Lightbox in Interactive PDF.

I have just recently learned about interactive PDFs and their features. I am working on creating one and have a question.
What about lightboxes ? How can I create one in an interactive PDF ?
My goal:
Create an interactive PDF with images or text as buttons. These buttons will be clicked by the viewer and a lightbox will open in the center of the screen to display images and/or documents.
My reason:
I wish to provide viewers a self-contained solution that will not depend on access to the Internet or other technologies (Flash). I know this may be possible with Flash but I don't want to block those who may be accessing my information using an iPad or other technology that doesn't support it.
Can this be done ?
Thank you in advance,
Joe.

Hi, George.
Thank you for your help and reply.
It seems that the Lightbox effect may be complicated to achieve with Acrobat in a relatively simple way. Is it possible to accomplish a similar effect using InDesign CS5 and Acrobat Pro 9 ? I would like to click on certain elements of my PDF document (images or text) and have a window of a pre-specified size (approximately 800 wide x 600 high) open in the center of the screen.
Can I do this in InDesign ?
One other things I noticed is the ability to embed html code in Acrobat. Can this be used to accomplish this effect ? Can a window be opened in the center of the screen triggered by a button in a PDF file so that this window functions as a browser and displays another document downloaded from web address (file located on a server) ?
Thank you again,
Joe.

  • Animated Text In Interactive PDF, also question about SWF distribution

Hello Forum.......first post, so hi to everyone
I have created a indesign cs5 document that has some animated text flying in from the left upon mouse clicking, if i export it to a SWF it works fine but if i export it to an interactive PDF the text is already in place. Is it possible to have animated text in an interactive pdf?
Another question I have is regarding swf files, i need to create some presentations for our sales guys to run on their lap tops while out at clients, when i export it you get the resources file and the swf file....rather than just dropping these into a folder on their laptop is there a slicker way to package it in some kind of projector file.
It would also be nice if in the future I could put the presentation onto a CD and have it auto launch the presentation.
If anyone could give me some basic pointers it would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • A problem with hyperlinks in my Interactive PDF on smartphones...

I hope someone can help...  I exported both an interactive and for print PDF from inDesign.  When I view the PDFs on my pc the hyperlinks that I've made in the document work perfectly fine.  When I view the PDFs on my smartphone, the hyperlinks don't work.  I've gone through many forums to make sure all my settings were correct and have tried many different things to try to get them to work, but still no luck.  Has anyone come across this issue?  Is there any way to get these hyperlinks to work on a smartphone?

Interactive PDFs on mobile devices are nothing short of a crapshoot.
The readers are hit or miss and the better ones require payment.
I wish I had better news for you but right now, that’s the way it is.

I publish a 41mb InDesign newsletter monthly into interactive pdf. It always becomes a file size of 4mb, 10% of original, when I save to pdf. This month my newsletter is 41mb and it drops to 11mb, 25% of original. I have re-sized all pictures, deleted pages separately, have gotten the file size down to 16mb and it drops to 7mb, 45% of original.
I have gone back and saved Feb and March and it saves to 10% of original, as it did before, and I use the same mechanism to save now.
I have gone to Acrobat Pro and optimized down to 8.8mb, but the quality is not acceptable.
What other variable is there that I haven't discovered?

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • Problem with Hyperlinks - Creating Interactive PDF from an In-design Book

Im working on producing a Interactive PDF from an In-design Book which consists of 9 Indesign Documents.
The problem I am having is with Navigation when I export the pdf
When I export out to 'Interactive' pdf the hyperlinks DONT link to other documents
When I export out to 'print' pdf the hyperlinks DO link to other documents but the buttons to 'Go to next page' no longer work
    Cheers,
    Jamie

Thanks for the reply. I got the IT to upgrade to 5.5 and it now works. Rather an annoying bug for CS5 though
    Cheers,

  • Why are full page video's resized in my interactive pdf document?

    Hi all,
I've got an interactive pdf with a video that doesn't appear in the proper size, its 65% of the original.
This video is created with After Effects, using a composition of 1024 * 768 px.
The Indesign document from which the pdf is created has the same dimensions.
So the video is supposed to cover the entire pdf page, for full screen view.
Yet it only appears as 65%, with an black rim around it...
    What do I do wrong?
    Best, Erik

    Hi Dave,
Correct, the video object fills the entire page in InDesign, and it hasn't been scaled as it has the same size.
The page looks fine in the SWF preview panel, I think something goes wrong in PDF.
Please have a look at the screenshots below. The Page Thumbnails Bar shows three pages of identical size, the one in the middle is the video.
The left screen is zoomed 75,4% the right 100%. This makes the black rim bigger and the movie smaller.
Watching the PDF in full screen gives a similar black bar.

  • How can I make the SWF page in my interactive PDF keep the page change on-click

    Hi there,
I'm creating an interactive PDF presentation for a client, and I've spent some time learning how to animate the text for certain slides, export to SWF and place that SWF back in the InDesign file. I then export to an interactive PDF to display in full screen mode. The problem I'm having is that I can cycle forward through the PDF slides by clicking until I reach the SWF page, but then the hand cursor changes to an arrow and I can't move the presentation forward in full screen mode.
I'm sure there's an easy fix, I just can't work it out. I'd be really grateful for any help.
    Many thanks
    Andrew

Bob: it will be a PDF presentation fed from a laptop to a large display screen with about 50 slides (1920px x 1080px) to support a speaker (person). Most of the slides are static text or image slides, but where we want images to fade in/out we've created an SWF and dropped it into that page in InDesign.
Trevor: Many thanks, just checked that and those settings are correct.
Jeffrey: I just tried your advice but the problem remains.
The strange thing is that if I press enter each time the slides (pages) move forward properly, but any touch on the mouse and the whole thing won't move... I'm going to look to see if I can drop in other video formats instead.

  • Must click on a Flash icon in my interactive PDF before I can read it

    Hi,
I have been creating an InDesign document with object effects and buttons, that I then exported to SWF.
I then placed the SWF file in a new InDesign document, that I exported to an interactive PDF, to get a fancy looking PDF that my client can place on their website.
My problem is that everytime I open the PDF, I see a white screen with a small Flash icon on the top left of the page, and I need to first click on this icon to activate the Flash elements. Only then can I read the document, and see the differents effects and functions that the document offers.
Not user friendly or professionnal looking.
Does anybody know a fix for that problem?
    Thanks a lot

Did you check "Play on Page Load" in Media panel?

  • Animated GIF in interactive PDF

    Hi all,
    I was wondering if someone could help me with the following;
I want to add some animated GIF images to my interactive PDF document in InDesign (also with hyperlinks and video's)
How do I need to save the document, in order to see an animation (instead of just the first layer, without any animation..)
    Thank you in advance!

Acrobat and Reader 9 and 10 support flash.
You can create your animation with InDesign CS5 animation panel, after you are ready, simply select your animated object, export selection as SWF (Flash Player) and finally use File>Place command to replace your original animated object with that exported SWF. Now you can export your interactive PDF with animation.

  • Interactive PDF with mouse-overs was created in Illustrator, now pauses and flashes when opened in Acrobat

I have created an interactive PDF using Illustrator that has mouse-overs. When i export the file and then open it in Acrobat there is odd pausing on teh image bewteen mousing over it and the text callout that shold then display. Did I export or save incorrectly?

Thank you for both responses! I'm impressed with the fact that you're reading my post.
I'm new to tech matters with Adobe/PDF/Nitro tho I've been using them for several years.
The original file was created by an agency and given to independent contractor to use.  I don't know which program they used to create the form. And I don't know what XFA or LiveCycle Designer means  because I'm not technically sophisticated unfortunately.
I used Nitro 6 to populate the data and have a number of forms already filled out, which I periodically open and modify and resubmit. But Nitro 6 is acting sick, despite reinstalling several times.  I'm attempting to see if it's worth transitioning to Adobe Acrobat, i.e., can I reopen the forms I've populated and continue to work with them.  I like some of the Adobe features for other purposes (e.g., OCR).
Any help in determining how to open the form while keeping the data?

  • Interactive PDF forms

    Hi,
In Our project we are creating an Interactive PDF form. This form shows some data that we get from the bapi. While creating the form there is no issue.
We are also saving the generated PDF's at some location in the server. Through a different application we are accessing these old stored pdf's. Now when we save the PDF to our local machine and try to open it we get a message saying:
    >"This document contained certain rights to enable special features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights are no longer valid. Please contact the author for the original version of this document".
With this message all the javascript written on the PDF form get disabled and due to this few of the data are not getting displayed.
What can be the reason for this? Does it has something to do with ADS configuration on the server?
    Please reply.
    Thanks & regards,
    Sujit

    Hi, Sujit!
To me it seems that the document somehow gets modified while you process. Try to save your file on the local machine under a new name, enable and save again.
    Regards,
    Thomas

  • Interactive PDF on IPad app created with Digital Publishing Suite

Can someone tell me why I can create an Interactive PDF in InDesign, send it to Adobe Forms but not be able to have an Interactive PDF form on an IPad App built with InDesign? Is having an Interactive (by that I mean, adding a name and address and answering questions in the form of text and checkboxes and submitting) form on an IPad at all possible using InDesign? Aaarrrrgggghhh!
    Barb

I have a 5 part questionnaire which is included in an IPad app built with InDesign. The recipients of the questionnaire answer the questions, add their name etc. They will visit this questionnaire on a monthly basis for 6 months, and each month a copy of the questionnaire is to be submitted to 3 different people. The responses of the questionnaire will need to be maintained for editing and updating each month.

  • Interactive PDF stopped working after upgrade to Safari 7.1 (i.e. all Mavericks users), Suggestions?

We have a set of interactive PDF forms that our users access via the web.  We have to use the PDF forms online because they are configured to pre-fill basic information that is acquired from our database/information system, which our users can only access via a web-based interface (i.e. no client).  Furthermore, when we save/submit any of these forms, the resulting FDF needs to also be tied to whatever record the user is working on (again, via the web-based interface).
It appears that the Adobe plugin for Macintosh only works for Safari, and 90% of our users are on Macs... so for the last few years we have recommended Safari as the only browser that will work for any Mac user one who uses these forms.
However the Adobe plugin doesn't appear to be working very well with the latest update of Safari (7.1).  We can open the forms online, and all the pre-filled data is present, and initially we are able to interact with our form and we can even save/submit.  However at some point we simply lose the ability to interact with any of the fields (i.e. after a few minutes of initial use, or if we attempt to edit after re-opening a saved form).  Strangely enough - we can still cut and copy text, and the save button still works - but that is about it... no typing or clicking radio buttons etc..
And as Mac users are probably aware, the Safari 7.1 upgrade is tied to the Mavericks OS upgrade - and you can't really just go back to an older version!
    Questions:
    1) Can Adobe be made to work on a Mac with any browser other than Safari?
    2) Are there any other Mac users who use interactive PDF's in Safari 7.1?  And if so, are you having (or did you have) any issues and how did you fix them?
    3) I have created all our interactive forms on Adobe Pro 9.0 (which I only use to maintain these forms).  Until now I have had no reason to upgrade... but could the older version of Pro be part of our problem?

  • InDesign crashes every time I export to interactive PDF??

I am using InDesign CS6 on Windows 7 professional.
I have restarted the computer several times. CS6 is all up to date.
I have experimented on several existing documents as well as brand new documents. It makes no difference.
Interestingly, InDesign DOES export the interactive PDF just fine, I can open it and it works. However, before the document finishes processing, InDesign pops up an error message saying that InDesign has stopped working and must shut down. So when I have many PDFs from various files to export, it's a major pain to have indd crash & recover documents every time.
Files crash no matter what the content, I've tried new doc with only a yellow circle. I've tried new doc using only system fonts.
I've never used interactive PDFs before today, so I have no idea if this is a recent problem or not.
    Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!!
    -Tia

Peter, ID is patched to version 8.0.2 & I followed the steps to replace my preference (and confirmed they were deleted) and I'm still having the same issue of ID crashing whenever I export an interactive PDF.
I've tested it on all four of our computers here, and it does it to everyone--so I'm guessing it's something system-wide on our part. I am going to trying uninstalling some plugins that we all have and report back later.

  • Cannot open/view/access interactive pdf form using Safari

I was unable to open interactive pdf forms from websites with Safari 6 on my iMac. I received the following message:
    Quote
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
For further support, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html

I still couldn't view/open/access the form even after I upgraded to Version 11.0.04 of Adobe Reader.
This problem happens only (I believe) after I updated OS X and Safari. Previously I was able to do it without any trouble as recently as July 2013. However, I don't encounter any issue if it is just an ordinary pdf document especailly if it can be downloaded to be opened later.
As far as I can ascertain, I don't have any plug-in except for McAfee SiteAdvisor 2.0, 1Password 3.9.0, AdBlock 2.5.46 (which is disabled), Evernote Web Clipper 5.7, and Open In Internet Explorer 1.0 (by Parallels).
    I am using OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and Safari 6.0.5 (8536.30.1).
Can anyone please help? Thank you.

Thank you, Carolyn Samit and andyBall_uk, for your prompt responses and suggestions.
Although I didn't follow your recommendations, they gave me some idea regarding what to do to resolve the issue.
The solution is actually very simple. I uninstalled my existing Adobe Reader (using CleanMyMac 2 but I believe moving the app to trash should do it as well), downloaded a fresh copy (version 11.0.04) and reinstalled it again. When the software was being installed, it asked whether I wanted to make Adobe Reader (AR) the default PDF reader. I indicated OK and allowed installation to proceed and finish.
After installation of AR, I reopened Safari and went to a website to click the link to the pdf form. And lo and behold, I was able to open/access/view the document! It worked with a second website.
So the lesson is when installing an upgrade remember to make Adobe Reader the default PDF reader.
I hope that this procedure can help others resolve their issue if they have a similar problem.
