Licensing for two domain servers

Hello all,
I have (so far) one Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation acting as a domain controller. We are planning on adding second DC (within same domain/tree/forest) as a redundant server. Servers are used only for direct access within LAN (same subnet/VLAN, no terminal,
no Hyper-V). Will number of CALs add up (to 30 CALs) or do I still have only 15 CALs ?
Thanks in advance for Your response.
Regards

Thanks for Your answers.
I don't think I understand You correctly.
1. Server Foundation comes with 15 CALs
2. I'd like to get a second server for redundancy in my office domain.
3. It would be second machine with separate install of WinSrv2012R2 (same version, but different CALs).
4. Both come with 15 CALs each (this is standard for Foundation)
SO QUESTION IS:
Even if I have second install do I need additional CALS if I have 20 users?
diramoh -
1. Does that mean I need to buy additional CALs if I have 20 users and TWO WinSrv2012 Foudations
2. If so Why do I need Standard Edition, why not only Essentials?
3. What about using one DC with 15 CALs per server and other DC with 15
per seat
Thanks again for Your help, support and answers.
Regards,

  • Hi all - is it really possible to use one license for two computers or is it just a rumor?

I heard that it would be possible that you can use one license for two computers. Is that the truth? And if so - how does it work?
    Thanks
    K

Adobe CC or any perpetual previous version allows you to install & activate it two times (on the same computer or other different one).
As per End user license agreement, only one computer can be used at one given time.

Hi Claudio, that ddts is pretty generic to be honest but yes it is filed to address sync issues in the XR NTP algo.
The thing is that XR ntp clock selection is a bit different then iOS and follows the specs very closely which results in this erroneous loss behavior.
For instance, you could also see this issue with a sync loss if the update time is only 500msec off what it was before and that will result in a ntp sync loss rather then adjusting to it.
Also I wanted to mention that the ntp prefer is a bit of a misnomer in XR (since it follows the specs differently then IOS) and this knob was taken over from IOS really.
You might get some joy if you set it to one server only and see if that helps?

  • Requesting license for two different ssystem with same SID

    Hello,
Is it possible to request 2 license for two systems with same SID. The systems are on different machines and their HW key are different but both have same SID. While requesting license, will it permit to create 2 different license with SAME SID.
    Regards
    Deb

    Hi Anil,
The one for which the license is already requested is the main development portal with SID EP2. I have installed one local version of SAP EP with the same SID EP2. Now we need a license for the second system.
If we change the HW key of the original license which is already applied in the main development portal under SMP and apply for a new license for the new local version, can it have any future implications, if any.
What is the best way to deal with the situation. Is there a full proof way to change the SID of the EP system, which I can try in the local EP system.

  • Buy/activate EMS licenses for a domain in another Azure AD

I could really use an answer in regards to assigning Enterprise Mobility Suite licenses to an Azure subscription.
First a little bit of background information:
I have a single Azure subscription with two Azure Active Directories called Production
    and Testing respectively.
The Production Azure AD “holds” two public domains named
prod1.com and prod2.com, which are verified domains and used by my Office 365 and Intune subscriptions. The accounts in these two domain are sourced from Windows Azure Active Directory (not synched).
The Testing Azure AD “holds” one public domain named
testing.com and are not verified yet.
I bought 5 EMS licenses and activated them and had hoped that I could use these for the accounts that I am going to create (sync) in the Testing Azure AD (testing.com
domain). But to my surprise I can only assign EMS licenses to the accounts in my Production Azure AD (prod1.com/prod2.com
domains). If I go to the License tab on the testing.com domain page I can only active the trial subscription for EMS.
What would be the correct to buy/activate EMS licenses for my accounts in the testing.com domain?
I have thought about creating a new Azure subscription for the testing.com domain to separate those two but that would add a bit more administration.
The reason I have chosen to create a separate Azure AD for my testing.com domain is that I only want to enable DirSync for that particular domain and not for the two other production domains that I have.
    Kind regards
    Michael Buchardt

    Hi Michael,
The licenses can only be assigned to one of your Azure AD tenants, that's why you don't see them in the other one.     I guess you activated/bought the EMS licenses logged on as an Admin in the "Production AAD"? If you really
need to use separate AAD's, you will probably need to create a support ticket and get assistance on how to transfer the licenses.
Anyhow, I'd recommend you using just one AAD if you don't have a very specific use case (like dev/test Environment). Otherwise, there is no problem activating Directory Synchronization, synchronize the testing.com users(using
filtering) still keep managing the users in the prod1.com and prod2.com directly in AAD.
    Hope this helps!

  • Licensing for non domain joined machines

    Good Day
would additional licensing be required to manage non domain joined machines or would this be covered by the current EA. can someone explain how licensing for the management of non domain machines would work?
    thanks
    daniel

    Hi,
There is no difference if you don't want to license them differently and if that is possibly in you agreement, so you should contact you MS License reseller.
You could buy a System Center Configuration Manager CAL if you want to manage it, that will only cover ConfigMgr and not Endpoint protection for instance. So you should really contact your reseller and see what is the most optimal solution for you company/organisation.

  • Site to Site VPN connection for two Domain Controllers

I need to set up a site to site vpn connection using 2 pix 500 series firewalls to connect 2 domain controllers. Once the site to site vpn is established, do the servers automatically see each other for replication?
    Thanx.

My Active Directory guy has taken a good look at a small site-to-site VPN setup that I'm having a BIG problem with, and his answer is "They're supposed to." He said that as long as DC#2 (in the remote office) has the ability to resolve DNS for DC#1 (in the primary office) then the two should automatically replicate.
I have a two-office IPSec site-to-site tunnel between two 831's running 12.4.11T (soon to be upgraded to the latest 11T or even 15T1). XP SP2 machines in the remote office have full visibility back to the shares in the central office, and pings and nmap scans work perfectly in either direction, but my newly-added DC#2 in the remote office isn't replicating back to DC#1 (the original DC for the environment). I ran a full nmap scan from the central office against DC#2, and can see all of the expected ports/services open (e.g. 389(LDAP), 445 (msds), 135, 137, 3389, etc) but I can't view shares on DC#2 (or any other PC in the remote office) from the central office. Again, DC#2 and remote office PCs have no problem seeing shares back at headquarters.
Sorry for not being more helpful - hopefully someone out there can shed more light on the topic. If not, I'm going to call it into TAC and I'll let you know.
But again, from an Active Directory perspective this should 'just work' so it seems that either the IPSec tunnel or perhaps the "ip inspect" IOS CBAC firewalls are getting in the way.

  • How to use one certificate for two directory servers?

    Hi,
running Sun DSEE 6.3.1 on two servers, server 1 has name ds1.example.com, server 2 has name ds2.example.com. There is a round robin DNS record ds.example.com, which alternates between:
    ds1.example.com
    ds2.example.com
    and
    ds2.example.com
    ds1.example.com
An LDAP client connects to one of the servers over SSL using the name ds.example.com. We want to generate a certificate using the name ds.example.com and use it on both directory servers.
If we generate a CSR using DSCC on server 1 and get back a signed certificate, the certificate can be installed correctly on server 1. However, if we use the same signed certificate on server 2 it fails with error:
Unable to find private key for this certificate.
    Failed to add the certificate.
Error executing the operation. The error code is 11.
What is the correct way to generate one CSR, have it signed by a CA and then implement this signed certificate on multiple servers?
    /rolf

From one Directory Server (ds1) generate CSR with the name ds.example.com in the request. Once you get the signed cert import it into the same server you generated CSR with. Then from ds1.example.com :
    scp -p <slapd install/instance path>/alias/* <account>@ds2.example.com:<slapd install/instance path>/alias/
to copy the contents of the alias path to the same location on the other Directory Server. Make sure file permissions are the same.

  • Can I use the same database for two WSUS servers?

    Hi Folks,
Our HQ WSUS database is on a dedicated SQL Server 2008 in HQ. We are planning to set up a replica WSUS server in a branch office (centralized management mode). But we want to check the WSUS reports (e.g. computer/update status) only from the HQ instead
of each branch. I have two questions.
I should not install the SQL Server in Branch, and specify the HQ SQL Server as the Branch WSUS server database, right? In this case, I can check WSUS reports of both HQ and Branch from HQ, right?
Can I use a specific update source (e.g. Microsoft Update or other WSUS upsteam servers) for Branch WSUS server instead of HQ WSUS server even it's a replica WSUS server?
    Thanks,
    高麻雀

Regarding to "If the branch office server is intended to be a replica server, then it must be configured with the HQ WSUS server as the update source", does it mean my branch WSUS server is only able to get the patches from my HQ WSUS server?
That is the fundamental premise of a downstream replica server.
Isn't it able to get the patches from Microsoft Update or other WSUS servers?
Well, here we may have a terminology challenge... so let me take a step back and answer this way:
A WSUS server obtains *updates* via the process of synchronization. Updates can be synchronized from one of two sources: Microsoft, or an Upstream WSUS Server.
Additionally, updates have a concept of APPROVAL. Approvals can be obtained from an Upstream WSUS Server when the server is configured as a REPLICA server; otherwise, Approvals are created at each individual WSUS server.
Finally, updates have FILES. Files can be obtained from Microsoft or the Upstream WSUS server, and this configuration option is absolutely independent of where the updates and/or approvals come from.
Please note: All of this is exhaustively documented and discussed in the
WSUS Deployment Guide. I would highly recommend reading it cover-to-cover.
In this case, there will a a lot of bandwith cost on the leased line which is only 2Mbps and intended for critical business like VDI/ERP applications.
    A few thoughts here...
First a 2Mb/sec link is more than adequate to support a WSUS server downloading update files from an Upstream WSUS Server.
Second, using BITS you can configure when those files are transferred as well as how much of that 2Mb/sec is made available to the WSUS downstream server.
Third... Patch Management IS a critical business function. Do not let it be treated as a step-child or the VDI/ERP functionally will be irrelevant.
"after installing the replica server in the branch office, on the upstream server enable the option for Reporting Rollup", will the report information (computer/update status) be recorded in the HQ SQL Server?
The detail reporting data for the clients of the downstream replica servers is physically stored in the upstream server's database.

    Jim,
I can't find my question and don't understand why you moved it. This is my fist day in the community. No one on Amazon knows if the licenses are tied together or not. I don't see what the cloud community has to do with video editing.

  • ACE: Single SSL Cert for two domains with same VIP

At present I have a design that will use individual SSL cert per domain and link both certs to (two or one) serverfarm.
    policy-map multi-match popvip_01
    class POP_VIP01
    loadbalance vip inservice
    loadbalance policy POP-POp3_PMT or popPMT1
    loadbalance vip icmp-reply
    ssl-proxy server GINPOP_SSLPROXY
    connection advanced-options TCP_PARAM_Y
    class POP3_VIP02
    loadbalance vip inservice
    loadbalance policy POP-POp3_PMT or POPPMT2
    loadbalance vip icmp-reply
    ssl-proxy server GINPOP3_SSLPROXY
    connection advanced-options TCP_PARAM_Y
    however,
if I can get one single certificate to process both pop and pop3 domains, that use the same VIP/port, and if this will work with ACE, i'm inclined to design using this alternative.
    ie,
    pop.mydomain.com = 10.10.10.1 995
    pop3.mydomain.com = 10.10.10.1 995
    Any suggestions would be appriciated.

    Hello,
In order to achieve this then you will need to order a wildcard certifictae ie
    *.mydomain.com
These certificates are more expensive and so you will probably find it cheaper to buy two certificates than one wildcard certificate.

  • Licensing for BE6K Redundancy

    Hi All,
We've deployed Cisco BE6K and we are required to do redundancy for CUCM & CUC do we need to have separate UWL license for the redundant servers ?
    Please help.
    Best regards
    kennedy

No you do not need separate CUWL licenses.  The reason is that licenses on CUCM 9.x and later which is when CUWL starts to be used are not node or server based but user based instead.  You can have as many servers for redundancy as you want without changing the number of licenses you have.

  • License for Oracle business intelligence EE

    Hi,
I'd like to know how many OBIEE user licenses(NUP) do I have to get following our server environment. We'll have 50 real OBIEE users on this system.
We're gonna have three web servers(IIS) and one new server for OBIEE. Actually I'd like to run OBIEE with http server on a server, but our web system security policy point of view, I have to separate http server functions from an OBIEE server physically. I understand if OBIEE program will be working on a server with http server functions, it enough to get minimum OBIEE user licenses(50NUP) for using it.
My question is if I'll separate some http server functions from the OBIEE server, do I have to purchase additional OBIEE licenses for the http servers? I know that if I'll separate the functions from the OBIEE server, I have to put some ISAPI components for OBIEE on the IIS servers for connecting to the OBIEE server.
    Thanks

    Hi
As far as I know, if you separate the HTTP server away from the BI Server you do not need additional licenses. I believe this is only a configuration issue. However, you should ask your Oracle sales rep as they will have the most up to date information.
I have a feeling that the named user minimum is per processor so you'll have to work out how many processors there will be in the final environment and multiply 50 by $1500 (the cost of a single user) by the number of CPUs.
Thus, if you end up with a 4 CPU machine, or 2 x 2 CPU machines, the cost will be 4 x 1500 x 50 = $300,000. The same on a processor based license would be $900,000 (4 x $225,000), so until you have 150 users or more you will be better off going down the NUP route..
I hope you have plenty of money.
    Best wishes
    Michael
