there are some java libraries that are free for non commercial use but require to purchase a license for commercial applications.
My question is : what if some one use this library in commercial app without purchasing licence ? how can the owner of the librairy control the use of his work. and if you use it for commercial purposes what will happen ?

My free trial has expired a week into the trial. I have contacted support and they haven't solved the issue. Stated to use forum to solve my license issue for this computer.

Did you have an Adobe trial running on this same computer before? Maybe your previous trial was used for 3 weeks and then you uninstalled it? If so, you're only eligible for a 1 week trial on this computer.

ECC user licenses issue for using Webdynpro ABAP in portal

Hi all,
If we want to use Webydnpro ABAP in our external facing portal which is being used by more than 20000 users, how do we manage the ECC licenses for all these users? It will be really expensive to have that many number of licenses in ECC (one for every portal user). Is there any other work around for this?
Any info on this will be beneficial.

I am not sure why you want to use WebDynpro for External Portal . As Webdynpro is resource intensive , I never saw client asking for this type of requirement. Are developing any prototype ?
In my experience ABAP webdynpro is more is used more for business packages and internal portals not for external portals. If you want to use this AWD for EEP Please see below link from SAP Help for pre-requisites

Last Step in above Link, this mentions that ABAP Webdynpro needs logon.
As other people mentioned there might be a good way of doing if you contact your SAP account executive to find out if there are any different types of licenses. But you end up in taking other extra licences which not acceptable solution for clients.
If you want to use WebDynpro for external Portal ( which is not at all suggested for external ) at any cost , better to go with Web Dynpro for Java which will not need any extra licences on R3.

Assuming that you have a licence for Forms then it depends on how you are deploying it.
If you are deploying the application in Client Server mode then tghere is no runtime licence for Forms.
If you are deploying on the web then you will need a Forms Server licence

I have two MDS switches that should have identical licensing/features installed. One of the switches is continuously logging 'license file missing' for SAN_EXTN_OVER_IP_IPS4. We are not using this feature. What do I need to do to clear up the log files? Below is a comparison of the 'show license usage' for each switch.

The IPS 4 module was short lived and has been end of support for a while.
Issue this command to see if the MDS will report what feature is triggering the license to be 'in use'.
show license usage SAN_EXTN_OVER_IP_IPS4
This command should show what configuration commands are generating this message. The file missing is not something to worry about. I mean it is annoying, but will not harm the switch operation.
Do you know if you even have an IPS 4 module installed? 'show module' would indicate if you do.
This looks to be a remnant of using the IPS4 module for an FCIP connection sometime back.
The other option is change the logging level for the license manager. The default is level 6 (informational) which means levels 6 down to 1 are all logged. You change the logging level from 6 to a lower number to stop them from showing up. I believe that the missing file is a level 3, so you could set the logging level for licmgr messages to 2 (which would be 2,1 and 0 inclusive). This would not the messages...just stop them from being recorded in the log.

Definitely not free... It is CPU / Core based and part of the Standard Edition One and better editions of the app server.
Check with your Oracle Sales Manager.

Licensing issues for selling our own java app.

I am just wondering whether it is legal to write our own java applications and sell them to the public. Do I need to obtain a license from SUN or other third parties that provide me the support libraries(for example apache xalan, etc...)? You know, we are just normal individuals, there is no way we can afford the license.

If you have to include code that you didn't write (library or otherwise), ...Last time I checked the JRE could be distributed by a user. The JDK could not. If one uses only the the documented classes in the JDK/JRE then only the JRE is needed. If one is using any other products/api/undoc'd like javamail, j2ee, jmdk, etc then the license will have to be looked at.
Stuff from free ware sources generally have varying restrictions. This can often include the demand that the product must be made available in source code form. There can be other variations, so the license for each download should be checked.

Well. You say you want to insert a node as a child of another node, and it needs to be inserted before a certain other child node.
There's an insertBefore() method in the Node interface. Use that.
And if you thought that was a challenging issue then you might as well give up writing DOM code right now.

License issue for EP users

Hi,
I created certain WD application based on Z- functional module like delivery report, outstanding, sales order .My data source is ECC. I mapped single ecc users to multiple ep users.
Now i want to provide the login facility to the n- numbers of ep users by keeping the ep server outside the firewall. But we have limited ecc user license.
So, wether it is necessary to buy the each and every ep users license who want to logon to the portal or by user mapping (by single ecc user),multiple ep users can logon to the portal?

If your system is ABAP + JAVA, then you don't need licence for EP user.
It will comes uder licence for your SAP backend System.

Security issues for Java server side code

When reading the Oracle 8i documentation regarding using JDBC
with Java running within the database, I found that the Oracle-
specific call 'defaultConnection()' can be used instead of the
standard 'getConnection()'.
This appears to be what I want to use as it avoids Net8.
However, in the documentation it states that the user ID and
password are ignored. Is there no way, then, of implementing
user based security in a Java program using defaultConnection()?

          See u know how to call serverside java objects from remoteobject? If u know that every thing same that replace coldfusion and place ur java stuff
          but nothing will change at client side cairngorm architecture.. use blaze ds server to connect with the server and make a remote call to the server and have fun.
         i think u know how to initialize services in cairngorm framework and make some struff on delegate and call serverside java methods from remote object service.
          u can try this dont try for examples in the net or something.. u have a complete knowledge on cairngorm framework .. and just u want to develop j2ee applications ..
          make try with sample applications with j2ee server.. its very easy and little interesting.. make some pojos in serverside to communicate with the database and call that methods..
            i think this will help u and i dont have perfect example for serverside java code...
               this is not and example in cairngorm and java .. but u know cairngorm and i am posting here only the tutorial how to communicate with java methods

SNR License Issue. How Can I Disable SNR for all Users?

I Have an issue with SNR on CUCM 10.5 and with assignement of license type
I have a cluster with 400 users.
200 users use ip phone 3905 and should be use an Essential License.
When system check for assignement of license type , itassign a Basic License instead of an Essential License, because it see that users have SNR Enabled.
All users in my system have SNR enabled, and I can not disable it. All my user have Enable Mobility unchecked, and all my phone have Device Mobility Off, but system however see SNR enable.
How can i disable SNR for all users? This is a feature that client don't need.
I dont' have a sufficent number of licenses for support all 3905 in Basic License.

Well actually, Mobile Identity wouldn't apply to a 3905 unless those phones had another line on a Dual-Mode device like an iPhone or Android phone. So unless you have either of those in your system you can scratch that idea. Someone else may chime in here and try to help a bit more as RD/RDP are the main SNR culprits.

License for Java stack in SAP Solution Manager

I installed SAP Solution Manager (ABAP+Java), have ordered the SAP License and applied the license for ABAP part (Tcode: slicense).
Do I also need to update/license the Java Part of my system in Visual Administration?
(Server 0 0_30826 .. --> Licensing Adapter --> choose Tab "Installed Licenses")

In a double-stack installation, only the license keys in WebAS ABAP is relevant. You do not require a license key for WebAS Java for a double-stack installation.
If a license key was installed in WebAS Java, it does not have an effect on the function of the system. You can ignore warnings about expired or soon to expire license keys in WebAS Java.

Invalid license for Java AS 7.01 SP03 J2EE-Engine_ADA

Hi,
I am having some problems with a license for a Java AS 7.01 SP03.
Licenses for J2EE-Engine_ADA and Maintenance_ADA has been generated as described in note 870871 and license file from SAP has been received.
The license gets installed through Visual Admin without any problems ("License installed sucessfully"), but when you view it afterward the value validity is set to "invalid". I have not found any log entry indicating why the license is invalid.
All other fields are filled correctly and both SID and hardware key match.
Just before the system restarts automatically it logs the following
com.sap.engine.core.licensing.impl0.LicensingManagerImpl.checkLicense(String)#######Thread[Thread-34,5,main]##0#0#Error#1#/System/Server#Java###The installed license for software product "" is NOT valid. The concerned component may only run with restricted functionality. In case of "J2EE-Engine" the system will shut down.#1#J2EE-Engine_ADA#
From note 1374965 I see that there are some fixes for licensing in SP05 (though none directly relevant), but would prefer not to upgrade unnecessary.
Anyone experiencing the same or have any workarounds?

Managed to resolve it myself, just before I gave up.
I turned on full logging for location com.sap.engine.core.licensing through visual admin-> log configurator
There I saw
com.sap.engine.core.licensing.impl0.LicensingManagerImpl##com.sap.engine.core.licensing.impl0.LicensingManagerImpl.likey package#Administrator#8##n/a##77dc1c6035b911dfc3fd001e4f9e516d#SAPEngine_Application_Thread[impl:3]_32##0#0#Path##Plain###The license key for system "EWZ", hardware key "01145643903", product "J2EE-Engine_ADA" is invalid: the hardware key doesn't match "O1145643903".#
As you can see the hardware key starts with the letter O, while when the license was requested it was typed as the number 0 (by someone other than me )

may not ... * rent, lease or lend the software; ...", and the files in REDIST.TXT are part of the software. However, I would find it strange if the use of REDIST files could actually limit me from renting, leasing, lending my product. Background: our
complex and somewhat costly appliances are sometimes leased by the customer (rent/lease), and in some cases the customer gets to test them for free (lend).
My organization has a strict governance process and any software/API used for our products must be obtained under licensing terms which do not restrict us from marketing and exploiting our products.
Would be thankful for any hint, even if it is just a pointoer to some place where the question has been answered.
