Lightroom 1.4 and Windows 7

Some background:
I have had Lightroom since 2007. My current version is 1.4. I do not have the CD/DVD of the software because I downloaded it from the Adobe website. A few weeks ago I upgraded from Vista 64 to Windows 7.
The issue:
Lightroom has always worked very well for me, including after I upgraded to Windows 7. Today I opened LR, but then it froze my system. After rebooting, I tried to open LR and got a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error message telling me the application requested Runtime to close the application in an unusual way.
My research:
I have found several older posts regarding similar issues, but although I can use a computer, I am not really great at understanding instructions that don't go step by step when it comes to fixing issues. I've read through many discussions about this issue here and am not proud to say I can barely make heads or tails of them.
If anyone has found a fix that works to this issue, please help me out by either replying here or linking me to some good instructions. I have a feeling I may need to uninstall and reinstall LR at some point. How can I do that if I don't have a CD or DVD? I still have my serial number (thank goodness) if that helps.
I know many of you here are very smart about software, but I am not. I really need help, please please please!
Jen

That worked, Wolf! And it was so easy! Thank you so much for your help. And I know 1.4 is ancient but it's worked well enough for me for the past three years.

  • No Print To File option in Photoshop Lightroom (Mac OS and Windows)

Q - Where do I find the "Print To File" option in Photoshop Lightroom (Mac OS and Windows)?
A - Photoshop Lightroom does not have the ability to print to file, but some print drivers can access the ability of the operating system to print to file. See
    TechNote for further information.

If you use print to file then you get a file that is meant to be send to a printer and that file has all kind of formatting code for that specific printer.
Opening such a file in Firefox or a text editor can only work if you use a text only printer to print the file to, so make sure that such a printer is installed and selected.

  • Lightroom 3.6 and Windows 8 hotkeys problem

    Dear Adobe Support, all,
I'm experiencing strange Lightroom 3.6 problems in Windows 8 PRO. The program itself seems to be stable, but unfortunately hotkeys are not working all the time. The worst thing is that they work and then something happens and suddenly they don't. It is really anoying and I tried to re-install the program without any success. I used the Windows 7 compatibility mode, but it did not help neither.
By the way, I have experienced the same problem earlier when runing Windows 8 CP, but I thought it was only a consumer preview that caused problems.
Please help. I don't really need Lightroom 4 and do not want to upgrade.
    Thanks!

    Solved!
I found out that I use many keyboards language layouts (4). So when I'm not in English layout the hotkeys stop working.
I did not had the same problem in Win7. But nevertheless, it is nice that everything works.
I hope it can help others who may experience the same issue.

  • Lightroom 4 and Windows XP

I'm VERYdisappointed that Lightroom 4 is incompatible with Windows XP.  I've been using Lightroom since version 2 and am quite fond of it.  If enough people complain, will Adobe respond with a solution other than "upgrade to Windows 7" or "buy a MAC" or just plain ole "sorry"?

Windows XP will not be supported.  It's 11 years old and Windows 8 is just around the corner.  They also dropped support for many Mac OSs and also for any 32 bit Macs.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder that contains your catalog it's probably located in Pictures\Lightroom. In that folder you will find another folder with the extension .lrdata. You need to delete that folder and its contents, then start Lightroom again. And new previews folder will be created automatically, and you should be able to start using Lightroom normally.

Lightroom 5 is supported in Windows 7 or newer. You will be able to use Lightroom Mobile on the iPad, but Lightroom Mobile is not yet supported on Android devices. That support is suspected to be added sometime in the future. Also, take note that you must have a creative cloud account in order to use Lightroom mobile.

  • Adobe Lightroom 4 for Mac and Windows, can I install the same license on both systems or only 1?

I just purchased 1 full license of Adobe Lightroom 4 and I can see there's an installer for Mac and Windows.
does it mean I can install on both systems or my license is only valid for 1?
    Thank you

Yes, LR is cross-platform and you can install it on both systems.

I'm not a "Cloud" member. I just upgraded to Lightroom 6 from Lightroom 5. All was working well yesterday. Today Lightroom will not open (Windows 7). I see the logo photo over my Lightroom platform but nothing loads and I see "Lightroom not responding." I checked the catalogs and see that lrcat-Journal and lrcat-Lock have been created every time I try to open. I have a backup from the first day I upgraded, but Lightroom doesn't want to access it. Should I reinstall?

Well, is the catalogue (and the folder it is in) writable? Have you actually checked the permissions? Lightroom won't be spitting out the error just to tick you off, and - computer wizard or not - this sounds very much like something you'll have to fix at the OS level: it's probably nothing to do with Lightroom or those funny lads at Adobe.
Some light reading for you, courtesy of the site search: https://forums.adobe.com/search.jspa?q=%22+not+writable+and+cannot+be+opened%22&place=%2Fp laces%2F1383621&depth=ALL
It would help to know your OS.

The Lightroom serial number is cross-platform. It works on both Windows and Mac.
Something else is going on here.

haw to active cs6 and lightroom 5 from PC windows to iMac please?

Licenses in all versions prior to CC are strictly platform specific, either Mac or Windows.
A windows serial number does not work on a Mac and vice-versa., neither do the binaries themselves, of course.`
Not sure if you can still request a platform swap (also knows as a crossgrade), which requires destroying the Windows software and license.

  • Lightroom mobile for Windows Tablets and Windows Phones?

    Hi,
are there any plans to bring Lightroom mobile for Windows Phones and Windows Tablets? Why don't use the Universal App Concept which Microsoft has reavealed recently.
    Best regards,

Not so far, only for Apple, although there has been a statement about it being available for Android devices at some point in the future.
The http://lightroom.adobe.com website should work for displaying your LR-synched collections in a web-browser.

Hi I have been having a problem with Bridge in CS4 recently. So uninstalled CS4 and Lightroom 4.4 and reinstalled them on my Desktop PC. When I turned on Bridge through CS4, My thumb nail images disappeared and a thumb nail icon with CR2 appeared. Now some of my images have disappeared from Light room 4.4, but I can find them in CS4 and Bridge now shows some thumb nails as images and some as an icon with CR2. I have spent two weeks going through preferences etc. to find how to resolve my problem. Please can you Help? Meany thanks in advance
      Derek Randall

I don't use LR and rarely use the bridge so I can not answers about thumbnails in them,  However thumbnails in windows file explorer and windows dialog for CS2 files will only show if you have installed codec into windows that will produce them. Windows does not do CR2 thumbnails on its own. I use FastPictureViewer Codec package for RAW File and PSD files thunbmail support.

JIm, you can make the text larger....look at the Interface Tab on the Preferences menu and you'll see several different Font size options (although there are less on OSX apparently). Make a selection, then close and restart Lightroom for the change to take effect.
