LIFO/FIFO relevancy

Dear all,
In material master accounting view 2, there is one tab LIFO/FIFO-relevant.
what is the relevancy of this checkbox?
Pl explain it in detail..
thanks
Ranjeetsinh

Dear Mr.Ranjeet,
As far I know very rarely this is used.
This is related to valuation as per the movement type.
But i will suggest you to post the same in
MM/FI forums.
Please check the help from SAP.
LIFO/FIFO-relevant
Determines whether the material or the movement type is relevant to LIFO and FIFO valuation.
Movement type
A classification key indicating the type of material movement (for example, goods receipt, goods issue, physical stock transfer).
The movement type enables the system to find predefined posting rules determining how the accounts of the financial accounting system (stock and consumption accounts) are to be posted and how the stock fields in the material master record are to be updated.
LIFO
LIFO valuation procedure
The separate valuation of the increase or decrease in the stock quantity of a material for different accounting periods (for example, fiscal year or month). (LIFO is the abbreviation of "last in, first out".)
The LIFO valuation procedure for stocks (inventories) is based on the assumption that the material acquired most recently is used or consumed first. When new stock is acquired or consumed, there is no change in the value of older stocks. As a result, price inflation cannot lead to an overvaluation of older stocks. Phantom (illusory) profits are thus avoided.

  • ABC analysis & LIFO / FIFO evaluation

    Hi friends
I am working in an implementation project
    1. My client requirs to carry out ABC analysis.
Does it need any configuration ...... Please tell me how to carry out ABC analysis.I also want to show them on SAND BOX & Development server ... What i will have to do ...?
2.Does any body knows about LIFO / FIFO analysis ?I also have to show them in SAND BOX as wel in development server..

    hi
Go to se16 and enter the table MARC
and pull the material based on the field MAABC for A,B or C
    or you can do by
The A B C status is assigned in the materials master...
From the following reports the analysis can be done..
    MC40
    MC41
For LIFO / FIFO analysis check link
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/47/61071349f011d1894c0000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
For doing any testing in Sandbox or Development Server you need to amintain masterdata there

  • Batch Selection LIFO/FIFO

    Hi experts,
I've read many threads, wikis, websites about how to customize the batch selection FIFO or LIFO.
While testing the settings, trying to to a Mvt 201 from MB1A, I've seen in the screen "Goods Movement: Storage Location and Batch Selection" that we can to through the menu to "Default Value"-->FIFO (or LIFO). How are these menu options linked with the characteristics we have created? or to the strategy type? or the sort sequence?or whatever?
I haven't found any reference to none of this menu options in no post or web.
Does anybody know how are these menu options suppose to work?
    Thanks

    hI,
Since most of the batches are managed on shelf life , sap has made it as standard functionality to behave the batch determination to be FIFO/LIFO .

  • FIFO Valuation w/o ML

    Hi
Want to take the opinion of experts on this...
    1. If I want to have my stock valued on FIFO basis on Month end - Can it be done w/o ML?? ( As far as my understanding goes, it is possible)
If any one can throw a brief light on the process, it would be great... Does FIFO valuation run at month end, posts to FI books?? If yes, Whats the Accounting entry and which keys in OBYC I need to maintain
    2. I would need ML only if I want values of the stock as well as consumption based on FIFO on real time basis.... Is this assumption correct??
    3. In the 1 above, I think it can give only stock balances based on FIFO.... But not consumption values.... Am I right??
    4. If at all I want to derive Consumption values based on FIFO w/o ML - I have a work around in mind.. Just wanted to take opinon on the same
    a. Activate Purchase Based Accounting - it would post to P&L also along with Stock a/c.
    b. Do FIFO run and it would post to the stock accounts.
    c. If we calculate (by way of ABAP report): Op Stock based on FIFO + Purchase account mentioned in 4.a - Cl Stock Value based on FIFO run - This should also give us the Consumption based on FIFO....
    br, Ajay M

    Hi Ajay,
just focussing on your point 1.
"1. If I want to have my stock valued on FIFO basis on Month end - Can it be done w/o ML?? ( As far as my understanding goes, it is possible)
If any one can throw a brief light on the process, it would be great... Does FIFO valuation run at month end, posts to FI books?? If yes, Whats the Accounting entry and which keys in OBYC I need to maintain?"
YES, FIFO valuation can be done at period end w/o ML.
The process can look like that:
Customizing: Materials Management /  Valuation and account assignment / Balance sheet valuation procedures / configure LIFO / FIFO Methods.
Go through the steps in "general information", most of them are self-explaining, the interesting thing is the "define LIFO/FIFO relevant movement types", which might be different from client to client (maybe they have own defined movement types,...).
Also "define LIFO/FIFO methods" is interesting because of the difference of calculating FIFO values based on "single receipts" or not. The difference is well explained in the SAP docu, generally I found the SAP docu for FIFO helpful when I first set up this process on a client system.
Overall, FIFO customizing is not a big thing...
    The process itself is like:
Executing MRF4 (or schedule it as a periodically batch job which updates new material masters where the indicator is not set so far).
Using MRF3 to create the document extract (which contains all the necessary info to valuate your stock quantity).
At the end MRF1 to calculate the FIFO value. Here the push button "Tolerances" is interesting which allows client specific settings under which circumstances a FIFO value is calculated or replaced by an alternative value.
The result itself is NOT posted to accounting, but you can store the information in a price field in accounting 2 view in material master (example: tax price 2). And with this information you can use MRN0 to post the FIFO value if you want to. Here don't define a market price source, use tax price 2 as the only comparison price and if FIFO value is lower then the "actual" price in material master, you can create a price change posting based on the FIFO information.
Guess that answers the OBYC entries also.
    Best regards, Christian

  • FIFO Valuation within MM (without WM)

    Hello SAP-Experts,
I want to ask you how to customize the system with t.c. spro and how to setup material master
to establish the FIFO valuation for some specific materials (e.g. for one or more material type(s)) without any WM functionalities.
What I read in this forums were the following, but I miss a thin red line or rather a guide, and I miss complete information on this:
    1. Batch Management has to be enabled in customizing and material master.
    => customizing: logistics general - batch management - ???
=> material master: set indicator for batch management to active (is that all?)
... and how to make sure that when using MIGO for goods movement, the batches will be found automatically without inputing anything manually?
    2. Classification has to be enabled for those material types which do need the FIFO. A class must be assigned which includes characteristics (e.g. shelf life expiration date, sth. else?)
    3. Condition records have to be maintained (why, which?)
    4. Sorting rules have to be defined for FIFO (where, how?)
    5. Then there are also LIFO/FIFO settings within SPRO-MM-Valuationetc.-Balance Sheet Valuation Procecdure-Configure LIFO/FIFO Methods.
Has this also to be used? Why, why not?
    6. For what is then the indicator in material master, Accounting view 2: "LIFO/FIFO relevant" - only for cost balance sheet?
What I need is something like a guide showing the steps which have to be done.
Then an example booking for FIFO in the system should be done as follows:
    01.01.2000: GR of material A: 2 pieces a 10 EUR = 20 EUR in sum
    05.01.2000: GR of material A: 2 pieces a 15 EUR = 30 EUR in sum
    10.01.2000: GI of material A: 3 pieces (2x10 + 1x15) = 35 EUR in sum, 15 EUR still on stock
Thank you in advance for your help!
    Gernot

    Dear,
I am also concentrating on this and 2,3 days back posted a question regarding FIFO valution without any answers.
Basing on the study, what I understood is FIFO VALUATION and FIFO picking is two different configurations to be done.
FIFO valuation is only relevant for Balance sheet valuation of material.
FIFO picking used for inventory management.
For FIFO balance sheet valaution :
    1. Activate balance sheet valuation (Trans: OMWE) - as LIFO not relevant, FIFO active.
    2. Defined LIFO/FIFO valuation levels (Trans: OMWL) - set as Plant (valuationa rea).
    3. Configured FIFO Valuation areas for year 2008.
    4. Define LIFO/FIFO method (Trans: OMWP) - as CUR - current.
    5. No changes made to movements relevant to FIFO (Trans: OMW4) no changes
    6. Selection of Material to FIFO (Trans: MRF4), in this getting error
Selected material, entered plant and selected SET indicator executing. The system giving message as 'VALUATION AREA NOT DEFINED FOR FIFO' (M8885). Here i stopped and working on it. Looking like something related FI/CO configuration required.
    For FIFO inventory picking:
You need to have a bacthmanagement activate
    Step - 1 Create Characteristics
ZLASTGRDATE - Date of last goods receipt
    Transaction code CT04
    Step - 2 Create Characteristics
    ZBATCH - Batch Number
    Transaction code CT04
    Step - 3 Create a class MRO_BATCH_FIFO_CLS
    Transaction code CL02
Step - 4 Add Characteristics ZLASTGRDATE
    and
    ZBATCH
Step - 5 Create a Condition Record Batch search Strategy
Step - 6 Select Plant and Material Key combination
    - Enter the Material code
-Select selection Criteria save and come back
    - Select Sort rule as Ascending and Enter the validity rule
Step - 7 Assign this class to the material in Classification view
    Step 8
Create the PO for the Material and post the Goods Receipts MIGO.
System will assign a batch number and also updates the Batch number and
GR Date. Post thre four GRs with different dates. first with
the current date , then some with the old dates. Sytem will captures the
    batch
number and the Gr date. This is only to study how the system
    proposes the GR dates
Step - 9 Post a Goods Issue for the material, and when you enter batchnumber
enter * and press enter. then you will observe how system propses the
quantities based on the batches and GR dates in FIFO order
This I didnt try, coz our first preference is FIFO Valuation in Balance sheet.
If you have any information regarding this point, please share with me for better results.
    Regards,
    Syed Hussain.

  • FIFO Methodology at Mat Costing

    Hi there,
Has anyone worked where the material cost of material masters was based on FIFO (and not Standard or MAP) ?
I guess it can only be done when BM is activated with split valuation ?

i am pretty sure it is possible with and without split valuation, as well as with and without batch managment.
precondition is that you select the field LIFO/FIFO relevant on the accounting screen, when you create a material master record.
read the FIFO chapter in the book for balance sheet valuation:

  • Balance sheet valuation not active (Customizing transaction OMWE)

    Hi,
For FIFO Valuation, I have done the following SPRO setting:
    1. Activate balance sheet valuation (Trans: OMWE) - as LIFO not relevant, FIFO active.
    2. Defined LIFO/FIFO valuation levels (Trans: OMWL) - set as Plant (valuation area).
    3. Configured FIFO Valuation areas for year 2008.
    4. Define LIFO/FIFO method (Trans: OMWP) - FIFO01 as CUR u2013 current
    5. No changes made to movements relevant to FIFO (Trans: OMW4);
While running the MRF1, the system is throwing the following message:
Balance sheet valuation not active (Customizing transaction OMWE)
    Message no. MY043
Pls. help in rectifying the problem.
Pls. note that I have already activated the LIFO/FIFO-relevant Check box while creating the Material.
Do I need to execute MRF4 before executing MRF1?
    Regards,

hey guys... can anyone help  me to solve this issue....

  • Fields to be activated from Material Master for product costing.

    hi guys.
our MM person is creating BDC for uploading master data.
we have to do product costing in second phase.
what fileds we have to activate now, from accouting & costing view???
is it  necessory to activate LIFO/FIFO relevancy indicator for product costing??
will it affect to inventory valuation directly???
can we actiavte the fileds afterwords???

    Dear Mr.Taj,
Where's the quantity structure field in Accounting 2 view?
Do u mean which's in Costing 1 view?
<b>Dear MR.Patil, before doing cost roll up & release all the fields should be having proper values (inputs).</b>
Later on also u can activate.I mean during material creation itself if u ensure these checks, this will help you in taking the cost rollup smoothly.
Or else you have to correct those errors at the time of costing.
    If useful reward points.

  • FIFO implementation after go-live: implications on existing data and ML

    Hello All,
We have a client who wishes to implement a FIFO stock management approach.  They have been working on SAP for a few years now.  I would like to know how we would 'cutover' to a FIFO stock valuation method?  Would executing MRF3 for a date range be sufficient?
Also, please could you advise whether there are any discussion documents on the impact this change would have on actual costing using the material ledger, which they are currently using?
Thank You in advance for any assistance.
    Kind regards
    AMS

    Hi!
you have to do following customization for LIFO/FIFO valuation:
Go to Material Management->Valuation & account assignment ->BS valuaiton procedures ->Configure LIFO/FIFO methods:
    1.activate LIFO/FIFO
    2. Define valuation levels
    3. exclude online update
4.define relevant movement types for LIFO/FIFO
5.define LIFO/FIFO methods - in order to calculate FIFO price for current period , previous period, previous to previous period and previous year.
6.configure FIFO vlauation areas - here you have define base year as per your requirement
then you can able to do FIFO valuation - t.codes MRF4, MRF3,MRF1- u can update FIFO price in material master other than std price & MAV price fields.
there is no impact on actual material ledger. this is only used for balance sheet valuation purpose based on requirement.
Please let me know if you need any further clarificaitons
    regards,
    ramesh B

  • Material valuation based on FIFO

    Hi,
Presently we are valuating raw materials with moving average price (V).
Material is not managed in batches.
For few of our raw materials price changes too often.
So want to consume the material based on the value with which it was purchased.
Is it have anything to do with FIFO relevance?
    Regards,

    Thanks for the immediate reply,
We have found one SAP Building Block I57_BBP_EN_DE.doc regarding stock valuation, but when we go to download it, it does'nt show anything. So is this building block is related to that stock valuation & if ye please prove us the link of that or that building block on my id sphatak84gmail.com.
Because we have configure it & then shown to CTM.
    Thanks & Reagrds,
    Rajan R

  • Lifo pool?

    hi all,
i configured LIFO Pool in sap using this path
    SPRO>MM>VALUATION ACCOUNT ASSSIGNMENT>BALANCE SHEET VALUATION PROCEDURES>CONFIGURE LIFO/FIFO METHODS>LIFO>CONFIG LIFO LIFO POOL
    and assigned the same to
    SPRO>MM>VALUATION ACCOUNT ASSSIGNMENT>BALANCE SHEET VALUATION PROCEDURES>CONFIGURE LIFO/FIFO METHODS>LIFO>CONFIG LIFO VALUATION AREA
. now i can see it in the db table TPOOL but, the same is not displayed when i press f4 in material master- accounting 2 tab-lifo pool.
    need suggestions guys.
    regards
    chinta

    HI guys,
This is the error i got, when i tried to give input in LIFO Pool in material master-mm01.
The value HP0L is not allowed for the field LIFO pool
    Message no. MG142
    Diagnosis
When you transfer data by direct input or when you distribute data by application link enabling (ALE), the system performs the same checks as in online mode. However, the value HP0L is not allowed for the field LIFO pool.
    Procedure
Check what values are allowed for the field in online mode.
could any one suggest on this.
    regards

  • LIFO method

    Hello to everyone,
I need to solve a quite difficult problem, at least from my point of view :). I was given 3 tables (Entries, Consumptions, Entries_Consumptions) and I am supposed to update the Entries_Consumptions table and the Entries.LeftQuantity field according to the LIFO (Last Input - First Output) method from accounting using a trigger and eventually other functions or procedures used by the trigger. I have tried many ways and cannot find a solution for the above problem. Below is the script for the tables and also some input values.
    drop table entries;
    drop table consumptions;
    drop table entries_consumptions;
    create table entries (
    IDEntry number(4)
    constraint pk_entries primary key
    constraint nn_entries not null,
    DateEntry date,
    MaterialCode number(4),
    EntryQuantity number(4),
    Price number(5),
    LeftQuantity number(4)
    create table consumptions (

    constraint pk_consumptions primary key
    constraint nn_consumptions not null,
    DateConsumption date,
    MaterialCode number(4),

    create table Entries_Consumptions (

    IDEntry number(4),
    CorespondentQuantity number(5),
    Price number(4),

    insert into entries values ('1000','01/12/2009','002','40','30','');

    insert into entries values ('1004','27/12/2009','002','30','34','');

    insert into consumptions values ('304','28/12/2009','002','35');
I'm asking for help to find a solution for this problem. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

  • How to activate FIFO Valuation?

    Hi,
We need to follow the steps if we need to valuate our inventory by means of FIFO Scenario (I got the link from SDN)
    1. In T-code OMWE, activate the balance sheet valuation as LIFO Valuation not active & FIFO Valuation active.
    2. In T-code MRLH, FIFO Maintained at company code or plant level.
    3. In T-code OMWL, set mean receipt price at valuation ares level if Plant or at company code level if at company code level.
    4. Configure FIFO Valuation ares for teh respective year.
    5. In T-code OMWP, Configure FIFO Method.
    6. In T-code OMW4, Movemnet type settings for FIFO maintained. Generally, no chnages made.
    7. Select material for FIFO in Tcode MRF4.
    8. Execute FIFO Valuation- Tcode MRF1.
    1. When do we need to execute T Code MRF1? Do we need to run the same on period closing or daily basis & by whom- MM or FI ?
    2. What will happen in the case of Stock Transfer? Will it transfer the Material with Price of FIRST Stocks received?
    3. Can we activate the LIFO/ FIFO in Material Master (in Accounting View) for all the Materials during Material creation only?
    4. Is it mandatory to activate Batch Management to achieve FIFO Valuation?
    Regards,
    Aditi

    hi Adi,
please find my answers in bold letter
    1. When do we need to execute T Code MRF1? Do we need to run the same on period closing or daily basis & by whom- MM or FI ?
A- This TCode is used to set the LIFO/FIFO indicator in accounting-2 view in material master
    2. What will happen in the case of Stock Transfer? Will it transfer the Material with Price of FIRST Stocks received?
    3. Can we activate the LIFO/ FIFO in Material Master (in Accounting View) for all the Materials during Material creation only?
A- You can update later as well by MRF1
    4. Is it mandatory to activate Batch Management to achieve FIFO Valuation?
    A-No, I don't think so
    regards,
    Vineet

  • Account modification key for movement type 643

    Hello Experts,
I am reaching out to you today as I am in need of some info on Account assignment for Goods issue process. I looked at transaction OMWN or OMJJ for movement type based settings. I am running a business process ' Intercompany stock transfer order'. Goods issue movement on delivery reads 643(Goods issue for cross company), which is picking 'Account modification key' VAX.
My requirement was how do I force system to pick VAY for 643 without overwriting VAX with VAY in OMWN transaction. Also there are several possibilities listed out for movement 643 alone. Appreciate if you could briefly tell me how system determines other parameters such as 1) Special stock indicator 2)Consumption posting 3) Value string & 4)Counter to determine 'Account modifier' in the customizing table V_156X_KO for Intercompany movement type 643.
Additional info: Trigger is Stock tarnsfer order type NB. Subsequent process is VL10B for Delivery creation using type NLCC  and Intercompany invoice(IV) for shipping the goods to ordering company code. Then in the receiving company MIGO or goods receipt with reference to outbound delivery and fianlly MIRO or Invoice verification.

    Valuation Structure
Data on a material is valuated using the following structure:
      Valuation area
      Valuation class
      Valuation category
      Valuation type
      Material type
      Movement type
    Valuation Area
Organizational level at which material valuation is carried out. You can define a valuation area as
    follows:
      Valuation area = company code
All stocks of a particular material in this company code are valuated together.
      Valuation area = one plant
The stocks of a particular material in this individual plant are valuated together. Stocks in
other plants are not included in this valuation area.
You define in Customizing the level at which valuation should take place.
    Valuation Class
You group together different materials with similar properties into valuation classes so that you
do not have to manage a separate stock account for every material.
The following table contains examples of possible valuation classes:
    Valuation class Description
    3001 Colors
    3002 Paints
    3030 Operating supplies
    3100 Trading goods
Which valuation class a material can be assigned to depends on the material type. You can
define the following assignments in Customizing:
All materials with the same material type are assigned to just one valuation class.
Different materials with the same material type are assigned to different valuation classes.
Materials with different material types are assigned to a single valuation class.

A material is assigned to a valuation class in the material master record. The system checks
whether the material type allows the material to be assigned to the valuation class specified.
The system refers to the valuation class of a material to determine which stock account to post to
when a posting is made for this material.
    Valuation Category
Criterion according to which split valuation is carried out:
      Procurement
You can valuate a material differently depending on whether it is manufactured in-house
    or procured externally.
      Origin
You can valuate a material differently depending on where it comes from (such as home
    or abroad).
      Status
You can valuate a material differently depending on its status (such as new, used,
    repaired).
You define the valuation categories in Customizing. A material is assigned a valuation category
    in the material master record.
    Valuation Type
The valuation type specifies the individual characteristic of the valuation category, such as
internal or external, in the case of Procurement. Within the valuation category Origin, you can
define the different countries as the valuation types. You define valuation types in Customizing.
You first determine all the valid valuation types for a valuation category.
You define in the material master record which valuation types are allowed for a particular
material. For every material subject to split valuation, you must enter all the valuation types
allowed in the material master record.
    Material Type
You assign every material to a material type when you create it. Examples of material types in
the standard system include raw materials, operating supplies and finished products.
The material type controls the properties of a material and which data must be maintained for the
material. The following control features are important for valuation:
Is the material managed by quantity?
Is the material managed by value?
Which price control type may be used for the material?
Which valuation class can the material be assigned to?
The system administrator can create or change material types in Customizing.
    Movement Type
For every material movement, there is a movement type in the SAP System. The movement type
controls the properties of the movement, for example, which entries you must make when

entering a material movement, and which updates are carried out when the movement is posted.
The following control features are important for valuation:
Does the material movement cause the quantity to be updated?
Does the material movement cause the value to be updated?
Does the material movement lead to postings in Accounting?
Is the material movement relevant for LIFO/FIFO valuation?
The system administrator can create or change movement types in Customizing.
