Lightning effect in Motion 2.0

I have search far and near and cannot figure out how to create a lightning / electrical arcing effect in Motion 2. There are two clips (.MOV) of lightning in Motion but this is not what I need. I can mimmick this effect Photoshop, but those are all still shots. You lose the fluidity of a true arcing effect.
Is there a plug in similar to After Effects available for Motion? Has anyone else successfully created this effect in Motion? Any direction someone can point me would be appreciated.
Thanks

I tried a line and displacement map, but couldn't get any movement on it unless I cranked up the vertical scale and even then, it didn't warp the way I expected it. I'm not sure why unless it has something to do with the way Motion builds the line.
So messing around, here's something I found that seems to work.
I created a line and added a bloom to it. Then I added the fisheye filter to the layer the line is in. For more realism, 2 or more looks better. I position them and then add a wriggle behavior to the center parameter by right-clicking it and choosing wriggle. If I want the warp to look smoother, I add an average behavior on top of the wriggle.

  • I am new to After Effects and Motion 5 and I have a question

    Hello there,
I am currently working on a personal side project for a family member. She would like me to make a video with recorded audio and pictures from the 1920’s for my grandmother. I would like to give the parallax and 2.5D effect a try but as I never used After Effects or Motion before I am a little overwhelmed.
I have about 80 images to animate. Right now I am in the ‘Photoshop phase’. I am going through each image and separating the foreground, mid-ground, and background, into separate layers and saving the .psd files to eventually bring into Motion 5 (or After Effects) and animate.
    After seeing this video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVrYyX3bHI8
I really wanted to animate the images I had in a similar fashion. I really loved how they seemed to move and know that I can accomplish this appearance with the pin tool in After Effects. After seeing this video however, I continued looking into the 2.5d effect and found this movie for Motion 5:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmxlm2nkVLA
I bought Motion 5 because I thought the interface seemed more user friendly to newcomers (like myself), the effects were similar, and because I couldn’t afford to pay for After Effects every month.
But now I am kicking myself. Motion 5 is lovely and I do like the camera effects but I don’t think I can accomplish the ‘puppet’ effect with it like I can in After Effects. Does anyone know if it is possible? Is there a plugin for Motion 5? Can I send my .psd files into Motion 5, set up the timeline and cameras, save it, and then move it into After Effects and then use the pin tool to manipulate the images and layers?
I have read that some say it is hard to move Motion files into After Effects? If this is the case, could I save the Motion file, open it in Adobe Premiere, and THEN open it in After Effects and play around with it?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much in advanced.

2.5D is fairly easy to do in Motion... that's the good news. The bad news is: if you don't know what you need to do to accomplish it, it's practically impossible to do easily or well.
The first problem to overcome is perspective, and the other problem is parallax.
These two tutorials (by Mark Spencer) will give you all the information you need dealing with moving Photoshop Layers in Z-space. Even though the point of the tutorials is a "fly through", the same information applies to creating 2.5D. Just animate the camera laterally (sweep) instead of dolly.

  • Cool effect..how can i create this effect on Motion 3?

    that's great.
Someone please tell me how can i create this effect on motion 3?

    thanks

Use the bezier tool to create your shapes, give the shapes an Airbrush outline. Then apply a Write On behavior to each shape. Position the shapes in the timeline so they appear sequentially. To achieve the zooming out effect, you can either scale the whole group, or convert the group to 3D and use the camera to zoom out.

  • Reflection White effect in Motion 2?

Very new to Motion 2, I still have a greatt deal to learn. But I was wonder if there's a way to create the refection effects seen in iMovie HD, version iLife 6? I really like that effecta nd would like to be able to create similar effects in Motion. Can this be done? If so, can someone give be a step-by-step or point me in the general direction? Thank you!
    Mark

Thank you Patrick, but specifically, I'm trying to figure out how I can create the 3D motion as created by the iMovie 6 "Reflection White (or black) theme. I can see, somewhat, how to create a reflection and have that reflection be 3D and move, What I can't figure out is how to create the perspective of the image, or movie, changing with the movement—e.g., appearing as if to slide along a path and shrink or grow as it moves along the X, Y and Z planes. As with the "Reflection" themes, pictures and movies and move and swing in 3D space. I'm trying to simulate that type of motion.
    Thank you so much.

  • Locked lightning effects?

Why can't I get to use lightning effects, even after I turn layer into a smart object? I have been able to try it earlier, but not anymore.
I already tryed to duplicate layer, flatten image, open a new file in JPEG-format, re-boot ps-c6 and even computer, but nothing seems to work.

Is it possible that your "Use Graphics Processor" setting has become disabled because of an error or failure?
    Look in Preferences - Performance.
You might need a display driver upddate.

  • How to hold the Lightning effect still?

Basically, the Lightning effect keeps "wriggling" from side to side - not the fixed end and start points, but the actual middle part. Is there any way to stop it moving to create a "glowing stick" ? (Premiere 11)

    NYinperth
I have something for you to try in order to create your "still" glowing stick. It is not a freeze frame as I was suggesting before. Something else.
    1. Open Premiere Elements 11 and go to Text Menu/New Text/Default Text to bring up the Titler.
    2. The Titler has 4 sections: Text, Style, Animation, and Shapes.
In the Text section, click on the Selection Tool to use for selecting the Add Text on screen. Hit Delete on the keyboard to get rid of Add Text.
    3. Go the Shape section of the Titler. Use the Rectangle Tool to draw out a rod. Then go to Style section.
Find the Style named Bell Gothic Ice 26 and double click that Style. The rod that is selected on the screen should look like
In the Titler, you can experiment with different Styles applied to the Shape if you want. To close out of the Titler, click on those two tiny triangles pointing right at the top right of the Adjustment Palette. If you want to re-edit the stick after you close the Titler, just double click the Title on the Expert workspace Timeline where you are working.
That is just a rough starting point.
Please let us know how that goes. You might even explore applying the Lightning Effect to a title  created in the Titler? Then freeze frame, then ChromaKey to get replace the black color that you are seeing with transparency so that that your image below shows.
Or, you just might want to invest your time in some Photoshop tutorials on glowing rods that are all over the Internet.
    ATR
Add On...Here is an example of Lightning captured via the Titler as I roughly mentioned.

I'm using iM 11. How do i get lightning effects?

you might also insert a very bright image and set the clip length of a tiny fraction of a second. Unfortunately, the designers don't seem to think anyone wants to use many video effects.

  • Lightning Effects in Illustrator ...

Well, my main objective is to wrap complex lightning around some text, but I am conflicted about how to go about doing it;  I am new to adobe CS5, so please tolerate my ignorance. I thought about taking a vector graphic of lightning and making it into a brush, but I have no clue where to obtain a free vector file of lightning (since many such files must be paid for).  I also thought about using the pen tool to draw some complex patterns in, but then I ran into a wall when it came time to actually make it realistic.  My main problem with that was that in order to apply some effects, the segments had to be rasterized, which almost completely ruins the graphic even at 300 pixels/inch.  Also, is there a way to convert a Bitmap image into a vector one?  Could anyone point me in the right direction of how to get a realistic vector lightning effect around my text without spending money to get a file?  Thank you for your time.

You were on the right track drawing it yourself. Don't look for a cheezy instant pre-packaged effect for everything. You loose all originality with clipart and such.
The image below is from a thread a couple years ago about drawing clouds; the lightning bolt was just added as an accent.
It's just an ArtBrush consisting of a right-pointing triangle (draw a square, rotate it 45 degrees, remove one anchorpoint) to make a tapered Brush. Draw some lines, apply the Brush, set stroke weights to very thin. Vary the opacity on some of the paths. Perhaps a little bit of a blur Effect.
Don't overdo it. Keep your artwork simple and elegant.
No need for 300 PPI. A Raster Effects Setting PPI equal to your target halftone ruling is fine for such things.

  • Create an advanced lightning effect and then export to transparent PNG sequence

    Hi,
I am new to AE, so please be kind
I need to generate a lightning effect and then export the frames to several PNG images.
I figured out how to do the lightning and how to export transparent PNGs, but I can't get rid of the lightning solid background (which is balck in my case).
    Do you have any advice?

Toggle the transparency grid in your comp to make sure that you are creating an alpha channel.
When you render set to the output module to RGB + Alpha and Millions of Colors + and set Color to Straight.
