I'm talking about an Apple "Universal Dock" that I used with my 4th gen iPod Touch, which was then connected to my Hi-Fi system via the audio connector on the back of the dock. Worked perfectly!
Now when I mount the Lightning Adapter (to 30 pin) on the dock, and then my new 5th gen iPod Touch, there's no audio out of that dock audio connector.
just had a chance to test your test
I took both a Universal dock and an iPad dock
Added the 30 pin adapter plugged in to both ( one at a time)
plugged in my iPhone 5 and then attached the dock to an external speaker via the
3.5mm socket and the Aux in on the speaker
played music on the iPhone 5 and it played perfectly through the speakers trying both docs
So sorry the 30 pin to Lightning adapter DOES transmit music

  • Can I use a  new ipod touch in an old dock/speaker system

I will be in the states soon and thinking of getting and I pod touch the 5th edition. However I have an older dock/speaker system and wonder will it work in it. I have heard that you have to buy an adaptor. Is this true and are they easy to get and how expensive are they. Also is there any issue with buying one in the states and using it in Europe

is the lightning to 30 pin adapter. There are some third party ones out there, but not a ton. If you go for a third party one go for a name brand not a no name generic.
If you want to buy one, look for a retailer with a good return policy so if it doesn't work you can take it back.
As to world wide use, shouldn't be a problem. The only thing you need to worry about is making sure you have a plug adapter if your charger is rated for world wide voltage, or making sure you have a charger that can handle the world wide variances in power. (Usually rated 100-240V in the specs)

  • 30 pin to lightning adapter broken?

My official apple 30 pin to lightning adapter has randomly stopped working.  It worked in my car and on my dock, but all of a sudden the ipod says device not supported when connected and the dock doesn't connect at all.  Tried girlfriend's iphone 5 and same result on the dock and in the car.  Any advice or is it just the adapter that has broken?  Thanks

Have checked for fluff and given it a good blow to clear anything out. The ipod charges fine with the lightning usb charger but still no joy.  As the iphone didn't work either I suspect the chip may have failed.  I purchased 6 November 2013 so just in the 12 months warranty so it looks as though a trip to the apple store may be required.
    Thank you

  • Micro usb to lightning adapter works in IOS7??

There are plenty of discussion flowing around saying that IOS7 doesn't support 3rd party cable.
However, I have couple of devices that uses micro USB cables and I am thinking about getting the micro usb to lightning adapter (official apple one).
Does anyone know if the micro usb to lightning adapter (official apple one) works with iphone5s with IOS7 on ANY micro usb cable?
    Thanks in advance!

I saw the reviews saying it works (they guy bought it in Dec 2013), however, I confirmed that mine APPLE-branded micro USB to lightning adapter doesn't work after I replaced my iphone5 with iphone5s (build-in iOS7). I bought it from apple store on Nov 2012. Going to check with apple store.

    Alternatively...
    is this what you're after?
If so, have a look here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lightning-female-30-pin-Dock-Cable-Adapter/dp/B00DZN3GZK /ref=pd_sim_sbs_ce_1
    or this one...

Or google "lightning female to 30-pin dock male cable adaptor". The cruicial part is female lightning to male 30-pin ends.
The Apple cable is a female 30-pin to male lightning end.

  • Why doesn't a genuine Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter work with an iPhone 6 Plus?

Hello all -  I was wondering if anyone else out there was having an issue with their Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter not working with their new iPhone 6 Plus?  The adapter worked fine with my iPhone 5, but since I got my new phone, I keep getting the message that says that "this accessory may not be compatible..." Did Apple change something with their Lightning ports?  Should I purchase a new 30 pin to Lightning adapter?  This is annoying!  I have used it in my car (Kia) for over a year with an iPhone 5 and it worked flawlessly.

    Howdy nanster23,
If you have as yet been unable to use this 30pin to lightning bolt adapter, I would like to recommend the troubleshooting in the following article to help you get that squared away:
If you need help with iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch accessories
These sections in particular since you have already done a couple of them:
Disconnect and inspect the accessory, then restart your device
Disconnect the accessory and turn it off, if possible.
Inspect the connection between the accessory and device and make sure that no debris or other damage is present.
Restart your iOS device by turning it off, then back on. When the Home screen appears, reconnect the accessory.
Restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore your iOS device. You should rarely need to use this step with an accessory issue. If the issue only affects a third-party accessory, contact the manufacturer before restoring the device.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Will MIDI keyboard (30 pin) work over lightning adapter?  If I get 30pin o lightning adapter?

I have a lot of older 30 pin iOs accessories. iRig keyboard, yamaha i-MX1, Tascam iU2 Audio that have 30pin connector, and a bunch of iOS synthesiser apps. I want to use those accessories on newer iPHONE AND IPAD that have lightning connector.
So the obvious solution would be to get a 30 pin to lightning adapter. But I'm not sure it would work for sure. And this 30 pin to lightning adapter is not cheap.
Anyone tried to use any of listed devices on iOS 8 or 8.1.1 or 8.2 with any luck?
I have bought an off brand (not an original) 30 pin to lightning adapter, and that didn't work. I'm wondering if it's a crappy adapter or just those interfaces are incompatible even when those accessories are plugged in through 30 pin to lightning adapter.

    I'm wondering if it's a crappy adapter
    yes it most likely is
always best to buy genuine then if there are issues you can use an Apple genius bar
I use the Apple adapter in several scenarios all with iOS8 xx
    No issues

  • 30 Pin cable combined with a 30 pin to Lightning Adapter (iPhone 5 problem)

Hey guys, I Have an iPhone 5.
I have an old iPhone 4 cable (official apple) and a lightning adapter (again, official apple) and I can charge from the wall no problem, however I don't seem to be able to connect it to my laptop for iTunes to recognise it?/
It's not the usb ports as I borrowed my brother's iPhone 5 lightning cable and that seems to work perfect, is there any reason why this doesn't work?

If you mean the 30 pin to lightning adapter, then it should be from apple. It was pretty expensive and if i google the item number on google, Applestores webpage showes up as number 2 so it should be authentic!
    Item number:

  • Can I control my iphone from an accessory using the 30 pin/lightning adapter?

I want to use my old accessories to control an iPhone 5s (e.g. skip tracks using my dock remote control), does the 30 pin/lightning adapter work for this or is it just for charging/audio out?

  • When I plug in my SD to lightning adapter for the iPad retina display, nothing happens. I've tried about 50 times, and one time it magically worked, so I know it's possible. Am I doing something wrong?

I just bought a new iPad with the SD to lightning adapter to upload pictures. When I plug it in, nothing happens. I have tried it with and without the SD card inserted when I plug it in, I've tried restarting it, I've even called Apple support and the woman hadn't even heard of the adapter. One time, it did work, so I know it's possible. I didn't do anything special that time. Every other time it hasn't worked. One time I got a message that said the device was not compatible. I bought them together and the salesman said they work together. Any advice?

For some reason the lightening adapter version can be buggy.
A few tricks with mine (mine is the old 30 pin version but the premise is the same). You can give the iPad a reset. Sometimes that clears things up.
Also, if the adapter is empty then it doesn't show up, because there's nothing to make it show up. If the files on there aren't formatted correctly then they won't show up. (if you're trying to use the adapter and a card to transfer photos to your ipad, they must follow a very strict naming convention or they're not seen)

  • TS3581 Crackling static noise in audio with 30 pin lightning adapter when battery is full

Anyone else get a really bad crackling static noise through the audio when using the 30 pin lightning adapter and the battery is almost full? I am using an iPhone 5, BMW iDrive with the Y audio and USB connection. I did not have this problem with the 4S and the normal 30 pin connector. The lilghtning 30 pin adapter seems to create interference when the phone's battery is nearly full. I also see the warning message indicating that charging is not supported - and according to the troubleshooting guide this is normal - but what about the noise????

Alright, another update:   I tried another iPhone 5, which did not charge, and an iPod touch (without the lightning adapter, obviously), which also did not charge.  Additionally, I tried the lightning to 30-pin adapter with an old sync cable and my computer, and it worked fine.  At this point, it appears that the problem may be in the MDI cable coming from the car, rather than the adapter.  Perhaps it was just coincidental that it stopped working at the same time I upgraded.

  • 30 pin to lightning adapter revised?  How to purchase original version?.

In November of 2012 I ordered a 30 pin to lightning adapter through Amazon.  It had the model number A1468 on the back.  I believe Apple was the supplier for this part as it had all their standard info printed on the back of the adapter.
I used it with my iPhone 5 and later with my iPad mini to work with my Altec Lansing T612 stereo speaker docks.  It worked great.  It charged and it passed audio through.
Fast forward to this month and I purchase another adapter through Amazon using the same product link.  It won't charge or pass audio.  I try a second vendor and same issue.  I also try 4XEM and theirs charges, but won't pass audio.
I go to the Apple store in town and purchase one.  I notice immediately the part is wider than mine and not as tall.  It also doesn't match the picture on the box.  It doesn't charge or pass audio.  My working adapter from 2012 looks like the picture on the box.  Seems to me the part was revised.
How can I purchase more of these earlier versions of this adapter?

I have several genuine Apple 30/lightning adapters
Just compared one purchased back last Sept direct from Apple online at iPhone 5 release and one purchased couple of weeks ago at an Apple Retail store ,both unquestionably genuine Apple
    They are identical
I was not aware that Amazon was selling genuine Apple adapters last year ,however there were many unlicenced
copies around and certainly on Amazon .
The description you give of the box is nothing like the detail on a Genuine Apple product ,in front of me now.

  • Lightning (F) to 30 pin (M) adapter

I have an older i-pod, 30 pin. I just received a new docking station that has the lightning pin(?) for the i-phone 5. I need an adapter that goes from the lightning pin to the 30 pin (female lightning and male 30 pin.) Has anyone heard of this?  Thank you

Have been trying to locate a lightning female to 30 pin male adapter for a friend with a mix of iOS devices and have had limited success.
MiniInTheBox.com has a corded-style adaptor which might work:

I have no experience with this vendor so cannot offer any comment regarding them. As with all third-party Apple adaptors, this adaptor could support only power as no details as to operational support are shown.
Another adaptor by Sandberg has been discontinued by the manufacturer but might still be found somewhere.

This was offered on Amazon UK but they are currently out of stock - which is likely permanent if the manufacturer had discontinued the adaptor.

When I called my local Apple Store, I received a very polite but suspiciously contrived answer that Apple is "focused on forward planning" so did not offer a reverse Lightning to 30-pin adaptor. It had the quality of an official talking point given to employees for use in such circumstances.
From the rumors on the Web about Apple disallowing new iOS docking offering both a Lightning and 30-pin adaptor, the lack of a reverse Lightning to 30-pin adaptor could be related?
So while one of the above devices COULD do the job (if you could obtain it!), you would be taking a chance that everything would work correctly!
    Good luck!

  • HT1665 I just purchassed a Lightning adapter for my iPhone 5.  My car came with the normal iphone 4 connector.  I have a protective cover on my phone but now the connector will not work as the lightning connecting tong is not long enough to make contact.

Lightning adapter will not work with iPhone 5 protective cover

Your case designer should have done their homework .
They would have full details of the iPhone and its accessories
assuming they are a developer status

  • I have just got a iPod 5 gen 32gb and lightning adapter but can't get it to work with my docking station it will charge but not play audio please help??

I have bought a 5th gen iPod and lightning adapter but it won't wrk on my docking station it charges but doesn't play audio? Please help

Does the dock manufacture say it is compatible with the 5G iPod with iOS 6.0.1?
Have you went to the manufacturer's support site? Contacted them?
Try resetting the dock. How you do that depends upon the dock
    Sometimes this works
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
