data in a TextInput and  click of a submit Button , on to the Event Listener , i want to call the set name method of my ActionScript class .
    Please share your ideas on this .

    Thanks  Gordon for your resonse .
    Say for example my Action class is like this :
    public class MyClass
    private var name:String
    public function get name():String {
        return name;
    public function set name(name:String):void {
        name = name;
    This is inside the MXML
    I know this way we can do it
    public var myclass:MyClass = new MyClass();
    myclass.name="Kiran";
    Now my query is can we do in this way also ??
    myclass.set name(SomeTextInput.text);
    Please share your views on this , waiting for your replies .
    Thanks in advance .

  • How to load a FLEX application in an AIR desktop application.

    I am creating an AIR desktop application (mx:WindowedApplication). I need to load another remote FLEX application (mx:Application) inside my AIR application.Is it possible ? If then ,please mention how to achieve this ..

    If it is bundled with the air app, then it's as easy as using the SWFLoader class.
    If it's loading from a remote host, you need to load it into your app as a ByteArray first.
    More info here: http://aaronhardy.com/flex/loading-a-remote-module-into-a-local-app/
    The example is for Modules, but the principal is the same I believe.

  • How can I tell if a sound is playing in Flex application?

    Hi All,
    Simple question but I can't seem to find an answer to. How can I tell if my Flex application is currently playing sounds from a SWF file?
    What I'm trying to do is load a SWF file dynamically into my Flex app. However, these SWF files have sounds in them and they don't seem to stop even after I unload the SWF files.
    I'm trying to get around this by stopping all sounds using the flash.media.SoundMixer.stopAll() but it's getting called too early, before the SWF files are fully loaded and rendered in the application.
    I searched around and it seems like many people are having issues with this. Maybe someone can help me find a solution.
    Thanks,
    Colin

    In player 10 you can use unloadAndStop()

  • How to read JBoss server 'app.properties' file in the deployed Flex application?

    Hi, my current Flex project is using LCDS server to make call (Remote object call and Data managements services' call) to the backend Java services and consume data to render. I have defined the AMF and RTMP channels in the services-config.xml file and destinations for the Java services' in the remoting-config.xml and data-management-config.xml files.
         <channel-definition id="my-amf" class="mx.messaging.channels.AMFChannel">
                <endpoint url="http://localhost:8080/eqcFlex/messagebroker/amf" class="flex.messaging.endpoints.AMFEndpoint"/>
                <properties>
                    <polling-enabled>false</polling-enabled>
                </properties>
         </channel-definition>
    As of now both the Flex application WAR file and Java services EAR files are depolyed on the JBoss server on my machine, therefore I can hardcode the endpoint URL as http://localhost:8080 in the services-config file and hit the Java services.
    But the requirement is that the Flex application WAR file needs to be deployed on JBoss servers deployed on different machines and hence the endpoint URL cann't be hardcoded in the services-config.xml file. Is there a way we can pick up the endpoint URL from the JBoss server's app.properties file so that we can dynamically create channels in Actionscript code and make call to the backend services with dynamic endpoint URL?

    But in Command prompt I found out that My properties file by name
    'cedrelay.properties' is not recognised by web.xml.My web.xml structure is
    How does web.xml "recognize" anything?
    You specify the properties file as an init parameter. Do you read it in the init method of the servlet? If so, what does the code look like for reading the properties file?
    You'll have better luck if you put that properties file in WEB-INF/classes and load it as a resource input stream from the CLASSPATH.

  • How to access internal table data from webdynpro to Flex application.

    Hi Connoisseur
    The data transfer from Abap WebDeypro to flex island works well. I followed , there is an example from Thomas Jung (by the way as always Great Work) and  Karthikeyan Venkatesan (Infosys) but this example covers simple type only.
    There is no example with complex types like arrayCollection which handle the transfer of data from flex to WebDynpro.
    i tried to do pass internal table value  to flex-datagrid.but its not work.
    i would like to know
    1.how to access internal table data from webdynpro to Flex application.
    2.how to pass the internal table to flex-datagrid.
    2.how to pass dynamically in ADOBE flex.
    3. how to do Flex is receiving the wd context data?
    4. how can we update WD context with FLEX data.
    Ple give me sample example and step by step procedure.

  • How to change Flex Application frame rate at runtime

    hello,
    i have Flex application that need to change the Frame Rate at
    runtime.
    when i am changing it by using the slider component, here the
    code:
    private function onChangeSlider(e:Event):void
    frameRate = sliderFR.value;
    trace(frameRate);
    <mx:HSlider id="sliderFR" x="452" y="765" width="378.2"
    minimum="1" maximum="50" liveDragging="true" snapInterval="1"
    value="25" change="onChangeSlider(event)"/>
    the value is changed, but the frame rate is not changed.
    when i insert the binding to the <Application> tag i
    got error on this one, because i can't bind there items for the
    application level.
    how can i change the Flex frame rate at runtime?

    i found the solution!
    in Flex application you have frameRate properties that
    doesn't work at runtime in the ActionScript code.
    if you have a video that you want to change the speed of it,
    you need to change the stage.frameRate (of all the Player itself).
    and there is a catch here. if you will try to change it right after
    the application will start (like in: creationComplete event) you
    will have a runtime error.
    what you need to do is, change the stage.frameRate value
    after the all application is started from a button or other event
    in the system.
    this is working grate for fast/slow FLV playing
    enjoy!

  • How to get full file path while uploading a file in flex Applications

    How to get full file path while uploading a file in flex applications.
    FileReference Object is giving file name and other details but not the actual path.
    Is there any workaround to to get the file path?.
    Thanks

    Why not ask in the Flex forum; it is more likely that someone over there knows.

  • How can we handle in flex application if the server is down?

    how can we handle in flex application if the server is down?

    You and me both.
    As ambiguous as the original question was, I think he was just asking how to handle a server exception and I would suggest generally just using a Alert.show("your specific message (eg.  The server is currently unavailable)") in the place where you handle the fault return from your service or http call.  I'm sure there are more complicated messaging frameworks or approaches, but that seems to be enough for my apps.

  • How to ensure that latest version of Flex application is loaded

    Hello experts
    I have a bit of dilemma here. I am working on application which is going to be used at various locations (globally).
    Level of technical knowledge of users varies quite a lot so do operating systems authorizations of the PCs they are working on (various companies with different level of security).
    At the moment I am facing issue where some users are still using older release of the Flex application even after refresh and deletion of temporary internet files.
    Is there any way to ensure (using some AS code or Flex project settings) that only latest versions of SWF files are loaded (not the one from buffer/cache)?
    Regards
    Michael

    BTW, I have added following line to the HTML template/wrapper:
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="CACHE-CONTROL" CONTENT="NO-CACHE">
    but it is still picking up older version of SWF file on certain PCs. It does read latest HTML (wrapper) file though. Seems that caching is only enabled for either certain file types or files exceeding certain size.
    I have decided to do something a bit daft (or cheeky, depends how you look at it) as temporary solution and rename 2 main files (main SWF and HTML) to something like:
    Application_name_ver_XYZ.*
    It can be done in couple of minutes after release build has been exported (no need to update project itself). That way I can fool browser so it will pick up latest version (since its different file with different name).
    Main application consists of 10+ modules and some of them are compiled into separate SWF files. I am loading them inside application using ModuleLoader component. I have set parameter cachePolicy to "off" as I am not going to rename all these modules each time I am releasing new version of application.
    The end result is that main application is refreshed but all modules that are being loaded are picked up from cache (old versions).
    So as a last resort I have decided to change folder name of my application. That way all the files (main app and modules) are considered as new files since location of all of them has changed. It is just a workaround, it does work but it carries certain risks. If user will use old link application will still load (older version) and then consequences can be catastrophic (even corruption of data).
    Has anyone experienced same issues?
    I know these are more browser/network issues but how do I deal with them. Some of these people cant ask IT for support (for various reasons). Is there anything else I can do to ensure that users across the board will use latest version of application?
    Regards
    Michael

  • How to deploy a Flex application (Server Type ColdFusion) to production

    I have built a flex application using Flash Builder 4.6.  It utilizes ColdFusion Flash Remoting for its data services.  When first setting up the data services I had to set a bunch of properties in the flex server section.  Which I am not sure are all correct but the app does run and connect to the data services.  They were:
    Application Server type: ColdFusion
    Use remote object access service
         ColdFusion flash remoting
    Server Location:
         Deployed to Java application server
         Web Root: v:\inetpub\testFlex
         Root URL: http://myDevServerIP/
         ColdFusion Was folder: v:\CF9\JRun4\servers\testFlex\cfusion.ear\cfusion.war
    My question is now when I'm ready to deploy to my production machine and load the app onto a tablet or other computer, obviously the Root URL will be different something like http://myLiveURL.com.  Is this the only thing I change?  Do I even change it here or is there some other location?  Any other things I need to change?
    Thanks!
    Your help is much appreciated!

    All the paths to CFCs are the same in my live production site.  Can you be more specific as to what you mean by "RemoteClass aliases in your AS Classes and CFCs (if any) are correct."?  How will the app know that the CFC is on http://myLiveSite.com instead of http://myDevSite.com?  The only line of code that I have noticed that points to a URL is the endpoint in a file called _Super_XXX.as.  And at the top of that file it says that the file is not meant for editting.
    To clarify...I see your app/code all exists on a server access via a web browser so I can understand that everything still works when deployed.  Mine is a mobile app so when I am developing and testing on my local computer the URL points to my local development machine.  However when I deploy it to a mobile device like a tablet and run the app, it needs to be able to access a cfc on a remote server via a different URL ie. my http://myLiveSite.com/myCFC.cfc instead of http://localhost/myCFC.cfc
    Thanks for your help!  I will now take a look at your thread.
