LIDE 90 and MG3100

I have an MG3100 printer/scanner and an LIDE 90 scanner which I wish to use on the same computer.  I am running Win7 (64).
The computer recognizes the LIDE 90 as being connected but I am unable to scan anything with it.  I tried to download the Canoscan software but it won't install (says it only works on the 32 bit version).
The MG3100 is not convenient for scanning a large volume of pictures.  Is there any way I can use both of these scanners together on this computer?  Is there a 64 bit version of the Canoscan software available, or any way of making the MP Navigator software recognize the LIDE 90?
Hope there is a solution to this problem which doesn't require buying another brand of scanner.
Thanks,
Bob

Hello urban1.
To install the LiDE 90 on your 64-Bit Windows 7 computer, please download the update drivers and MP Navigator EX 1.07 program from our website.  Please visit the following link.
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_lide90#DriversAndSo...
Once there, choose 'Windows 7 x64" in the "Select OS" menus to access the correct downloads.
The MG3120 uses a different version of the MP Navigator than the LiDE 90.  Please be sure that the MP Navigator EX 5.0 program is used for the MG3120 and the 1.07 program is used for the LiDE 90.

You are referring to a feature called Clamshell Mode, please read Clamshell Mode setup for instructions.

  • Running MBP 15 with lid closed and external screen = damaging screen?

I connected an external screen to my laptop with the lid closed and woke it up through my external keyboard. I am vaguely remembering reports stating that heat is vented through the keyboard as well as through the vents in the back.
Does that mean that running the laptop with the lid closed is damaging the machine or specifically the screen?

    No, it's fine.

  • MBP keeps waking up (for a few seconds) with lid closed and in sleep.

My macbook pro, with the lid closed and hence in sleep, will periodically turn on. As in, ill be laying in bed trying to sleep, ill hear the sound of the fans and hd etc turn on, and then ill see the lcd light up.. itll do this for 4 secs, then go back to sleep. Every 20 mins or so it will do this.
What the hells wrong with it ?

Do you have any USB devices attached? Any Bluetooth devices tethered and nearby? Both of those can wake the MBP... Bluetooth can be set not to wake (System Preferences > Bluetooth), but for USB the only way is to unplug them before you close the lid. If you have Ethernet connected, uncheck the box to wake for ethernet administrator access in System Preferences > Energy Saver > Options tab (in Power adapter settings) .
    Hope this helps...

  • Lid flex and bezel cracking Portege

My laptop is less than 10 months old (R705-P25) and has been pampered since purchase. There has never been the slightest impact or damage to it. The bezel on the left and right side of the screen has developed thin horizontal cracks in the same location just below the rubber bumpers. The left side crack propagated upward and caused the left bumper to drop off. I now have a piece missing (the bumper and surrounding area) on the left side, and a thin crack on the right. I have read other posts about the lid flex with the portege models and strongly believe this is the root cause for this issue (Lid flex and brittle materials used in the bezel). Toshiba insists this is physical damage, and not a manufacturing defect or design flaw. I love the laptop, but feel they may have sacrificed durability for weight. Has anyone else experienced this issue with a portege?

i have a portege R830. Owned it for maybe 6 months. Also have taken great care of it very well. Overall happy with it but one of the usb ports stopped working after a month and the bezel cracked, similar to the other comments in this thread. Picture is attached. While these cracks are too common in the manufacture of thin wall molded plastic, they are nearly 100% avoidable. Toshiba should pony up and replace these defective parts free of charge.

  • How can I use an external display with my MBP lid closed and disconnected to power?

I know that I can use an external display when my MBP lid is closed and it is connected to power. I was wondering why it does not work when the power cable is removed.
I only use an external display when I am at home so my MBP acts like a Mac Pro or Mac Mini in that way, but it is not good to leave the battery charging constantly on a MBP so I want to disconnect the power and use external display and have the lid closed. Is this possible or do I have to leave my lid open when running on battery power?

I'm plugged into my wall socket at least 90% of the time - probably more. I always make sure that I take my MBP off mains about once every two weeks and let it run down to about 30-40% and then plug it back up. This keeps the ions flowing and the battery healthy. My MBP will be one year old on March 20, 2013, and my battery health is still at 99%. I run in clamshell mode most of the time now - since I bought a 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display. Only occasionally am I off mains - and then because I'm exercising my battery, usually.
Don't worry about running of mains most of the time - just be sure and unplug about once every two weeks (or twice a month) and let your battery dip to the 30-40% mark and you'll be fine.
    Good luck,

  • MacBook Pro keeps going to sleep in closed-lid mode and external monitor

I am trying to run the MacBook in closed lid mode with an external monitor. It seems to work fine at first, but after about 10 seconds, it goes to sleep. I can wake it back up but it just goes to sleep again.
    Has anyone seen this before?

I figured it out. Apparently you can't run in closed-lid mode on battery. I plugged in the power adapter and it's working fine now.

  • Stay "awake" with lid closed and no ext. display?

I am using my MacBook Pro to stream audio from an internet radio site. The computer's audio output is wired into my home stereo system. It all works great but is there a way I can close the lid without the computer going to sleep ? There is no external keyboard, mouse or display connected.
    Thanx

That's one of the cool things... the display sleeps "normally" but the computer does not. I've been monitoring it for the last couple of hours and it's not even getting close to hot. Thanx for the heads up tho...

  • Using Macbook without lid/display (and mounted upside down)

I have a MBP with a damaged LCD that I want to connect to a kitchen HDTV and mount upside down. Since the display is useless, don't need a camera, and I want easy access to the power button, I want to remove the lid and mount the MBP upside down to the underside of a above-counter kitchen cabinet (not enclosed). Is there any problem with removing the lid and mounting/operating upside down? Makes for a sweet kitchen internet station, and will be very cool to have the MBP and cables mounted out of sight (wireless keyboard/mouse of course!).

BSteely, thanks for the response. Unfortunately I started dissasembly before I checked back on the forum. I removed the damaged LCD and got crazy and removed the lid frame. I continuously checked the MBP operation after each step to make sure it was still working (using external display). The only thing I did not check along the way was internet access (wireless router). I ended up cutting the connection to what I believe is the antenna/receiver? Because when I mounted the MBP under the cabinet and turned it on, everything worked fine except no internet access. I am in the process of trying to reconnect the wires on what I think is the antenna (was mounted in the bottom of the lid/hinge area. Do you think this is my problem? Other than that everything working OK so far.

  • MB: Won't sleep when lid closed and power connected.

Upgraded to Lion a few days ago and everything seems to be working great besides one thing:
When I close the lid on my Macbook (mid 2009) and the power is connected, the light remains on and the computer won't sleep. When i lift the lid everything is how I left it with no blink of the screen as it fires back up. However, when the power is disconnected, the computer sleeps fine when the lid is closed.
    How can this be solved?
    Thanks!!

OK, think I found my problem.
I had to send my laptop in for repair due to a faulty screen.  When I got it back it all looked OK so the first thing I did was install Lion.  Then I noticed the sleep issue so assumed it was Lion causing it.  I tried the pram, SMC other settings but nothing helped.  In the end I reinstalled Snow Leopard, same problem!  I tried from bootcamp and same problem, wouldn't sleep when closing the lid.
Doing some googling I found a post where someone has the magnet in the display fail, which is what contacts a switch in the laptop when you close the screen.  To test they suggest placing a paper clip on your screen bezel until it sticks to find the magnet, then finding where it locates when closing the screen on the laptop.  Then run a small magnet (i used a small fridge one) over this location on the laptop with the screen up.  I did this and instantly went to sleep!!!  WOOHOO!  remove magnet it wakes up, repeat and OK.  Close screen without magnet and nothing.
So its gone back in for repair to have the screen replaced again.

  • Problems with using Canon LiDE 210 and OSX 10.7.4

I am getting nowhere with installing the Canon LiDE 210 scanner software on my 2010 MBP. All I get when I try to scan is "insufficient memory". I can scan using Image Capture and with the trial VueScan software so the problem looks as if it is something to do with the Canon software or the way that it installs on the MBP. Has anyone else had a similar problem or can anyone suggest a fix? Many thanks

Hellooo, I realise this thread is a year old and yet I'm having some real difficulty, hopefully this will fall on someones ears...
Firstly I have a mac mini bought recently and running on Mountain Lion 10.8.3 I tried downloading what is apparently the most up to date drvier and mp navigator for use with the CanoScan LiDE 210 meaning, that both the driver and mp navigator are compatible with Mountain Lion. Here is the following link I used that was forwarded to me by Canon:
    http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0100434402.html
    http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0200153502.html
I install both of the downloads, plug in the scanner, and nothing... no noise, no beep nothing to say that it is on. I try and open the scanner through system preferences-printer/scanner-canoscan icon yet I am then presented with the message; "failed to open a session on this device"
Strange, I call canon back and they do not know what else to suggest apart from all the usual trouble shooting, the type that is very patronising and annoying... did you click the icon and press scan, did you click the install button after downloading the software... the sort of thing that might otherwise result in the beating, of ones own face with the phone
At the end of this call, and after forwarding me a couple more useless links to unworkable downloads they say that it must be the product, and that I should contact the seller for a replacement.
So I do, I contact Amazon, I get my replacement and voila, exactly the same problem.
I even try getting it going using my mbp which is on snow leopard, which means I can use the installation disc that it is packed with it, it makes a noise, it sounds like its turning on but then when I click "open scanner" ... nothing, no option to scan, no acknowledgement of the device other than the icon itself in system preferences.
Does anyone have any experience of this issue, does anyone know how I might resolve it?
    Many thanks,
    Jeff

  • Envy m6 1125dx - lid cracking and splitting apart

I have an m6 that is otherwise perfectly functional. A few months back, the lid started making interesting noises when opening and closing. Upon closer inspection I see that the lid is cracking and the aluminum plate on the outside of the lid has started to bow out.
Any suggestions on how to proceed? I'm being very careful about how I open and close the lid but I get the feeling that it will completely break apart in the not-too-distant future.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • OS deployment to laptops with lids closed and battery power?

I'm trying to deploy Windows 7 to laptops with the lids closed.  I send wake on lan to start the deployment and it works on some of the laptops (they are all identical) and the rest run part way and never complete until I walk to the laptop and open
the lid (then the deployment resumes).
I am assuming the reason some complete and some do not is because the smart device that charges these laptops charges the laptops in banks to avoid overloading the power source and maybe the laptops do not want to continue after a reboot if they are not
actively charging at that moment and the lid is closed.
Are there any special settings (power plan settings or BIOS settings) we should configure to ensure that deployment continues unattended whether the lid is open or closed and whether the laptop is charging or not?

Connect an external monitor up to one of the laptops in question to see what is really going on. Specifically what is blocking things here? Are the machines actually booted into WinPE or the full OS, or are they blocked at BIOS.
Everything else at this point is speculation. There is nothing built into MDT Litetouch that would prevent it from continuing due to the state of the Laptop LID

  • Portege R705-P35 - Screen/Lid Flexes and bends - Is this normal?

My screen/lid of the laptop bends when light pressure is applied to it.  I was curious if this was normal amongst the portege 705s.  Thanks.

I too have a bezel issue with 2 breaks.  Looking to find parts and how to replace the bezel.  Will I need to seperate the screen from the keyboard in order to replace the bezel?
I understand that the part number is located on the underside of the bezel probably on the lower right side of it.  Does anyone have the bezel part number for a R705-P35 Protege?
