Lightning vga problem?

HI, I'm trying to use the official Apple lightning to vga adaptor in my iPhone 5, however whenever I plug it in I get a message saying that firmware download is in progress and I will be unable to use the accessory until complete. But the process never seems to complete and the adaptor doesn't worK. Any ideas? Thank you

I Normally hate remarks like the one I'm about to make, but it is actually apple saying "just buy the latest ipad!"
I had the exact same problem yesterday. I found out I couldn't use a projector anymore, when it worked just fine last week.

  • Lightning VGA Adapter with Retina iPad

I am having trouble getting a Lightning VGA Adapter working with an iOS 7 Retina iPad, although the same adapter/cable/display combo works perfectly with an iPhone 5.   When I attach the cable the display indicates a 1024x768 60 Hz input, but it stays blank.  The iPad then becomes unusably slow - each interaction taking several seconds.  When the adapter is removed, it goes back to normal.  Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?

I have fixed this myself.   The iPad was still on iOS 7.0, and the problem went away after updating to 7.02.  I guess there are some undocumented bug fixes in this release!

  • No video support with iPad lightning-VGA adapter (iOS 8.3)

Just subscribed to HBO NOW and bought a lightning-to-VGA adapter ($55!) to watch HBO on my computer monitor (no HDMI, only VGA) from my iPad mini. Worked fine on iOS 8.2, but then when upgraded to 8.3 I could no longer get video support. Still have iOS 8.2 on my iPod Touch, and when that device is connected to my computer monitor, I can watch HBO (and Netflix). So obviously 8.3 no longer supports video with a lightning-to-VGA adapter. Is Apple aware of this? Will there be a fix soon?

I had the same problem with an iPad Air 1 once I upgraded to ios 8.3. Following several suggestions online, I did the following:
    1. Via iTunes Store app, I logged out.
    2. Settings, General, Reset (all the way at the bottom), Reset all Settings (this doesn't remove any data/apps/etc, it just resets all the iPad settings.
    3. Did a Hard Reboot (hold down power and main button until iPad shuts off).
Once I turned it back on, now I could use the iPad via lightning adapter to watch video on a TV.

  • Mini DVI to VGA problem

    Hello,
I just recently bought the mini DVI to VGA adaptor for my new MacBook because I wanted to use my laptop as a dvd player and plug it into the TV in my room. The TV is a Samsung LCD ln S1951W, when I plug it in the computer detects the display but the TV still flashes the no signal thingie. I've tried it with a proyector and it works fine. It's not the vga-vga cable because it works fine when i connect my iBook. Could anyone help me fix this problem please?

If you are just using it for that specific screen (just for the moment use a workaround). I have the same screen.
Download SwitchResX and make the following setup under "Custom" 1360x 768 at 60Hz. Restart for the settings to be available. It should solve the flashing problem for this specific screen.
If you don´t want to pay for SwitchResX, just check that the new resolution settings are available in the normal mac display options (which they should) and unistall it... the settings will be stored and you can use them indefinitely.
Wait, just re-read your post, you are not getting any signal at all? Then I have no clue if this will solve it. Try it anyways.
    Cheers.

  • Mac Mini mid 2011 Mini Dvi to VGA problems

I have a mac mini mid 2011 and I have to connected to a display in work.  The display only has a VGA entrance, so i bought a mini dvi to vga adapter from my local mac store, but when i connected to the display everything looks odd, the whole display has an odd purple look, I have tried to use a different VGA cable but keep having the same problem, I even tried a different display with the same results, anybody knows why this happens and how to fix it?

    Your welcome!
On your end before returning the Adapter,
try > Resetting the System Management Controller
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
and > About NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
then if that doesn't help, return the adapter and explain the problem to the Apple tech person at the store.

  • Mini DVI to external monitor (VGA) problem/firmware update does nothing

    Hi,
Four months ago I bought a new white 13-inch Macbook (2006 model I believe) along with a handy mini-DVI - VGA adapter. I used a Hanns-G HU196D external monitor which worked fine for a couple of months but then stopped, and had the same problem with a (much cheaper) 'LiteView' monitor. I find it bizarre how they work absolutely fine and then stop, with no damage to the adapter, cable or ports. I've since bought a new adapter and cables + trying out a different monitor and still the same problem...
I've installed a firmware update that describes the exact symptoms, but it's done nothing. Can anyone help me resolve my issue?? It's still under warranty so is it an unusual problem that'll need to be fixed by Apple?
    Thanks

Are you using the mini DVI to DVI followed by a DVI to VGA adapter? That may not work if the mini DVI to DVI adapter does not pass analog video. If that is the case, you need the mini DVI to VGA adapter:

  • Mini Displayport to VGA problem - not recognizing

    Hi all,
First, thanks for your patience as I am new to these forums and thanks for reading and hopefully helping.
We purchased an apple branded mini DP to VGA adapter about a week ago from an auth. reseller in Prague (US expats). We are using the adapter to watch video from our MacBook Pro on an Epson projector. Everything worked great for about a week and all of a sudden (truly, no software changes, updates, dropped adapters, etc. etc. etc.) it stopped working. By "it" I think I mean the mini DP adapter or the plug itself. The reason I think this is b/c the computer doesn't even recognize when the adapter is plugged in; previously, when plugging ONLY the adapter into the mini DP plug, the screen would flash blue, now - nothing.
I have reset PRAM and the SMC and still no change. I checked when I first purchased the adapter and found that the firmware was indeed up to date.
Any ideas? Hoping for insight before having to deal with the extraordinary language barrier.
    Thanks again.

  • Thunderbolt to VGA problems.

Folks, I just setup two Mac Pro computers (late 2013 cylindrical model) and am having problems on both with Thunderbolt to VGA adapters.  I get a line at the top of the screen that flickers at a constant rhythm of sorts and the desktop doesn't fill the screen.  In fact the dock is pushed a little down  beyond the edge of the screen.
I have two 24" monitors plugged into both computers.  There's no problem with anything plugged in via DVI or HDMI, but it does affect these two brand new out of the box Samsung and HP monitors connected via Thunderbolt to VGA adapters.
I found this link and firmware to try and remedy the problem, but when run it just said it couldn't find a supported MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter.
    Any ideas folks?

I suspect that the firmware is only applicable to one specific brand of adopter.
I have used Apple mini displayport to VGA adopter on my 2013 Mac Pro without problems for 1080p like your HP monitor.
I suspect a problem with the adopter. However, try resetting the SMC and PRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    About NVRAM and PRAM
otherwise try another brand adopter. I would try min displayport to either HDMI or DVI if you can get them and get the right cable

  • Lightning connector problem

I picked up my iPhone 5 yesterday and after getting it home and starting the long task of tranfering my thousands of songs onto the device, I noticed that there seems to a problem witht the Lightning connector. Most times when inserting the connector into the phone, there is no connection ie. no pluged in tone and unable to sync. I have found that by placing a slight downward pressure to the plug I can get it to start syncing, then after releasing the pressure it disconnects itself. I repeat, that this happens most, but not all of the time. Is anyone else noticing this or maybe I just need to try a new cable (which are not available in the HK apple store)
    Cheers
    Rhys

I have gone through about 3 lightning connector cables over the last year.  They initially work, but later they go bad.
They start having the same symptoms described above where the cable will sometimes charge if you reverse it or press down on the cable.  Over time, they just stop working.  When connected via USB to my computer, I started getting an error message indicating that the device was not working properly and the computer stopped recognizing the device as an iPhone.
Replacing the cable fixed the problem, but I'm wondering if there is a way to get the non-functional cables to work again or maintain them so they last longer.
One thing I noticed is that over time the center gold connection wire turns black in color, as if it was burnt as the phone was charging.  I tried using an eraser to get the black stuff off to no avail.  I will try a Q-tip with alcohol next.  Wish there was a documented quick fix or maintenance plan for keeping the cables functional.

    Hi again,
Have you tried updating to Win XP Service Pack 1 yet?
Else, you may want to try this weird method as some gave a shot and the problem's solved, but not to everyone...
Boot up using the the cards that work, next, shutdown com(do not un-install drivers), put in the Leadtek card, boot up and see if there's the original 16bit colors with 800 by 600 res screen while starting up windows, if it does, try installing the drivers for WinXP/2000 by manually selecting the location as XP has a problem in detecting XP's VGA drivers, restart and see if problem persists.
    All the Best... :D!!!

  • Lightning-VGA Adapter with IOS 6

I got an iPad for Christmas, and I ordered a VGA adapter to use with my school projecter. It worked fine the first few times, but after I upgraded to ios-6, it stopped working. It could be a coincidence, but I am wondering if there is some information out there about either problems with this combination or instructions for how to make it work. If not, could it be the adapter just suddenly failed?

It is possible that you're just having a coincidental failure of your adapter. These things do fail. I remember helping my son set up his MacBook Pro with an HDMI setup to a Hi Def TV. We were struggling for hours ready to throw each other out of his dorm room. Finally, I drove to a Big box place and bought a new HDMI cable. That fixed it.
Try to replace the VGA cable first. Then the VGA adapter. Then consider the full reset, since that requires you to restore from a backup (not horribly bad, but you will have to go through the whole process).
