Lien Inter-PDF

Bonjour,

  • I have just made an Interative PDF (page curl) – will all Acrobat Readers open this?

    It will be uploaded onto a website for download & needs to be viewed by as many people as possible (they may be unable to update their Acrobat Readers due to company policy).
    Info:
    Version – 1.7
    Dimension – 1190x841 px
    Content creator – Adobe Indesign CS5 (7.0)
    Encoding software – Adobe PDF Library 9.9
    Thanks!

    If you enabled the page curl option when exporting from InDesign you have NOT made a PDF file.
    You have made a SWF file inside a PDF file.
    It will not work on mobile devices, in non-Adobe Reader software, it's not accessible nor searchable and cannot be printed.
    PDF files do not support page curl - turn that off and InDesign will export a real PDF of your document.

  • Interative pdfs- reducing file size?

    Hi again,
    I have created a page turning pdf and cannot work out how to reduce the file size of this.I have tried reducing the size of the jpeg to minimum in ad settings and obviously using 72dpi with a result in no reduction of file size. Is there anything anyone can think of just to get it down y 1 meg? I want to change the pdf from 6.4 to <5mg to make it email friendly! If have have not been very clear, please feel free to ask me more questions if you think you may be able to help.
    Many thanks,
    Sam

    PDF files don't support "page-turning", so what you've made is a single-page PDF file containing one full-page Flash annotation. Inside that is a SWF (usually a whole bunch of them) which contains your actual document, and nothing Acrobat does with PDF compression settings will have any bearing on the contents of embedded SWF files - the only way to do that is to change the quality settings in the original application that's exporting the SWFs.

    I designed in InDesign, exported as Interactive PDF, opened in Pro, saved with extended options.
    I have both Pro XI and the most recent version of Reader. (Mac os x)
    I actually used a template to design the form. Would this somehow be causing an issue??
    Here's a link to the form-- (website is still being developed.)

  • Indesign CS5 Interactive PDF not really an Interactive PDF?

    I have created an online Interactive SWF file using Indesign for a corporate Newsletter and it works fine.
    However, when asked if I could produce a PDF version I thought "sure, just convert it to an Interactive PDF!"
    I was shocked to find that it does not work and that basically I had to rip the whole thing apart and rebuild it to make it a PDF, as creating hyperlinks instead of button actions to me is not an Interative PDF, which is all it seems to infer.
    All of the Object States had to be dismantled and placed on seperate pages.
    None of the Buttons created to go to different pages worked anymore, I had to remove the button states from the objects and convert them using Hyperlinks and Hyperlink Destinations, a lot of work.
    Surely, since Adobe own Indesign and also own Acrobat it would be possible to convert an Indesign Project to PDF and have the buttons work correctly?
    Also, none of the animations work, these had to be scrapped.
    Any plans for a future release to rectify this and the reduce workflow?

    If you spent any time looking at these features you would have seen that they are clearly SWF only.
    The workaround for this is to export the SWF and place it in a PDF.

  • Inerative JPG in PDF

    I am making an interative PDF file that is an online application form.  Typically people have filled out the form, saved and emailed or printed it and then mailed it.
    They have had to include pictures as part of the applicaiton.
    I want to create an interactive box where a person can select a button or some function, and browse to a picture on their computer and insert that picture into the application before saving it and emailing/submitting it.
    Is this possible?
    I notice there are javascript options for special boxes.
    Is this beyond what Acrobat can do?

    You can create a button that will do what you want and it will work with Acrobat. See the "buttonImportIcon" JavaScript field method in the Acrobat JavaScript documentation for more information. Unfortunately, Adobe has decided to place a silly and pointless restriction that prevents it from working with the more recent versions of Adobe Reader. This is even more bizarre and pointless in the face of the image field available with LiveCycle Designer that works with Reader. Other PDF viewers such as the free Foxit Reader allow users to attach images (and movies and files). I just recently submitted another feature request about this in the forum here. Feel free to submit your own.

  • Making interactive PDFs...Is prototype not fully functional?

    I am a business guy (technically savy) who is interested in creating interative PDFs (primarily navigation).
    The mantra of fireworks, design once, export to many is very appealing.  But I don't understand why it refers to the final product as a prototype.
    question 1) The training videos refer to the final interactive PDF created as a prototype.  Why?  What makes it a prototype?  Why isn't it a fully fuctional interactive PDF that can be made more sophisticated by adding forms, etc. ?  If it is a prototype, what program do you use to make it fully functional?  Is that InDesign?  Is Fireworks merly a strating point, to be finished in InDesign? What is disabled to make it only a prototype?
    question 2) This is the same question, but about export to CSS & Images (web site).  I realize you can add far more functinality with Dreamweaver, but isn't the export a fully functional (if simple), web sight?  What is disabled to make it only a prototype?
    Prototype implies to me that it does not produce a useable final product. It has to be made useable or finished by another product.
    THanks!
    Bob

    I think the term "prototype" is being bandied about a bit too liberally <grin>. Here's my viewpoint:
    Fireworks can produce finished final artwork for screen. I do this all the time as do many other much more talented Fireworks users.
    From a web site and application perspective, Fireworks is a prototyping tool. It doesn't build final web sites for applications; it just builds the graphical shell that other applications (such as DW or FC) can use for building out the final product. As a prototyping tool, you can create very realistic representations of the final product, for client feedback and review and to a degree, user testing. One option for gaining feedback from the client is the PDF export. Combined with Acrobat Pro,  you can activate the commenting feature and then this PDF gives you and the client the ability to place feedback right in the PDF just by using Acrobat Reader. In this way it can be a useful tool while designing the site or application, and getting specific feedback from the client within the graphical prototype.
    The PDF Export could also be a final product, IMO, depending on it's end use. There is no rollover support, video or audio support from within Fireworks or the export process. Likewise for transitional effects. Interactivity though, using the rectangular slice or hotspot tools, is fully functional.  Keep in mind though, that default print resolution in FW is 72 ppi. If you plan on printing out this PDF, you'll want to start with a higher resolution for better printing quality.

  • Checkboxes don't print in interactive PDF

    Hi Guys
    Hoping a PDF guru can help out on an interative PDF problem we are having.
    We have created PDF forms in InDesign CS6 with text fields and also checkboxes.
    When these forms are filed out in Acrobat they seem to save all of the info OK, but for some reason when they are printed the checkboxes that have been checed do not print – they all print as blank check boxes.
    Any ideas would be really appreaciated

    Thanks Steve!
    Is this something I can set as default as most users will just hit print?

  • SWF Export, no font showing in Acrobat and zoom border problem (Acrobat & Reader) - Indesign CS6

    Hi Everyone,
    If anyone could help me on this that would be great, I've spent hours on the forums and manuals to no avail.
    I'm making an interactive PDF brochure in Indesign for one of our new products and I'm having issues (actual or perceived??!!) with the SWF export and PDF creation.  I'm placing animations and video in the INDD, exporting it as an SWF (with the text option as Flash Classic Text) and then opening the SWF (not importing to a word doc or anything, just opening the SWF) with Acrobat using the advanced options to import the video resources and to enable the content when the page is opened.  I then save the file as a PDF.  In the PDF everything works as it should, the animations, the buttons, the video plays and so on.  Great.. hmm not quite.
    The trouble I am having is that all the content of the SWF when viewed in Acrobat seems to be getting rasterised/flattened - is this correct?  After the SWF is opened, Acrobat indicates no fonts in the fonts tab in the document properties so when the SWF is zoomed in Acrobat, or the saved PDF in Reader, the font gets pixelated and the document is not searchable/text can not be highlighted.  The images are not selectable either - it is as if the entire page has been flattened to one image.  Is there a way to stop this so that the SWF opened with Acrobat retains the font and individual images like a normal PDF?  Do I have to open the SWF in Flash first to set some parameters or something?  Is there something I am doing wrong when exprting the SWF from Indesign?  I think I have tried about every possible export combination.  When I open the .HMTL (exported at the same time as the SWF from Indesign) in a browser, the same happens.  All the animations work but the text appears to be rasterised/flattened/not searchable.  Sorry if I'm not using the correct terminology.
    I have tried importing the SWF back into another new INDD and exporting that as an interactive PDF but then the video does not work.  I suppose I could try exporting all the individual animations as SWFs, importing them all and trying to get them to work with the video but I can see that will take quite some time and does not seem to be a guaranteed solution from what I have read on the forums - video playback being the issue.
    Another problem is that when the SWF, or saved PDF, is zoomed in Acrobat/Reader between approx 150% and 210% a thick white border appears in the document and the content is squashed into the middle creating a slightly pixelated and narrow page.  When I zoom out from the page I get a small white line on the right hand border at around 70% zoom.  Please see images.  Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?
    On another, sort of related topic, my timing panel went blank yesterday and was not showing any animations in documents that it had been used to order and synch animations on page load as well as new documents.  The panel was blank.  I updated to V8.0.1 and the panel sprang back into life - hope that helps anyone else finding the same problem.
    I am not very familiar with Indesign/Acrobat/Flash so I guess all the above could be what I'm doing or I could be asking  really dumb questions - apologies from a newbie.
    Best,
    Emily

    Hi All,
    I have now pretty much solved all the issues by creating the SWF in Flash rather than Indesign.  I would advise anyone looking to create an interative PDF with animation and interactivity to go with Flash from the start.  While Flash is a little more involved to create the same effects as Indesign, the extra time taken will ensure a more controllable and better looking PDF in terms of text quality, scalability and so on.  Plus you will not spend days trying to get video to work along side imported SWF etc in Indesign.  One of the best controls in Flash is being able to set the stage.scaleMode for the document so the PDF still looks crisp when zooming, no white borders etc.  So, create the .fla, export to .SWF, open the .SWF with Acrobat, modify the advanced settings to enable start on page load and save as a PDF.  If you don't know Flash, I didn't a couple of days ago, watch a couple of tutorials on Youtube.. buttons, tweens, embedding video and you'll be ready.  Don't be put off by ActionScript, there are really handy Code Snippets in CS6 that do all the heavy lifting for you.
    Sorry Indesign!

  • Export an alternate layout from a indesign book

    Hello,
    I'm working on a big file, which has been, for size reasons, separated in multiple files that have then been assembled in an indesign book
    Problem: This document is edited for print and also as an interactive pdf for ipad, which is why I have created an alternate layout for the ipad version, which contains a navigation based on hyperlinks, linking different pages and documents from the Book.
    But here is the thing, when exporting the whole book to pdf (using the Indesign Book panel), I can't choose the layout I want to export, as I can do when I export from a single document with several alternate layouts
    What I get when I export from a single file with two alternate layouts to interactive pdf
    What I get when I export the Indesign Book with two alternate layouts to an interative pdf
    Why is that? Is there a way I can export only one layout without having to RE-assemble the whole document into one file?
    If I export the whole book as it is, my two alternate layouts are just following each other and it's a big mess, not to mention the hyperlinks don't work anymore.
    Also, if the only way is to make one file, the file is then too heavy to be worked with, it's 280 pages long, with HD images on every page ( and the alternate layouts double the pages...)
    Does anyone have a solution?

    You mean, breaking the document into two or three files and then exporting each of these and then assembling the pdf files?
    But then the hyperlinks from one doc to another don't work. I tried it already.
    The problem is that I need to export ALL of these documents into ONE pdf because of the interactivity of the hyperlinks.

  • IWDPDFDocumentCreationContext Interface - no static text rendered

    WebDynPro java.  Netweaver 2004s
    Adobe LiveCycleDesigner 7.1 I believe (how can I confirm?)
    I am using the IWDPDFDocumentCreationContext to render a non-interative PDF form.  When the pdf is rendered, none of the static text, horizontal lines, page headers are displayed.  They ARE displayed in the PDF Preview tab of the interactive LiveCycleDesigner.  The data layout that is taken from the context node is displayed correctly.
    I am using the following code:
           InputStream xdpStream  = new FileInputStream(xdpFilename);
           ByteArrayOutputStream templateSourceOutputStream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
           IOUtil.write(xdpStream, templateSourceOutputStream);
    IWDPDFDocumentCreationContext pdfContext =     WDPDFDocumentFactory.getDocumentHandler().getDocumentCreationContext();
                      pdfContext.setTemplate(templateSourceOutputStream);
           pdfContext.setData(WDInteractiveFormHelper.getContextDataAsStream(wdContext.nodeOrderTemplate()));
           IWDPDFDocument pdf = pdfContext.execute(); //the PDF is created
           ByteArrayOutputStream pdfOutputStream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
           IOUtil.write(pdf.getPDFAsStream(), pdfOutputStream);
           String pdfFileName = "OrderTemplate.pdf";
           FileWriter fileWriter = new FileWriter(pdfFileName);
           fileWriter.write(pdfOutputStream.toString());
           fileWriter.close();

    Once again thanks Steven,
    I don't think I've explained my self in the right way.
    In GeneratorText_en.properties I can see these definitions:
    SAVE_BUTTON_LABEL = &Save
    could you please explain if "&Save" is the end value (in that case what means the "&") or a reference to a variable where the global definition of "&Save" is defined. If its a reference one could only change the value once instead of changing it several times.
    SELECT_TITLE = Select {0}
    Whats the porpoise of {0} ?

  • Two versions of 1 Font showing in Acrobat, one is licensed

    We have a set of fonts (Hallmarke) that we purchased quite a few years ago. We are able to postscript from In Design and then convert the postscript to PDF via Acrobat, but the Hallmarke fonts are coming over as not embedded.
    When we look in the PDF conversion settings under Fonts and hit Edit, there are two versions of each of the Hallmarke fonts, one without a padlock and one with. But, when we look at Fonts under the Windows control panel it only lists one copy of each of the Hallmarke fonts.
    How do we use the unlocked version to we can embed the fonts in our PDF for printing?

  • PDF from 9.0 results in weird inter- and intra-word spacing. Cause?

    Running Framemaker Version 9.0p250 on Windows XP.
    I printed a book using the Adobe PDF printer driver. There are scattered instances where there are significant spaces (between 3 and 12 n-spaces) between consecutive letters of a word or between two words. For example:
    Inter-word spacing examples:      main    processes employed and          the functional
    Intra-word spacing examples:      audi         t         Descrip                        tion
    These spaces do not exist in the Framemaker source files. In addition, when I copy the content containing these spaces to the Clipboard and then paste them into this message, the odd spacing disappears. However, when I print the pages containing these errors to my local or network printers, the pages print with the strange spacing intact.
    I checked maker.ini and the setting is "DisplayUsingPrinterMetrics=On" as expected.
    Any help much appreciated!
    Val

    Information about the hotfix is here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2008/07/hotfix_for_framemaker_1.html
    PS Hotfix KB 952909
    Over the years I've occasionally seen extremely large spaces like that but it was always resolved by a reboot.
