Lightning Bolt thru Battery Icon

When I check my battery usage there is a lightning bolt thru it that NEVER goes away even if it has been charging all night and is no longer on the charger. I couldn't find anything on this in the user manual. Does this indicate a problem? Should I be concerned? How do I fix it?
Thanks!
Post relates to: Tungsten E2

here's the link for the palm desktop software for the E2. you need to install this to your PC and sync your handheld to save the data. though the data will not will be lost if the battery died down since E2 is using NVRAM but still it's not a guarantee. once your data got in the device you haven't don't a hotsync, you can no longer recover them back. so it's good to sync and save it to the PC so that you can re-sync it over.
to check your battery life, you can just tap the battery icon. it should show the percentage of how much battery life left.

Pre 1.4.1.1 indicates that it's charging (lightning bolt on battery at top right) even once it's unplugged from any chargers.  Only way to correct is by re-booting.  I find myself having to re-boot this thing at least once a day since the last update.
Please help or fix... or both!

    Hello bwind;
Have you installed anything from a source other than the app catalog? If so, try removing those items and see if that resolves. If not, since a restart fixes the issue at least temporarily, you may want to consider a partial erase to reload the OS.

  • IPhone 3G will not charge, stuck on "lightning bolt" low battery screen

    Hello,
Yesterday I used my iPhone all day, like normal, until the battery got so low that it died at maybe 10pm. I plugged it into the charger that night, but this morning, all that's on the screen is a big empty battery with a sliver of red and a lightning bolt. If I unplug the charger, it shows an electrical cord + a lightning bolt for about 5 seconds, then it turns off. I've tried multiple cables and multiple power sources (charger, pc), but it will not change.
I was able to get the phone into DFU mode, and I restored it via iTunes normally, but when it rebooted and said "wait for the iphone to show up in itunes to set it up", it just went back to the battery screen and never showed up in iTunes.
    Any ideas?

    Tyler,
I ended up buying and installing a new battery from Amazon, and I never had the problem again. The new one charges fine.

  • When trying to launch (D)iagnostics, iMac shows gray screen with lightning bolt and USB icons

Just in time for my birthday...
    Mid 2011 iMac with 10.6.8
Occasionally its fans would rev up to the maximum and stay there until computer is restarted or put to sleep. But today the fans were blowing (albeit more moderately) from the start. Previous solutions would not help and iMac would even put itself to sleep after a minute or less.
Resetting SMC didn't help, so I've tried to launch AHT while pressing D during the boot. It worked in the past, but now it showed gray screen with these two icons jumping around. On top of that, I couldn't find find both OSX and Drivers discs (facepalm). Luckily I had Lion install disc, so with it I launched Disk Utility and verified the disk. HDD itself passed, but OS partition was declared unrepairable and in need of format.
I have Time Machine, so I happily formatted and started installing Lion. But during install, every few minutes or even less, computer would go to sleep again. Despite that install managed to continue, but when it got to "Downloading additional stuff" part, progress stopped and countdown even started to go UP minute by minute.
I figured that every time iMac went to sleep (because probably it thought it was overheating) download had to start again and it would never finish. So I cancelled and restored Snow Leopard system from Time Machine. After booting from HDD, I verified it and it passed. But Diagnostics still won't launch.
    Any ideas?

Apple Hardware Test comes installed on the hard drive by default, but it's deleted when you erase the hard drive or you upgrade OS X.
In your case, you need the Mac OS X DVD. If you haven't got it, call Apple to get replacement discs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After getting the DVDs, insert the Mac OS X DVD and press D key while your Mac is starting to start Apple Hardware Test. Remember to run an extended test

  • Any solution to a white screen with a battery icon with a lightning bolt through it on the Tour?

My daughters blackberry tour suddenly stopped taking a charge and would not power on. It just shows a white screen, with a battery shaped icon & lightning bolt through it.  Went to our local cell store and they did a battery swap for us. The phone worked for about 2 hours then did the same thing. After a couple more swaps with no change, they un installed and re-installed the software. This again fixed it temporarily. When it quit again, we were sent a replacement phone. The replacement did the same thing. We were sent a 2nd replacement, but in the meantime, the first replacement started working. It worked for about a week then did the same thing. Now we have attempted to activate the 2nd replacement and it gets the same screen and will not charge enough to even activate it. I'm working with the customer support (phone is under warranty still), but so far no solution. Anyone else experience this? I find it strange that we now have a 3rd phone, doing the same thing and we have tried new batteries and an new charger.

Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage).
If it doesn't boot--try using a wall outlet charger if you are not. If you are connected via USB to the PC, make certain that you have Desktop Manager (or the USB device drivers) installed, which you can download below.
Make certain your USB cable is connected to one of the PC's main rear USB ports. Not a USB hub, nor a monitor USB port, nor a USB port on the front of the PC.

  • Battery Icon During Charging Does Not Show The Lightning Bolt?

How can i fix my iphone 4? the little battery icon in the top right does not show the 'lightning bolt' while charging. Instead, it displays a power plug. If i unplug and reinsert the charging cable the icon briefly changed back into the lightning bolt but then switches back to the plug. Why is this?

Does the iPhone show that it is charging, that is, does the percent charge increase?  If not it could indicate a faulty charger or connecting cable.  Can you try a different charger and cable to see what that does?
Have you tried a power off/on and a reset to see if those help?

  • My iphone 4s will not show the lightning bolt on the battery icon while plugged in

My iphone 4s will not show the lightning bolt icon while plugged into either the wall or the computer. It shows between 1% and 4% charge. I have reset, and done a factory reset, and this has not fixed the issue. My computer will not recognize the device. While off, the iphone shows that it recognizes that it is plugged in, but i cant tell if its charging because the lightning bolt will not show. Please help.

  • IPhone plug/lightning bolt icon at 50%

    Hi,
I looked around and only found users that experienced this at or near 100% battery level. Regardless of how charged it is, when I plug it in the icon is usually a plug icon and not a lightning bolt. I believe the plug means it is no charging. Indeed, it does not look like the battery level is rising. Thoughts?
    Thanks
    SM

"But then it will randomly switch back to the lightning bolt, and a few minutes later back to the plug icon, and then back to the lightning bolt, and then back to the plug, and so on, without me ever unplugging it."
Seems logical to me. To see the battery indicator change, at the very minimum you have the screen on. That uses power, so the charge goes down, at which point the battery starts recharging. No?

  • IPod Mini Battery Icon with Lightning--PLEASE HELP!!

When I turn off my iPod, the battery symbol shows up on the screen with the lightning bolt on the left of it--even though it's fully charged. When I leave like that for a period of time and come back to it--the screen is blank but the iPod won't turn on again until I plug it in and charge it again. I think that symbol showing up is running down the battery or something.
This all started when I plugged my iPod into a different computer and I guess it got "confused" and shut down and I couldn't get it to come back on. However, I plugged it into my car charger and reset and it seemed to work fine except the battery icon in the corner had that lightning bolt.
It works fine otherwise it just seems like I will have to have it constantly charging instead of letting it sleep?!
    Any advice?

You should run the battery test to see how the battery is performing as per Apple's instructions.

  • Ipod frozen on lightning bolt charge icon.

Hey, I have an Ipod that had some repairs done to it (new screen) and I try to plug it into a computer, but all it shows is the lightning bolt charge symbol. When I do reset it just shows the tiny critical battery symbol and then goes right back to the lightning bolt. I plugged it into a wall outlet, into a speaker dock, i tried 2 computers and 2 different cables, all to no avail.
    Any ideas?

I presume you have your music and data are backed up on iTunes. If so, it's no problem. Apparently, the iPod was pulled from its power source before the lightning bolt said it was okay to do so. All you have to do is boot iTunes and wait until it reloads your music.
If you want to disconnect iPod, but you see the message “Do not disconnect”
    - If iPod is downloading music, wait for the download to complete.
    - Select iPod in the iTunes Source list and click the Eject button.
    - If iPod disappears from the iTunes Source list, but you still see the “Do not
disconnect” message on the iPod screen, disconnect iPod.
    - If iPod doesn’t disappear from the iTunes Source list, drag the iPod icon from the
desktop to the Trash (if you’re using a Mac) or click the Safely Remove Hardware icon
in the system tray and select your iPod (if you’re using a Windows PC). If you still see
the “Do not disconnect” message, restart your computer and eject iPod again.

  • Mac Mail no longer receives anything - just "lightning bolt" icon

This has happened in the past, but always briefly. Launch Mail, a "lightning bolt" icon appears next to the account and all the folders (IMAP) are grayed out. In the past it would figure it self out in short order, and start receiving email. No longer. It has been around 30 minutes and no mail. I've tried entering the password in the account settings, and deleting it so I'm prompted for the password - it never prompts. Mail seems to have simply lost the ability to receive anything.
    Suggestions...?

I have seen this in the past, and there was usually a password dialogue box hidden behind a window someplace that Mail was waiting for me to fill in. This is not the case now - no password box.
Opening the connection doctor, everything except for that one inbox shows as a green dot and "connection/login to server succeeded". The icon next to the problem inbox just spins indefinitely with the message "connecting to server". Nothing more than that happens.
I know the server is fine as my other Macs, iPhone, and webmail all work fine. For some reason, this morning my MB Pro decided not to work, with this one particular account.
    Steps to solve?

  • Red light stays on..then battery with lightning bolt show

I have the 8330 curve and as i was getting out of my car tonight and my phone dropped. It shut off and hasnt turned on since...i plugged it into my charger and the red led light stays on and then goes off and a battery with a lightning bolt shows on the screne. Is there any thing to do to fix this?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Please note that "known good" and "new" are not necessarily the same thing...while rare, a new battery can be defective.
Good luck and let us know!

  • ITunes Match, icon next to Music has a lightning bolt on it?

The icon next to Music in the top left (not the icon next to individual icones) has gone from a solid cloud, to a cloud with what seems to be a lightning bolt. If i click it, the icon becomes animated for several minutes, with wavy lines. Not sure what this indicates? both the lightning bolt or the wavy lines.

    Mine is not.
Match had been working perfectly. I decided to delete all my low bitrate matached songs and redownload them. The process was going perfectly and then I had to restart my Macbook. About 500 songs downloaded correctly and are now upgraded 256kbps AACs but every other matched song is greyed out and I cannot download it.
I have tried everything: turning off/on match, option clicking the match on/off button, creating a new itunes library, etc. No luck. I can see all my music and itunes match says all 7500 of my songs "are avilable in the cloud" but almost all of them appear in grey text and I cannot downloaded them.
Also, the cloud icon next to "music" on the sidebar shows animated diagonal lines.
Is iTunes match down? Anyone else having this issue?
Interesting, I can download/stream all 7500+ songs on my iPhone. The problem seems to be confined to itunes on my mac.

IPOD 5 Touch is not taking a charge.  It shows a picture of a lightning bolt and above that a picture of a battery at the end of the battery is a slim red line.  This was purchased in August 2013.  Could it be battery or ac charger adapter or usb cable?

Those all sound like reasonable causes.  I do not know the answer.  There is probably an Apple Support forum for the ipod that could help.  Also try the ipod Help in itunes.
