Light Room 5 camera profile

I'm trying to decide whether to use color checker which uses dng file set as camera profile or use data color checker which sets up as a preset. Can any one tell me which is better or the major deference between the two

Hi there,
In case if you have downloaded trial of lightroom 5 and then subscribed to Adobe photoshop Photography Offer or Adobe Full Creative Cloud, you will be asked for serial number.
Here, you need to uninstall the trial and login to creative.adobe.com to download the Adobe Lightroom fdfd,,  and you will not be asked for serial number.
Still, if you asked for serial number after the uninstallation of trial and download from creative.adobe.com, try
Close all the cloud applications, launch / open lightroom.
After you launch the product please click on " License the software" and then enter your adobe ID and password and it will work fine
Other possible reason: If you have just downloaded the trial and not purchased the product, after the 30 days trial ends you will be asked for serial number, you will have to purchase the product in this case.
Lastly, if all the above steps do not work, please contact adobe customer service and they will help you better.

  • Light room lens profiles

Does anyone know how to make this work reliably?  All my lenses provide exit data, yet if I have the lens profile set to auto it often will not assign the right lens. Worse if I choose a devoloo preset that specifies a lens, then set it to auto and then eg change the vignette or distortion value it will drop back to the previous lens.  The only sure fire way I've found to get it to work - or to make sure the right profile is there is to switch to another manufacturer and then back to the.correct manufacturer.  If it picks a lens I don't have as the profile then I've bussed wrong and have to pick another manufacturer. This is obviously Bonkers.
PS the new forums are virtually unusable on mobile. For design software manufacturers this is not great

Do your lenses have Adobe-supplied profiles that are listed on Adobe’s lens-profile page or are they ones you’ve created or downloaded because Adobe doesn’t supply these lens profiles?

  • Where do you put DNG camera profile for light room?

I just received my Leica M9 and downloaded from chromasoft a camera profile for the M9. it is a .dcp file but I can not find where to use it.
    Adolfo

Dependent on OS. On Windows vista the usual location is Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CamerRaw\CameraProfiles .
Or you can place it directly in the folder where the Adobe profiles are located, usually Users\All Users\Adobe\CamerRaw\CameraProfiles\Camera|Leica M9
    on OSx /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/CameraProfiles
The actual profile is used via the calibration setting in the develop module.

There may be only one profile depending on which camera you have.  Multiple profiles are only available on some camera.

  • How to open a Camera Raw Alias open in Photoshop or Light room or Bridge?

    Please Help.
I have about 20 images that I was trying to Burn in a DVD but , I ended up getting CR2 Alias  files with an arrow at the bottom left corner.
I want to open the images either in Photoshop CS6 or in Light Room 4 or in Bridge. PLEASE HELP me open the images in jpg. or in RAW.
    Thanks .

Thank you for your prompt feed back. Here are the details:
CAMERA USED Canon 5D mark II
    MAC BOOK PRO 10.6.8
Shot tethered in Light room 4  in RAW
I was shooting tethered in LR in RAW  , and after the shoot, I was trying
to burn the RAW files on a DVD R. After a while
the DVD was rejected by the  built in Optical Drive of my laptop and I am
left with a folder ( containing all the images) on my desktop and each
image icon looks like a folded envelope with a small arrow going up from
the left hand corner  . I erased my CF  card before that, thinking I had
all the images in my Light room. BUT that was the beginning of the DISASTER
!! My external Lacie drive, which I was using for storage of my tethered
photos in LR, also froze.NOW , I am left with only the Alias CR2 icons. I
dragged them in Photo shop CS 6 , but won't open.
PLEASE help me open them in any format.
Thank you very much for your time.
    Regards.

  • Why does lightroom 5 do not read or can't find my raw files when I'm trying to import my images from my camera to light room

It just started happening out of the ordinary. I had a photo shoot done today. I came home plugged my camera usb to my mac lap top and tried to import my raw files as i usually do into light room 5 to edit my images. This time the same error message popped up stating it couldn't read or my files weren't found over and over again. Neither the new ones nor the old pictures was able to import them. Please Help!

I just bought Lightroom and have the same problem - MacBook Pro with OS X 10.10.1. LR actually displays the photos properly when previewing but fails when starting the import. Also, a couple of times it would start but would hang up. I think it may be a Yosemite problem. I was having trouble importing with Aperture too. The fail message from LR was:
The following files were not imported because they could not be read. (6)
        IMGP7941.JPG
        IMGP7942.JPG
        IMGP7944.JPG
        IMGP7943.JPG
        IMGP7945.JPG
        IMGP7946.JPG
I can copy the folder from the camera to my desktop and then import. That works but of course I shouldn't have to do that.

  • I cannot import photos from my camera card into light room 5v or photoshop

i cannot import photos from my camera card into light room 5 or photoshop

Launch Lightroom and from the menu go to:
Lightroom >> Preferences >> general (tab)
Ensure there is a checkmark in the box “show import dialog when a memory card is detected”
Then quit Lightroom and insert the card again. Does LR launch ready for import?
If not, check that your card is mounted. You should see an icon on the desktop.
Launch Lightroom and click the import button (bottom left)
Expand the tree in the left-hand column of the import dialog e.g. from Mac HD >> Users….down to desktop.
    Highlight your card.
Choose “Copy” at the top and either a named folder on the right or automatic dated folders.
    Then start the import.

  • I cannot import photos from my camera card into light room 5 or photoshop

I cannot import photos from my camera card into light room 5 or photoshop

There is no "into". LR and PS just reference your photos on the hard drive.
When you import your photos "into" the LR catalog, LR can copy the images off your memory cards to the hard drive if you have not already copied them, but the photos are referenced by the LR catalog by the path and filename for the files.
If you are having problems getting the images off the cards, what steps are you using and what error messages are you getting?

  • Where i can dowload camera Raw 8.8 because update don't rub on Light room 5 or CC2014

    HI
where i can dowload camera Raw 8.8 because update don't rub on Light room 5 or CC2014??
    Thanks
    Samsam

You can get the camera raw 8.8 updater from here for photoshop cc 2014
    Camera Raw plug-in installer
There is as of yet no update for lightroom 5
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2015/03/camera-raw-8-8-now-available.html
You would need to convert the files to dngs first before lightroom would read them.

  • Camera profile information needed

Where do I find write-ups on camera profiles. The site search turns up nothing.  Specifically, how do I determine whether I have the latest Cannon and Nikon camera profiles?  We use mostly 5DM2, D3/D700 DSLRs.
I am specifically concerned whether the Nikon D3/D700 profiles are up to date because they appear (to my eye) to have some weirdness happening.  There appears to be an unnecessary tradeoff between accurate color and contrast, especially in orange vs highlights.  I happen to have a very keen eye for certain animal hair color and can tell when its not perfect.  The color appears to be most accurate when the whites are totally blown out!?  Attempts to make my own have as well fixed the contrast, but with very unacceptable color.
I've seen some 3rd party articles, but they tend to ramble, and I have no idea of their veracity.   Are there any "white papers" on this?  And are there any links with which to verify stock profile dates?  Is there a list of current profiles?  Any help would be appreciated becuse I feel like I'm continually googling dead ends.

I've never had a problem with hardcopy. It only seems to be a display problem.
I think you have already identified the problem and it is your monitor. Screen images are capable of displaying a wider dynamic range than hardcopy "print images." The usual scenario is that you get everything adjusted to look great onscreen, but the darn prints don't look as good! You have the opposite situation, again clearly indicating something is defective with your monitor and/or the calibration is off (bad hardware calibration device, software, or other compatibility issue).
Go to this site and check the ‘White Saturation’ and Black Level tests, and report your viewing results with the current monitor setup:
    http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
Black level: Calibrated: 1-7 are barely if at all noticable. The differences are not linear to my eye --the difference increases as they get lighter. Uncalibrated: All are visible, The darker squares have a very faint red tint. The differences are more linear.
The Black Level test needs to be performed with your browser in full-screen mode (F11 with IE) and very low room light. Even if the room lighting is a little high you should still be able to see all of the squares (6-10). It appears your black level settings OR room lighting is off.
Thanks for the reply and the link. I am set to collect raw & jpg samples and will get some the next time out, next day or so.
I'll be interested in your RAW + JPEG test results. Since you say 50% of the viewing audience will be "online," I highly suggest that you try viewing the processed images on a number of different computers that have NO monitor calibration. It will probably be necessary to "adjust" the images slightly for best image quality on "typical" bright uncalibrated displays. Considering your target audience, this will be more challenging than making good prints!

  • How to make an untwisted camera profile available in LR 4.4?

I have downloaded dcpTool from http://dcptool.sourceforge.net and generated the untwisted versions of all the Nikon D700 related camera profiles (Adobe Standard, Camera Standard, etc.) that come with LR 4.4. Since the structure of the camera profile filenames seem to be important, for each file I kept the original name but added a distinction to its end (e.g. Nikon D700 Camera Standard UT.dcp).
According to the information I have collected, 'installation' of these profile versions would be as easy as copying them into the same directories where the original profiles are. Unfortunately LR 4.4 does not bring them up in the Camera Calibration module.
How should I 'install' these profiles?

Thanks again for your very useful advice. You gently explain why my idea is groundless. You are right, it is better to stay on ground.
I changed to LR recently. So far I have used only the Adobe Standard profile, but I am not very pleased with it. A few days ago I started fiddling with other D700 profiles, without any convincing color rendering improvement. This is the reason for entering the camera profiling world.
As my username reflects, I am a hobbyshooter. Most of my pictures are taken when travelling (landscapes and cityscapes) but I also shoot at family events and parties.
You have made me even more curious about the ColorChacker based profiles. I hope they will solve my main problems: skin color, the vivid reds of Nikon, and the formerly mentioned hue twist. Nevertheless, I am afraid that finding the right color rendering balance for my typical environments (particularly for indors with totally mixed lighting) will not be easy...
I am also thinking of reprocessing roughly two thousand pictures, taken years ago with D200 and D300. Do you have any suggestion how to get nice 'generic' profiles for the given camera+lens combos, which I do not have these days, so creating their profiles with ColorChecker is out of the question for me?

  • DNG camera profile - which to trust, Adobe's or X-Rite's?

I found that dual-illuminant DNG camera profiles created with X-Rite's ColorChecker application and Adobe's DNG Profile Editor give different visual results (the profiles were produced using the same set of 6500K/2850K illuminated photos). I'm now in trouble which profile(s) to trust, I assume Adobe's is correct...

Me too. The purpose of the twisting is for more pleasing color. Cool dark greens, but warmer light greens; dark midnight blues, but warmer cyany light blues, deep dark reds, but warmer light reds...
Note: this exagerates what often happens in real life: shadows are cool, sunlit colors are warmer...
The linear profiles may be more accurate, but the twisted profiles may look better.
Obviously this is subjective, and may depend on the shot and the purpose for it...
My favorite profile is a customized version of Adobe Standard created with DNG Profile Editor - a little dimmer in the upper-midtones/lower-highlights, a little less cyany blues, a little cooler greens, and slightly warmer (less magenta-y) reds.

  • How does Adobe make their camera  profiles for ACR and Lightroom?

I'm not interested in the proprietary algorithms , but I am curious as to the photographic mechanics and hardware tools used by  Adobe to make the various camera profiles as they differ markedly from the ones I make using the DNG Profile Editor.
My methodology is to set an X-Rite 24 patch Color Checker target, light it evenly with electromic flash (with 0.1 stops from center to corners as mesured with a Sekonic L-758r Meter) and make a series of exposures bracketed in third of a stop increments around the meter reading in case the camera sensitivity differs from the meter's.
I then process the raw files and convert them to the DNG format, select the best exposure and run it through the DNG Profile editor. My results differ from Adobe's generic profiles for that camera enough that that I don't thin kthe difference can be credited to the difference between a generic profile a specific camera.
How do the different tools work in the DNG converter? Starting with the Options for "Base Tone Curve"? Is there a document a moderately color geeky person can understand that explains this?
I thin kthe DNG Profile editor is a great and under usedtool. I wish more people knew about it.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Someone who only eats sausage may not want to know how it's made.  Someone who creates things with food, a chef, a cook, or otherwise is thinking about a career in the food industry, might have a interest in such things.  Someone who is thinking of making sausage will want to know all the details.  Someone who is concerned with the public safety might want to know how sasauge is made.
It would be nice for a sausage maker to give some hints about the process as compared to what each of us can do with the DNG Profile Editor and to the original poster's question, why are our profiles different from Adobe's?
It is my experience that when I create a profile with the DNG Profile Editor, and then compute the color error for each of the 24 color patches of a CC24, using a program like Imatest, some colors are quite a bit off and some are very close, and the colors that are off, are not the same ones that are off when I compute the color error using one of the Adobe Standard or Camera Standard profiles.
Is Adobe using more detailed and sophisticated color targets with hundreds of different colors, or if not, do the tools provide more feedback and allow more manual manipulation of the profile and so the differences are due to their judgement about which colors to make "right" and which ones to let have more error associated with them, that can be manipulated by hand instead of merely letting the DNG Profile Editor apparently distribute the error amongst the various colors with some sort of even-handed calculation.
For example it is easy to imagine that someone tweaking a profile by hand with a live readout of the error of each of the colors plus an overall composite error, might put more emphasis on skin tones being right if they have a background in people photography, or more emphasis on bright colors being right if their experience is in textiles and the current trend in the US is bright colors--and a different emphasis when the trend is muted colors so there is cultrual bias and life-experience coloring a "standard" profile.
In other words, how much of the difference between Adobe and our profiles are due to Adobe having different or better science, and how much of it is due to Adobe have different or better "artists" who decide what colors to make correct compared to others.

  • D810 RAW conversion in LR 5.6 shows posterization at certain camera profiles: Camera Standard, vivid, monochrome that it does not show with identical photos from a D800. Is this bug already known?

Never had this problem seen before in all my years of LR use. I use a test-chart with a continuous gray bar (from dark to light). Normally use Camera Standard profile to develop all my D800 RAW files with no problem so far. Got a D810 to test this week and did some tests using the same target. Suddenly there are some ugly posterization effects in the gray bar to be seen that can only be eliminated with heavy color-noise reduction or by switching to any other profile but Camera standard, Camera Vivid, Camera monochome.
The following 100% crop shows the effect from a D810:
And this is the same crop from a D800-shot:

OK, after posting there was the right suggestion of other forum threads that took care of the issue:
