Licensing for mass deployment

I'm using a number of Mac minis to run kiosks and would like to have just one monolithic disk image that I distribute to all of them, for ease of administration. But how do I manage the OS-X licensing in this situation? I shouldn't have to buy any additional volume licenses since each machine came with it's own licensed copy of OS-X, but what will happen if I put the same copy on all the machines?

Hi
The Disk you use is specific to the hardware amongst other things. As long as you have disks for the rest (which you clearly will) then any one of those Installer disks can be used to create a NetInstall and/or NetBoot nbi. Assuming you're using OSX Server's NetBoot Services?
Alternatively and again if you're using NetBoot Services, you can build one workstation with all desired settings and applications, 'sys prep' it by removing the workstations local computer name and again create a NetRestore and or NetBoot nbi.
I've built a number of 'Kiosk' type environments this way (Primary Schools, Libraries etc) with no issues regarding OS licensing. You're only problem if you decide to go the NetBoot route is if the network bandwidth is capable of handling the workstations you're planning to deploy? If you don't already have it Gigabit IMO should be standard to desktop.

  • Installing CS3 (Volume License) for mass deployment via NetInstall (via OS X Server)

    Hello.
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience using CS3 (volume license) for mass deployment? We used to manually install on machines, but as the size of the organization has grown, this has become more and more inconvenient. This summer we're planning on a complete upgrade to all systems and during this process we're doing HD formatting and clean installations of all systems and software. To make this process more efficient (as all systems are set up the same way) we're now looking into using OS X 10.5 Server, NetInstall and a cloned system image for deployment to all machines. My question is, is there anything relating to CS3 that may cause issues with this process? Does CS3 installation bind itself to the hardware it was installed on? Since we are using a volume license, I don't have to worry about individual serial numbers and activating the system with Adobe, but again, I'm unsure if installations are somehow tied into the hardware they were installed on? Ideally, I'd install CS3 onto the "master" system and run all updates prior to making the final system image. Has anyone that's done this using CS3 provide any information that may help me out?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

    kristin,
No one is withholding a reply from you because you're using CS3. It is just that no one who may know the answer has wandered by. The folks who help here are Adobe product users, like you.
    >This summer we're planning on a complete upgrade to all systems and during this process we're doing HD formatting and clean installations of all systems and software.
My only point was that you will be spending a lot of time and effort on a setup that is centered around older, discontinued software. And my thinking is that if you are going to the time and expense of revamping your office, why not do it right and include CS4? If you install CS3 now, when you do decide to upgrade to CS4, you will be giving yourself a lot of extra work. From my point of view, the added software cost would be a good investment
during the current systems overhaul. Otherwise, it just isn't a "complete upgrade". You're installing '07 parts on the '09 Mercedes.

  • Addon 9.x licenses for existing deployment

Can anyone please throw some light on Addon licenses that we need to pick for existing deployment.
Scenario: I want to migrate 1000 DLU's to 9.x for which i will pick 'LIC-CUCM-9X-ENH-B' under R-UCL-UCM-LIC-K9 bundle and I need additional 300 enhanced plus users. Do I need to pick the same bundle twice - since Cisco does not allow me to select both migration skus and addon skus under the bundle 'R-UCL-UCM-LIC-K9' at one instance.
I remember earlier we had 'CUCM-USR-LIC-ADD' bundle for 8.5/8.6 where we can select addon users - do we have any such bundle for 9.x.

    Hiya,
You should indeed use the R-UCL-UCM-LIC-K9 code again for the add-on users. Below BoM for 10 addtional users based on UCL enhanced.

  • How to download CC apps once for mass deployment offline? [was: Download]

    HI!
We are facing a mass installation of Adobe CC for all our students. In order to reduce the bandwidth used we are looking at a way download CC once and distribute it to our students laptops.
Where can we download CC and in what way can we deploy it to a multitude of workstations?

Please refer to: Creative Cloud Help | Packager
It should resolve your issue about CC.

  • Muse Serialization for Mass Deployment

I am trying to install Muse on a Mac that will be the gold image for student computers. I created a package with license in CC Packager, then installed the pkg from the Build folder.
I installed exceptions by running the command with ExceptionDeployer. Exit code 0
When I ran tried to activate with:
    sudo ./adobe_prtk --tool=VolumeSerialize --generate --serial=xxxxxxx --leid=Muse-1.0-Mac-GM
I get exit code 14, so perhaps it's not needed as the package has the key. I open the application. It seems to work fine for the admin account. However, when I open it with another, I only get the option to buy or use Muse in Trial mode.
I am also worried how this will work when the image is deployed to other computers.
    What am I missing out?
    Thanks!

    Hi JoannaM,
As we discussed over the phone we were able to create prov.xml after excluding leid and able to register thr product successfully.

  • Unable to create a disk image for mass deployment or to restore on other

I am attempting to create a master 10.5 Leopard image that can be deployed to other Macs, but the restore process fails with the following error:
*Restore Failure. Could not find any scan information. The source image needs to be imagedscanned/scanned for restore.*
I setup the master as I want it. I've booted from another drive and used Disk Utility to create a new image from Folder. (If I try to create a new image from drive, I get an error that the disk is in use.) I've run the checksum. I've run the scan image for restore. All process with out any errors.
The error mentioned above occurs when I try to restore the image to another computer.
Has anyone else been able to make a master image for deployment without using Leopard Server?

    Hello,
I am also getting a similar error, but not trying to create an image, but rather reading one I created before upgrading to Leopard. I was having some HD trouble (power surge during install of Quicktime 7.3) that put my HD in any unstable state (resistant to Disk Utility/Disk Warrior,) but fortunately, I'd cloned the HD w/ SuperDuper (anticipating possible trouble during the upgrade.) I then made a disk image of the BOOTCAMP partition on another drive. Now, after re-formatting the HD, installing Leopard and partitioning for Bootcamp, I am unable to scan the image before restoring the disk image to the HD. It might be a FAT32 thing, but I don't think so.
The error is: Unable to scan "disk0s3.dmg". (Invalid argument)
    The disk utility log is:
    2007-11-08 20:33:43 +0100: Scanning image “disk0s3.dmg”

  • Run-time License for Vision builder

    HI
I have created a VBAI file for my inspection in, but now I want to transfer the inspection LabVIEW and build an exe to run the application.
Now for running that application do I require a NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection Run-Time License or a NI Vision Development Module Run-Time License.
    Thanks,
    Ninad Regundwar
    Junior Engineer | ARAV Technologies | www.aravtech.com

Instead of migrating to LabVIEW, you might want to consider automating Vision Builder from LabVIEW and running your inspection by using the VBAI API.
Check out the examples located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Vision Builder AI 2013\API Examples\LabVIEW Examples.
The VBAI API allows to start a VBAI engine, open and run an inspection and retrieve images and results for each step.
When using this method, if you're running the LabVIEW program on the same machine VBAI is installed, you do not need to purchase the VBAI runtime, neither the Vision Development Module Runtime (unless you wish to process further the image returned by VBAI.
If you need to deploy that LabVIEW application on a different machine, then you'll need to purchase a VBAI Runtime license.
If you choose instead to migrate the inspection to LabVIEW, then you will need to purchase a full license of Vision Development module for your development machine (the code generated uses Vision Development Module VIs).
If you choose to build the resulting code into a LabVIEW application and deploy it on a different machine, you will need a Vision Development Module Runtime License for the deployment machine (but not a VBAI license).
Migrating the code to LabVIEW is recommended only in cases where you need to modify the code generated by VBAI. The code generated is indeed a lot more complex than using the VBAI API that I described in the first option.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Christophe

  • How to mass deploy Windows InTune client software with GPO

I have been looking for mass deploy Windows InTune client software. The only option that I had was with GPO. As we know the exe is not possible to deploy with GPO. Ok, we can play arouund with ZAP files or tranform exe to msi. In my opinion this is
rather »walk-around« the »enginering aproach. So, how can we mass deploy InTune client with GPO. We need to extract the msi from exe. The command is »Windows_Intune_Setup.exe /Extract <destination-directory> ». The command extracts exe to x86 and x64
client msi install. Then we can deploy throw GPO. The »WindowsIntune.accountcert« file must be in the same folder share as described in document http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj676611.aspx.
I have tested the deployment, and works good.

  • Mass deployment of Archlinux idea

Hello all, I had kind of an epiphany recently.  I know that pacman is underway with becoming a library.  Most people have been looking at this as only a potential for a GUI app, which I think is definitely a cool idea.  The epiphany that I had is since pacman will be a library, how much more work would it take to create another piece of software to tie this library into a webmin module.  I think it would be fairly easy.  One other idea I had was creating another simple piece of software that would use the pacman library to install Archlinux on a large number of machines.  You could have one head node, then all the other computers connected to the head node.  This way you can run a monitored, automated script to install all the needed software on a lot of computers.  An example would be installing linux in a computer lab.  My university, Florida Tech, is updating their computer labs from fedora core 2 to gentoo.   All the computers in the lab are exactly the same in hardware configuration.  Adding functionality for mass deployment would definitely cut down on installation time.  Also, I'm not trying to push this issue hard, just as an idea.  Whenever Archlinux becomes ready for mass deployment on machines, we could revisit this idea/issue.  What do you guys think of this idea?

Hello all, more discussion is ensuing I see.  I didn't think that the discussion would continue on this long.  cactus, I see you are stirring up quite a few questions.  I will try to answer them as best I can.
    cactus wrote:??
I don't get that feeling at all. Please elucidate further.
As for your first question, on why I get the impression people don't want to see Archlinux take off toward a more bussiness/formal world, what I meant by that question is seeing Arch moving into something like Suse linux.  I was seeing it becoming a GUI linux distro that was simple in design and comparing that view with the view of other Arch users.  On the website homepage, it mentions that Arch is more of a veteran distro, not for newbs.  I just picked up the overall feeling that the Arch users didn't want to see Arch turn into something like Suse.
cactus wrote:I don't see a need for this at all. You speak loosely of forking, when you should be speaking of customization. It would be very easy to use arch in a business sense, with just setting up your own repository, and only pushing updates out to that repository when they have been more fully tested. No need to do anything different really.
As for the second question, if Archlinux was going to trully succeed successfully in the business market, if it does later decide to move into the business world, it has to have rock hard, well-tested software.  A stable branch, and I really mean STABLE branch would have to be formed, or an offshoot project could be formed that works off of Archlinux leaving the traditional Archlinux project the way it is.  I have a few friends here at school that can just about break ANY piece of software out there easily, whether it be microsoft, linux/open source, SysV Unix/Solaris, or even BSD.  The software being distributed would have to be EXTENSIVELY tested, which is a very difficult and time consuming task to do.
cactus wrote:Once again, I think it is very premature to speak of forking. See answer to above.
As for the answer to the fourth question, I believe it is related enough to the third answer to be answered there.
cactus wrote:To be honest, why present an idea if you don't really care about it. Stand behind what you think about something, but be open to other ideas too. I never liked the "just saying this to be saying this" type thing. Always seemed like a bit of a cop-out to me..in case of flamage, you can always fall back on "I was just saying it to say it!"..
The reason I throw ideas out that I may not be passionate or interested in is because somebody else might.  Somebody else may like the idea and want to run with it.  Also, productive discussion on many different issues like this develop.  Even though this particular discussion may not be relavent for Archlinux yet, it may be very pertinent in the future.  Lastly, one of the first things I learned here at college is that you never throw a reasonably sound idea out, even if you are not into it, because many times the idea may evolve into something separate that is VERY interesting to you.
On a separate note, I want to say that I am very happy with the everyones input.  This discussion has been most definitely productive.  I hope nobody feels that I am trying to push Archlinux in any given direction, like into the business world.  I am COMPLETELY satisfied with what Archlinux has provided and am very excited to see what it will offer in the future.  Again I threw the idea out into the forum not because I was particularly interested in it myself, but wanted to share the idea with the community, upholding the open source philosophy, and seeing if anyone else might want to do something with the idea.  It is also fun to take a step back and look at how the discussion developed over time.  Good day to you all and take care.

  • Mass deployment of Oracle client

What methods are available for mass deployment of the Oracle 9i client runtime? I mean for 100+ PCs at a time. Is there an Oracle-based solution?
My company's preferred method for application deployment is Microsoft SMS 2003. I have tried using two methods so far:
    1) Creating an MSI file by using InstallShield AdminStudio and the snapshot process. Then deploy the MSI file with SMS 2003.This only worked on a minority of target PCs. Perhaps I just did it wrong!
    2) Creating an Oracle RSP response file for the Oracle Universal Installer and then attempting to get SMS to deploy the whole bundle. I could get the silent install working fine if I manually ran it on individual PCs whilst logged in as an admin, but getting it to deploy with SMS was hopeless.
Has anybody produced a detailed guide on how to mass deploy the client? Or even just some basic tips?!
    Any help much appreciated.

MSI files are executed with MSIExec.exe and it comes with a few switches depending on the version. You can check out these links for the respective versions and switches. If you have successfully created .MSI with AdminStudio, you could try these.

There are syntax for the NT4 version too which I can't seem to place at the moment. This should be able to force an installation even if it's been installed previously.
    Good luck.

    Hello, there.
Can anybody tell me whether I can or not upload Java TV 1.1.1 sources (and recompiled classes) to Maven Central Repository?

    1. Download JavaTV 1.1.1 Source distribution.
    2. Make an artifact only contains javax.tv.* and javax.media as JSR-927 specified.
    3. Deploy it to the Maven Central Repository.
    4. Use it for compilation.
    I swear I won't touch anything.

    Hello,
I'm trying to run the samples wich came with the
reference implementation 1.1_01 of the Java TV,but
I'm a bit confused, the media.TestMedia cant runon
    my machine.
I try to run with normal java (jdk 1.5) and usingthe
    all new CDC toolkit emulator,
with both I can run the SvcDispXlet , but neitherrun
the TestMedia, that should play an .mov video, if
someone interest in helping me, I can send all the
information, perhaps we can open a topic just for
    this...
    Some questions...:
1 - Anyone run this samples?
2 - There are any other way of run Java TV Xlet,
except using XletView ( I will make applicationsfor
ISDB-T and will NOT use MHP at all...) ??????
3 - There are a complete (final) version of theJava
    TV implementation(non-free its good too)?

  • How can I procure a TLP license for the French version of Adobe Acrobat?

My company has been successfully licensing the English language version of Adobe Acrobat (Std 7 Pro) under TLP for nearly two years from our US-based reseller, for locations in both the US and in Canada. Now I have a license request from our location in Quebec for the French language version, and neither my reseller nor the reseller's Adobe specialist have been able to provide any useful (or even coherent) advice on how to accomplish that. Can you help?

R e a l l y ? ? ? ? ? ? Nobody at Adobe sales, support, or in its reseller or user community has a clue how to procure a TLP license for Acrobat in a jurisdiction using one language localization and deploy it to a subsidiary in a jurisdiction using another? Surely you aren't serious? This is an elementary corporate software licensing question. The inability of Adobe (et al) to provide any answer does not bode any better for its future than does the fall of Flash to HTML5 for web page rendering. The history of IT companies that come to believe that they have some kind of historical entitlement to market share and no longer need to work for it isn't pretty. Watching this company attempt to sustain itself on Creative Cloud subscriptions alone should be amusing. One more reason to lkeep looking for alternative formats and products, I guess.
