LIDE USB Scanner

I have a Canon LIDE 700F scanner. I am able to use Image Capture on my Mac Pro with this scanner (no need to load the Canon software). However, my Image Capture does not appear to recognize this scanner at all. Any ideas why? Does it have something to do with the type of USB port?
Thanks
Tom

  • CanoScan LiDE 700F Scanner not opening up

Whenever I try to scan anything with CanoScan LiDE 700F scanner my computer gives the message "scanner reported an error. An error ocurred while communicating with the scanner." I have to unplug and plug back the USB port and only hten it opens up.  When I try to open the scanner with System Preferences, scanner opens up, but as soon as I hit "scan" the same error message pops up.  I uploaded the latest driver from Canon website, but the problem persists.  I also deleted and re-installed the sanner in system preferences, but it didn't help.
It used to work fine when I initially installed it (on Leopard), but then suddenly this problem arose.

This same error message was first noticed on 10.6. It would only occur after waking the Mac from sleep. Prior to the sleep state you could scan using Image Capture without error. But if the Mac entered a sleep state with the scanner connected, after waking it and then trying to scan, the error message would appear. And as you have found, the quick solution is to unplug the USB cable and then reconnect it.
This problem only occurs with Canon scanners that use USB power. The models that have their own power supply, or the All In One devices with scanner, do not suffer the same fate. Apple Engineering is aware of this and have told me that it is up to Canon to fix.
Note that the same problem does not occur when using Canon's MP Navigator application. This application uses the full TWAIN-based scanner driver, whereas Image Capture and Preview use the ICA driver, and works fine after waking the Mac from a sleep state.

  • USB scanner permissions

    Okay, I'm totally confused.
I have a Canon Lide-30 USB scanner which I have used under Arch Linux many times--but not for 2 or 3 months. However, I was never able to configure hotplug to set the permissions automatically; I always had to become root and manually set the permissions in order to access the scanner as a regular user. Now, of course, the devices are all different (I mostly keep up with the latest release, don't really use testing packages, so I now have kernel 2.6.14).
    Here's what's happening:
I plugged in the scanner's USB cable after booting (my machine's been up continuously for a few days, so I would have to shut down to do otherwise).
Loaded the uhci-hcd module ... now /proc/bus/usb is mounted, and it contains a node for my scanner.
    Run sane-find-scanner as root:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x220e [CanoScan], chip=LM9832/3) at libusb:001:002
Run sane-find-scanner as myself: same as above
    Run xsane as root: OK.
Run xsane as myself: No devices found.
    # chmod 777 /dev/usbdev1.2 (which I think represents the scanner)
    # chmod 777 /dev/usbdev1.1
    # chmod 777 /proc/bus/usb/001/002
    # chmod 777 /proc/bus/usb/001/001
No change. I still can't access the scanner as myself.
By the way, it appears that the hotplug daemon won't start, though I'm not quite sure why. There are no files in /var/log/hotplug. In /var/log/errors, I see
DEVPATH is not set (subsystem pci)
But according to a brief Google search, this is not a serious problem.
    So what's the magic formula?

    Have you read this?

  • Lide 80 scanner problem

I have an iMac G-5 and a Lide 80 scanner which I have not used for several months. When I tried to use it, the Cannon toolbox said the driver was not found. I went to Canon and they had me uninstall and reinstall the scanner software to no avail. The same exact problem is happening with my G-4 17 ". I also tried image capture which could not find the scanner and Read Iris 9 which also cound not find it. I checked the system profiler and it is there under USB. It sounds like a problem with 10.4.6. Does anyone have any advice? I appreciate your help in advance.
    Don

Check the System Profiler to see if the scanner is connected. Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info -> look in the USB section of the hardware items.
If it isn't there, then try a different USB cable between the scanner and the computer.
If that doesn't get it to show upon a refresh of the System Profiler, then it may be a PRAM/NVRAM, or hardware issue.
To see if it is PRAM or NVRAM, see this article:

  • CanoScan LiDE 60 scanner driver problems

I'm usually pretty good at troubleshooting software issues on my iMac, but this scanner problem has me absolutely stumped!!! My old Canon CanoScan LiDE 60 scanner stopped working the other day...out of the blue. I have been using the ScanGear software without a hitch, and now every time I open the program, I get a "Failed To Open Driver" message. I figured out that I obviously needed to upgrade my software and drivers. I did some research online and was told I needed to install the new CanoScan software and driver from the Canon website. This scanner model is technically not supported by Snow Leopard, but some people got it to work!! Well...I tried that, followed all instructions correctly, then restarted my Imac and replugged my scanner USB cord. I opened the ScanGear software again, but I still have the missing driver message!! I've been trying several little tricks to get it work, but still nothing. I'm at the point where I need to start from scratch and uninstall everything related to the scanner, but I'm not sure how to do that correctly either, removing all the orphaned data! Can someone please give me a step-by-step process what I need to do?

Guys, thanks for this. I've had similar problems but with your help and others solved both issues for the Toolbox and Driver (OS X10.6.8):
Make sure all previous drivers downloads etc are deleted, inc the DMG files etc and disconnect the scanner.
You can then download the latest Toolbox from the UK site [dated Feb 2011] (it doesn't require you to reboot, for some strange reason??). Then download the latest driver from the Australian site. You have to reboot then.
Everything seems to work fine. No preview as before unfrotunately but goes a treat. Hope that helps guys.

  • Remote Desktop and remote USB scanner

Hello, We currently use NeatWorks to scan our company receipts and docs. Several of our employees access the NeatWorks database remotely, via a locally installed NeatWorks application, the connection we use to the file is the simple Finder 'Connect to Server'. Because NeatWorks is not networkable, we access it one at a time.
The problem is the Neatworks database is huge, it can take 20 minutes to load remotely.
Our solution to this would be to use Remote Desktop to access our server that has the application and database for a quick load. The problem is scanning.
Can Remote Desktop connect to the users local USB scanner so that the scans go directly to the remote database? If not, is there any other elegant solution to this remote scan problem?
We were hoping to find a networkable program to replace NeatWorks that wouldn't load the entire database, just an index perhaps.
Thanks a million for any input!
    John

Can the NeatWorks application on the server, see, connect to the USB scanner device on the user end.
That would not be a function of Apple Remote Desktop. The NeatWorks software would need to have code to access a remote scanner, either natively or using the Scanner Sharing feature of Mac OS X 10.6 (if that will support the USB scanner you're using).

  • Acrobat 9 Standard won't recognize Canon Lide 200 Scanner

My recently installed Acrobat 9 Standard won't recognize my  Canon Lide 200 scanner even though Adobe Photoshop CS2 does.  I don't know what the problem is and how to solve it.

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 was recently installed on new Vista 64bit computer and functions with all programs and even prints to my Dell 1600n printer, but when I try to scan from the printer, it causes this error message and shuts Acrobat down:
"ADOBE ACROBAT HAS STOPED WORKING A Problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I have lived with this since I bought the computer a month ago. Still no solution from Adobe and no response to an email that I sent to adobe support.

  • No driver for Canon Lide 80 scanner?

I recently bought a Mac Mini with Lion installed to replace my old Windows PC and upgraded my late 2009 Imac to Lion to be able to use iCloud between my UK base and my second home in France. Everything went well until I realised that neither my Canon Lide 80 scanner or my Canoscan 4400F wwould work with Lion. I am waiting for a responsse from Canon but, meanwhile, any ideas for a workaround? My trusty old HP 920C printer is recognised as a generic printer and works fine but, it seems, there are no generic scanner drivers.

Thank you John. Vuescan worked for my Canoscan 4400F but, in fact, led me back to Canon support where the driver and toolbox, formerly unavailable, had been updated to my scanner. A very satisfying solution.

  • Upgraded to OS X 10.9 and now cannot connect to Canoscan LIDE 90 Scanner. Cant find a new driver anywhere. Any ideas??

I have upgraded to OS X 10.9 and now I cannot connect to my Canoscan LIDE 90 Scanner. Cant find a new driver anywhere. Any ideas??

Like Dan White, I have found that I can still run the Lide 90 under Mavericks. As Dan says, the buttons on the front of the scanner don't work but I rarely if ever used them.
I have just tested the scanner using Acrobat Pro and it loads up the Scangear software to capture the scan, with no problems at all. I didn't have to reinstall anything as it was all there already and working in Mountain Lion. Photoshop CS 5.1 is different; it does not recognise the scanner, presumably because it can't find a TWAIN driver for it. Image Capture does not recognise the scanner either, but I don't have the latest (10.8) Canon MP Explorer and Explorer Opener software installed.

  • LiDE 200 "scanner driver is not installed" error

I am struggling on a MacBook Pro to restore functionality of a Canon LiDE 200 scanner after it mysteriously began returning the error message:
The scanner driver supported by this software is not installed. Install again and then retry.
The error first appeared under 10.5.8. Troubleshooting that I've attempted:
Downloading new versions of driver (1482) and MP Navigator EX (2.04) from Canon's website
Downloading Apple's Canon printer drivers version 2.3
Logging in as a "test user" and attempting to scan through the Canon application as well as Image Capture.
    No luck
I then loaded that software onto a different laptop computer, which is running 10.6.3. The scanner works fine.
So I returned to the MacBook Pro and updated it with 10.6.3 (using a simple update to the software, rather than remove and replace etc), then loaded all the Canon software once again. Still getting the same error.
Next I opened the Canon application on my second laptop and inspected the processes in Activity Monitor to find every active file, which I then carefully deleted from the MacBook Pro. I also deleted all preferences that I could find. Then, again, I re-loaded the Canon and Apple software and updates. Still getting the error message.
    Stumped.

    Hello Doug,
I also have a LiDE200 and based on your recent findings I have been checking my user Library for files relating to the scanner, however there does not appear to be anything.
Under the root Library there is the Image Capture folder and inside is the Devices folder which has the Canon IJScanner plugin. This is the ICA plugin which is used by Image Capture and Preview. Also inside the Image Capture folder is the TWAIN Data Sources folder, which houses the LiDE200.ds file that is used by TWAIN applications, such as MP Navigator.
These are the two scanner driver resources and with their location they are available to all users. So with only the admin user account having the error there must be something within the admin library but I haven't been able to find what that could be.
Have you ever had a different model of Canon scanner or even another brand of scanner previously? I know that with a previous Canon scanner that used the CanoScan application, there was a plugin for responding to the buttons being pressed on the scanner. If this application and associated files have been brought across to the new install with you user library, then this may be causing the conflict.
I'll keep poking around today and reply with more if I find anything.

  • Re: Trouble with peripherals (CanoScan LIDE 30 Scanner & HP LaserJet 1020)

The Canon CanoScan LIDE 30 scanner didn't have any autodetection, so I want to the Canon Web site to look for drivers. I grabbed the drivers, packaged in a .dmg file, from Canon. Running the setup file, I was a bit perplexed what it wanted me to do, so I installed the drivers in the Applications directory and rebooted the system when prompted.
That did nothing - I still couldn't access the scanner. I tried a couple other places - root of the hard drive, /Library/Image Capture... nothing.
I'm at a complete loss here, and couldn't figure out how to do it.
    And the printer.
I hooked up the HP LaserJet 1020 to the Mac. Nothing happened, so I went into the Print & Fax System Utility to set it up. The printer browser was able to detect it, but there was no listing for the HP LaserJet 101 in the driver selections. Hewlett Packard doesn't offer Mac drivers for the printer.
Anything I can do to get these two peripherals working?
Feel free to CC responses to [email protected]

The Canon CanoScan LIDE 30 scanner usually installs a file "N124u-buttonmanager" in your Login items (actually the standard install used to put the "buttonmanager" for both the LiDE 20 and LiDE 30 scanners, see this User Tip: kmosx2: Looking for devices matching vendor..).
Their more recent software is better behaved: I have an all in one, and there are no Login items, everything is installed in a "Canon Utilities" folder inside "/Applications".
So, if the software you downloaded includes a "buttonmanager", make sure you choose the right one (see the User Tip) and put it in your login items (System Preferences > Accounts).

  • USB scanner problems - it's there, then it's gone

Ok, I've seen this problem on other distros too, so Arch must have something in common with them, but I'm on Arch right now, so I'll try my luck here.
I have a Fujitsu USB scanner, sane installed, udev scanner rules file installed.  My user is in the scanner and wheel groups.
lsusb finds it fine: Bus 004 Device 010: ID 04c5:10cf Fujitsu, Ltd
    USB device looks right: crw-rw-r--+ 1 root scanner 189, 392 Oct  9 15:33 ./bus/usb/004/010
sane-find-scanner finds it fine: found USB scanner (vendor=0x04c5, product=0x10cf) at libusb:004:010
"scanimage -L" works just fine the first time: device `fujitsu:libusb:004:010' is a FUJITSU fi-4340Cd scanner
But only that time, then it fails to find one.  If I strace the scanimage binary, it shows me where it's failing: ioctl(12, USBDEVFS_SETCONFIGURATION, 0x7fff94199eac) = -1 ETIMEDOUT (Connection timed out)
When it works the first time, that line of the strace output looks like this: ioctl(12, USBDEVFS_SETCONFIGURATION, 0x7fffc564cb3c) = 0
I even tried compiling libusb 1.0 into /opt/libusb and pointed sane at it, but same problem.  I'm starting to think it's a kernel problem.
    Ideas?

BTW, this is on a fresh install of Arch done yesterday: Linux groovy9 3.11.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 5 21:22:51 CEST 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux
For a plan B, if there's a straightforward way to custom compile my own kernel, I'd like to try a slightly older one to see if I have better luck.  This same model of scanner is working fine on a 3.5 kernel, for example.

  • USB scanner and OSX (HP Scanjet G2410)

    Hi Everyone,
I have a USB scanner (HP G2410) that works perfectly well on my old mac.
Now I got a new iMac running Yosemite (OSX 10.10.3) and I cannot get my scanner to be recognized by the mac (Image Capture won't see it. Same thing if I try to add a scanner in system preferences). I even tried installing HP Scan Utility but the program won't launch since it cannot find a scanner driver.
Actually it looks like I cannot find a driver for this device...
I googled the issue but it seems like everyone is saying HP is full of **** and blame them for not supporting their own devices.
There are tutorials on how to scan without HP software for network All-In-Ones, but I have a USB scanner here. No printer no Network...
Some say I need to buy a new scanner that would be compatible with Yosemite. But actually that's exactly what I did last time!!! I had a funcional HP scanner that wasn't supported anymore for the last (at the time) version of OSX and thus I bought the G2410...  Do I need to buy a new scanner everytime I change my Mac? This seems ridiculous...
Any advice? Except not buying from HP anymore...
    Best,
    -a-

Says here that Photosmart C4200 series is supported, both print & scanning.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669#HP
Scanjet driver will need to be downloaded directly from HP - if available. My 3970 isn't supported.
(when the driver is available, and folks have trouble with printing or scanning, usually "Reset Printing System" fixes it:)

  • My Aztec 1236 USB scanner stumped Tiger.

Hi. I bought an Aztec 1236 USB scanner used for five bucks. It came with nothing. I was lucky enough to find the model number. It's vintage but the price fit my post-buying-a-mac budget.
I managed to dig up a Win XP driver for it w/ the accompanying photoshop bits (not a plugin, actually had an installer). The scanner works slow, but fine. But I want my PC free to do other things.
But Tiger can't see it when I plug it in, let alone know what to do with it. I tried the Image Capture device browser TWAIN trick--and it ain't showing. I can't find a Mac OS X driver for it anywhere, not even w/ Google.
Anybody know how I can save the hundred bucks and avoid buying a new scanner? Anybody found a Tiger driver for my classy, antique flatbed?

I don't know where you get your information but Apple doesn't claim "it just works with everything." No computer can truly make that claim. Apple does, however, provide a list of known compatible devices. Consulting this available information would help you avoid making a mistake by purchasing incompatible hardware.
It's up to the peripheral manufacturer to make compatible drivers. If your scanner doesn't work on a Mac then the problem is with its manufacturer not with Apple.
You purchased a cheap used scanner without knowing in advance whether a driver would be available for the Mac. This is your oversight. Ranting at Apple (which, btw, is not appropriate here) is simply trying to shift the blame from where it really lies.
