LifeDrive startup screen only (booting problem)

Hi
I am Bashir Ahmad, having Plamone LifeDrive. Today when the LifeDrive is fully charged And wanted to turn on. After pressing the power button it shows only the startup screen. It seems it is not booting (windows terminology). And hangs at the startup shows "PLAMONE".
What I did:
(1) The reset button is pressed still the same problem.
(2) Connected with PC running Windows XP professional, computer first display a balloon near the clock stating new device is found but after a while it says "USB Device not recognized".
(3) When connected to AC adopter automatically shows only the startup screen And not moving on to load operating system.
Please tell me how can this booting problem be solved?
Thank you.
Bashir Ahmad

Hi Dear Alan G.
Thank you for the quick reply and sorry for the my late response.
(a)When the LifeDrive is restarted I can hear the hard disk spanning (like the sound of analogy wall clock) for 1 minutes then it become silent.
(b) When I shake the device gently the motion of hard disk can be hear.
(c)Further if it is plugged into AC power the light (LED) at the top shows orange (amber) color and never changes the color.
Today when I tried "hard reset" for this
(1) The power button is pressed and hold to right direction then the reset button is pressed gently.
(2) From the menu "Secure erase" is selected after that anther screen can just with work "secure erase".
(3) There was no other option therefore I wait for one hour but there was no progres
(4) Also nothing when the LifeDrive is restarted it stuck at the startup with "plamone" showing on the screen.
Please tell me what should I do?
With best regards;
Bashir Ahmad.

  • Grey screen on boot problem

    Hi There,
I have a clean Vista install on a late 2008 Macbook aluminum. Some issues but love the combination. However, when booting the computer starts with a grey screen that lasts a long time before booting Vista. Feels like the software is still looking for a OSX partition. Anyone know of a registry entry/ fix for this?
    Cheers,
    BaliApple

    Hi.
Bali i'm new to MBP too but as far as i know there isn't any registry entry the registry part belongs to windows it has nothing to do with that grey screen. I think it might be the EFI but i dont't know. I'm still learning . I have the same problem in a way. When i power on the MBP that grey screen apears for more then a minute. After that a black screen with an "_" in the left side of the screen for another ~3m. I have tried PRAM reset and no result. The weird thing is that i haven`t done anything i only reinstalled my OS ( typically windows ). I haven`t touched the EFI partition either. What else can i try. Ow and one more question: If i upgrade the HDD how can this influence the MBP considering that it won't have an EFI partition anymore. Cheers.
by the way here is some info:

What can I do to boot?

Restart with the Option key held down.
If the internal drive shows up, it's the PRAM battery.
If it doesn't, insert a compatible Mac OS 9 or X install disk, click the button with the circular arrow, and either repair the internal drive or install a new OS on it. If it doesn't show up in Disk First Aid(9) or the Disk Utility(X), it's either not plugged in or needs to be replaced.

It sounds a LOT like a dead hard drive, running diagnostics would be a good place to start.

  • I'm only booting to the gray screen...help!

There's something going on, when I turn my computer on, it only boots the the gray apple screen with a progress wheel, no further. I cannot get it to boot in safe mode, and my problem is worse because my optical drive hasn't worked in a long time (I've been using an external drive), so I can't reinstall the software.
    Thoughts?

Welcome to Apple Discussions, Friends with Tigger and andylambert17.
From your desciptions it sounds like both PowerBooks are suffering from an internal hard drive failure of some kind.
There are commonly two kinds of drive failures - either related to a directory corruption or mechanical failure. If it is due to directory corruption then there is a reasonable chance that DiskWarrior might be able to fix it.
However if it is mechanical failure then the only option is to replace the drive. There will have been previous warning symptoms like unusual noises, sluggish performance, problems accessing files/applications or startup issues.
Data recovery, if required, might be possible with Data Rescue or via an expensive professional data recovery service.
If feasible it will be a good idea to run the Apple Hardware Test - but, of course, a working optical drive is needed.
On the other hand, if you have a cloned, bootable, backup on an external FireWire drive then try restarting from that. Or if you have access to another FW-equipped Mac then you can use FireWire Target Disk Mode. You can then test the internal drive using Disk Utility. Look out for the SMART status at the bottom of the DU window. If it says anything other than "Verified" then the drive is in trouble.

  • OS X 10.10.3 can't boot past startup screen

I've updated my 2009 iMac to OS X 10.10.3 and it can't be booted to the login screen after that. The progress bar will be stuck at 50% forever on the startup screen — the longest I've waited was about a day and the iMac was really hot as well. I tried getting into Recovery Mode and did a disk repair and it managed to repair 4 permission errors, but there's one permission that persisted and it says (Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired). I rebooted again but it still can't boot past the startup screen.
Unfortunately, I can't reformat OS X because my backup copy from Time Machine has been outdated for a few months as I haven't bought another backup drive to continue using it.
One of the options that I could think of is to reinstall another copy of OS X from Recovery Mode, as it is able to retain my data files. But the problem is that my iMac has only 5 GB of free space, and it doesn't allow me to do that. Is there a way to use the Terminal in Recovery Mode to delete some of my apps and files so that I could install a copy of OS X? Or are there any other ways to solve it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I've managed to solve this issue by using a very simple and straightforward method.
I remembered Macs have this nifty feature called FireWire Target Disk Mode by pressing and holding "T" on the keyboard the moment you turn it on. So I went to get myself a FireWire 800 cable and connect it to my MacBook Pro, activated FireWire Target Disk Mode on my iMac (Target) and browse the files from my MacBook Pro (Host). I deleted some files, recovered some free space, disconnect, reboot, reinstall OS X in Recovery Mode and — voila! — my iMac is back running OS X Yosemite with all my data files and settings again.

  • Windows Vista and Windows 7 Only Boots to a black screen with a mouse cursor

Windows Vista and Windows 7 Only Boots to  a black screen with a mouse cursor after I installed Mcafee Internet Security.
Hi I installed 1of 3 McAfee Internet Security protections on my HP laptop a few weeks ago with no issues. I Have a Dell XPS 420 desk top with Windows Vista operating
system, it’s never had any issues, until 2 nights ago I installed McAfee Internet Security (detected incompatible files and will remove) pc now only boots up to a black screen with a mouse cursor, it will show the windows logo and a hash symbol floating around
the screen. Now 2 weeks ago I installed the same program on my Dell all in one desk top with Windows 7, the same issue happen but that pc has no screen activity, I tried a back to factory reboot on this one, still black screen.

    Hi,
Please install the compatible version of McAfee Internet Security:

if you have startup issue, you can boot into Safe Mode to uninstall the problematic software to go back into Windows.

  • IPhone 5 will not boot up past startup screen after attempted update to iOS 8. Not recognized by computer.

Like everyone else today, I attempted to make the move to iOS 8, using my Mac's iTunes. All was running smoothly, the progress bar was nearing the end when I received the error that "the iPhone software update server could not be contacted." With a now useless phone, I restarted it, hoping for the best as I could do nothing. I am now stuck with a phone which will turn on to the white startup screen and black Apple Logo, then instantly shut down, leaving me to repeat the process. If I hold down the home button, I can enter what seems to be "Recovery Mode," with a red iTunes Logo, as opposed to the usual blue. From here, all internet sources I have found suggest that I should restore the phone, but that's really where I hit the problem. When I plug the phone in, when in Recovery Mode, I simply receive the "iPhone software update server could not be contacted" error again, leaving the phone not recognized by iTunes. In non-recovery mode, the phone appears to simply turn off so fast that iTunes has no time to find it.
Any one with similar problems or solutions?

    This what happened to my iPhone 5 after I updated to iOS 8.0;
The update process was done smootly without problems thru
    Over the Air.
Now when I cold start/boot my iPhone 5, my apple logo appears as it was
in iOS 7, but after 30 seconds or so, my Apple Logo dissappears the
screen goes black for 5-6 seconds, but then viola! I am at the Log-On
screen... Then I start using my iPhone.
Just like Chris above, I have done 10 reboots, (complete shut down and
    restart), its always the same...
Other than this, my iPhone works just fine. I will not re-install the iOS.
From my past experience, re-installing the iOS does not change
    these minor differences...

  • My presario b1900 only boots normally when a screen lid closed

Hi im a compaq presario b1900 user and suddenly started to have a booting problem since i mistakenly closed the laptop lid in full while booting and opened it up right after.
Then, my laptop only boots perfectly when the lid is almost closed under rougly 30 degrees - whenever i switch on my laptop with the screen lid open, it shuts down after 2 secs and automatically reboots, but then shuts down again ,and on and on.
But after once it goes into window, it works perfectly with the lid open and works well as log-on and off at standby mode.
It only shows a problem when booting after powered on.
is it because my HDD got damaged from a sudden screen lid close??
Or should i change HDD or is it a window issue??

Thank you so much for replying; unfortunately, my screen had already gone gray by the time I read your reply and I had to take in to the Genius Bar. My laptop's up and running, but the main problem is still unknown and I'll have to buy a new one soon. Thanks again!

  • Brand new MBP will only boot to blue screen

    Help!
Worked fine for about an hour or two and then completely locked up. I had to do a forced shutdown to get it to turn off.. But now it will only boot to this weird blue screen with just a cursor.
    Any ideas?

Actually, for a brand new machine a clean install is not a bad idea.
The original disc images are copied in bulk. The tiniest little glitch can cause later problems. It really doesn't add that much time to the initial setup process and you can also discount it as a cause if the problem re-occurs.
You should not have to do a clean install again.

  • MSI K8t NEO + Audigy Boot Problem only when power is unplugged on the PSU

I ran into a really weird problem today.
I switched the ps off by reaching back and pressing the button. I repress the button to power on the ps, then I click on the button in the fron of the case to power up the machine. System keeps rebooting itself every 1 sec. Bracket shows 4 red lights. In the manual, it says it means bad cpu. I remove the audigy and it boots fine. I install the audigy, 4 red lights.
So, This time instead of turning the puter off by using the button on ps. I used the button on the case by holding it down for 5 seconds. I reboot and puter boots normally.
So the problem is, if i turn the puter off by using the button on the PS and with audigy in the syste. Nothing on screen, and puter keeps rebooting itself every one second. Solution is to turn the puter off by using the button on the case.
Has anyone ran into this problem? I have never had this kind of problem. It is really weird. Any feedback is apreciated.
Oh and it is only with audigy. I tested this with original live, and also other PCI cards like nic, and another cheap sound card. Non of these cards showed this problem.

    Cavemankr!
I never knew you could shut down the computer by holding down the start button for 5 seconds.... well I've never really had the need to...until I got this K8T Neo job. I wondered why it wouldn't turn off when I just pushed it. I've been using the PSU switch with these problems.
Yep! She booted right up. Audigy back in action. I also realized I had my PC hooked straight in the wall (while checking to see if my surge protector was working this weekend), so turning off the surge protector wasn't cutting power to the cheapo PSU.
So put me in your camp!
I'll just plug the PC straight into the UPS and keep power fed to the Enermax. I hope that was the cause of my keyboard/mouse cold boot problem also.
I'll assume the cheapo PSU will behave similarly. I don't really want to go through the swap again.
    I wonder why that happens!

  • Extremely slow boot.  How to get rid of white screen in Windows only boot.

    Hey guys I have a Windows 7 only MacBookPro 17". 2.8ghz core 2 duo, 4 gig of ram, 7200 rpm 500gb hd(passes s.m.a.r.t. btw)
It boots extremely slow. I turn the computer on and it stays at the white screen for around 20 seconds. Then it moves to Windows 7 and continues to boot from there. I have a video:
    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xc5taaslow-windows-7-boot-on-macbook-protech
In a windows only setting how would I get it to just boot Windows without going threw the white screen? It also gets hung when logging in on a black screen.
There was a post on Ubuntu forums about Ubuntu only boots about doing something to get it to only boot the MBR. I didn't really understand if this would work with Windows 7 though. Thanks for any help.

I shut down all but one of the extensions, and that seems to have resolved the problem. Thank you!
Now to figure out which extensions I need, and which I don't, because I don't have a clue. I don't remember installing most of these, I only recall one or two (nothing looks spammy like funmoods, but still don't remember when or why these were added...)

  • Stuck on startup screen; locked firmware (password) won't allow CD Boot...?

When the system began to act strange, I tried to install with a 10.5 Update/Install Disk. When the software wouldn't install ("You can not install this software on this disk."), I restarted the drive, but nothing happened. I ran Disk Utility from the 10.5 CD. I repaird the HD, and restored the permissions by pressing the "Repair", and "Repair Permissions" buttons. When it indicated that the hard drive was "OK", (using the 10.5 Install Disk,) I set the firmware password locking it to keep others from starting with a CD.
Now, the startup screen will not display any users; the blue "load" indicator will not complete, and appears to be stuck. First I tried holding down the "C" key, but it wouldn't start from the CD. Then I tried re-setting the PBG4 to factory settings by holding down the option, command, "P" and "R" keys, but it won't make the second "reboot" sound, and continues with the blue "start-up" indicator. (I'm in real trouble, because I'm supposed to have my College Papers ready by this weekend, but they're stuck on my computer.) Does anyone have any sollutions??? Pleeeeeease help; I'l l b u y y o u s o m e c a n d y!

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Usually you get a 'can't install on this disk' when you try to use a gray-faced system disk from another system, like MacBook or iMac or other non-Powerbook. Those disks are locked to the systems they are distributed with. The only way to upgrade to 10.5 is with a black-faced retail disk.
Have you tried starting the system holding the alt/option key down? That should prompt you for the firmware password, then give give you a choice of device to boot from.
You didn't indicate why your system was beginning to act strange, so don't know if that has any bearing on your current start issues.
