Lightroom 1.1 hanging

Hi,
First of all: I see the same performance improvements in the filmstrip browsing as others reported.
But loading a picture is very slow.
What i did:
- Upgrade to LR 1.1
- CPU started 100%, i assumed it was doing things and i let it run for 8 hours. Performance was then ok but each picture i open said loading for approx 1 minute (both small jpeg or 8 mb raw files)
- I then deleted ALL preview thumbnails (file level), used the menu to discard all previews, set it back to never discard previews, selected ALL pictures, and set it to Render standard sized previews and render 1:1 previews. (i did this on LR 1.0 also in the beginning, read on somewhere) and let it run the whole day while off to work.
- I then optimized the database
- rebooted
It's still very slow, every picture i open sais loading, i wait till it;s loaded, when i go to the next pic and go back it again sais loading, and when the loading is finished the pic is blocked, like a highly compressed jpeg.
Also the preview at the top left is blocked. when the loading finished the preview is ok, but the pic itself remains blocked.
Anyone any suggestions? should i again delete all previews and run it again overnight? preview size corresponds to my screensize, in that the nr of pixels wide of my screen is the same as as the standard preview size, that is how it is supposed to be set right? Preview Quality is set to High.
Any recommendations on this?
PS: Dual core , 2 Gb ram , Windows XP

Steve,
I saw the same thing yesterday. Clean OS installation, clean Lightroom 1.1 installation, created a new library, set options to High quality, 2048 pixel previews (I have a 30" screen), automatic XMP export. Imported 28,000 images without generating standard sized previews (took about two hours). The first bug I noticed is that after import finished the CPU went to 0% and didn't change but all of the folders instead of showing the image count were still at '...'. Restarted LR, after a few minutes of processing the folders showed the image counts so my next step was to generate 1:1 previews. I was shocked to see that each preview took beetween 1 and 2 MINUTES to generate (regardless of whether the raw came from a 10D or a 1Ds Mark II). Only one core was used, virtually no HDD access. I tried opening random images and the image status would always go to 'Loading...' and no matter how long I waited wouldn't change. Some pictures, including those that supposedly had their 1:1 preview generated did the same thing. Some would show a low quality preview but some would be very, very blocky.
I tried creating a small library 100 images or so, same options, same workflow and didn't see the problem, each 1:1 preview would take 1 to 3 seconds to genarate and for images that didn't have previews 'Loading... ' would also go away after a second or two and the 1:1 preview would be displayed correctly.
Core 2 Duo, 4GB ECC RAM, Windows XP SP2, Raptor hdd, ATI 7.5 drivers...

I think Lightroom 1.1 needs to be taken off the market until they fix these problems.
I just got a new Dell 690 Workstation. On my old computer I had my copy of Lightroom 1.0 and no problems at all. Installed 1.1 on my new computer and things cascaded downhill from there. Lightroom crashed Photoshop CS3, I could not open Lightroom 1.1 upon restarting my computer, got a MW32 Runtime error. Some of my newly installed plug-ins crashed. I finally called Dell Tech support, they had me do a restore my computer, that didn't fix it. I finally started working backwords to find out what was causing me this hell. I had not installed the 1.1 update until a couple of days ago and had not used the program until this morning. I am on Windows XP Pro and noticed upon reading the update info that there were Windows Vista compatibility fixes attached to this update. I don't know, but I did a system restore reverse and got back to this morning, uninstalled Lightroom 1.1, reinstalled 1.0, and everything is fine. I pity the people that bought 1.1 as their first version. I have been reading other blogs about 1.1 problems and MAC is having them too. It is crashing hard drives etc.

  • Lightroom 5.3 Hanging on Video Exports

I've been able to succesffuly export videos in the past, but for some reason the progress bar is just hanging now on recent attempts to export video.  At time it starts, then stops mid-way.  After I cancel that task, and try to start it again, it just hangs with zero progress.   The files are not huge, mostly under 100MB.
Sometimes, I get an eror message of "An unknown error occurred. (1)"
    What I've tried:
    Restarting my machine several times
Deleted the preferences file and started fresh
Changed the export destination folder to my desktop, but got the same issue.
Tested exporting still images, which worked fine
Tested exporting using the video setting to export an unedited/uncompressed version of the file, which worked fine.
Changing the encoding setting from H.264 Medium to H.264 Max, but got the same issue.
Testing using both .MOV and .MP4 source files.
Manually reinstalled Lightroom app.  This helped process a couple files, but then went back to hanging.
Any suggestions?  Could the video encoder be corrupted somehow?  Is there a way to reset it?
    Thank you!

Pierre, try removing/deleting the preference file on the desktop: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroom-41.html

  • Bug: Lightroom 3.3 hang when importing video

On Windows, Lightroom 3.3 will hang when importing .AVI videos when the following is true:
    - Move or Copy (not Add)
    - Rename Files is selected
    - Filename pattern includes "exposure"
Changin to a pattern that only includes date and time will make the import succeed.

If it really failed in ntdll.dll it might be a system issue.  Make sure you disable all real-time anti-virus processes, and make sure your Windows system is up-to-date.
Otherwise, it will be hard to know what is going on. If it persists, open a support ticket with Adobe. Take a look in the event viewer to make sure you have all the details of the crash.

  • Lightroom 4.3 hanging whilst editing picture

I'm regularly getting the following error when using lightroom.  It can happen at anytime though usually in the develop module, Lightroom will start to hang and then i'll get the following windows error.  This has happened in in Lightroom 4.1, 4.2 and now with the 4.3RC.  I'm running windows 7 64 bit with a Core i5-2500k cpu running at 3.3GHz with 16gb or RAM.  I've tried uninstalling and starting afresh with LR and still getting the same issue.  I've tried using back up catalogues but still getting the same issue. I've had the image files on both internal and external hard drives to no change in behaviour.  There doesn't seem to be any pattern as to when it starts to hang I can be moving from one image to the next or moving a slider to adjust an image. Once i've closed LR i can reopen it straight away.  Sometimes it'll hang again immediately sometimes it'll not crash again for hours.  Any suggestions would be gratefully received as this is beginning to drive me mad!

This could be due to a corrupt Preference File. This file can go "funny" and is then responsible for all kinds of strange behavior of Lr. The remedy is replacing the Preference File.
BTW: Re-installing Lr ddoes not replace the Pref. File since it is designed to "survive" upgrades.

I am using Lightroom 5.5 on OS X.  I have created several small collections with about 180 images and I am trying to sync them via Lightroom mobile for later iPad access.  The first collection syncs properly, and then Lightroom syncing seems to hang.  The label in the upper right shows "Syncing 150 photos" but does not count down.  Opening and closing LR does not restart the process.

    PROBLEM STILL EXISTS...
I spoke to soon!  I tried adding a couple of more collections to sync.  Lightroom shows "Syncing 814" photos on upper left, but never apparently syncs any.  If I exit Lightroom it notifies me there are 814 images to sync.  When I reopen it seems to pick up and stall where it left off.  These new collections are not posting - this is the same problem as before.
I am pretty sure there is a serious bug in Lightroom here.  I encourage support to contact me.

  • Lightroom 2.5 hangs  on Vista 64, SP 2.

Just today Lightroom started hanging when ever I start it (windows reports it as unresponsive). It started during my weekly backup. I have tried deleting all preferences, uninstalling Lightroom, cleaning the registry and all files and removing the default catalog (after backups) and doing reinstall, but
I still can't start Lightroom. It starts to create the new preferences, but hangs before all are created. Anyone have any ideas?

Funny, now that you mention this I've noticed it, too.  It only happens the first time after a reboot.  I haven't put much thought into it because Windows 7 is being installed tomorrow.  My Vista installation is limpy along right now.  It works, but I've got a couple of apps that are bugging, my OS partition is nearly MAXED--
Probably the cause right there. Windows is very unhappy, and slows way
down, when you don't have enough free space on your boot drive. Keep
    at least 20% free ...

  • Lightroom 4.2 hangs on import

Hi Canon 5d3with a fast CF card.  I plug the camera into my Windows 7 laptop, fire up Lightroom 4.2, hit import, and all the new photos are tagged for import.  I press import and 4 or 5 photos import and Lightroom just hangs without importing any others.  The program shows as still responding in the Task Manager.  I close the program, detach and reattach the camera and get another 4 or 5 photos.  So if I have a bust day of shooting I have to go throgu this process many times to get of my photos imported.  Where do I start fixing this?
    thanks

Try copying the files to your hard drive from Windows Explorer. Then try importing them into Lightroom from the hard drive.
Do you get the same behavior in either case?

  • Lightroom 3.3 hangs in develop module.

    Hi,
I've been a long-time user of lightroom. I've recently replaced my graphics card (from 9500GT to 450GTS) and I'm starting to see quite frequent apphangs. I never saw these before the change in graphics card, but I did change it a couple of weeks ago and I only started seeing these crashes on 31/3. Having said that, I haven't used LR for a few weeks, so this still might be consistent. As far as I can tell, it only happens when LR is in the develop module and most of the time it's when LR is loading an image, the spinning disk freezes and the program hangs requiring a kill/reboot. I've also seen it today with a sharpen operation though. The hang is random - I can do exactly the same sequence of operations on the reboot and they work fine. The symptoms are very similar to the ones a lot of people reported a few years ago with LR 2 although thge suggested fix there (switch to develop->quit->restart) doesn't seem to improve stability.  I have the latest Nvidia drivers, and the machine is rock solid apart from this problem. I've tried LR 3.4 beta and that still exhibits the problem.
Anyone else seen this? Anyone know of any workarounds - it's pretty frustrating - it can be anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes before it happens?

    Hi Dan,
OK, so now I'm confused... I have removed the profiles for the monitors (one for each) and now use the manufacturer supplied one and haven't been able to get a crash since yesterday when I did the change. I'm not 100% confident the bug has gone, but it's passed my "it should happen by now" criteria. I'm wondering if the size of the .icc profiles could have an influence. When I calibrate my monitors, I always do a full calibration which stores the data as a full LUT iccview.de lists it as:
    Description Tag:
    Monitor_2_17-03-2011
    ICC-Tag: BToA1 (Colorimetric)
Calculation: LUT with 35937 grid points
    Header:

    Illuminant = 0, 1, 0 [Lab 100, 0, -0]
    Creator = 'LOGO'
Total volume of gamut is 885574 cubic colorspace units
The profile I have moved to and which seems to be working is a much smaller matrix profile. iccview.de says:
    Description Tag:
    DELL U2410 Color Profile,D6500
    ICC-Tag: XYZ Matrix
    Calculation: 3x3 Matrix
    Header:
    size = 6756 bytes

    Device Class = Display
    Color Space = RGB
    Conn. Space = XYZ
    Date, Time = 1 Mar 2010, 14:15:19

    Creator = 'DELL'
Total volume of gamut is 1401609 cubic colorspace units
So, assuming I get no more crashes, how do you want to debug this further? Do you want my icc profiles?

  • Lightroom 4.3 hangs when importing photos on OSX10.8.3 [was: Hello]

I installed and updated Lightroom 4.3 . I have a macbook pro with Software  OS X 10.8.3 . How long should importing 1 photo take? it seems to hang if I try to drag and drop 1 photo for a couple minutes and still doesnt load - is there a problem with LR 4.3 not working on this particular OS? Even if I try to import a folder it hangs and hangs until I cancel it. Several minutes.
    can anyone help?

    Victoria,
Thank you for your response. It gives me hope!
I really appreciate your offer to help. I have not worked through a forum before but I am assuming you are an Adobe employee, right? It would not seem fair to ask for this much help from someone who was not an Adobe employee.
In any case I should try your first suggestion of letting LR run. I know I have let it run about an hour and I may have tried over night. At what point would you give up on that approach?
In answer to your question of size I just went to check it out and found it is 145 MB. I have lots of photos marked with 1 star that I plan to delete so I would really like to get the rating functional.
I also noticed eight sets of files that say:
Temporary Import Data - #.db and
    Temporary Import Data - #.db-journal
I am wondering if they have anything to do with the problem?
This is a "Yes", I would like help.
    Thank you!

  • Lightroom 5.6 hangs after using for few minutes. MacBook pro, Mac os 10.9.5. Colour wheel (beach ball) appears continuously and machine is frozen.

I have been using Lightroom successfully on my MacBook pro for the past few weeks and been pleased how much better it is compared to iPhoto. Especially its speed.
This week a few minutes after starting Lightroom the spinning colour wheel appears and the machine is effectively hung. Nothing responds. Sometimes after many minutes the mouse pointer reappers but the colour wheel immediately reappears if the mouse is moved or any attempt is made to do anything. Only recourse is to force a power down and re-boot. But then the same thing happens.
System is MacBook Pro (15") from late 2008, 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 Duo with 2 GB RAM (Have tried 3 GB but this makes no difference.) Running Mac os 10.9.5 (Mavericks)
I have checked file permissions and file system with Disk Utility, it found no problems. Have optimised Lightrooms catalogue. All made no difference.
I completely stuck now so any help appreciated,

    Hi a,
It looks like you have a 15" mid 2010. You can try the SMC reset. If that doesn't work, see the free repair program for similar issues:

Trying Lightroom 3.2 but it will not open.  Immediate "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 64-bit has stopped working" and goes no further.  It will open virtualized and in sandbox ... whatever those are .... but while virtualized or in sandbox the files will not export, so obviously using those methods are not an answer.   But it intrigues me that the program will open in those modes.    Bottom line, I suppose, is why will the program not load at all when I try to open it normally?   I am using Windows 7 on a new computer.

I'm running Windows XP with patching up to date. At random intervals in the Develop module when I click on something, nothing happens. The next time I click on something I get an hour glass that never goes away. Hard disk activity starts and then subsides after a few minutes, but the window cannot be closed without rebooting.
