Lightning cable only works thru charger not computer

My problem is that the cable only works thrugh the wall charger
I cannot connect via computer or stereo. This only happened last week
the iphone is only a month old and the cable has been(in my eyes)well looked after
I'm guessing I need a new cable. the conectors look in good condition and I can't see any "gunk" in the phone socket
Any further insights greatly appreciated

Are you getting a message on your device saying that the cable isn't certified?  I have an iFrogz cable for my iPhone 6+ that suddenly last week stopped working.  It is Apple-Certified at least when I purchased it.  I have contacted iFrogz asking them what changed but I am waiting to hear from them.  So it might be a similar situation that I am experiencing.  My original cable works fine.

  • Lightning Connector Only Works One Way

I have two lightning connector cables, and the new 30 pin to lightning adapter, all direct from Apple.
I've found that if I plug them in one way, my iPhone won't charge, but, if I plug it in the other way, they work.
It'sprobably a software issue, as the pins aren't being reassigned. I found that if I have the plug in, and it's not working, I can restart my iPhone 5, and the cable will begin working for this orientation, but not the other way.
I've seen others mentioning this issue, but haven't found a solution yet. I've tried a hard and soft reset so far, and all that does is set the pins to work for one direction on the cable, not both.

I recently tried resetting all my settings. This did not work either.
The cable may appear to be charging, but no juice is flowing. If I reverse the cable, however, it starts charging.
I can't be the only one with this issue, as it appears to be firmware related. There's a chance it's hardware related, but my iPhone was working fine for weeks, with all cables. Now, all my "reversible" lightning cables only work one way.

  • Playbook only works with charger or USB cable despite batter showing 100% charge

After 2 years of faithful service, playbook only works with charger or USB cable despite batter showing 100% charge. As soon as the cable/charger is unplugged, it just switches off. When cable is plugged in again, and start button pressed, it reboots. I have reinstalled sftwer from scrathc via Desktop Manager, but the problem persists. I saw this problem raised in the fora several times, but never any explanation why it happens. Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

A high resistance between battery lead and motherboard would allow trickle charge but not power discharge.
If you want to risk it, prise off the back of the playbook using an old credit card, locate the two screws holding on the battery lead, remove, clean up, then replace.  replace back carefully as the antennae connectors are pressure pads.

Is it because the new itunes looks different.

Then it should work just the same as on your old computer.

  • Does it matter if the lightning cable is plugged in but not connected to an electrical outlet? Will this drain the ipad battery?

Does it matter if the lightning cable is plugged in but not connected to an electrical outlet? Will this drain the ipad battery? We use an ipad cart at school, and some of the teachers will connect all the ipads up to the cart, but then neglect to power up the cart. The laptop with the cart has already had the battery wrecked because of this (within a two month period), and I am concerned the ipads may have an issue if this continues to happen. I need some reassurance before I make the other teachers paranoid!

ok this one is kind in the gray area for me. I say if it is plugged in to a power up cart but not plugged in to a outlet, then all is is doing is not charing, and of course lossing a charge over time in standby, not really causing any issues. User guide and apple sites say it will drain the battery life.
Important: The iPad battery may drain instead of charge if iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, to a USB hub, or to the USB port on a keyboard.
however “Battery life” means the time your iPad will run before it must be recharged.
so I think it will be ok, as long as you charge it as usaul it should be fine.
just use these links for and understanding for batteries and the ipad, of course the user guide.

  • My 2 month old nano only works while charging, i've tried resetting it and still the same.

my 2 month old nano only works while charging, i've tried resetting it and still the same.

You are still under warranty.  Either call iPod tech support - U.S. iPod and Mac technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) or take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Computer only working with charger?

My roommate spilt water on my computer which got onto my charger. At first it wouldn't do anything, now however, i can use my computer with my charger - but only with my charger- as soon as it's unplugged the computer turns off. What could be the problem? how can it be fixed? and what as an estimation of cost?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello,
You need to take the Mac in for service. We can't estimate the cost of such repairs here on the forums. Try and Apple store or an Apple reseller. If the charger was damaged in anyway from moisture, and you use it with your Mac, you could damage the disk, the logic board... and that would be more $$$$... have it looked at.

  • 5 of my lightning cables stopped working; they are after market cables

All of a sudden I get an error message that my cable is not certified amnd may not work reliably with this phone. I have 5 cables that do not work and 2 that do. I have been using these cables for a while with no problem.  Is this an Apple issue? Did they just decide to do this? If so, I am no longer an Apple customer.

Lightning cables need a chip in them to make them work properly.  If these are not made properly, they could damage your iPhone.  FOr this reason, Apple lienses the making of those cables, and if they detect an unlicensed  cable, they feel it's better to not allow it to be used than to allow it to damage your expensive hardware.  I appreiate that they are protecting my iPhone from some company who doesn't care if it gets damaged by their crappy cable.
I like an expression I saw recently "If your head is only worth $10, tehn wear a $10 helmet when you ride your motorcycle."  My iPhone is worth more than a $1.99 cheap knock-off cable to me, so I will use the proper cable to charge it, as I have done since I got it on Sept 21, 2012.

If you can’t charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Find out what to do if you plug in your iOS device and it doesn’t charge, or it displays an alert.
Make sure you’re using Apple-certified accessories and the right power source.
If your battery is really low, you might see a black screen for a few minutes even after you plug it in. Let it charge for at least 10 minutes (20 minutes for iPad). If it still doesn’t charge, follow the steps below. If the battery doesn’t charge
If the battery doesn’t charge, unplug your device and try these steps:
Look at the connector at the bottom of your device and make sure it’s free of debris.
If you're using a USB power adapter, make sure it's plugged in all the way and the power outlet is working. If you're connecting to a computer, make sure it's on and can charge your device. To charge an iPad, you might need to use a USB power adapter and plug into a power outlet.
Try a different USB cable, USB power adapter, or USB port.
If everything seems to be working, reconnect your device and wait for 30 minutes.
If your device still doesn’t charge, try to restart it while it's connected to power. If you can't restart, reset your device.
    If you see an alert

  • Why did my hdmi lightning cable stop working?

Was able to watch on the tv screen using mirroring with my new ipad and apples hdmi lightning cable.
Suddenly today no mirroring occurs. The screen goes blank, then "no signal".
When i try with my husbands ipad mini, no problem, his still works, so its not the cable...
I do not want to stand in line for an hour and then have some 'genius' reset my ipad and tell me to go home and try again.
    Any ideas?

  • Palm tx only works with charger plugged in

My palm tx only works when plugged into ac charger.  Symptoms began after I left device unused for about 2 weeks.  When plugged in I get the battery charging symbol.  The battery icon says 100%.  As soon as I unplug charger, the device dies.  I have left plugged in for 2.5 hrs and still won't work when I unplug. I have tried hard reset with no improvement.
    Do I need new battery?
    thanks

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

One last ditch effort - plug in to the charger, and press the Reset button.  Let the TX go through a soft reset and let it charge for a few hours.
If still no joy, then yes it sounds like your battery has reached the end of its useful life.
Many places online will repair it for you, or let you purchase a battery and DIY.  Check out directfix.com for a repair video on the TX.

  • TC only Works if I "wake" computer; Is TC supposed to maintain itself?

My time capsule is working effortlessly (finally)...BUT only if I wake my computer. I guess I expected backups to occur hourly consistently but that's not happening. They only occur if I wake my IMAC. Any ideas?
My other question: I would have expected in time machine to see the hourly backups for the current day, 1 backup for each of the prior through the week and then once a month. I can still see each back up for all of the inconsistent "hourly" backups that I woke my iMAC. ie - is TC supposed to do some sort of maintenance to "clean up" history (delete yesterday's hourly backups and only save one version)?

Also, when your Mac is asleep, no data has changed so there is no need to back up.
    Here's an idea:
if you want to backup your Mac right before it goes to sleep (say at the end of your work/play day) you could first set Energy Saver to automatically sleep the machine after x minutes of inactivity. When you are ready to stop using the computer, execute a manual TM backup. TC then mounts, and backs up your machine while you're away. After TC is done and after the allotted x amount of minutes, your computer will go to sleep.
That way, you have a snapshot of your mac right before it goes to zzz...

  • IPod only works while plugged into computer!

Help! My 2Gb iPod nano went through the washing machine, and after a few days of drying out, it only works while plugged into the computer. As soon as I take it out, the screen goes blank. I can access all my music, podcasts and photos while it's plugged in. I have tried the 5 Rs to no avail. Anybody have any ideas?

I also sent my nano through the wash and I found that if you get an ac adapter and plug it in for a few hours you will have battery life. This made me very happy however I have noticed that I can not turn the ipod off unless the hold button is on. Battery life is also not as long but long enough for me. Hope this helps
