Lightning cable not working

Why do I have to keep replacing my lightning  power cord?

Actually, I have had the same problem with my lightning cords. I travel a lot, and often times need to plug my cord in a USB outlet. After having to replace the first cord, I was told by the Apple Genius Bar to bring my other cord in because they had to do a recall. When I brought my 1st lightning cord, there was an issue with cord where it connected to the phone, and it was popping up a message saying "this accessory is not supported" and was actually removing the battery life from my phone, instead of recharging it. The lightning cord is now doing it again. I have two chargers from the 3gS and I have NEVER had a problem with those cables, but the lightning cord has been nothing, but trouble. I just made an appointment for the apple store this evening after AT&T (where I bought my 2nd cable) told me they will not replace it and I had to bring it to the Apple store. It's very frustrating and inconvenient, especially since I live like an hour away from the store.

  • Lightning cable not working from both sides (not reversible)

    Hi,
2 days ago I started to notice something... I was about to charge my iphone with the cable but I noticed that it wanst charging... I checked the usb ports from my computer and 2 wall adapters and sometimes it did charge and some did not, but then I fliped the lightning cable it did, what I mean is that if I plug the charging cable in the "right side" it does charge and gets recognized by iTunes, if i plug it with the "wrong side" it doesnt.
At this moment I dont know if the cable is the problem or the phone, because I only own one lightning cable. I`ll try to go to a apple store to check with another cables, but still i want to know if there is more people with this problem and if it has some kindo of solution.
my phone is 1 month old btw...
    Saludos y disculpen mi ingles

I have the same problem with my iPhone 5. It started last week when I found out that the phone is not charging when connected. So I take out the cable and found out that the pins on the connector cable was black and have a burnt smell. I leave the phone for several minutes and tried to connect it again. I found out that cable only work on one side.
So I took some pictures and went to Apple online support to request for a new cable. I got a new cable and the problem still persists. Now I know that the problem is with the connector on the phone. I went to the Apple online support and request for a repair. I sent them the phone and they said that they put the repair on hold.
I telephoned the support centre asking why they put the work on hold, and they told me that the repair is not covered because the problem might be caused by liquid damage. I was pretty sure that it wasn't liquid damage because I believe I take extra good care of the £529 phone. The operator asked me to ask my insurance company (which I don't have) in case they cover that accident. The operator also told me that the repair cost, £152+VAT is cheaper than usual £170++VAT. It was very disappointing.
Pretty sure it wasn't liquid damage, I telephoned the support centre again, and this time the operator told me that it is because of accident and they don't cover it. She couldn't explain exactly what is the problem and connected me with a senior operator. The senior operator told me that the engineers think that it might be cause by liquid damage. Then I told her that I have pictures of the burnt cable. She let me send those pictures and they'll contact me again by tomorrow. So I still don't know what is the conditon of my claim.
So as a conclusion... The engineers think that the damage might be caused by liquid damage, but the term 'might' does mean that it 'might not' caused by liquid damage too. I have read other discussions telling that they found out that their cable has some corrosion on the pins even though there have not been any contact with liquid.

It looks like that I'm not the only one with the problem. I think the lightning connector itself is prone to corrosion. So I think that it is a design flaw, and Apple should cover the repair cost. Now I can only wait.

  • Genuine Apple lightning charger not working with my iPhone 5S. a notification comes up that's says 'this cable is not a genuine Apple product and may not work reliably' and although the charging symbol comes up, it does not charge

genuine Apple lightning charger not working with my iPhone 5S. a notification comes up that's says 'this cable is not a genuine Apple product and may not work reliably' and although the charging symbol comes up, it does not charge - went to Apple in Milton keynes to get a replacement charger this weekend that does not work as well!

Well, if this problems is so old I think it is strange that Apple hasen't fixed the bug long time ago, and certainly after the release of iOS 8.1.
Well, thank you very much for your answer, Lawrence Finch. I think the best thing to do is to send the phone to repair, if there is no solution to fix this by my self. I will anyway call the Apple support tomorrow, but I don't think they will illuminate me...

  • TS2634 why will my charging cable not work on my ipad?

Why will my charging cable not work on my ipad?

Try giving your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. WHen you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot then try again.
Try unplugging/replugging the cable. I can't tell if you have a lightning or older 30 pin cable, but if you have the 30 pin one it can look like it's in but not be making a total connection.
Look in the port, do you see any dust or lint? THat can mess with the connection.
Are you trying to charge via USB or plugged into the wall? It's best charged plugged into the wall with its supplied power block.

  • Lightning USB Cable not working

My lightning USB cable stopped working today. I tried to plug it in and it didn't charge my phone so I unplugged it and saw that one of the sides of the iPhone hookup looks kind of burned abs chipped off. I would post a picture but I'm not sure how.
I just bought this iPhone 5 2 weeks ago, so I'm a little disappointed. Do you think apple will supply me with a new one?

I suspect that they will, but the only way to find out for sure is to contact them. Use the correct phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the phone and cable in to an Apple retail store or service provider.
Note that the Apple accessories for the iPhone fall under the same warranty as the phone itself.
    Best of luck.

  • Lightning cable only works thru charger not computer

My problem is that the cable only works thrugh the wall charger
I cannot connect via computer or stereo. This only happened last week
the iphone is only a month old and the cable has been(in my eyes)well looked after
I'm guessing I need a new cable. the conectors look in good condition and I can't see any "gunk" in the phone socket
    Any further insights greatly appreciated

Are you getting a message on your device saying that the cable isn't certified?  I have an iFrogz cable for my iPhone 6+ that suddenly last week stopped working.  It is Apple-Certified at least when I purchased it.  I have contacted iFrogz asking them what changed but I am waiting to hear from them.  So it might be a similar situation that I am experiencing.  My original cable works fine.

  • Why did my hdmi lightning cable stop working?

Was able to watch on the tv screen using mirroring with my new ipad and apples hdmi lightning cable.
Suddenly today no mirroring occurs. The screen goes blank, then "no signal".
When i try with my husbands ipad mini, no problem, his still works, so its not the cable...
I do not want to stand in line for an hour and then have some 'genius' reset my ipad and tell me to go home and try again.
    Any ideas?

  • 5 of my lightning cables stopped working; they are after market cables

All of a sudden I get an error message that my cable is not certified amnd may not work reliably with this phone. I have 5 cables that do not work and 2 that do. I have been using these cables for a while with no problem.  Is this an Apple issue? Did they just decide to do this? If so, I am no longer an Apple customer.

Lightning cables need a chip in them to make them work properly.  If these are not made properly, they could damage your iPhone.  FOr this reason, Apple lienses the making of those cables, and if they detect an unlicensed  cable, they feel it's better to not allow it to be used than to allow it to damage your expensive hardware.  I appreiate that they are protecting my iPhone from some company who doesn't care if it gets damaged by their crappy cable.
I like an expression I saw recently "If your head is only worth $10, tehn wear a $10 helmet when you ride your motorcycle."  My iPhone is worth more than a $1.99 cheap knock-off cable to me, so I will use the proper cable to charge it, as I have done since I got it on Sept 21, 2012.

  • Power Mac G4 AGP (Sawtooth) - PSU cable not working, all the time

    Power Mac G4 Friends
P1 is connected to the motherboard and working.
P2 and P3 are connected to hard drives and working.
P4 is connected to a hard drive and working.
P6 is connected to optical and Zip drives and working.
    P5 may not be working.
It was recently that I observed the length of P5. P5 is actually long enough to power an AGP 2x, 4x, ATI or GeForce, 12.v power supply connection required, graphics card.
Formally, I used P5 to power the hard drive in the front drive bay. For years no problem occurred. Suddenly, on occasion, the hard drive would not boot. When I connected the hard drive to P4, the problem was solved.
    Questions
Since P5's length extends to the AGP slot, should P5 only be used for an AGP, power supply required, graphics card?
Is it possible for one PSU cable to not work?
    Is the P5 cable broken?
Can the P5 cable be replaced?
    Thank you

Hello, no idea if this helps, but...
You can convert an ATX PSU for use on a G4...

Select Control Panel from the Menu.
Select Device Manager from the list of control panel items.
Note: If you do not see the screen with the Device Manager option, click the View by drop-down menu and select Small icons.
Microsoft Windows XP and 2000 users
To open Device manager on your computer
On the desktop, right-click on My Computer and click Properties.
In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
In the Hardware, tab click the Device Manager button.
To reinstall the drivers for your device
Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus controllers (USB section) of the Device Manager window.

  • Charging cable  not working

My charging cable for my Macbook Pro is not working. I am working in Ethiopia for the next 2 months and really need to use my laptop. Is there anything I can do from here to fix it please? Or anywhere I can get a new cable? Many thanks, Karen

    First try a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Inspect the connection where the power adapter connects to the MBP.  They should be clean and not discolored.
The pins on the power adapter are spring loaded.  Make certain that they move freely

  • Genuine Apple Lightning Cable not recognized...

I'm using an iPad mini, running iOS 7.0.6, and plugged directly into AC power with an Apple 2 meter charging cable, purchased @ the Apple Store. I am being driven crazy by the intermittent beeping of the iPad mini until it finally tells me the accessory is not supported.  Fortunately, the charging continues, but all this beeping and booping and the failure of the iPad to recognize a legitimate accessory is nutso. I have cleaned the connector more than once, yet the problem continues. Sometimes if I turn the connector around it will stop, other times not.
As I never used any Apple device prior to the release of iOS 7, I can't comment on timing, but I have my suspicions that this is a software issue.

Yes, I should have mentioned that; the Apple 2m lightning cable is plugged into the Apple square charger that came with the iPad mini. That is plugged directly into AC power.
I updated iOS to 7.1 this week; the problem continues.
