Lightening Cable Issue

My iPhone 6 Plus cable charger is no longer recognized by the phone and will not work. Research tells me this is a major issue with the lightening cables. I am disappointed because I have come to expect such higher quality products from Apple.

Dear, NBT102 Thank you for posting a question on our page.  The Lightning cable is a big problem! UnFortunately I have had this problem too.  If you pick up the cable from the usb end then inside the white layer overtop of the cords it puts tension on the wires inside.  They do get loose very easily.  If you call apple and ask for a new cord they should ship you a new one! This is a big problem for Apple and they are racing to try to find a soulution.  If you have any more problems  please feel free to post them. Thanks good luck

Please post a link where it says it's a big problem for Apple and they are racing to find a solution. From where are you sourcing this information? Are trying to pose as an Apple employee to make yourself appear you have some kind inside information? By the way what you are talking about and what the OP is talking about are two different issues. Yours is neglect. The OP likely just needs to clean out the port.

  • IOS7 Official Lightening Cable Issue

iOS7 is telling me that the official lightening cable, which came with my phone, is not supported. I know this has been implemented for unofficial cables, so is this just a bug? It even continues to pop-up that message when there is no cable inserted which leads me to believe so.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

It's VERY obnoxious too! It will pop-up every couple minutes and obstruct my view in any app I'm in. I should've taken the advice of a friend and waited a while until all the bugs are squashed.

  • Lightening Cable that shipped with iPhone5 now not certified

Since upgrading to iOS7 charging the phone has become problematic.
I now get this warnng saying the cable or accesory is not certified this is the Lightening Cable that shipped with the iPhone so it would have a certified chip.
If I move the cable charger & phone to a different power point this sometimes allows charging.
I have a couple of questions that arrise having read about these glitches.
Is it possible that the certified chip has somehow been burnt out (possible in the iOS 7 upgrade)?
I have read that now the Lightening connector is now handed(as a result of iOS7) so there is now a right way up?
One persons solution is to pull the cable up firmly to the left side front and hold the cable in place with an elastic band whilst charging .
I do not expect to have to jiggle cables and change to different power outlets to enable charging firstly changing wall sockets in a newly rewired house would point more at a poor connection with the Lightening plug & socket.
There has also been suggestions that the socket in the iPhone can become restricted through lint (fluff) it sounds posible but why should this rear its head after the instalation of iOS7?
Were this the case then surley the cable would not be seen at all so there would be no chance of receiving a message informing me that my Apple Lightening cable (as supplied with the phone ) is not autherized ?
So is the autherization chip overly sensative to the effects of a reboot after the iOS7 upgrade and the succesive ones since and has become corrupted?
This Lightening cable issue is most tiresome having to waste time just to charge the phone daily & then I have the prospect of spending up to half a day getting to the Apple Store to see if this can be resoved .
Is this genuine Lightening cable(not been recognised) issue caused by iOS7 or the result of dirt in the socket preventing charging .
Assuming that the issue has been caused by a worthy idea of protecting the user from injury from non Apple accesories with a clever tweek to the iOS an immenant fix lke yesterday would be good .
I am not used to this from Apple products (they simple work) and hope that this is resolved rapidly since I am getting to feel like throwing my iPhone out of a high window or beating it with a large hammer .

The most likely cause is dirt in the Lightning connector on the bottom of the phone. Look in it with a good light and a magnifying glass. If you see any lint or other dirt clean it with a wooden toothpick.
After that, I would suspect the cable.

  • Lightening cable damaged. Still under warantee, yet I'm being refused a replacement!

I bought a new lightening cable in December. The sheath at the connector end has torn open. I had the same issue with the orignal. Now although it's been only 6 months since I bought the cable, I am being refused a free replacement!! This is a design flaw that Apple should own up to. How else do you explain the same damage at the same place in such short time? I've been careful to unplug only from the adaptor but it's been of no use! Who can I take up the issue with? Please help!
    Regards,
    Paul

Hi Ralph, I had taken this from a reseller. They have spoken to the Apple rep. (I have the case ID) who in turn has refused to replace the cable. The reseller also mentioned that this is a fairly regular issue & that they used to replace the cables up until a month ago. I've been using versions the iPhone for 4 years now & have never had any issues so this problem & the service response is very disappointing!
I'll get in touch with Apple care & see how it goes. Thanks for the help!

  • Problems with Lightening Cable Durability

Hi!  I've had the iPhone 5 for a few months and I'm already on my 3rd Lightening cable in my car. The first one got stepped on and the second fell on the car floor by my wet feet.  Both cords stopped working immediately. I had the old cord in my car for years and it was way more durable and protected from damage. Has anyone else noticed durability issues?

I've had a new iPad since November '12 and I'm on my 4th cable. They keep shorting out around the tip of the connector. I agree that they are not durable enough. Personally, I preferred the 30 pin connector cords. They lasted much longer. I hope Apple does something soon about this problem. I'm tired of exchanging cords every 1.5 months.

  • TS2634 iPad 4th Gen not charging with included apple 12w adapter & lightening cable.

So I've only has this iPad since Xmas.
It worked perfectly until a week ago when I started having charging issues with the stock accessories.
I plugged it in to the wall using the cable and adapter it came with and nothing. Not even the usual "Not Charging" message you may sometimes see when using an old computer's usb port.  However, if I turn it completely off while the cable is connected to the wall, It will charge just extremely slow (takes about 12-16 hours for a full charge).
Its a 4th Gen iPad 16GB (Wifi only) with the latest software update 6.0.1
Here are the steps I have taken thus far:
I've tried isolating the problem using the accessories that came with the iPad (Cable and Adapter) and these steps below...
    1. Tried different adapters and lightening cables (all apple products btw). Some will give me the "Not Charging" message, but still the same issue. Every now and then the lighting bolt charge indicator will show up, but it either switches back to not charging or will still charge extremely slow (and yes I've even tried disabling all the radio toggles such as wifi, location services, bluetooth, push, etc...)
    2. Utilized the same steps listed with the accessories as above using different wall outlets
    3. Hard Reset (Sleep+Home) then plugging in cable before, during, & after boot logo.
Haven't put it into DFU Mode yet & would like to avoid this for obvious reasons if possible.  Any other options I'm not thinking off?

Make an appointment at your local apple store and take it in. there may be something wrong with the charging port or the software that tell it what to do. ANd that's something for the pros to deal with.
If you didn't buy it at an Apple store you can take it back where you bought it (depending on their return policy but most places have 90 days)
The reason I suggest that....I bought mine at Best Buy and it had charging issues. I took it into best buy (the closest apple store is over an hour away) and they simply exchanged mine for a new one. If you take it into apple, the policy is to exchange your malfunctioning one for a refurbished replacement.
So I got a new device instead of a refurb. Not that refurbs are bad, sometimes they are better than the new ones, but I liked being able to walk out with a brand new device instead of a used one.
Now if you bought it from Apple, then that's where you need to take it back to.

  • Lightening Cable Burn - Could have burned the house down

I made the sign of the cross when I saw this. Whew. What if the cable had been in the bed or on papers........Apple Lightening Cable [not a $2 knock off from Hong Kong] developed a short and burned into the hardwood floor. It was just plugged in with no device attached when it started to burn. Some HiZ condition in the strain relief at the end. Here are some X-Rays of the interior - The mini PCB doesn't seem to have damage, short developed inside where the wires bunch together. Apple can have the cable for FA with their latest Chinese Mfr. Not sure it's worth a trip to the store to get another $20 cable. Or if they would even honor it........UNPLUG THESE THINGS when not in use, or at least tie wrap in a secure location.

I am sure Apple would like to see the cable ,if less than 12 months old it has warranty
take it to an Apple genius Bar
