Light gray image border

I am encountering an issue I have never had before in Photoshop.  I am trying to create a background image for a website, and Photoshop keeps putting a 1px light gray border around my image, even though I have not placed a border on the image.  It's in place of the bounding box when I Save for Web.  Since this image is to repeat across my webpage, a border on the image is unacceptable.  I have tried everything I can think of to get it to go away, but no luck.  I tried putting a stroke around it, even though I don't want a border, but that didn't work either.  The gray border was still there.  Where is this light gray border coming from and how can I get rid of it?  I have never had Photoshop add to my images before.  Any assistance is greatly appreciated!  I have attached the image so you can see to what I am referring.

Sorry about that.  The gray border is more visible on the left side than anywhere else.  It's extremely visible if the image is repeated.

  • Print quality for light gray gradients and shadows

    Hello all,
I am putting together a single page flyer which will have light gradients and shadows on the objects.
Think Apple-ish light grays and shadows...
I would like to get an opinion here from someone in the know as I am much more of digital guy than print.
    1) What is the lightest gray I can work with that would print well?
When setting up the CMYK color should I simply set it at say 10% 10% 10% 10% or is there some better mixture for light gray gradients. i.e. slightly blue for example, or rich black mixture.
    2) When creating the gradients in illustrator, should I go from the gray to transparent or is it better to set up a gray to white gradient?
    Finally,
When creating my supporting images with the shadows and gradients, would it be best just to create them in Photoshop and place them in my illustrator document and leave Illustrator for the text alone?
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate your help

Let's assume you are working in Illustrator.  Here's my advice:
    Hello all,

"I would like to get an opinion here from someone in the know as I am much more of digital guy than print.

    - It should not be necessary to use 10% across the board.  It comes down to how you want the shadows and gradients to appear.  You ask what is the "lightest" Gray.  That depends on the press and paper.  Let's also assume you are planning for high end offset on a high end glossy "White" stock ( paper ).  A 10% Black is fairly reasonable, but you could plan for 5%K ( again, depends on press and paper ).  A nice warm Gray could be achieved with 7.5%C, 7.5%M, 7.5%Y, 0%K; a nice cool Gray could be achieved via 2.5%C, 0%M, 0%Y, 7.5%K. I would cross check a Pantone Process Color Guide for a reasonable choice.  Do not rely on the monitor.
    2) When creating the gradients in illustrator, should I go from the gray to transparent or is it better to set up a gray to white gradient?
    - It should not be necessary to set your gradient to transparent.  A typical scenario would be K > 0W; only specific requirements demand transparency.
    Finally,
When creating my supporting images with the shadows and gradients, would it be best just to create them in Photoshop and place them in my illustrator document and leave Illustrator for the text alone?
    - That depends on the file, the background, and a few other considerations.  The key to shadows and gradients in Illustrator is they be applied as part of the final step in the file prep process.  If you create the shadows, for instance, in Photoshop, the end file size may end up larger than you anticipated.  And, the shadow would be resolution dependent ( less flexibility ).
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate your help"
Before you get started with your file, contact the print vendor to find out what type of press and what type of paper they plan to use on your job ( of you haven't already ).  Don't forget to set your document resolution in Illustrator ( assumed ) and the Raster Effects resolution.  Another important thing to remember is nail down the actual Gray ( i.e., lookup in Pantone Process Color Guide printed on the paper type you plan to use on press ).

  • How do I change an image border color to another color - Dreamweaver CS5?

    Good day,
I have just learned how to add a border to an image with Dreamweaver CS5 within the Properties Inspector.
After typing the width in pixels in the Border Text Field and pressing the Enter key, Dreamweaver created a black border.
How do I change the image border color to another color?

I added your suggested rule to the Style Sheet "in any order" as you explained. See the image below.
However this did not change the image border from black to light blue. In fact, nothing changed.
Nothing changed because the CSS that has been written into DW is incorrectly written.
You want the following (exactly as written below)
    img {border: 4px solid #0062C8;}
You've inadvertently wrapped the rule inside a #main_image container rendering it meaningless.
It's easiest to go into Code View and change
    #main_image {
         img {border: 4px solid #0062C8;
    to
    img { border: 4px solid #0062C8; }
The Property Inspector added a border exactly as I wanted it, other than the color I wanted the border to be. What is the use of this function in Property Inspector if it can add a border within Property Inspector but not let me change the COLOR of the black border that Property Inspector added, to another color?
That's a deceptively simple, yet valid, question with a long answer.
Back in the dark old days of web design web designers were restricted to inline HTML formatting which offered  border properties but no colors.
CSS styling offers colors and more but has to be written differently.
These days. it's best to avoid HTML formatting. Unfortunately border="4px" in the PI still allows it. But does not permit color.
Does anyone else out there ever add color borders to their IMAGES (not the containing box for the image) ?
    Yes, using CSS.

  • Pages 5.5.2/OSX 10.10.2: "Look Up" a word function in Dictionary, text is light gray/unreadable.

I've been trying to fix this for a few days now and hope someone can help. I'm not sure when this started but when I "look up" a word by highlighting it and right clicking on it, all of the text information shown (i.e definition) is light gray on a gray background. Usually the text black and you can easily read it but mine is light gray. If I highlight the words in the text I can see it but thought the OS, Pages, Safari, etc, I experience the same thing only with the dictionary. I attached 3 images. Wikipedia works but Dictionary doesn't. Software is up-to-date and I restarted my computer/apps.

You say you are using OS X 10.10.2, and Pages v5.5.2. OS X 10.10.2 is not officially released yet. The Apple Support Community, and Apple's guidelines for beta non-disclosure do not permit us to talk about beta products here.
Now, of course, if you meant OS X 10.10.1 instead, I can tell you that my Pages v5.5.2 does not have the problem you have posted, and in fact, the yellow highlight boxes on my OS X release — feature rounded corners, and no drop shadow — which is contrary to what you have shown.
This leads me to question whether Pages v5.5.2 is not compatible with an OS X 10.10.2 beta release, or you have installed customization software on your Mac that is interfering with standard OS X, and Pages v5.5.2 visual design cues.

  • Rich black gray images

I want to create a rich black, CMYK gray image. The colors must blend CMYK to make a nice gray image. It would be nice to apply GCR to remove some of the CMY and reduce the TAC. So far, I am able to make this happen. However, as a result of the GCR, the highlight areas in the photo are made up of mostly CMY. I would like to have the highlight areas made up of mostly black only. So, I want to use GCR in the mid-tone and shadow areas, but I'd like to use mostly black only in the highlight areas. Any thoughts as to how I can make this happen?

You are misunderstanding GCR. CMY in the highlights is not the result of GCR, it is the ABSENCE of GCR in those tones.
GCR is the substitution of blacK for CMY when there are combinations of the color inks in ratios that would simulate neutral gray (generally, equal amounts of C & M, and about 20% of those percentages as Y). The theory being that blacK alone can substitute for the gray that CMY can give. In practice it doesn't quite work out that way, but using black where neutral gray appears in the CMY mix up to about 50 % replacement is a good compromise.
If you are converting from RGB to CMYK, in Color Settings, set the working CMYK space to Custom CMYK, then use GCR and varying amounts of black generation to force more black replacement up into the light values of the image.
If your image is CMYK already, you'll have to do a "manual GCR by using Curves. Or, you could convert back to RGB, then control the conversion as above back to CMYK.
In either case, it's a crap shoot and you'll have to experiment and fine tune with Curves.

  • Gray shading border disapears when printing...

I have compiled with hp4laserjet(pcl5) driver. It works perfect.
But if I try to print on another printer (HP 4200n), my light gray shading borders disappears. How come? I have tried to compile with all HP-PCL5 and HP-PCL6 drivers (even Postscript) that there is but with no result. The lines are printed and everything else, Its just the shading that disappears.
The borders are made in Output Design 5.5 with Format Graphics - shading.
    Any suggestions?
    / Mikael Österholm

I think this is "normal". I don't think JTable draws a line on the left side, because usually there is a border where you wouldn't see the line anyway.

  • I set in prefferances plug-ins. Show all filter gallery groups and names, but they are still light gray and not selectable

I set in preferences plug-ins. Show all filter gallery groups and names, but they are still light gray and not selectable

They are being shown.  When Photoshop gray out items it means in the documents current state  that item is not supported,  Get the document into a state that the grayed out filters can be used.  Some filters mat not support some modes like CMYK. 32bit color, Lab etc. They seem to be listed but nor currently applicable. Note whem no document is open all are grayed out the when a simple clipboard image is open all are available.

  • Can you change the photoshop menu color (light gray) to match the default Premiere Pro menu color?

I'm a new Adobe user, and maybe it's my OCD-edness coming out, but I can't stand how Photoshop's menu doesn't match the menu of most of the other apps in the Adobe production suite.  Encore, After Effects, Premiere Pro all have a dark gray menu by default, yet Photoshop CS 5's is light gray.  It should all match, darn it!!! LOL
Is there a way to change Photoshop's light gray menu to match the other app's darker menus?

No, there is no way to change Photoshop's UI color.
Video/film apps have a darker UI because the user should be adapated to video/film viewing environments to judge color and contrast of their images. Using a brigher UI would cause them to mis-correct their images.
Photo editing apps aim for an average of print, gallery, and video environments -- thus going closer to 50% gray. Using too dark or light a UI would cause problems in a general purpose photo editing program.

  • Acrobat 3D Toolkit - texture & color issue - just light gray color

    hi there,
when I open a 3D model in acrobat 3D toolkit, the different textures have all the same color R:192 G:192 B:192. Sort of light gray within the whole model ...
If I open an other model and drag it into the one already opened, then the texture and colors appear normally ...
    Anyone else had this problem??
    Thanks

One think I want to talk about, the battery life.
It's write somewhere that the 6 Cell last like 12 hours or so. Well, if you use your computer like if it was connected in the electric outlet, you will get around 3h30 of battery life. That's with the screen at 100% and no option enable to save on battery. So I would say it's pretty good.
I like real life number. When I buy a laptop I expect performance for a real life usage, I never plan to use my screen at 10% of brightness with night vision googles in my face No, I prefer to work with a bright screen.
I will continue to post data to let people know what they can expect from this laptop in a real life usage. I thought most people was buying Thinkpad for business needs. Personnally I don't know any business man that run benchmark on their computer.
For those who have a pending order, let me know if you have any questions.

  • All emails in Mail print with a light gray background.

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion all the emails I print from Mail shows with a light gray background.
    How can I change that?
    The printouts just look dirty.
    Thank you!

    Hi Eric,
    Thanks for writing!
I'm on 10.8.5 which is the latest update.
I have an HP Laserjet which is about 8 years old. I tried printing out this page and it showed gray. Also went to webmail and the same thing happened. But it didn't happen in InDesign.
Do you have any idea what's causing this?
    Thank you!

I need to set an image border. I select the image. But I don't see any relevant inline style option in CSS Designer.
It only lets me change <inline style> : td but there's no option for the image.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,

    However, it doesn't change anything.

  • Gray image? cover? over images in slideshow

Trying to make a slide show from the Iphoto library. However, after selecting images and hitting "Play" there is a gray image with an exclamation point in the middle of it that blocks the photo. The slideshow won't play. What is this gray "box" and how to I get rid of it. Only about 20 images in the library seem infected with this gray box.

    Docinatl:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you able to see those problem images in the Edit mode? Here are a couple of things to try:
1 - locate one of the jpg files in the Originals folder, select it and bring up it's Info window (Command+I). Select Preview as the default application and click on the Apply to all... button (even if Preview is already showing).
2 - Download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
