Lightning camera connection kit causing crashes (iPad mini)

I ordered an lighting camera connection kit (with a usb input) from amazon, new.

It came in an appple box witth all the manuals and looked legitimate. However, as soon as I plug it into my ipad mini (with or without a device attached) it immeadly reboots. I was wondering if this was covered by warrenty or not and if anyone else has had this issue.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem with either the iPad or CCK. Bring both. It is covered by warranty unless you abused the devices.

Have you tried a reset by holding the power and home buttons for ten seconds until the apple appears?
Since it's multiple different import devices not working with the CCK, it appears to be on the iPad side...
If the reset doesn't help, try a restore from within iTunes on the computer.

You can try the 30 pin to lightning adapter but I'm not sure if that'll work. So if you get it to experiment, make sure you can return it. Apple does sell a SD to lightning adapter for the newer devices. So that should be a sure bet. The main downside is that your 30 pin camera kit came with both USB and SD for 29 and now the USB adapter is 19 and the SD adapter 29, so more expensive.
You may want to look into third party adapters, but make sure you use a reputable manufacturer (ie not a cheap no-name off amazon) because iOS7 brought with it software that looks for a signed chip in the adapter. And a chip is 'signed' when a company gets apple's permission to make accessories. I would suggest sticking with companies like Belkin, Kensington and Targus. They seem to be of a better reputation when making things and would have a signed chip.

Is the kit fully inserted, and which part of the kit are you using, the SD reader or the cable to camera ? If the SD reader, then how did the photos get on the card - if you copied them on from your computer then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them.
If you are connecting direct to the camera then does your camera have a menu setting for 'Photo Transfer Protocol' (PTP) and/or Mass Storage Device ?

Camera Connection Kit for iPad 2?

Can anyone tell me when or if there will be a camera connection kit for the iPad 2? The kits that were release for the iPad do not fit properly in the iPad 2. There is a large gap and I am worried it will eventually cause damage to the port. I could not find much online so I thought I would ask here. Thanks

There is only one connection kit, and do not seem to be any plans for adding an additional kit. Just like the 30 pin sync connector, the connection seems limited, but was never designed to leave the connector in place, especially while carting the device around. I use my original camera kit with my iPad 2, without issues.

Are you using an adapter with the card ? You can. It's just not the easiest thing in the world to do.
MP4 files play just fine. Handbrake is one very good video converter app.
Make and have the file on your computer.
Using the explorer on your computer, You make a folder on the SD card named DCIM
You give the movie a 8 character name TRANSFOR.MP4 for example - has to be exactly 8 characters + extension
You put that file into the DCIM folder using your computer
Eject the card from your computer.
You attach that card via the camera connection kit, to your iPad
The photo app should pop up and you'll see either a poster frame or a black box representing your video
You go through the import process and move that file to your iPad
You finish the process, taking care not to delete the file off the card (the CCK always gives you the option of deleting the photos or movies you just imported)
You open the photos app and tap on the movie, it'll open the video app and play the movie
You finish the movie then have to delete it off your iPad.
You will not see file names, so if you have multiple movies on a card you likely can't tell one from the other.
And you have to have room to import the file, you cannot watch it off the card.
So it works, but isn't exactly seamless and easy, largely cause the preferred method is that you simply purchase and download the same movies from iTunes

I have turned the camera on, but it seems that the camera just want to recharge its battery through the iPad as the iPad states that the devices draws too much power?? One thing to check is the format that the camera is saving pics to the card in. Many are selectable and, in most cases, if PTP is one of the options then you need to have that one selected for the files to be visible to iOS and the CCK (connection kit).
Another thing which sometimes comes up, especially with older cameras and therefore probably not with yours, is the filenaming conventions used by the camera. iOS is quite strict about what it expects to see and if files are being stored with unsupported name formats then they simply won't be seen at all.

I've imported some photos from a memory card, via Camera Connection Kit, in my iPad 2.
I can see my photos in Image system app... OK... but I'm not able to export photos to my PC, via iTunes. After a sync, I can't find them neiter in iTunes "Apps" tab nor in iTunes images folder on my PC.

Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit - Sync back to PC

Hi,
I was under the impression that after you have imported photos to the iPad using the CCK, that the next Sync would copy the new photos to your library.
Is this true? My iTunes does not do this so perhaps I am mistaken.
My alternative method is to use Picassa to import them from my iPad direct.

mine did today...today i loaded a heap of photos using my cam connection kit to my ipad,. then iopend 'iphoto' on my imac and it loaded allp ics up with a collum on the left sayin ipad 3G as itunes shows up when you hook it up,. it then said import all? i imported then it asked if i wanted to delete the pics off my ipad or mem card,..
then tried with my iphone 4 and it did the same thing,. opened imovie and did the same with that,..didnt have to do a thing,....
BTW what comp are you using,. mac or pc ? etc etc

Not able to upload .jpgs on a SD card to Ipad 3 with camera connection kit. What am I doing wrong?

I downloaded .jpgs only from a video recorder on to a SD card. Using the camera connection kit, the Ipad 3 is doesn't recognize any files in either Photos or iPhoto. Currently do not have iTunes available to sync photos. What do I need to do to get the iPad to recognize the jpegs on my SD card?

Solved my problem. Created a folder named: "DCIM" on the SD card. Moved all the .jpg files to this folder. Reconnected to the ipad with the camera connection kit, upload to ipad started outomatically in Photos app.

Camera Connection Kit Weirdness

When I plug my Camera Connection Kit into my iPad 1, with nothing in it or connected to it, I get the error message "Cannot Use Device. The connected USB device requires too much power."
Again, this is with no SD Card inserted, or USB connection used. Just the white Kit dongle, plugged into the device, leads to that error message.
It USED to work.
This error message does not occur when the switch on the back is on the USB side, only when it's on the "SD" side. But then again, I want to use it with SD cards, so that's the only side that matters.
Any ideas?

same issue myself. Had a cheap usb and sd card connector kit off eBay and it worked fine. Since updating to iOS 7.1.2, it didn't work. Took a trip to the apple store today and bought a genuine lightning apple sd card reader. Tried it in the apple store on one of their iPads, with my sd card and had the same issue.
upon connecting and inserting sd card (sandisk 32gb extreme) brings up the import screen, you see some blank tiles, then after about 40 seconds, the import screen disappears. Discussed it with apple store rep and he offered to replace the cable, I did, same issue. It HAS to be a firmware issue, as it was working fine prior to the update On the cheaper, non genuine attachment.
ive rebooted, refreshed, even started iPhoto first, still have same issue. Why oh why do Apple mess with stuff when it works fine in the first place?
