Licensing for Exchange

Hello,
I am Saw from Myanmar.
I would like to ask for CAL licensing in Exchange Server.
1Q..
In Window Server, for Eg: If we have 50 clients in our network that we should have 50CAL licenses.
Even though we don't like to license for 50, only we license 30 that we can still use 50 clients. This is in Window Server.
The CAL license in Window Server is just paper.
In Exchange Server, Can we use like Window Server?
We would like to license for 30 clients firstly as testing, but we will use client more the licenses we have.
Can we use like this?
After that we will license for all.
2Q..
I have Exchange Server with many user and mailbox now, but all are Pirate Version.
My AD and Domain are not in good condition. So we want to deploy New ExEnt Server + same previous mailboxes.
Can I migrate all mailboxes to new ExEnt Server?
Can I pls get any recommendation from you and which steps we should follow?
Best Rgds,
Saw

First you can start with 30 CAL license and try to add more user and buy as need.
Since your are running with pirate version it is better to introduce on more AD server and transfer the role it
and remove the AD which is not in good condition and then check if the your pirate version exchange server is running fine, once confirmed then install new exchange server ENT edition and then start moving the mailbox

  • Forefront protection 2010 for Exchange server - License Expiry.

    Hi All,
We have forefront protection 2010 for exchnage server installed on my exchange 2010 servers. I see the expiry date set on the forefront console is 31st Mar 2014.
as per the below KB article's:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2793998?wa=wsignin1.0
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee358857.aspx
the support to the product is available till 31st Dec 2015.
My question is: how to extend the license for the forefront on all my exchnage servers? Should i have to change my license agreement number in the console or should i retain the same and just
extend the dates till 31st Dec 2015.
Also, how can we ensure that the change is effective and no issues after 31st Mar 2014.
    Please help.
    Thanks -
    Sujit
    Thanks and Regards - Sujit

    Hi,
the problem here is that you can't buy FPE anymore so you can't extend the license.
It will work if you change the license number and the date, but that means that you run FPE without a valid license! You should contact your local Microsoft branch to make sure you are safe with this.

  • Exchanging Windows License for OS-X

If you read the Adobe Flex Upgrade FAQ you'll find a section
that seems to infer how easy it is to exchange your Windows License
    for a OSX license.
"Just call customer service to arrange for a new download and
    serial number" is the message.
    Right....
Below is my response to a Customer Service Representative
after spending over 2 hours trying to exchange my license. Now they
won't process my request because my current Signature on File isn't
legally binding for the Letter of Destruction I had to fill out and
    send in.
Good Luck for everyone else. Hopefully your experience goes
    better than mine
    Hi Kendall,
I'll happily do that, but the line about not being
able to help me because you lack my signature for
legal purposes is kind of stale. Our courts ruled that
a person electronic intent can suffice as long as it
can be proven to be willfully given.
Additionally, The Flex team really needs to update the
FAQ about contacting customer service and arranging
for a download to exchange your Windows license for a
OSX license. They make it sound so simple.
My experience so far has been anything but.
The first person in customer service didn't know how
to help me do this so they transferred me to sales to
see if they could help. They couldn't either so they
sent me back to customer service
The next person couldn't help either so they
transferred me to group/corporate licensing to inquire
about switching. They couldn't help me directly but
told me to recontact customer service and tell them I
wanted to return/destroy my current copy of flex which
should trigger their call center script to inquire if
I wanted to to transfer or reassign my license.
Finally located someone who could help me, they gave
me a case number and told me to search the Adobe
website for Letter of Discontinuation and to fill it
out and email it back in. "Be sure to include your
case number so they know we've authorized you to do
    this" was the warning.
Couldn't find the letter anywhere on the website so I
had to call back and get a representative who told me
to search for Letter of Destruction but to use "LOD"
since the former didn't seem to work. Once I did that
he told me to choose the 4th item display on your
search results because the search result title was
labled "Customer Service" which didn't really do a
good job of communicating "This is the Letter of
    Destruction you are looking for."
By the way he warned, it would likely take 2 weeks to
process the request so don't expect to be installing
Flex Builder 2 tomorrow. Instead plan on installing
the 30 day demo of Flex Builder and hopefully we can
get you a replacement serial number by then. No word
as to what happens if you don't and my development
    comes to a grinding halt.
None of this has been easy, nor convienent, and I've
got almost 2 hours of hold time just to get this far
only to be told I have to go find a fax machine and
send this in because my legal intent isn't clear to
    the fine folks at Adobe.
I left as a long time Microsoft developer to come to
Adobe Products because the bueacracy and indifference
of Microsoft became unbearable. (The first 15 years
wasn't so bad but the last 2 have been miserable.)
I'm really disappointed that something as seemingly
simple as arranging to get me a new serial number so I
can move to OSX from Windows has turned into such a
    time waster for me.
So I'll happily comply with your request, after all
you are calling the shots. Perhap you could consider
showing this email to your management team and ask
them to think if there might be a better way to get
    this done?
Something that closer matches what the FAQ pomises
would be nice because your ex-microsoft-new adobe
    customer is really frustrated.
    Regards,
    Larry

  • Expiration of "Subscription license of Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server"

We have "Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange
Server" running in the company. Now I face the expiration of "Subscription license of Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server".
    I learned from
http://blogs.technet.com/b/server-cloud/archive/2012/09/12/important-changes-to-forefront-product-roadmaps.aspx that "... products will continue to be supported through that date (12/31/2015) in order to provide with customers sufficient
time to move to alternative solutions". My concern is, that Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server does not know about that grace period.
    It claims:
Your Subscription license of Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server has expired. The product will continue to operate during the extended grace period
until 5/1/2013. Subsequently, scanner updates will be disabled and the product will operate with reduced functionality.
Is there a way to get a new license number? I called our software vendor, but Microsoft does not sell licenses anymore.
    Thank you for your assistance.

  • I have a license for CS6 and need to add another license. Am I still able to purchase one?

I have a license for Adobe CS6 for 6 designers. We may be hiring another designer in the next few months. I need to know if I am still able to purchase another license for CS6. I looked at the site and can't see where I would find that info and don't see where I can contact someone at Adobe to ask. Does someone know how I can find the info I am looking for?

As far as I know, you don't "add a license to your existing license" unless you have the special volume license plan... you buy a NEW license

  • Frorefront Protection for Exchange 2010 Version Number

    Afternoon Community
I am currently research and planning the upgrade of an MS Exchange 2010 Virtual Server. One of the steps requires the upgrade of Forefront Protection for Exchange to be updated to the latest Rollup (KB230203 - Rollup 5). Due to ongoing projects i am aware
that Forefront has never been upgraded by us.
A few weeks ago we noticed our license for the product was due to expire, so we extended the license until Dec 2015. I have noticed that the version number of Forefront is now showing as 11.0.727.0 (Forefront Protection 2010 w Rollup 4). We havent installed
any of the Rollup Hotfixes and i can find no trace of the install under control panel/programs and features.
    1. Has anyone recently updated their license and seen that it has changed their version number?
    2. How can i confirm that no Rollup Hotfix has been installed?
    3. If i go ahead and try to install KB2619883 (Rollup 4), will it cleanly install or will it fail as Forefront thinks the package is already at the correct level?
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Barry Fitzpatrick

    Hi,
Maybe you can check the Installed Updates in Programs and Features under Control Panel. In addition, if you have Windows PowerShell, you can use Get-Hotfix cmdlet to get the hotfixes that have been applied to the local computer.

  • Forefront for exchange 2010 - how long?

    Hi there.
    Read this article: http://blogs.technet.com/b/server-cloud/archive/2012/09/12/important-changes-to-forefront-product-roadmaps.aspx
    I would have additional question.
Our company is MS Gold Partner and we need to renew our yearly license every year around AUGUST.
We are thinking about changing our SPAM filter external gateway with exchange edge, but as we can see from that article, you Will be unable to renew it license after December 2015.
I know that Microsoft offers online Forefront protection but that is not option in our case because of data sensitivity. We need an answer how long we Will be able to get updates regarding forefront for exchange 2010 and be licensed ok?
I guess after 2015 december Forefront Exchange 2010 Will no longer recieve spam updates thru Windows update, right?
And also engines Will not be updated after that date?
Is this the correct view and understanding?
    with best regards
    bostjanc

    Hi Bostjanc,
    >>how long we Will be able to get updates regarding forefront for exchange 2010 and be licensed ok?
I think you must have seen the information below in that blog.
For current customers, Microsoft will continue to support the subscription through Dec.31, 2015. If customer subcriptions expire before Dec.31, 2015, and annot be renewed because the product is no longer offered, these products will continue to be supported
through that date in order to provided with customers sufficient time to move to alternative solutions.

  • Discontinuing Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange

    Hi
Microsoft is discontinuing any further releases of Forefont Protection 2010 for Exchange Server:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/server-cloud/archive/2012/09/12/important-changes-to-forefront-product-roadmaps.aspx
We have a lot of customers with on-premises Exchange Servers, to which we sold Forefont Protection 2010 for Exchange Server.
What is the alternative for that product, Forefront Online Protection?
What is the Scenario, if a customer don't want his mx record to point to Microsoft?
    Regards
    Peter

    Hi,
I'm sorry but yesterday I was working with a customer.
This is going to be a long post :-)
Exchange 2010 has no native antivirus/malware protection. This kind of protection is provided by Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange.
Those filters provide antispam protection therefore from this point of view I wouldn't consider them a replacement for Groupshield AV protection on Exchange 2010.
This is the fast answer :-)
Let's move to the longer one.
There are going to be a lot of assumptions because I don't know your environment at all and this is something which should be carefully planned and tailored based on your business needs.
    Assumptions:
You have an Exchange 2010 Organization
    There are no Edge servers
You are following the common scenario with an AV for Exchange (Groupshield) running on Hub and Mailbox servers, Postini for Inbound/Outbound traffic protection from AV and SPAM (MX record pointing to Postini) and an AV for Filesystem running on the Exchange
    servers
You are planning to move to Exchange 2013 in the future (let's say 6 months/1 year from now)
You are open to discuss a Microsoft-oriented solution without 3rd party software
We are not going to discuss licensing (we are lucky and someone else will decide for us :-))
We are not going to discuss the differences between Postini/Groupshield/Forefront/Exchange agents because I don't know them well enough to tell you something which would make sense and I'm still discussing if it was better the Commodore 64 or the Amiga
    (obviously Commodore 64)
We are looking for a solution which should cover as many scenarios as possible
Short-term objective: Achieve antivirus/antispam protection on Exchange 2010 and get rid of Groupshield (and may be of Postini with it)
Long-term objective: Migrate to 2013 and leverage the antimalware and antispam agents included in the product
    Act 1 - Short-term objective:
    Inbound/outbound traffic:
The antispam agents can be installed on an Exchange 2010 Hub server but the place where they should be used is the Edge server.
Solution 1: Replace Postini with 2 Exchange 2010 Edge servers (MX record pointing to the Edge servers). Antivirus protection will be provided by Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange (FPE) . Antispam protection by Exchange 2010 and FPE (which expands the antispam
    capabilities of Exchange 2010)
Solution 2: Replace Postini with Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE)
    Internal traffic:
Solution: FPE will replace Groupshield on the Hub servers. No antispam agents installed. FPE will be installed as a Transport Agent
Database Content (aka all that stuff that doesn't pass through transport):
Not all Exchange data are passing through the Hub transport (i.e. Drafts, Calendar, Contacts, Public Folders, etc...)
Solution 1: FPE will replace Groupshield on the Mailbox servers. FPE will leverage the Virus API (VSAPI) to access the content of the Store
Solution 2: The AV installed on your clients has an Outlook plug-in which scans the content of the store client-side
This should provide enough AV/antispam protection and you will have an homogeneous solution where all components are able to interact smoothly (Outlook Junk Mail, Antispam agents, safe senders, safe recipients, etc...) without much effort in terms of 3rd
party plug-ins, different administration consoles, different places where you have to check if the message has been blocked.
I know what is going to be the fate of Forefront but this is to meet our short-term/immediate objectives. From now on we will have until December 2015 to plan our migration to Exchange 2013.
The screen fades to black. Voice-over announces that you migrated to Exchange 2013 :-)
    Act 2 - Long-term objective:
    Inbound/Outbound traffic:
Solution 1: Leverage the AV and antispam agents on your published MBX/CAS servers
    Solution 2: Use FOPE
    Internal Traffic:
Solution: Leverage the AV agent on your MBX/CAS servers
    Database content:
In Exchange 2013 the VSAPI is dead. Any AV for Exchange will have to use transport agents on Exchange 2013. The only possible exceptions is using Web Services for the On-demand scan of a limited number of mailboxes.
Solution: The AV installed on your clients has an Outlook plug-in which scans the content of the store client-side
The screen fades to black. Credits.
There are a few considerations related to these design changes which demonstrates that IMHO they are a good choice but they would be too long to discuss in this post and they would probably be OT. I'm thinking to write a blog when I'll have some time.
IMPORTANT: These are just my 2 pence. You should discuss this with someone which knows your infrastructure. The above solutions are at best incomplete because there a lot more factors which come into play when choosing a design like this.
My personal advice is to involve your TAM (if you have one) and work with my colleagues to find the solution best suited for your company.
    Bye

  • Renewal of Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server until EOL

    Hello,
We have a Open Value subscription for Forefront Protection for Exchange Server 2010 (FPE) running with an Exchange 2007 server and an Edge Server.  We attempted to renew the subscription to FPE and were automatically upgraded to FOPE and now EOP.
Since FPE is not End of Life yet, might it be possible to renew FPE on premises until such time as the product goes End of Life?
    thank you,
    Dan

    Hello,
FPE on premises was available only as a subscription license in OV, OVS. for subscription products thre is not possibility to renew th elicensing if is removed from product list.
you can purchase FOPE(in OVS) or EOP as online subscription. you can use also EOP for on premises Exchnage Server.
on Microsoft document we have th efollowing info:
The following are the primary ways you can use EOP for messaging protection:
In a standalone scenario   EOP provides cloud-based email protection for your "on-premises Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 environment, legacy Exchange Server versions,
or for any other on-premises SMTP email solution."
As a part of Microsoft Exchange Online   By default, EOP protects Microsoft Exchange Online cloud-hosted mailboxes.
In a hybrid deployment   EOP can be configured to protect your messaging environment and control mail routing when you have a mix of on-premises and cloud mailboxes.
note: EOP replaces Microsoft Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE). All FOPE customers will be transitioned to EOP, as described in the
Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE) transition center. EOP delivers the protection and control provided by FOPE, and also includes additional features.
What's new in Exchange Online Protection describes some of these features.

  • Best practice - which server OS should I use for Exchange 2010 install

We currently have 2 exchange 2007 boxes running Server 2003. the plan is to upgrade to exchange 2010 (I'd prefer 2013 but the powers that be want 2010), and I have been asked to follow Microsoft best practice. The problem is I can't find anything to point
me in the direction of the recommended server OS, I can find ones it will work on but nothing to say Microsoft recommend this...
We have licenses for Server 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012 available, which one should I advise is the Microsoft recommendation?

    Thanks Andy,
So is there no actual best practice recommendation for a server OS to run Exchange 2010 on? I agree that 2012 would be the one to go for, but the people making the decision on how we do this want reasons, and as they don't really have a lot of technical
understanding I need to be able to go to them with "Use Server 20xx because it's Microsoft best practice".
If there isn't a best practice recommendation I will try the longer support life and more options for high availability with 2012.
Well, you probably wont find a "best practice" as much as a "its supported" stance from Micorosoft.
As in all these things, there may be other reasons a business chooses to use 2008 over 2012 etc...

The fact that if you use 1280 it allows successful calls suggests your line is set as CPS , carrier pre select, if this has just happened it suggests a CPS provider has taken your 'line' for calls if not for line rental, but it's not properly set up otherwise calls would terminate it would just be billed by the mystery CPS provider
Have you had any approach by company's that sell this product ?, sometimes ISP's who's product includes calls can use CPS, if not, and you haven't been 'slammed' you need BT to set your line as non CPS , so BT handle your calls automatically without using 1280
This should be easy to get done, but the drones that answer the calls probably won't have a clue, hence the 'it must be your handset' nonsense they come up with, report the line faulty, don't accept an appointment, and insist they sent the problem to what was once called BT Operate, they look after the telephone exchange equipment and it's 'data',
