Lighting Effects in CS6
I now have the latest updates to CS6 and Lighting Effects is still not available.
It should be in Filters/Render ?
are you talking about photoshop? if so: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/add-lighting-effects.html

Cannot use lighting effect in CS6 extended
When I use the lighting effect filter in CS6 extended, it only creates a new layer without any change in the menu and other things. As advised, I try to edit the GPU setting under the edit menu but the column is in grey colour and cannot be edited. I have changed my display card to AMD Radeon HD 7770 with an updated driver but it still not works.
Are you sure the document is an RGB 8-bit/channel image?

Problem with accessing lighting effects in cc and cs6. In cc programme freezes and then window appears saying amd driver stopped working but is now ok but cc still frozen. Tried opening in cs6 no problem with driver but just default spotlight appears and then programme freezes. Any suggestions.
That is very old for drivers and new driver for the chipset will not be coming I do not see it as supported either Photoshop CC and CC 2014 GPU FAQ
Tested video cards for Photoshop CC and CC 2014
Adobe tested the following video cards before the release of Photoshop CC and CC 2014. This document lists the video card by series. The minimum amount of VRAM supported on video cards for Photoshop CC and CC 2014 is 512 MB.
Important: This document is updated as newly released cards are tested. However, Adobe cannot test all cards in a timely manner. If a video card is not listed here, but was released after May 2013, you can assume that the card will work with Photoshop CC and CC 2014.
Adobe tested laptop and desktop versions of the following cards. Be sure to download the latest driver for your specific model (Laptop and desktop versions have slightly different names.)

Some GL functionality is available for these cards, but it's possible that newer features don't work. -
Preview toggle in Lighting Effects crashes CS6 Beta
I'm on Win7x64 Ultimate, 8GB RAM, GTX260-896 MB VRAM, latest drivers (296.10 released 13 Mar 2012).
I can use, and save the results of using, Lighting Effects (only relatively small (< 4 MB) flat 16-bit TIFFs and flat JPEGs tried so far) with no apparent difficulties. However, any but the most limited use (not exceededing three on average - applied as a continuous toggle) of the Preview button invariably causes CS6 Beta to crash. This is the error message generated by Windows:
"Adobe Photoshop CS6 has stopprd working

This happens with all Basic, Normal and Advanced Drawing Modes in the "Advanced Settings" tab of the Graphics Processor Settings dialog in the Performance Tab of Preferences. Having ticked "Use Graphics Processor" and then clicked the "Advanced Settings" button, CS6 Beta tells me that Open CL is an available option (which is consistent with the release notes for the latest drivers) but because my graphics card is now about 4 or 5 years old, I have my doubts and so my testing has included not selecting that option. However all tests have selected "Use Graphics Processor to Accelerate Computation".
I was hoping that someone in the Adobe development team might be able to have a look at this issue for me? Please?Continuing to experience this problem - this time applying the filter to a Smart Object layer in an 84 MB PSD file - crash occuring after just 3 toggles of the Preview button.
Here is the summary and full report generated by NirSoft's AppCrashView (ver 1.11) program. It takes its info from the Windows WERs.
Can anyone else reproduce this behaviour ?

Lighting Effects in CS6(extended) part of Creative Suite
When I do the Lighting Effects Filter, the effect is present. However, when I click the OK button, the effect does NOT show. Please explain.
No, all channels were selected. But, I think I figured it out ... there was a filter mask also present from a previous smart filter which should have been deleted.
Another question about filters, lighting in particular. Seems to take "forever" for the effect to render. I have a Mac Pro with the following configuration:
Model Name:
Mac Pro
Model Identifier:
MacPro4,1
Processor Name:
Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed:
2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors:
2
Total Number Of Cores:
8
L2 Cache (per core):
256 KB
L3 Cache (per processor):
8 MB
Memory:
16 GB
and the following graphics display:
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120:
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
Type: GPU
Bus: PCIe
Slot: Slot-1 and Slot-2
Do you think changing the memory or the graphics display would speed things up? -
Trouble accessing lighting effects in CS6 for a rush job!
This is driving me nuts. I love lighting effects and need it for a rush job, but it is greyed out. I am in RGB mode 8 bits. I have tried flattening, layers and no matter what I still cannot access it. Please help!! I need this right away. Thank you!!
Thank you, it looks like it could either be my graphics card or the fact that I have PS Standard. Thanks for your help. I am very sad that this feature is not avaliable. I am dealing with a very sensitive session and this effect would have been perfect. Thanks for all the help.

Lighting Effects opens, but no icons/control
When I open lighting effects in CS6, there are none of the resizing/repositioning icons [controls, widgets, whatever you want to call them] that I see in all the tutorials (and remember from previous versions of Photoshop). The Lighting Effects Properties window opens on the right, but no amount of fiddling produces any change in the image. Even if I choose a preset, my image is still just a useless darkened version of its former self (and still no icons appear).
BTW, I am running Windows 7 on a quad core laptop with a supported video card (Radeon HD 6520G), so this problem should have nothing to do with that.
Any ideas?CS6 Lighting Effects requires a video GPU you may want to check your GPU settings. The screen should look something like this.

Render lighting effects not working properly
I seem to be having a problem with the 'Render > Lighting Effects' feature. It works, but not the first time I use it. I can go in, set the controls how I'd like them, and click OK to apply. The effects will remain for about 5 to 10 seconds, and then it will revert to the image I had before the lighting effects were applied. If I repeat the process a second time, the effects will remain in place.
I'm using CS6 via Adobe Creative Suite on a Windows 7 operating system. Any ideas?Don't really understand what you are saying.
Without the ability to change the size of the oval the lighting effect will always be the same size. How can I get the buttons to appear? I have just watched several video tutorial on the lighting effects in CS6 and the buttons were showing in all of these and it was demonstrated how to change the size of the effect by using them. -
Lighting effects - no controls on a Mac
Namaste!
I've searched through all the similar posts I could find - each pretty much addresses a Windows box or never completes the thread, so I've not found an answer.
'09 iMac 24, CS6 (just updated), Software Update reports no needed updates (relative to the graphics card), etc.
When attempting to set up a lighting effect, the spot light displays but without control handles.
View->Extras is enabled (and toggling didn't help). Graphics card option was set to Basic, tried the others, no joy - and yes, the use graphics card option is also checked.
Any thoughts on what else could be causing the issue?
Thanks!Could be a graphics driver problem/limitation. The lights handles are OK in Photoshop CS6 13.0.1 on my OS X 10.6.8 machine with NVIDIA GeForce 320M.

Using the lighting effects filter causes my CS6 to crash
Hi,
I read other threads with people have issues with their PC, but I am not able to follow them to correct my issues.
When I open a JPEG file from my mark iii into CS6, I try to start a new layer and then add the lighting effects filter. CS6 crashes (the little effects comes up on the screen and the little blue circle goes round and round). Nothing happens, but if I check task manager it says photoshop is not running.
I have windows, 16GB ram, and am using a small percent of my memory.
How do I see if I need to update my video card and how do I do that?
Thank you, MicheleHave you installed all the Photoshop updates?

This is a Win7 64-bit OS, new CS6 installation with all updates applied/installed.
Use of Lighting Effects rendering filter in PhotoShop (CS6, both 64- and 32-bit versions) causes PS to crash.I did make some suggestions, which you appear to have only dabbled with... Did you try Basic mode? Did you try checking/unchecking all the various settings in all the combinations? Be exhaustive. You feel your system is advanced, I get that, but you're looking to isolate a problem here.
I'm not as familiar with nVidia as I am with ATI, but have you investigated the various settings their driver UI provides?
I'm not saying there's a definite fix in there, but In doing these things you might:
Discover a combination of settings as a workaround that makes it work acceptably for you.
Be able to tell Adobe or nVidia exactly what to look for if they want to investigate it further.
By the way, have you contacted nVidia and let them know Photoshop is crashing when it tries to use their GPU for Lighting Effects?
Lastly, some folks have found that fully uninstalling the display driver, cleaning up any remnants of it and prior display drivers that may still be laying around, and installing the latest driver sometimes helps. Display driver writers are apparently not all that good at writing installers.
I never had this issue with CS4... Only CS6
People sometimes like to say that kind of thing, but (and I'm sorry to be blunt): So what?
This is an entirely new program with new, different, and greater demands of your computer system. It's using more and different features of your GPU than any prior version.
I can only assure you that it does work okay for some others. I have had no problems with Lighting Effects myself. But you should know that since Photoshop CS6 first came out I *HAVE* had crashes while trying to do 3D modeling work. At least some of those were caused by the (then current) ATI display drivers. I (and others) contacted ATI and described the problems, and their subsequent driver versions have gotten more stable. Their current version seems to work rather well with Photoshop CS6. My point is that things can get better. Hang in there.

Lighting effects ellipse not shown in CS6
MI am using CS6 Extended on an HP dv7 Pavillion running Windows 7 Ultimate. It is a 64bit system with 6GB of RAM. Display is NVIDIA GeForce GT230M.
I am trying to uses the Filter>Render>Lighting Effects feature. I can get to the option toolbar and properties panel (which also results in workspace changing from Essential (or whatever) to the Lighting Effects workspace. What doesn't happend is that the ellipse doesn't show up that allows control of the lighting (e.g. no ellipse, no handles, nothing to see to make adjustments). I've seen this issue come up in some other threads but it doesn't appear to have been solved as recently as 9/24/2013. The other thing that happens is that I get stuck at that point, i.e., I can't change workspace, can't delete history, etc. The only way out is to close the file, which then asks if I want to apply effects which I say no to since I didn't specify any, then cancel the close.
I've adjusted the Edit>Preferences>Performance settings so that the Cache is now 6 instead of 4.
I'm taking a class and need to use this feature as part of an assignment. Any help would be appreciated.http://forums.adobe.com/thread/979969?tstart=0 I'm afraid that this videocard is not powerful enough to drive the new 3D-based Lighting effects:

Lighting Effects options not showing up for cs6 on 32-bit windows 7.
I've seen a similar question asked many times here but nothing seems to be working.
When I go to filter -> render -> lighting effects it seems to pop up some kind of options pane for maybe a quarter second while it's thinking, but once it's done all it does is create a duplicate layer called "lighting effects". I never actually see the options.
I've updated my drivers, and I just installed cs6 today, without importing any of my old settings from before.
Any idea what's going on?Quote from »photoshop_reference.pdf«:
Lighting effects gallery
Get better performance and results with the new, 64-bit Lighting Effects gallery. A dedicated workspace provides on-canvas controls and previews that make it easier to visualize your lighting enhancements.

CS6 Non-responsive when using Light effect filter in Photoshop
Win 7 OS. I am trying to use the light effect filter and when I select it photoshop gets locked up and won't respond until I end task in task manager (it says photoshop not responding in task manager). Is there a fix for this? I did all of my updates and it still happens. I have homework to do, I need to fix this issue. Any help is appreciated,
Thank youEvery time I try and use lighting effect, on my Win 7, CS6 it crashes. I at least get to use it, but when I click "ok" for the changes to take place, "Adobe has stopped working" and just crashes.
I looked into my Graphics Card drivers update... (AMD RADEON hd 6450) and on the site, I chose a very new update for a catalyst... blah blah. Which gave me this new control panel specific with this new driver update. However, once I downloaded it, restarted (for s & g's) it doesn't show up in my graphics card properties... its the same driver as before. So this may not have anything to do with what help I need. Although, it has a new "control center" that I looked at and its all martian to me.
Someone please help me to resolve this issue??!! I can give more information if needed. -
cs6 lighting effects, down loaded plug in and did not get cs6 version, got lighting effects classic. How do I down load cs6 version?
windows 7 32 bitThe lightning effects should be there, but if you don't have Use Graphics Processor enabled under Edit>Preferences>Performance it should just be grayed out and not missing from Filter>Render>Lighting Effects menu.
The only download is for the lighting effects classic.
And you are using windows 7 and not xp?
Anyway i ran windows 8 32 bit briefly during the photoshop cs6 public beta and was able to use the lightning effects, so perhaps your video card driver needs updating from the graphics card makers website and not through windows updating.
