LIGHTNING ADAPTER has fused to the USB port that is factory installed in my car. It will not release from the port and the port is no longer working as a result of my efforts to retrieve the USB cord. I have been an iPhone owner since the first release in 2007. I have never had a problem with my Apple products and have remained an enthusiastic, loyal customer. It is my understanding that Apple only has "extra" USB cords in Apple store. I live in a rural area without access to an Apple Store. Retailers and Carriers did not receive shipments of extra charging cords. This is unacceptable. I am absolutely at a loss because my port in my brand new car is not longer functioning and will likely have to be replaced, AT MY EXPENSE. My "Lightning" cord is literally stuck in my vehicle. My phone is currently sitting at Radioshack being charged so that I have at least a charge when I head out of town on business early tomorrow morning. Suggestions please as I am a VERY unhappy customer!

My ipod 4th gen screen kept jumping this morning. Had to do a restore to factory conditions and it is working fine now. However, it originally had a factory installed Nike+ app on it and it did not install with the restore. I use this app daily with the running chip to log my workouts. Anyone know how to get this app back from Apple? Loading the Nike app from the app store is not the same thing as you need gps running continually for it to work (as with an iphone). Can't have that with my ipod unless I'm connected to wifi. Help?? Thanks.
If you go to Settings do you see an entry for the Nike app? There is no way to delete or hide that app?
Have you tired using the Spotlight search? Maybe you just can't find it.
Next would be to restore a gain. First from backup then next to factory settings/new iPod.

Does work on the iPOd. You just do not get all the information that GPS/cellular connection can get. You will still be able to get distance/footstrikes like the installed app an you do not need the shoe sensor.. It uses the built-in sensors on the iPod -

I recently saw a small device at Best Buy that allows my computer to connect remotely to the internet (via cable modem) using the USB port that costs only $60. Do you know of this and can you comment?
Are you trying to do this because your Ethernet port is broken? Is it a wireless device? Can you link to a product description?

Why are you posting in this forum about what occured with an independent service provider? How is is at all relevant to Apple?? In fact, service by any person or business not authorized by Apple voids any waranty. -
My Iphone still won't charge even after I had tried plugging it in and waiting then restarting it, it still showed up on the screen that it has to be charged, even when it was in the USB port. I tried plugging it into the wall, a computer, I even switched out the USB cables but it still wouldn't charge. Help me please

It sounds like your iPhone 4S is not charging when plugged in. I found an article with some steps that might help with this. While i charge my ipad with adapter the adapter more specifically the internal round cell of adapter and the usb port becomes very very hot... And ultimately my ipad back starts heating a bit. Is that normal?
Take your charger, cable & iPad to an Apple Store for evaluation.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

I run SmartBoards connected to iMacs running 10.7 and 10.8 throughout my school. On one of these computers the mouse has recently started freezing the minute a SmartBoard is plugged in to the USB port. The mouse 'runs' to the bottom right side of the screen, a cloud often is under the pointer, and it is not longer interactive. You can move the mouse upward a bit with the cloud following some of the time but it does not work. Once the SmartBoard is unplugged the mouse works normally. This particular computer worked fine with the SmartBoard until recenlty. Any solutions or ideas?

My computer has Bitlocker encryption. When I plug in my iPod Shuffle to the USB port, iTunes does not recognize it. When asked to encrpt the Shuffle I say no, but still not recognized. When I encrypt it, still not recognized (even after it was restored by iTunes). Any suggestions please?

The USB ports on my 30" Cinema HD display appear to not work. The monitor has not been used for almost a year, when I upgraded to a new Mac Book Pro and the 27" retina display. Now I need to move the computer back and forth between two locations using the two displays. The need for operating USB ports is essential. Any ideas. The display appears entirely normal. Am running OS X 10.9.

If you have a very fine nosed pair of tweezers you can try to pull it out. However take care, if you put any scratches on the device and something goes wrong with your port in the future, someone could use those scratches to void the warranty. (ANY visible damage can be grounds to not honor the warranty)
If you have an apple store nearby, I'd make an appointment and take it in and see if they can remove it. -
How can I test the usb port on my Time Capsule to see if it is working?
Ever since lightening struck nearby (which took out our internet and copy machine) the printer I had connected to the usb port on my Time Capsule in my office has has failed to print through the TC. I can plug the printer directly into my MacBookAir and can print just fine. So there is nothing wrong with the printer nor the usb cable.
I've turned off and unplugged the printer with the usb cable connected & disconnected to the TC, no change. I've unplugged the TC, no change. I've opened the printer utility several times, and always get the "offline" error. I open the print queue, and it says the printer is not connected. I reinstalled the driver for the printer, still the same thing.
I'm starting to wonder if the usb port on my Time Capsule got fried. Any help anyone can give in trying to see if the usb port even functions anymore would be greatly appreciated.
My Time Capsule is model no. A1409.Power is not likely to be killed .. it is the data components that are more fragile.
So you do have power which as you say is why the USB flashes.. but you don't have signal.
The only other thing you can do is use USB powered hub.. if you have one handy.. but I would not go out and buy one.
A damaged board is impossible (at cost less than replacement TC) to repair. And repairers do not like working on stuff damaged by lightning as components that did survive were stressed.. the transistor junctions become liable to fail at any time.. so you repair it and it just keeps coming back as not working. Sorry if you cannot use it without USB junk it and buy a replacement. A second hand Gen3 is about the best of them it seems.
You can also buy an ethernet to USB print server.. but a new ethernet or wireless network printer is probably near to the same price.
You can hunt ebay for second hand USB print servers.. or airport express, extreme or TC.. often you can find something suitable for just a few dollars if you shop well. Since you don't need the latest greatest to do this sort of job.. and people are disposing of things like USB print servers as soon as they buy network printers. -
Well, for the first time ever in my 2 years of having this IPOD plug for my 5th Gen...I wanted to upload some pics on my ipod, but i plugged the port into the computer and the other part into my ipod, and it said my port had a power surge of some sort. So i can't charge my ipod via computer, but it works in my ipod player (which is my deck that i have in my bedroom to play music through speakers) and it works...And other USB items (i.e webcam) work in any port...So its seems its just the plug.
It all of a sudden worked when i just plugged it in as i wrote this to be sure what it said, but does anyone know why this happened?When you say "port" do you mean the iPod cable that has a dock connector on one end and a USB connector on the other end? When you have your iPod connected to your iPod player does the player have a dock connector on it such that the iPod plugs directly into the player? If the answer to both of these questions is yes then I would suspect that the iPod cable is bad or on its way out. Another test of the cable would be to connect it to an iPod power adapter that plugs into the wall and see if the iPod charges.
The other possibility is that there are other USB devices connected to your computer and when the iPod is connected the USB ports on the computer are unable to supply sufficient power to all of those devices. -
Cannot get my iMac chooser to acknowledge the USB port for Epson SP 700
I have an old iMac (that looks like a big blue bubble) with OS 9.2. I have an Epson Stylus Photo 700 that I’ve had since 1998.
I have a set of 9 year old triplets that I want to set the two up together! I’m thinking Good Luck…because I have tried everything. I downloaded the Epson drivers, bought a USB/Parallel adapter (as the Epson has no USB port.) The apple acknowledges the SP 700 under the chooser, but there is NOTHING on the right of the chooser to acknowledge the Epson in the USB port. Do you have any suggestions? I have a feeling there is some adapter card that is not on my OS 9.2 that needs to be downloaded. I saw something on the site 1.4.1, but I am scared to download that as under the apple system for the printer it says “O” next to the USB port , but it says 1.5.5, so I figure it is not smart to download any #’s less than that (like 1.4.1). Do you know of any adapter card that would work? Or some download I don’t know about, or is there one? Or can this even work or am I out of luck! I would be greatly appreciative of anything anyone could suggest.

THose early Epson USB drivers could be pretty pernickety, and even more so when used with a serial to USB adaptor. I see HERE, that there are a couple of "Driver updaters" available for use with the iMac etc. It may be worth trying them. THere is also some relevant information on the Epson site at http://www.epson.com.sg/other/help/inkjetcommonfaq.shtml
But a couple of other points. Firstly you've posted in the iMac G5 forum (which is mainly inhabited by people using the much newer "flat screen" iMacs that run much later operatings systems than 9.2. You are more likely to find someone who knows about this probem (or at least can remember whether there was a simple answer!) in either the iMac G3 forum at http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=888 or in the OS9 forum at http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=669
Secondly, those old printers can be pretty expensive to run , especially where children and colored ink are concerned! You may find that you can get a much newer printer, with cheaper ink and less problems with set-up, for not much more (maybe even less!) than a set of inkcartridges for the old Epson. I know OS9 compatible printers are getting hard to find, but something a little later than your Epson 700 (even a second hand Canon i560 or similar) might be a lot less trouble, and cheaper in teh long run, especially if children are using it.
