Light comes on briefly but won't start up

I blew the circuit breaker last night with the A/C and now my PMG4 MDD won't turn on. The power switch illuminates when pressed and held, but goes dark as soon as released and the computer doesn't start. Please tell me this won't cost me more then the A/C unit I bought to help protect the computer from the 90 degree heat and humidity in Chicago. Thanks, Tim

If you have tried all the recommended resets and changed or tested the battery, then this points towards a failed power supply. There are a few threads about this on here - here is one example: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=958170&tstart=0

The battery's probably drained and the power brick on the fritz. Unfortunately, if she won't start there's little we can do for software-based diagnosis. You'll have to take it in to a Store or Service Provider for assessment.

Any idea regarding what I am doing wrong? I have Eclipse on my comp, but I have installed the standalone version of FB 4 trial.

    > Even if the trial has expired shouldn't the screen with buy now appear?
Yes, that's what I would expect too. Sometimes there are situations where previously installed Prerelease versions (beta versions from Adobe Labs) can interfere with that though, especially with multiple users on a given machine in a Lab setting.
    > I can requisition a full license from the sysadmin.
Good idea - that's probably your best shot at getting FB4 activated on that machine, without needing to re-image it. After you obtain an FB4 serial number, you should be able to enter it at install-time to activate the license.

  • After update, Apple TV just shows the Apple Logo, but won't start. up.

I updated my Apple TV 2 today with the new update, it downloaded everything and then installed it. Now it is showing the startup screen (the silver Apple logo) but won't go past that. I tried unplugging it, I tried holding the plat and menu button together to reset it, it still just pops up with the logo and never starts up. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

  • MuVo TX FM works on PC but won't start on it's

    Hi Guys,
I have a Creative MuVo TX FM that works well when it's plugged in the PC but would not start on its own (as an MP3 player). So now it's demoted as a mere flash dri've.
So far here's what I've done:
    . Upgraded the firmware (MuVoTXFM_PCFW_LF__23_03)
    2. Tried doing the recovery mode but the "New Hardware Found" dialogue box would not appear (instead the taskbar baloon "This device can perform better" appears), also installed the "Mass Storage Device" drivers (MStorage_PCDRV_LB__07_00_250)
    3. Cleaned the contact point / ports in the battery module and USB dri've
    4. Used a spare batter module to check if it's the one failing (I have another TX FM that seems to have died already)
    5. Batteries are new, been buying around 8 batteries already thinking that it's a power issue... using Panasonic's Digital AAA (LR03 (T))
    Still no avail.
I really love the functionality of the TX FM (File organization is really nice and it looks really great!!!), but after 2 mishaps (less than 2 years, both we're purchased almost the same time, and failed almost the same time) it's really starting to bother me if I would choose Creative as the next MP3 player of choice.
    Would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks,

    Hi Guys,
Still got the problem, just some minor updates.
Mananged to actually do "recovery mode" using Windows XP SP2... here's the procedure:
. Wait 'til taskbar baloon "This device can perform better" appears... if new "New Hardware Found" dialog box fails to appear.
2 Run the Firmware, it will prompt you that it recognizes a device under recover mode.
I was hoping that after sucessfully doing the recovery mode would resolve everything... but alas the Muvo Tx FM still fails to fire up on it's own. I tried probing the battery, the connectors inside (dismantling the battery module), and the battery module port / terminal (middle terminals?), I'm getting consistent .5V... that would scrap battery module problems right?
Any leads? Really desperate of getting this fixed...
    Would really appreciate any help,

  • TS1587 My friend has a G4 that will NOT turn on at all.  The monitor power button will light up, but monitor won't turn on; the the computer power button lights up when pressed but won't stay on and nothing else happens.  He said it USED to at least turn

Anyway, not sure if my question was sent, so here it goes:  My friend's G4 won't power on....the power button lights up briefly when pressed, but nothing happens....and, cannot even get the montior to power on...does the same thing.   He said it used to at least turn on, but now it's doing this.   Help!!??  What should we do??

If you are able to use a multi-meter, you can test to see if the power supply is culprit. Use the Power Mac G4: Power Supply Voltage Test  (Sawtooth G4) document to aide you in the proceedure.
If not the Sawtooth, Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet): Power Supply Voltage Test.
If a Quicksilver, use the pinout of the QS PSU connector here:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/tips/MDDps_mods/MDD_PSMods.html#update
    and a testing description here:
    http://www.jcsenterprises.com/Japamacs_Page/Blog/D275729F-09DA-4FBB-96B3-BEEEB2C 04619.html
The test description is for a MDD, but the basics are the same.
If a MDD,follow my instructions in the linked articl above.
One should also try a PMU reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1939
One should also  replace the 1/2 AA PRAM battery.
Also, check that the 20, 22, 24 pin connector is properly fitted to the motherboard, and that the wires are properly inserted in the connector. There is also a 10 wire ribbon, which goes from the motherboard to the power button board. Make sure that the ribbon is firmly connected at both ends, and that there is no apparent damage to the ribbon.
If the power supply tests good in a MDD, the power switch board could be suspect.

  • Acrobat XI Pro installed on Windows 7 but won't start

I bought a stand-alone version of Acrobat XI Pro, and installed it on my Windows 7 computer. The first time I try to launch, I get a window asking me to verify the serial number. The DDL for product name doesn't list Acrobat XI Pro and it won't accept my serial number (even though I copy/pasted it from the order page on the adobe.com site). It says that the serial number is valid but that the product isn't on the machine. And yet, when I navigate to program files> Adobe > Acrobat, viola--there it is.
When I double-click the exe file, I get the message, "validating serial number", followed by "serial number is valid, but qualifying product could not be found..."
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, to no avail. And yes, I've also tried restarting after installing as well. I am, of course, on a deadline and really need this working...
    Help!

I'm pretty sure that I bought the full version, but will check.
The window wasn't asking for what version I upgraded from, but I can try that...and I hadn't installed the old version on this machine (new computer).

  • Battery indicator lights show full battery but won't turn on

I have an early 2008 non-unibody MacBook Pro. For about a year now, the status of the battery has been "replace soon." I was still getting a pretty good amount of time off of one charge so I wasn't too worried. This past Saturday morning, I woke up, checked the battery indicator lights on my computer (it had been sleeping since the day before) and it said it had about 60% percent so I opened it. I was on the Internet for about 10 minutes before it shut off without warning. It wouldn't turn back on when I pressed the power button, so I plugged it in and it turned back on. When I checked, the battery status was "replace now." After using it, I turned it back off and left for NYC for the weekend and didn't bring it with me. When I got home last night, I plugged it in and tried turning it on with no luck. The battery indicator light was flashing one light, so I just assumed it would need to charge for a bit before it would turn back on. After about two hours, when I went to bed, it still was flashing just one light. I kept it plugged in over night, and this morning when I checked it, the battery indicator lights showed that it was fully charged, but it still wouldn't turn on. I still kept it plugged in throughout the day just in case, but it still won't turn on even though all the lights are lit. Is the battery just showing me false information, or should I be worried about more than just the battery? Might I have to get a new computer altogether? I bought a replacement battery online so I'll have my answer in a few days, but I was just wondering.

And for what it's worth, I tried reseating the RAM and resetting the SMC, both with no luck. Could it be the logic board? The only reason I think it might not be is because my computer still worked a little bit after it first shut off, it was only after it was off for an extended period of time that it wouldn't turn back on.

  • Help? Powerbook gets power but won't start

I have a 1.5 GHz. 12" Powerbook Al (with empty RAM slot) that (reportedly) had a hard drive failure (blinking folder icon at boot)and so the HD was removed and the PB left in storage for approx. 6 months. Now, I am trying to resuscitate this PB and when I plug in the AC adapter, the charge status ring glows green. When I open the lid, it momentarily turns to amber. Pressing the Power button doesn't start the Powerbook. No fan noise, LCD lighting, etc. Battery LED status shows 2 LEDs green when button is pressed. I have tried resetting the PMU repeatedly and tried starting without the battery to no avail. Any suggestions on what other troubleshooting steps I should try? If this is a hardware failure, any idea of what parts may be suspect?
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.
    /Tim Allison

Was this problem solved elsewhere? I'm surprised there was no response at all here. I'm having something pretty similar with my Al-Powerbook G4 15" FW800 (1.25gHz). Every so often, and I think only when it is stone-cold, it will start, although generally not recognize my AirPort card. Otherwise, it gives the startup tone, I can hear a bit of a grunt from the hard drive, and then a tiny bit of motion of some sort, and then nothing. There's a bit of ambient noise from inside when this is going on which I believe to be the disk spinning, but the heads aren't doing anything.
I have tried all the usual recommended steps (resetting PRAM, resetting PMU), can't get it to start at all now. There's a CD in the tray which when I hit the power button will start to spin, but then doesn't do anything. Again, it doesn't really seem to be reading the disk, and I get nothing on the screen at all at any time. It's completely black. Eventually (a couple of minutes) the drive(s) stop spinning, but it continues to draw power and gets hot.
    Any thoughts?

  • IPod Touch 4G shows in iTunes but won't start a session with PC

So.. I do get an error message saying that a session could not be started with the iPod, or as it says in Swedish "iTunes kunde inte säkerhetskopiera iPod-enheten "namn's iPod" eftersom en session inte kunde startas med iPod".
The iPod does show up in iTunes and I can view all my music, apps and stuff, but when I try to sync it I just get the error message.
Why is that?! I haven't dared to do any drastic things such as rebooting my PC or iPod since I know I'll probably loose everything on both, but I did restart everything, erase the earlier safetycopy of the iPod and such.
I have tried to google an solution but have only found similar questions with no answer.
Help me out, please! The iPod is only 2,5 months old, this can't be the end!

Try connecting your ipod to another computer and sync only 1 file or song just for isolation purpose only to see if it'll sync.
If still not syncing, then porbably you may have a bad iOS installed in iPod which is hard to see if it has a problem because you said nothing's wrong with iPod. I just saying is, it MIGHT have a bad iOS.
If you are unable to do a restore, put your ipod in DFU mode, then connect to iTunes and iTunes will detect your ipod in restore mode. Press shift key (PC keyboard) then click the restore button on iTunes. I hope you have your copy of IPSW file for restoration purposes.

  • Startup disk full error - boots normally but won't start finder

I'm having a problem in which my iMac when it boots gives me an error that the startup disk is full, but other than that it can boot normally and allow me to log in, but after that the startup stalls. I never get past the default "outer space" desktop image and finder never starts, so there's no icons, no dock, and nothing on the menu bar. What's weird is that Safari and Mail start and I can see them because I believe I have them starting automatically at boot. Safari works (I'm using it now to enter this discussion). Mail on the other hand starts but is hung checking for the servers for incoming mail.
I've tried to boot in safe mode (holding down Shift key at startup), but it doesn't work.
I've tried to boot in single user mode (holding down cmd-S at startup), but it doesn't work either.
I've tried to boot from Snow Leopard installation media (holding down C at startup), but it doesn't work as well.
Each time I try one of these alternate boot methods, it just takes me to the normal login screen with the startup disk full message. I click OK, login, and get stuck.
I'm just trying to get the finder started so that I can delete some files, but I just can't get that far. It's strange that the browser works perfectly and internet connection is fine, but nothing else works.
    Thoughts? Thanks. - Mike

Hi Lina, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Safe Mode might allow you to boot and free up some space.
If you have access to another Mac and a FireWire cable, another option would be to use FireWire Target Disk Mode to transfer data to the other Mac and delete it on your MBA.
If either way works, you want to open up somewhere around 15% free space. Once you do that, run Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc>restart>immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”)>at first screen select the language and click Continue> click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar>open Disk Utility>select your HD in the panel on the left side>click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself).
Ultimately, though, it sounds like you need a larger HD . . . .

  • Macbook Pro boots to grey screen but won't start up. How do I fix it?

Today I set my Macbook Pro on the couch but it slipped of and landed on its side (closed) on wood floor.  Nothing broke, it all seems pretty normal.  I pushed the power button to turn it on, but it only loaded to the grey screen with the apple and the spinning circle.  I left it sitting there loading for several minutes, but nothing happened.  I tried force shut down several times and restarted it.  It still did the exact same thing.  How do I fix it?
