Light room "offline files"

Some of my pictures in Lightroom read "offline or missing" I am able to view the picture but unable to develope it in anyway. Not sure why this is happening??? All the pictures were fine a week ago.

that means LR can not find the images on your harddisk. you just see the previews rendered by LR.
have you moved or renamed you image folders or files?
or are these files on a USB harddrive you may have disconnected?
check if these images are in the place (in the correct folder on your harddisk) LR thinks they are.

Thank you for your prompt reply. Unfortunately I am not that tech oriented and
cannot easily find that folder. I did notice when I was booting up the LR software
that I could accept the site where LR usually is set up or choose a place. I am
thinking that the standard location for LR software is corrupted and that if I
chose a different place it would work. I say this because whether I use my
original disc or download from adobe I get the same warning. I have 100GB of
memory on the hard drive and I have cleaned the computer with Mcaffee and free
software. What should I do next? I can't use this software and I doubt LR 5
would open up with my current problem.

If the error message is “files cannot be read” then this is usually a problem with the destination at the right of the destination import panel.
If the issue is something different than not being able to import then please give a more detailed description.

Why does lightroom 5 do not read or can't find my raw files when I'm trying to import my images from my camera to light room

It just started happening out of the ordinary. I had a photo shoot done today. I came home plugged my camera usb to my mac lap top and tried to import my raw files as i usually do into light room 5 to edit my images. This time the same error message popped up stating it couldn't read or my files weren't found over and over again. Neither the new ones nor the old pictures was able to import them. Please Help!

I just bought Lightroom and have the same problem - MacBook Pro with OS X 10.10.1. LR actually displays the photos properly when previewing but fails when starting the import. Also, a couple of times it would start but would hang up. I think it may be a Yosemite problem. I was having trouble importing with Aperture too. The fail message from LR was:

I can copy the folder from the camera to my desktop and then import. That works but of course I shouldn't have to do that.

Make sure that Develop Settings being applied during import is set to "None".

How to open Nikon d600`s raw file in Light room 5.3 ?

I resently downloaded Light Room 5.3 for try after joining Webinar.I want to open Raw file of my DSLR D600 of Nikon .But Light Room do not identified Raw file,tells me Light Room is not identifying the files,please update software from help,I try to update then dilog comes your software is up to date.Then I downloaded Adobe Raw DNG Converter 7.3 and try to convert Raw file but not identified.
I do not know what to do , please help me to solve the problem.

Lightroom 5.3 should be able to open D600 RAW photos.
The problem is most likely that you used some version of Nikon software to transfer the photos to your computer. This interferes with Lightroom's ability to read the files. If the files are still on your camera card, use Lightroom to directly access them from the camera card. If they are not on your camera card, you can still fix the files, see http://forums.adobe.com/message/6181267#6181267

Is it normal for Light room to delete files on import

I normally copy my CF images to my hard drives before I import to Lightroom with the option of not moving. I tried to directly import from the CF card and after the import, no files were on my CF card and around 40 images had not been copied (error message of images not imported.) I was able to use image recovery software to save the recovered image to my hard drives. Am I missing a setting to let LR 3 not erase the images after importing?

Thank you for your opinion. I purchased the Hoodman card because of their good track record for a wedding I have to shoot in two weeks. I packaged the thread and sent it to them to see what they think the problem might be. I an a little confused because the eImage Recovery Software got all the images off the card.

This sounds like a bad card. Lightroom was just responding to flaky results from the file IO requests it was making. Since it never tries to make a "write" operation on the card, the actual mounting and read action caused the card to fail.
I would not trust this card any longer, though formatting it in the camera will allow it to map out the bad spots. But the card will fail miserably again in the future, this you can count on.

Error in creating an HDR image in photoshop using light room. Help please.

Hi so I am trying to create an HDR image using the latest version of photoshop and light room.
Just finished doing all the steps needed before I select my images and click (edit in > merge to HDR pro in photoshop ) it opens Photoshop and gives me an error saying "Merge To HDR.jsx could not be found." and my files don't open. what does this mean and how do I fix it?

difficult to reproduce. But it might be a data conversion problem.
e.g. try
to_char(a.num_tabs)If that's not the error comment out certain lines or xmltags and test which one is the reason for the error.

How do i get my catalogs back on light room?

After burning a disk of photos, I lost all my catalogs. The photos are still on my hardrive but all my light room catalogs show 0 (except the photos i just burned on the disk). My question is how do i get those photos back into Lr?

It is possible you either accidentally moved your catalog file or accidentally opened a new catalog. Look under File->Open Recent and try all the catalogs listed there to see if that is your main catalog.
If that doesn't work, you might want to open a recent backup of your catalog file.

Purchased Light Room 5, installed, registered .. but keep getting this screen "An error occurred when attempting to change modules. ... OK" ?? WTF? ?

Just because you are the only user on the computer doesn't mean you are the administrator.
Also, the fact that you are being asked to re-enter your serial number each time you start means that it is not being remembered because something is either preventing it from being written to you disk or (less likely) something is erasing it. This does suggest that you lack certain permissions to make changes to your computer. Not only to save your serial number, but to have access to the Lightroom files needed to change modules (they are just plug-ins within Lightroom).
Try creating a new user account and run Lightroom from there (making sure that it is part of the Administrator group).

Shot tethered in Light room 4 in RAW
I was shooting tethered in LR in RAW , and after the shoot, I was trying
to burn the RAW files on a DVD R. After a while
the DVD was rejected by the built in Optical Drive of my laptop and I am
left with a folder ( containing all the images) on my desktop and each
image icon looks like a folded envelope with a small arrow going up from
the left hand corner . I erased my CF card before that, thinking I had
all the images in my Light room. BUT that was the beginning of the DISASTER
!! My external Lacie drive, which I was using for storage of my tethered
photos in LR, also froze.NOW , I am left with only the Alias CR2 icons. I
dragged them in Photo shop CS 6 , but won't open.
PLEASE help me open them in any format.

Is there a way to drag, copy, export parent folder shown in light room with multiple child folders to smug mug?

I have a parent folder called FHS Dance Competition, that contains several folders (one per team). I have this structure in my computer hard drive which I uploaded with one click to light room. In the past I've had to manually create each folder, copy the name, drag in the photos, etc. Very time consuming. Is there a way to drag or copy, or export the parent folder shown in light room to the lower portion of the screen where the smug mug piece is?

I too need to make "Real Copies" of images and hate doing anything directly from the OS because of the chance that my LR catalog gets out of Sync with the actual images on the computer. So I make the copies inside LR with an export routine and then move the copies inside of LR with the normal drag and drop. Once the export preset is created it can be executed from the Library Grid by right-clicking on the image (or selected images) to make the copies. How do I get light room and ps 10 on my new computer? Old computer crashed

I have a new windows 8 computer. I had light room and pS 10 on my old computer. How can I get them on this new computer without repurchasing? I have the code of my lightroom sitting here but I assuming you can only use it on one computer and I used it on the old computer.

Apparently you have two catalogs now, one from each installation. If you did importing, tagging and editing during the first installation, that will all be in the first catalog. Find the first catalog - it is a file with the suffix .lrcat and the default place for LR to put it is usually your Pictures folder - and (with LR closed) double-click on it. LR will launch with catalog #1 active.

Random-non-apple-question ADOBE LIGHT ROOM?

...a random question for anyone that uses adobe light room... when i go to import cannon raw files it imports as colour and then after they 'render preview' they turn black and white...
i's so fustrating!
no presets are on and i reset the settings...
no other format of picture does this.
it dosent matter how i import the files, it still turns black and white.
if anyone could help that would be awsome
