Licensing for NT Cluster Server

I need to know what the licensing method is for a NT Cluster Server? One server is connected to the database and the other is in hot standby. Only the active server can connect to the database, unless it goes down, then the standby server will take over and connect. I would like to use Oracle standard edition, because the active server has only 4 processors. The standby server has 2 processors. There seems to be some confusion as to the number of processors for this system. Some in our group say that the total number of processors is 6, thus we must use Oracle Enterprise Edition. I say we have two separate computers, one with 4 processors one with 2 processors, and we need Oracle Standard Edition for both computers. Can anyone help me settle this arguement, with documentation?

Thanks for the responses.
The most I've been able to find out is that there is no licensing charge for the NW J2EE AS if you use it to  support Bobj.
Not sure though if the same applies for an application other than Bobj.

  • REMOTE DESKTOP SERVICES CLIENT ACCESS LICENSES FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS SERVER 2012 STANDARD AND DATACENTER

I am using a window 7 professional  service pack 1 and I purchase REMOTE DESKTOP SERVICES CLIENT ACCESS LICENSES FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS SERVER 2012 STANDARD AND DATACENTER. but  the seller did not send me any installation CD or instruction
    on how to use it.
Please how can I use it on my window 7 professional  service pack 1.
    Thank you.

Though Bill is absolutely correct for most CALs, Remote Desktop Services does have its own special licensing server.  I haven't installed one on 2012, yet, but here is a step-by-step guide for 2008.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd983943(v=ws.10).aspx
Here is a lab guide for 2012 -

But, the explanation of your environment begs the question - what are you trying to do?  You say you have a desktop OS and you are talking about Windows Server products.  In that light, your question does not make a lot of sense.

  • Licensing for Netweaver Application Server

I have a customer who is already licensed for BW and Netweaver.
Does this mean that they can then use the NW app server as a J2EE

    charge?

    Thanks for the responses.

  • Licensing For SQL Cluster

    Hi,
I would like to setup a SQL server failover Cluster as described as URL below.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh231721.aspx
Understand that there will be 2 servers and shared storage are required. My question is do I need to 2 SQL Server license with CALs or just 1 SQL server license and CALs is enough for my condition? Because I heard that if the SQL is setting up as  failover
cluster for any kind of SQL Server database work, there's no need to license the redundant hardware,So would like to confirm for it.
Thank you and looking forward for reply. ^^

  • License for backup testing server

I'd like to set up a system to test all our database backups. My plan is a dedicated server that would cycle through our backups and test them by restoring and running dbcc checkdb etc. It would raise an email alert if there was a problem. The server would
not be serving up data to anyone.
We have several spare SQL licenses from our developers' MSDN subscriptions. Would an MSDN license cover this server or does this count as a production server? (I thought of the Express edition but some of our databases are too big.) Please advise. Thanks.

    Hello,
Since the question is a license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific

Now I have bought one new MCS server with the same version call manager and I want to add this node in the same cluster but I am having only two node license installed in my call manager cluster and that is already being used.
Please help me how can I can get the license to add this additional node in the cluster. If I have to order something then please share the part code which I have to order.
    Thanks,

Nodes are free with version 8.5, however you need to order the free part number and receive a PAK, contact your Cisco reseller to submit the order or you can try sending and email to [email protected] to see if they can assist.

  • Create License for java based server

    hello all,
i want to provide license to web based java server. currently i am trying to use license-1.5.jar api for that. means license should be generated on the basis of hardware interaction. If somebody try to change there hardware configuration then license should be invalidate for that machine. If somebody have examples for this type of license application then please provide me or any other way to provide license to java web based software?

If somebody try to change there hardware configuration then license should be invalidate for that machine.Stop right there. This is an all-too-typical example of a business problem being solved with a completely inappropriate technical solution, probably dictated by the business rather than the technicians.
The objective here is surely to get the user to pay the new appropriate fee.
Not to drive them out of business, and yourself with them, by disabling their software.
Think about it. Discuss it with the business side of your organization.

  • Server 2012 Standard license and VM license for windows instances

    Hi,
A question about VM instances on standard server 2012 license exists here
I  cannot link it here as my account is not verified. The topic is titled "Windows Server 2012 Standard License and VMs"
    My question is tad different...
If I understand this correctly, 1 windows server standard license provides support for 1 Physical Operating System Environment (The VM Host /  POSE) and permission to run 2 Virtual Operating System Environment(VOSE).
Does this imply that I can install 2 additional instances of Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition on the permitted 2 VM instances on the server? Or... should I purchase additional licenses for each VOSE that runs windows?
Does the standard license provide rights to run  2 Virtual instances AND offer install and activation rights for 2 MS windows (virtual) environments AND install and activation rights for the windows host?
If license is require for each instance of server 2012 running on the VM ... can I avoid purchasing additional licenses for operating systems, say, if I run 2 Centos operating system instances in 2 VOSE?
    Please help!
    Thanks.

Licensing questions should be asked of a trained Microsoft licensing specialist.  I haven't seen one of those lurking in this forum.  www.microsoft.com/licensing.
That said, licenses are assigned to the physical host, not to VMs.  The License you assign to the host grants you the "right to run" addition virtual operating system environments running Windows Server.  It does not grant you additional licenses.
Licensing for Microsoft Windows Server operating system is controlled by Microsoft.  Licensing for any other operating system is not covered by the virtualization rights of the Windows Server operating system.  Therefore, if the CentOS virtual machines
are properly licensed by whoever licenses them, you can run however many instances that license allows.
A single Standard Edition license can be installed on the physical host granting you the right to run up to two virtual instances of Standard Edition.  However, if you run additional services, such as file services or Active Directory or IIS, etc.,
on the physical instance, that means you can only run one additional virtual instance of Windows Server.
Free advice is worth every cent.

  • License for backup server

    Hi all,
I'm planning to deploy a server for my company and one of the services I'd like to activate is the Mail server.
I know how important it is to have a server always online, so I was thinking of adding a backup server as well.
Do I have to buy a new Mac OS X Server license for the backup server? I currently have an Unlimited license DVD.
    Thanks
    Nick

    yes, licensing is per server.
if you're going to virtualize one of the servers, i believe apple allows that now, though you may still need unique licenses.
    check details here: http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/

  • Does license for SOA Suite 11g include application server

I am looking through the SOA 11g release information and it does not appear to include a license for the WebLogic server. Can anyone confirm that I need to license the appropriate WebLogic 11g base to run SOA Suite 11g on separately. I wish I could find a definitive statement about this on the Oracle web site or in documentation.

Good point. There used to be some (licensing) clarity in the sense that Oracle's middleware applications (i.e. things higher in the middleware food chain) required the underlying Oracle stack and thus the embedded license scenario.
Perhaps (and somewhat ironically) the situation gets more cloudy now that OFM is really and truly "hot pluggable" (i.e. in the sense you can run on other vendor or OSS containers for instance).
Architecturally, I respect Oracle's Hot Pluggable stance and think it's the right thing to do, but practically-speaking I always advise use of Oracle's container etc. because that is naturally where the development and most intense QA and support occurs. This is not to say that Oracle doesn't support other hosting options well, only that the laws of physics (still) apply.

  • Cluster Server required?

    Hi,
Our production EP 7 (2004s) configuration is as follows.
    Config
4 Swap Drives of 5GB each
    OS - 2003 Server standard edition SP1 on C Drive (12GB)
EP instance installed on a separate netapps drive (40GB)
    *4GB RAM
There are 2000+ users that will use the system. Only the ESS component will go live on the live date. Is there a requirement for a cluster server? Will there be an issue  on performance?
Any advice would be highly appreciated,
    Thanks and Regards,
    Antony.

You should only place the ear file on the admin server. The managed servers download a copy from the admin server as they deploy it. Make sure (in the admin console) that the application (and the web apps and ejbs within it) are marked for deployment
              on the managed servers...

  • License for RAS SDK

    Hi,
My client is using CRS XIR2. They do not have Crystal Report Explorer license.
They want to have adhoc capability using the CRS XI2. I know with CRE it is easy but is there any other way to provide adhoc capability maybe using SDK.
I got to know that by using RAS SDK you can create crystal report and provide adhoc.
My plan is to create some template reports and using SDK select the fields and prompts. Using the selected fields and prompts run these template reports.
Hence I wanted to know if there is a separate license that is required for using RAS SDK? Or the CRSXIR2 license itself provides the capability to create dynamic reports?
    Appreciate your response.
    Rahul

The license for Crystal Reports Server includes the usage of the RAS server - which allows you to do ad-hoc reporting.  If you want to use the RCAPI API's (Report Creation API), you will either need to use RAS, or you will need to use .NET with SP2 installed.  (SP2 enables RCAPI for regular non-enterprise .NET apps)
Unfortunately this capability is not yet available in the JRC (it is planned though).
    So to summarize:
    1. CR Server includes the license to use the RAS server and to do RCAPI
    2. If you don't want to use the RAS server, you can use .NET with XI R2 SP2 installed.
