Lightroom 1.4 - Note from Adobe

I am in the process of removing Lightroom 1.4 builds from Adobe.com and recommend that those who have updated to Lightroom 1.4 revert to Lightroom 1.3.1. I will have further information shortly but I understand that there are a number of users on this forum who are seeking immediate clarity on the update issues directly from Adobe. I will post another forum topic when additional information has been posted to the Lightroom blog: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/

Well, I can be a P.I.T.A. However, that is generally over missing or weak
features. Software today is complex and the code base is large. I can fully
understand when a bug crops up. Adobe is only human. I am also impressed
that they recalled it to fix it, instead of saying "well get it next
update." Bravo Adobe!
Now back to P.I.T.A. mode! :)

    What about Lightroom 1.4?
Trust me, we haven't forgotten about the photographers who are awaiting a replacement to the Lightroom 1.4 update that we released and subsequently pulled from Adobe.com. Lightroom 1.4.1 and Camera Raw 4.4.1 are currently undergoing additional testing before we release them in the first half of April. Thank you for your patience.

wow - the import really steams. Have just got one question however before I give this version a serious workout and that is just how independent/dependent is version 2 from version 1.3.1?
Perhaps I misunderstood, or read it wrong, but I thought that both versions were completely independent of one another e.g. I could give version 2 a workout whilst still using version 1.3.1 for my serious work. However, having now imported 30 test images (copies) and have taken one image into develop I notice that all the presets that I had in version 1.3.1 now appear in the presets panel. For the life of me I can't understand how this is happening because the catalogue for 1.3.1 is on another drive altogether (drive D) whilst I have v2.0 installed on Drive C and have LR install the catalogue by default. At least this way I know both versions and their catalogues are in two entirely different places and more importantly, I know just where they are. My concern is that if it doesn't work out with version 2 and I choose to remove it from my system will it take all the presets along with it.

  • Lightroom 1.4, Important Note from Adobe, March 16, 2007

I have removed the Lightroom 1.4 update from Adobe.com. Although you will still see references to the update on various pages, the download links have been removed from the download page. Details on the reason for this change are provided in the blog post below.

    Hi All:
based on the good work of Dorin above (post #19), he did a timeline of various releases of Lightroom from Adobe and it shows that from "version x RC" to "final release version" was around 1 month.
as it is already exactly one month now, it must not be too much longer till they will release the LR2.3 Final Version.
As for what Robert said in post #23, well, there's never any "guarantee" on a problem-free piece of software, or, for that matter, anything one purchases or anything in life, actually!! Yet, one can make educated extrapolations, right? From the range of comments thus far on LR2.3RC, it appears that it is the best version yet of LR2.x. This leads to the conclusion that it is probably a "good bet" that this version will likely lead to the least amount of issues, right? Maybe not "zero issues", but most likely, the least amount of issues from the various LR2.x versions available.
So by waiting, say, merely 1-3 more weeks approximately, i can go directly from LR1.4 (which i've been using for many months) to LR2.3 Final Release Version. It seems like it is a prudent and conservative move or plan.
What do the good folks here think, please?
thanks in advance for helping me to mull this over. If i were a PC expert, i'd be thinking about this less. as i'm just a somewhat competent user, and not a whiz, i thought that a bit of care and planning it out intelligently can possibly reduce frustrations later.

  • Lightroom 1.4.1 Now Available - Note from Adobe

Just downloaded the mac version update (1.4.1) Works great EXCEPT printing has gone back to too much magenta (MacPro OS X 10.5.2, Epson 3800 printer).
I printed the same file from Lightroom 1.4.1, Lightroom beta 2.0, Aperture, & Adobe Photoshop CS3. Prints were identical from all except Lightroom 1.4.1. (Used print settings for no printer color management, profile pro38 PLPP, printing to Epson stylus pro 3800 printer)
With Lightroom 1.4.1 I get way too much magenta - not as bad as with 1.3.1, but still not usable.
Interestingly, the soft-proof for 1.4.1 looks good, but it does not print that way.
So, if I want to use Lightroom, I need to print elsewhere, or go back to 1.4 or wait for the 2.0 upgrade.

Much better performance right from the start. I appreciate the speed improvements--- no beach balls yet. I don't think I am alone when I say that the beach ball is a real drain not only on time spent, but the stress of "what changes were saved" , "is this going to crash and corrupt my database" and "maybe I do miss my darkroom". The rest of the problems don't seem to bother me as much, and those seem to be fixed too.
Occurs to me that we should have one sticky thread for single posts on bugs and separate ones for troubleshooting them.
Anyhow, great to have my Lightroom back running like before with more tools than LR1.4.

    Dear Tom:
I am evaluating the 30 day trial version of LR 2.1. Two questions:
    1. Can I update to LR 2.2 for the balance of my trial period? Will downloading the update recognize that I have the trial version and allow me to install it? I really want to see if there are performance improvements for the Adjustment Brush and Graduated Filter for my configuration.
    2. I have Photoshop CS3. Will LR 2.2 continue to work fine with CS3? Will CS3's version of Camera Raw properly render LR 2.2's images when imported as Smart Objects into CS3? (I found the LR 2.2 release notes a bit confusing on this - thanks.)
    Thank you,
    Mark

  • Camera Raw 5.2 and DNG Converter Available - Note from Adobe

Camera Raw 5.2 and the DNG Converter is now available:

Well, I managed to locate and download both the ACR 5.2 and the DNG 5.2, but it was a bit of a challenge. I have a couple of comments regarding the DNG installation.
As a sometime OS beta tester, I have developed a habit of keeping C:\ for the operating system only. When a new OS or beta is issued, I just format C: and install the new OS. I try to keep applications off C:. It is hard, though, with all the default installations. It would be nice to have the option to install DNG.exe in my applications partition.
My workflow involves importing NEF's from the memory card to a folder, and at the same time converting those NEF's to DNG's and putting them in a different folder in a different partition. Both these NEF's and DNG's are archived. A copy of the DNG's are used as working images. The virtue of DNG's is that there are no sidecar files to keep track of when exporting images. Unless I really mess up, I never go back to the NEF's again. I guess that I am an "outlier" too. I guess that this is essentially the 5 - A "double DNG-only" workflow, using type 2, the native-DNG-DNG system. This is discussed in detail by Barry Pearson at http://www.barrypearson.co.uk/articles/dng/safety.htm#personal
I do like the camera profiles. I previously have used the Fors script. My Nikon D200 lacked red and the Fors script fixed that. Not surprisingly, different profiles are appropriate for different image types. Is there any way of determining the methodology and reasoning between the different profiles, and what specific problems each one is designed to correct. This might permit better matching profiles to image types, with less trial and error.

  • Camera Raw 5.4 RC available on Adobe Labs - Note from Adobe

Do follow the instructions. I followed my previous habit of setting the old Camera Raw plugin aside, prior to installing the new, in case I wanted to revert. Apparently the installer refers to the existing plugin to decide what language settings to use - I ended up with all ACR buttons and menus displaying in an Asian character set.
Then after manually restoring the 5.3 version to its rightful place, I had to jump through some hoops before PS or Bridge could see it. Deleting prefs did nothing, nor did rebooting. I finally got it back to sanity by running cameraprofiles.mpkg from the 5.3 download. However, now I couldn't rerun the 5.4 installer, as it insisted 5.4 was already installed. I was finally able to get the 5.4 installer to work, only by rerunning the PS CS4 installer to reinstall CS4 (no need to uninstall.)

  • Lightroom won't download from Adobe

for two days I tried to download Lightroom as a trial.  Still won't download when I hit the download button.  Other apps from the trials download OK.  I finally went to the Upgrade Lightroom on the right side and it worked just fine.

  • DNG Update - Note from Adobe

The DNG Specification and SDK have been updated. The DNG Vista Codec has also been provided as a release candidate on Adobe Labs.

Thanks Tom, I've been looking forward to the codec. I did have issues installing, which probably had noting to do with the installer. The installer would run completely and I would reboot, but still no thumbnails (I only tried it three times). I finally tried to register the codec manually and was given the error code 0x80070005 which is access denied. I then found that my permissions on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT were missing. I've had this happen once before, so I do not believe it is associated with the DNGCodec installer. Once I reset the permissions and ran the installer again, all is working.
Sorry for being so wordy, but I wanted to give details in case anyone else has the same issue.

  • Purchased Lightroom 6 - Download Link from Adobe no good

Just purchased LR 6 (stand alone version / not CC). Logged into Adobe, in my account and the Order is listed with a link for Download. But when I click on it, a new tab/window opens and it says "413 Header Length Too Large."
And that's the end of many attempts. So not sure if it's too many people flooding the servers, or something strange where the order/payment/download isn't up and running yet. I have a copy of the invoice/receipt and it has a serial
number for the download. So don't think there's a payment related issue. Any ideas?

When I downloaded the link (for an upgrade to standalone version) I got CC, not a standalone.  They are really trying to push CC.

  • Critical Flashplayer update messages, not from Adobe or Microsoft

Since 13.12.14 I have been getting messages to update my flash player.  I have checked my PC settings and I get automatic updates from Microsoft (I have Windows 8.1). Is my PC infected with the Moon Worm?
These are some of the origins of the messages:
    [link removed]   15.12.14
    [link removed]    17.12.14
    [link removed]    18.12.14
    [link removed]    20.12.14
What can I do to stop these messages?
    Thank you for your help.

If it's really a variant of "The Moon", then it's probably your home router that's affected and not the machine.  That class of attack is resident in memory only, so power-cycling the router will clear it out.  You'll want to update your router with the latest available firmware to prevent it from being re-infected.
If it's still happening after that, then there's a good chance that you have other malware already on your machine.
