Lightning cable has issues

hi
my ipad 4 gen gets charged using only one side of lightning cable and has issues when i change the side of lightning cable
when i use the lightning cable it begins to charge however says not charging and after couple of minutes it stops to charge, the other side works fine
the other thing i noticed is that i am able to charge the iphone 5 using both sides of lightning cable
will my lightning cable fall under warranty or not its been 4 months i have bought the device
Raj

It could be a faulty Lighting cable. I'd make a Genius Bar appointment (if possible) and have the cable checked out & replaced. It should be covered under the standard (12 month) warranty.

  • Ipad lightning cable stretched and the wires have broken

My lightning cable has become stretched and the wires inside have broken, meaning it won't charge my iPad properly. I've always pulled the cable out of my iPad by gripping the plastic rather than the rubber wire so as to prevent this from happening, but it's still broken. I've had it for just under a year, will Apple replace the cable under the warranty?

They might, but probably not. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • Lightning cable replacement

My lightning cable has mysteriously stopped working, It came with my ipod touch 5th generation.
I was wondering if there was a way that I could get a replacment lightning cable.
And if so how do I go about doin that?
I just sent my ipod touch 5th gen for repair cause it started doing really odd things on the display near the bottom.  It was little white squares that could be seen mostely behind light and dark greys, blacks, and blues....And would appear worse whenever it was charging.  I don't know if that had anything to do with a bad cable or not.
    I don't know

The cable is covered by the same warranty is the iPod. Y can send it back to Apple in the same manner you did for the iPod. (you use the SN for the iPod since the cable does not have a a SN)
You can also do the exchange at an Apple store.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I took my iPhone to the Service center of M/s RSG INFOTECH PRIVATE LIMITED on April 17, 2014.
Why are you posting in this forum about what occured with an independent service provider?  How is is at all relevant to Apple??  In fact, service by any person or business not authorized by Apple voids any waranty.

  • Issues transferring photo/video from iPhone 6 to Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.5 via USB-to-Lightning cable

    Hello all—
Recent upgrader to iPhone 6. I have a mid-'09 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion and I'm seeking to transfer video I just shot on my iPhone 6 to my Macbook Pro. They are large files so I need to transfer via USB-to-Lightning cable as I don't have wi-fi capability to do the upload. However I can't access the iPhone 6 as a storage device through finder or image capture and can't figure out another way to transfer the files non-wirelessly. Any suggestions? The old iPhoto '09 on here won't let me import, either.

Why virtualize Leopard and not Snow Leopard?
I guess I did it once in Parallels:

Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) installed into Parallels is another matter altogether!

  • Lightning cable issues

My charging cable has completely stopped working, it came with the iPhone5 I purchased in November. Will Apple replace this?

They should.  I just replaced the one from my iPhone 5 purchased on launch day, and all I had to do was give the bad cable to the guy at the genius bar, and let him see the serial number from my iPhone.  In fact, I had 2 cables replaced that day and there was no problem replacing either one.
Have you tried restarting your iPhone to make sure it is a cable problem first?

  • HT201401 My Lightning cable doesn't work...Period!

It has done this once before, and started working again, but now it is completely unresponsive when connected to AC power, USB plug-in, the lot. iPhone now at 0% battery, and I have no way of charging it. Is anyone having simliar issues? And is there a fix, as I won't be able to get to an apple store for a wee while, and the lightning cable is not really mass market yet!

Unless you have one of those pad that claim to charge by laying a device on, you're out of luck until you get a new cable (assuming the cablie is at fault).  If you know anyone with a new IP5, you should plug the cable into it and see if it charges their phone.  If so, there is sometihing wrong with your phone.
Re the Apple store, you can order a cable online for home shipment. Also, keep checking eBay.  I'm sure the Hong Kong guys are working 24/7 to build a supply of knockoff cables.

  • Does it matter if the lightning cable is plugged in but not connected to an electrical outlet? Will this drain the ipad battery?

Does it matter if the lightning cable is plugged in but not connected to an electrical outlet? Will this drain the ipad battery? We use an ipad cart at school, and some of the teachers will connect all the ipads up to the cart, but then neglect to power up the cart. The laptop with the cart has already had the battery wrecked because of this (within a two month period), and I am concerned the ipads may have an issue if this continues to happen. I need some reassurance before I make the other teachers paranoid!

ok this one is kind in the gray area for me. I say if it is plugged in to a power up cart but not plugged in to a outlet, then all is is doing is not charing, and of course lossing a charge over time in standby, not really causing any issues. User guide and apple sites say it will drain the battery life.
Important: The iPad battery may drain instead of charge if iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, to a USB hub, or to the USB port on a keyboard.
however “Battery life” means the time your iPad will run before it must be recharged.
so I think it will be ok, as long as you charge it as usaul it should be fine.
just use these links for and understanding for batteries and the ipad, of course the user guide.

  • Official lightning cables always breaking.

I've been an apple user for the last 10 years and I've had my recent Iphone 5 for around a year and a half now. From around the third-sixth month I had the phone, my official lightning cable broke I then ended up spending a huge amount on a few new lightning cables from apple, since then, all the chargers have broke. As well as this, the charge time has seemed to increase month by month. I'm sure that the Iphone is damaging the chargers, as I'm extremely careful when charging.
I've tried to get phone support/chat support but can't afford the £25 it costs to have a small amount of support, hay... my phone only cost £600, why would I get phone support included in that? As well as this, I've tried many times to post questions to the apple community and have revived the message 'You are not allowed to create or update this content' I'm unsure that I will be able to post this, but Its worth a try ay?
I'm very disappointed in the apple support so far, as its the main reason I bought the phone in the first place (I've always known apple being top dogs on support issues). I feel like I have an Iphone but am not part of apples customers because I have not been treated right as of yet. three years ago I would have recommended apple to anyone because of how I'm treated as a customer, but now I'd avoid at all costs and will not being using apple products in the future.
My nearest apple store is around an hours drive away, and I do not have a car... So at the moment I'm stuck using an Iphone thats costing me £10 a month in chargers. Being a uni student, this has taken a big unexpected cut from the little earning I can get from part time work.
I'll end the rant now, But I'd just like to get some info on how I can fix my chargers or phone to stop it from damaging them. Also I'd like to hear others views on apple support over the past year or so (Because I feel as though apple want nothing to do with me as a user).
Thanks for reading and for any replies!

As well as this, the charge time has seemed to increase month by month.
Did you check if your battery is eligible to be replaced by Apple?

  • Is lightning cable a bad design?

I have gone through 5 cables within my household.  (2 Iphone 5's).  2 were original and 3 aftermarket.  There does not seem to be a difference between durability, if anything the aftermarket with braided cover seemed to perform the best.  This is new to the Iphone 5, the cables for previsous  Iphone/Ipod products lasted until the product was replaced.  (we acturally gave away cables to friends as spares).  So my questions is what is Apple going to do about this?  I am pretty sure that Steve Jobs would not have sat on this and not taken swift action to permanently fix this problem.
Is there a fix?  Is the design of being able to install the plug in either side the issue that makes it so delicate?  Does this mean that we will have to wait for an Iphone 6 to resolve?
I am very dissatisfied with my first Iphone.

Alan, I did take the two cables back, they were quite well prepared with the replacement cables and admitted that they had quite a few of the replacements for the new cable whereas the older style not so much.  They were not immediately prepared to replace the cable that had simple broken off inside the phone  but were happy to replace the one that stopped working.  Upon pushing for a replacement for both they agreed.
So for anyone with a lightning cable that either stops working or works intermittently, Apple will replace them no hassle.  For anyone who finds the idea of replacing these cables regualarly, to be a problem, no solution has been found.

  • Lightning cable not working

Why do I have to keep replacing my lightning  power cord?

Actually, I have had the same problem with my lightning cords. I travel a lot, and often times need to plug my cord in a USB outlet. After having to replace the first cord, I was told by the Apple Genius Bar to bring my other cord in because they had to do a recall. When I brought my 1st lightning cord, there was an issue with cord where it connected to the phone, and it was popping up a message saying "this accessory is not supported" and was actually removing the battery life from my phone, instead of recharging it. The lightning cord is now doing it again. I have two chargers from the 3gS and I have NEVER had a problem with those cables, but the lightning cord has been nothing, but trouble. I just made an appointment for the apple store this evening after AT&T (where I bought my 2nd cable) told me they will not replace it and I had to bring it to the Apple store. It's very frustrating and inconvenient, especially since I live like an hour away from the store.

  • Faulty lightning cable iPad 4th gen.

So I bought a new iPad today (4th gen).  After the initial setup, I plugged it in to a wall outlet while I set about downloading apps.  I noticed the iPad was slowly losing power, but I chalked it up to the fact that I was using it at the time.  Later, I tried connecting the iPad to my Mac Mini and my Thunderbolt display.  Both times I got an error message saying the USB was drawing too much power.  So, I tried plugging the iPad back into the wall outlet.  This time, I noticed that it wasn't charging at all.
I came here and saw a number of people have reported problems stemming from a faulty lightning cable.  My son recently bought an iPhone 5, so I borrowed his lightning cable.  Sure enough, as soon as I plugged it in to the iPad (using the iPad wall outlet), it immediately started charging.
I have an appointment tomorrow to hopefully get a new lightning cable.  I wanted to post here, though to officially add my name to the list.  I don't know how many problems with an item constitute a "known issue".

The iPad requires more power than the iPhone to charge it (its wall charger is 12W as opposed to the iPhone's 5W), and a lot of computers generally do not provide enough power to their USB ports to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off (if you leave it for a while and then disconnect it from your computer you may find that it's battery percentage has gone up). The wall charger is usually the most efficient way to charge the iPad.

  • Why can't my Macbook Pro connect to iPhone 5 in any way (lightning cable, Wi-Fi)?

I have a Macbook Pro, I bought it in June or July or 2011, so I'm not sure which model that makes it. But anyway, just recently, I noticed that when I plug my iPhone 5 into it, it does not recognize or acknowledge that my phone is plugged in at all. It doesn't show up in iTunes, or anywhere else for that matter. I've also noticed that with the lightning cable, it will only charge my phone on one side. I've tried plugging my cable into both usb ports, but still, the lightning cable only works on one side. I tried another cable, same thing, but when I plug both of them into my wall charger, both sides work fine.
So after my Macbook didn't recognize the phone through the cable, I just thought "eh, whatever, I'll wirelessly sync it." So I go to the settings on my phone, go to iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, and it says "Sync will resume when "Austin *****'s MacBook Pro is available." but no matter what I do, the computer never becomes available. I've considered that it might be the phone that's the problem, because I don't have another computer to test it on, but I don't see how it could as I just got this iPhone 5 just over a month ago, and it has not been dropped, or gotten water on it or anything. If anyone can help that would be amazing, as the employees at the Apple Store like to always tell me I have to buy something new, and that isn't an option right now.

    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • My original Apple charger and lightning cable doesn't charge my iphone 5 and ipad 3rd generation.

Both my devices are low in batt and i need to to use it tomorrow for work. Who would compensate my losses???
Pardon me i'm not trying to create a scene here. When i first gotten my iphone 5 (new and sealed) and before upgrading to ios 7, everything works fine. After i upgraded to ios 7, the phone main camera lost its focus after a few days usage. Fortunately the phone is under warranty and was replaced at an authorised lab BUT unfortunately i lost a fair deal of data (sms, whatsapp chat history) along the way, although most of the things have been backed up. Since there is no turning back, there is nothing i could do but to face it. And that's not all...
After a good usage of just 3 weeks, with the exact same charger and cable (both original from that came with the phone), it suddenly failed to charge. I have tried plugging it in and out and still to no avail. By the way i have not mention, the ORIGINAL lightning cable sleeve gave way after just a few weeks use. And do mind that it was HOME USE. Havent been brought out to use roughly.
And guess what, I JUST TRIED PLUGGED THE ORIGINAL LIGHTNING CABLE TO A SAMSUNG CHARGER AND IT WORKED.
I hereby swear to God that every word i said here is nothing but the truth. Not spamming. It has already caused me countless inconvenience but still i will bring the charger and the phone to the authorised lab once again to have it checked, and looking forward to get an explanation.

Both charger and cable are covered under warranty as well.  Get them replaced.
    Who would compensate my losses???
    Nobody

  • Original Lightning cable doesn't work

Hi , first of all sorry for my bad english.
I bought an original Lightning cable with the apple logo and all the stuff printed on the box, but when I tried on my phone it doesn't work. And a pop-up appear with the text: "the accessory may not be certified" or something like that. But this can not be possible because I bought it on a original apple store.
So then I plugged it in to another iOS device and it works with this devices!, maybe someone is thinking: 'oh is dirt in the Lightning connector on the iphone'. But that was the first thing I checked and it is ok, no dirt, no humidity no nothing.
The most bizarre of all is that a friend give me his original lightning cable (the one who came with his iPhone) and it works on my phone!
I've tried with other original cables such as one from an iPad for example and it works too.
So I went to the Apple Store where I bought the cable and they changed it for a new one, and surprise... it doesn't work. So what I can do? Looks like I'm not able to use other lightning cable who has not came with the original iDevice. I suspect is something with the iOS system, but I have resetted, and updated to iOS 8.2 and nothing. I've tried many things, and I don't know what else I can do. I'm really disappointed of apple this time, also I'm surprise with the worldwide problem of the quikly battery draining on iOS8, and apple fall on deaf ears with this
Does anyone has an idea what could be the reason for this annoying problem?

Unless you have one of those pad that claim to charge by laying a device on, you're out of luck until you get a new cable (assuming the cablie is at fault).  If you know anyone with a new IP5, you should plug the cable into it and see if it charges their phone.  If so, there is sometihing wrong with your phone.
